Hi there, i have a MTC-RK3188-REVO.3 board with a little bit of damage....
One of the resistors has been knocked off,
Im wondering if anyone on here could help me identify what component is in the red circle on my picture?
Thank you

im in the process of installing my wife's unit at the moment. when she gets home this eve, I can measure if you cannot for whatever reason.
odds are, you will not be able to find out the specific capacitor used, unless you want to invest in a cheap capacitance meter (or build one). first, is this even necessary for function? you'd be surprised how often it isn't, but if it is, best you can do is match the size and replace with a high quality cap. I would try simply attempting to run the board without it first and see if it works, it's really going to be how much frustration your willing to invest past that. you could try just jumping the cap with a solder strip/wire or something, but know that catastrophic failure would probably be 50/50 in doing so. good luck, I'd love to hear how you deal with it. sorry it happened, people do things like that all the time, like bending the pins in a motherboard socket..... not me of course

How would you suggest the value of the capacitor is determined as has size does not determine value.

Size does not equal unit value, assuming capacitor (farad's) or type. Hasn't been established it is a capacitor. If the SOM isn't booting, best bet is get in touch with someone willing to validate the component from a working px3 or just replace it with a PX5.
When my unit turned up from the supplier there was a PX3 board lying loose in the packing box.

Looking at it I'd say the missing device is a 0603 capacitor, probably 10nF
Where are you based ? you could have the board for spares if you want (I'd guess the board doesn't work)
hi, really sorry for starting this thread then leaving for so long.... i can say it wasnt my fault.... i (for my sins) am on virgin for my internet and as per usual at this time of year,,, yeah you guessed it.... service outage! great!

Depends on if you want something right this seconds, or want to wait for something that's currently just speculation. Also, it probably depends on how desperately you need a physical keyboard. Personally, I went for the Nexus. ;-)
The Nexus Two is rumored to be the Motorola Shadow, no? I think with slide down hard keyboard, maybe like the Pre?
At first I was pissed I'd just shelled out $500 to buy a new GSM version HTC Hero, a phone I love... only to have that sinking feeling of, wow, same price and 2 months later and a beautiful new screen, much faster processor, etc.
But after the first 3 days of wows! gave way to next 4 days of outrage from customers looking for support from Google, and the discount from T-Mobile, and having 3G connect problem, and soft-touch key offset problems, i decided why do I need to rush to that? For me when I finally saw the Nexus One side by side with my Hero here in San Francisco talking to a Google employee in my neighbirhood (the entire company worldwide got the Nexus One in November as a company gift), I saw not as much super-wow differemce as i had imagined, and, i saw same crappy trackball that my Hero has, with no sensitivity control. (Even the Google guy said he oftejn accidentally brushes against the trackball when working the soft keys)
So, for me, once I then saw the HTC Bravo is coming to Europe in 2-3 months, with almost same specs as N1, but IMPROVED with OPTICAL track ball, and refined better layout of soft buttons, i thought: I'll wait for that one.
But yes, it's true, you can never outfox technology by waiting til later. The tradeoffs are always "but you're denying yourself usage now" etc.
For me, i way prefer soft keyboard to hard, but thyat's why Google's next phone allegdly will have hard heyboard.
btw, remind me to tell anyone who's interested what the Google guy, who;s in PR, turns out, had to say about the major comsumer pushback against Google not providing phone support for a $500 cionsumer device....
only problem with the bravo is that small screen size

GSMARENA
Update: A new batch of rumored specs have surfaced over on GSM Arena, and these seem to be more in line with what we'd expect of a new Nexus. According to an anonymous Google employee, that 4.65-inch Super AMOLED HD display mentioned above is just about the only spec to make the final cut. The processor, however, is more likely to be a dual-core 1.5GHz Exynos (that's right) with an accompanying dual-core PowerVR SGX543MP2 graphics chip. That rear facing camera? Try 8 megapixels with a newly beefed up sensor. The handset should also ship with a girthy 2,050mAh battery fully capable of juicing this apparent LTE / CDMA / GSM Android monster.
Ugh...too bad it's verizon only.
I just hope that ICS comes with Chrome as the default browser instead of the one they use now.
I'm really concerned of amoled burn out. With ICS since the buttons will be virtual on screen buttons won't the constant black bar at the bottom of the screen burn out the amoled pixels?
I have burn out on the notification bar on my galaxy s.

