Need a replacement charger - Moto Z2 Play Accessories

Anyone know if qc 3.0 will enable turbo charging? I currently have a qc 2.0 and it's charging very slowly. Is the Moto turbo 30w the only charger that can activate turbo charging?

Hi,
I'm using an AUKEY charger with QC3 and the screen shows "TurboPower connected", so yes it works fine.

Thanks ended up just buying the original charger for about $20

I can confirm Pixel chargers work.

FYI, 18 watts PD charger works 100%

5V 3A Charger?

Currently I am using both N6P and M8.
N6P supports 5V/3A but no QC2, and M8 supports QC2.
I don't want to carry 2 chargers all the time, so I did little bit search and found this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0122P71FC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
It seems to be a good one, with 5V 3A, 9V 1.67A, 12V 1.2A, so now I guess I can use it with Zaptip.
Anything similar to that?

On 5V 3A?
If that's what it's actually outputting then the nexus doesn't see it that way. I suppose it may be my cables. I don't have a USB-C to A adapter to try the C to C cable that came with the phone.
FYI I have this charger and it registers as fast charging with my Nexus 6p:

Can't say for sure if it charges exactly the same power/speed as the stock charger, but did notice it was definitely charging very fast..
It's the $10.99 20W black version.

Says 5V 2.4A for each port. So I guess it would be slower than the stock one.

Possibly but it did say rapid charging and it did charge plenty fast to me.
Honestly the stock charger doesn't seem very fast to me
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
When I plugged in my 6P's 5V/3A charger at 19% it said it would take 1 hour to charge. When I tried my iPad brick(5.2V/2.4A) and a USB C to USB A I got from amazon and it said it would take 1 hour to charge from 18%. Both said charging rapidly. It seems as long as the wall adapter puts out 5V and 2A or more it should charge rapidly, regardless of the wall adapter being USB A or C.
This charger situation is a nightmare. But....
I bought one of these awhile ago for $12 on sale, and I didn't expect for it to quick charge the Nexus 6p, but it does seem to register as quick charging.

The charger listed in the first post will register as quick charging when using a USB 3.1 certified A to C cable.

Home and car turbocharge compatible chargers.

Let's discuss what wall and car chargers you have been able to charge the phone with.
I haven't bought it yet, but the Tronsmart 33 watt dual charger for the car looks promising: https://goo.gl/a3vada
I have a Tronsmart quick charge 3.0 home charger right now, but I don't have my phone yet. When I'm able to test it, I'll let everyone know.
Of course, if you are going to use a USB A to USB C cable, make sure it isn't a cheap one. Apparently there are reports of bad cables that may short out.
A question I have is: Can we get the full use of the Turbocharge with a USB A to USB C cable? Or do we need to go straight USB C to USB C? ANSWER, according to @tea_dub84: Possible that you will need USB C to USB C cables to achieve fastest charging.

Most definitely going to need usb c to usb c for the fastest charging. With a usb a end I believe the best amp rating we can get is 2.4a but usually around 2. To turbo charge the Moto Z and for it to recognize turbo charging you need at least 5v at 3amps (15watts). The stock turbo charger outputs 5v at 5.7 amps (28.5watts). Our phones don't follow Qualcomm quick charge standards. I believe our phones follow the usb power delivery standard for charging.
I gave up looking and went to the local Verizon store. I was having an issue that the only charger that would charge my moto mod battery, Incipio, was the supplied charger with the phone.
They had usb c chargers in stock. I tested out the home charger and it turbo charged my phone then started to charge the battery mod. Then tested the usb c car charger and it turbo charged my phone then switched to charging the mod.
So needless to say I'm satisfied.

Any chargers (home and car) online that use usb-c to usb-c cables should turbo charge the phone...
NONE of them (including the VZW) will charge as fast as the one that came in the box...but they will turbo charge

Just to compare the second photo is using the supplied charger that came with phone. Huge difference.

Any USB C to C charger will *work*, but they won't turbo charge since Motorola doesn't use QC 2 or 3. It uses the USB C charging standard with a twist. I have tried a couple chargers, and the phone will always pop up a box telling that to enable turbocharge I need to use a turbocharge charger, etc...
The Z Force charges with a 5v at 5.7a, and many chargers won't put out that much power. I've seen a lot of 3a and 5a chargers, but few 5.7a.
If you're lucky enough to have a USB C port on a PC/Mac, it will turbo charge the phone as fast as the stock charger, provided you use a good quality C to C cable. It will also let you transfer data to the phone at insane speeds.
Verizon sells TWO car chargers that are Type-C one of them states Qualcomm QC 3.0 and the other does not but both show they are rated at 5V/3A (15 watts)
Has anyone tried one with the VZ branding? If so, which model was it? SKU #TYPECPDQC3VPC or SKU #TYPECPDVPC ?
So I ended up getting the SKU #TYPECPDQC3VPC and it works fine in turbo mode. Go with that one for the car!
I picked up the following charger from amazon with a discount from snagshout.com. Seems to work as it should, have only used it twice though.

