That's not what he meant. He meant in this thread:
1) ask questions in post 1
2) use a thread title that describes the problem / question

Yes you need a file to install a custom recovery. It's called an .img file and you install this by using fastboot commands and the Android SDK while in fastboot mode. Head to general and check out the sticky by rootSU. You access recovery by holding power + down while your Nexus 5 is off, if you don't install a custom recovery such as TWRP or CWM you will be on stock recovery and you won't be able to do much. Use the volume buttons to cycle through the options until you see Recovery and tap the power button.
If this didn't help, please be more descriptive as rootSU said.

@rootSU sounds like this is a job for the Sticky! @amongmyselves please click the link in rootSU's SIG and read the sticky about fastboot/adb. Everything you need is in the stickies
Also as a big big hint. When you first root your device you *WILL* lose all your data on your sd partition. So if you've made any changes, etc., be prepared to lose it. Also all your pictures and whatnot. I would suggest doing a copy/paste using your usb cable to like your computer before you root/unlock bootloader. I made that mistake the hard way and feel this should really be in big red letters on the root thread. lol

No, unlocking the bootloader is what wipes. You can unlock the bootloader but not flash a recovery nor root. Just as there are methods to root without unlocking the bootloader.
My phone is HARD Bricked!.
Its all started with wanting to get Oxygen OS. So I downloaded the OS, unlocked the bootloader, rooted and even installed custom recovery TWRP . All went okay!.
I began installing Oxygen OS with the following instruction but the installed Failed. I thought why not clear everything before installation so cleared cache, dalvik and all.
I tried to install once again it failed again.
I was stuck at OnePlus logo I have NO OS at this point.
now it wont even bootup not even backlight of the screen. Not responding to any button or anything.
when i connect to the computer I can hear the normal connected device noise but nothing else.
NO fastboot, No recovery and NO screen on.
HELP!

This.... ^^^^
If you ask a question somewhere... Especially when someone answers.... No need to start a thread about it too.
If you ask a question somewhere and get zero responses after a day or so.... Then try a new thread.
Otherwise it only creates clutter and confusion.
Thread closed.
Thanks,

hi,
I upgraded my phone to OOS10 and forgot to take precautionary measures. Now I don't have TWRP or root. I tried patching my own boot image and even tried the patched ones but the phone refuses to boot.
At this point I'm willing to try and return my phone to how it came from factory and start from scratch. What is the best way to do so with clean slots a and b and locked bootloader and take it from there?
Thanks for your help.
Edit: Apologies for posting in the wrong section, can I please ask a mod to move this to the Question section?

Dude @Mohammed stop Hijacking the thread with pointless comments every five minutes. (In your case, every minute and a half.)
You will get help when someone who's willing to help you or knows about it will reply. Stop trying to push your post to the top with stupid comments.
Quick note: Mohammed is not hijacking his own thread, he's just bumping it...
"Bumping" a thread within an interval of 1.5 minutes of posting, THRICE?
Yeah I wouldn't call it bumping. I'd call that Hijacking because that's basically absuing the way XDA organizes the Q&A thread.
People like this with zero patience ensure that other people with genuine concerns get their posts delegated into the second page which to be honest no one checks.
It's especially a problem when you can see its a "New Member" who doesn't contribute in any way to the community. They create a post without searching, "bump" it according to you and then disappear after it's resolved.
BTW Mod has reviewed the post and agreed with me.

Not to sound like a newbie or that im complaining.... But for those of us who dont know how or what the we are supposed to do with your github twrp since there's no instructions their either why not explain here what we need to do to install your twrp thats prebuilt? Or how the hell to build since nowhere in the folder is there a recovery.img or twrp.img at all... I havent done any of this since android 5.0 and all this new gsi stuff is rather confusing for those of us who havent kept up with or dont have experience with building stock roms or even working stock images.... Not to mention building a recovery image on a phone is more complicated then doing so on pc and with termux being dead that makes it more complicated for me as idk know how else I would achieve building such a image from a non rooted device and without a PC.... Sure we could flash your pre-rooted images but dont that defeat the purpose as without a custom recovery it makes flashing gsi's a bit difficult as instead of just booting recovery we got to flash thru fastboot... If that dont brick the device in the end
I was able to OEM unlock the bootloader, Im trying to figure out this twrp. Any help?
Moderator Announcement
Thread has been cleaned because it was already derailing into a rant with clear violations of the expected member conduct in accordance with rule no. 2 of the XDA Forum Rules. This cleaning at least prevented direct actions against specific accounts. I'd appreciate if the forum rules get reviewed and future posts in whatever thread comply with them.
Additionally, I closed the thread as the OP removed the content of the first post.