I bought this charger :

It works perfectly on turbo power via the usb c port.
It follows a Motorola Proprietary Power Delivery, compatible with other USB Type-C Power Delivery devices up to 5V/3A max
The Verizon TYPECPDQC3VPC, TYPECPDVPC car chargers and TYPECPDQC3TVL wall charger will charge 5V/3A. (I bought mine off ebay as Verizon/Xentris non-branded for $9 each~ YMMV)
Reference https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...f_TX8/pubhtml#
I think most usb type-c PD chargers will "fast charge" up to 5V/3A, only the Motorola TubroPower 30 has the capability to do 5V/5.7A proprietary "turbo charge".. It was $20 shipped on Verizon 'til recently, that's where I bought mine.

Replacement Turbo Charger?

I own the Moto Z that came with Motorola 15w Turbo Charger (the grey turbo writing on the USB-C end, it's also the All-in-one charger too) but I wanted a substitute incase anything were to happen to it so
I purchased a bunch of USB-C to USB-A Cables, I also purchased two quick chargers. The first being the:
Tronsmart Rapid Wall Charger QC 3.0 18W, which is supposed to output 3.6V-6.5V/3A, 6.5V-9V/2A, 9V-12V/1.5A. And the second, the:
Motorola Turbo Charger QC 2.0 15W, which outputs Standard: 5V / 1.67A (8W) TurboPower 1: 9V / 1.67A (15W) TurboPower 2: 12V / 1.2A (15W)
Neither of these two chargers managed to trigger the "TurboPower Connected" pop up, I also downloaded Ampere and did some tests on them, but they show that the amperage caps at 1500mAh. Is there a reason for this and also could somebody suggest a guaranteed substitute charger that triggers the pop up?

Are you using a Motorola turbo charge brick? Like the one in the box with the Nexus 6. If not then there's your issue. You can only acquire turbo charging speed through one of those and it'll turbo charge your phone through any USB cable since the cable is only a vessel used to flow voltage. Hope this helps!

Thank you for your response, I found out that using a fast charger that has a USB-C output on the charger, triggers the TurboPower Charge. So you would need a USB-C to USB-C cable with an Output Fast Charger of USB-C, as the charging current is higher.

Ordered one today. In a month or so I can give you guys feedback.
Hey Weirdos,
left replacement, right out of the box charger (EU).
TurboPower connected :good:
USB-C charging cable supports 3A current while normal micro USB charging cable only supports 1.8A current, so you need an Original Data/Charging USB-C cable.
I lost my turbo charger and yesterday i charged Moto Z with the original charger from my Zuk z1. And guess what...turbo charging enabled. Then i tried the Zuk Z2 charger and it also turbo charges. I know that Zuk and Moto are both Lenovo, but i did not expect it to work with a charger from 2015.
Maybe comes handy if someone has those lying around. I pressume chargers from Zuk Edge and 2 Pro should also be turbocharging the Z
Does turbo charging require anything special?
Or are these normal chargers with 3A/USB C?

Extra Chargers?

Has anyone found any cheap chargers that can charge this phone like the Essential charger does (really fast)? I have bought two different chargers and neither of them can really even charge the phone. The lock screen says it's charging slowly, and the battery meter acts like it's charging, but it doesn't actually charge. The chargers were both Quick Charge 3.0 chargers too. None of my old phone chargers with a type-c adapter will charge the phone either.

I'm not sure how Android is programmed to display "Rapidly Charging", but I'm sure it's not by charging standard. Probably based on supplied power, but it definitely doesn't charge as fast as the stock charger. I noticed this with my QC chargers. It will say rapidly charging for a couple minutes and then just not charge at all or say charging slowly. Frustrating as hell so I bought an extra USB PD charger.
My Samsung chargers all work, and charge the phone to 100%. They just say charging, not quick charging, but whatever... The % goes up.

Phone needs a charger with USB-C Power Delivery and not QC. Anker has at least one model and Incipio has one as well. There are many others on Amazon.. The cool thing about those is that they also change my XPS-13. Only carry one charger when I travel.
I've got a few QC 2/3 chargers and a few USB-C PD chargers and what I've found is that depending on which USB-C to USB-A makes a difference whether I get rapid charge or not.
I'm slowly converting over to USB-C to USB-C but it is stupid expensive for some things like the power packs with USB-C...
Anyway, try a few different cables and see if it works for you, also it seems to work a tiny bit better on the Oreo Beta however my QC 2.0 car charger doesn't charge as fast as it did on 7.1.1 but luckily the car chargers are the cheapest USB-C PD items to buy, roughly about the same price as a cable.
One last note, the same charger and cable don't always go into rapid charging mode so replugging the cable in sometime kicks in rapid mode for me.

They may only slow charge each other !!

You can still have a pseudo fast charge using a USB-PD (Power Delivery, up to 27W) compatible charger. However, it won't be as fast as with OnePlus' WarpCharge (or OPPO VOOC) .