nice find
its interesting there is alot of conflicting information on this device....some sources still reporting a 1.2 dual core TI cpu rather than the 1.5 exynos and some reporting that despite other recent leaked specs that it may actually come with a 8mp camera not that....that is as big a deal for most users other than perception.
All these discrepancies in specs are crazy.
Maybe the Verizon version (Droid Prime) has different specs than the phone that's hitting the other carriers (Galaxy Nexus).
Not that I'd even notice the difference, but I'm kind of hoping the AT&T variant gets the Exynos processor. I hear they scream.
And I really freaking hope this phone isn't exclusive with Verizon for a long period of time. I hate it when they do that.
If I have to wait more than a couple weeks after the Verizon launch, I'm going to call Samsung, keep asking to talk to the next manager up the chain, and when I've gotten the highest person they'll let me talk to, I'll unleash a string of expletives that would make my mom pass out followed by the plea "I'm stuck with AT&T...DON'T YOU WANT MY MONEY??????" Then I'll call Google and do the same thing.

and vs iphone 5 (7.6mm)
More rumours surrounding BBK’s Vivo X1s suggest the MTK phone will get a quad-core processor after all, but at an $80 price hike!
$480 is a lot of money to be spending on an Android smartphone, and when you begin looking at this lofty price bracket you rightly demand more for your money. This is why the 5-inch 1080, Oppo Find 5 made so many waves! At $500 is represents the best value for money 1080 phone currently on the market, and this is where Vivo are going to fall flat on their face!
Last year the Vivo X1 launched with dual-core MT6577 processor and thin 6.55mm body for $401, we thought it was far too expensive, you thought it was to expensive, and it seems Chinese consumers believe so too as I have only ever seen one out in public!
Still Vivo are not deterred by this and plan to launch an updated version of the X1 with dual-sim support and a more efficient quad-core MT6589 processor running at 1.2Ghz. The X1s, as the updated phone will be known, will get the same 720 HD display, 2GB RAM, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, 2000mAh battery and high-quality stereo audio all in the same super slim 6.55mm alloy body.
So have Vivo decided to lower the price of the X1s, or at least sell the phone at the same price as the X1 despite the updates? No, is the answer. The quad-core Vivo X1s is scheduled for release in April at the 2998 Yuan ($481), that ‘s 1 Yuan less the the Oppo Find 5 with 5-inch 1080 display, Snapdragon S4 and 13 mega-pixel camera!!
Come on Vivo what are you playing at?!

From what I can tell it's pretty sturdy in hand. And it's damn thin. Unfortunately the capacitive buttons at the bottom are not lit and the volume rocker is on the right. Both of these rathers bothers me and I need some time getting used to it. According to some, the battery is a 2000mah which is big for a phone this slim. Also has an led indicator on the top left of the phone. It id green, but idk if there are other colors.
Personally I don't understand the point of sacrificing battery capacity and internal specs for the sake of making the phone less comfortable to hold in hand.
not bad!!!
Hello all,
As many of you, I am reluctant to give up with our loved last Qwerty survivor. Therefore, this was the moment to boost its battery life.
The selected new battery is BL-54SG from LG G2 (thanks to @no3id)
The process is very simple: disassemble the stock battery to take out the battery controller PCB and solder it to the bare LG battery.

Does your battery level indicator still work with this retrofitted battery?
Did you consider somehow sanding the back case to try to avoid some of that bulging?

It runs perfect, battery life improved at least 40%.
Man, you've done a great job!
One more question, for your conversion you've used some random "genuine replacement" battery from ebay for $15? I mean, any 2610MAH BL-54SG will do?
As it's not easy to buy a genuine LG BL-54SG here, I've decided to give LG BL-59JH a try.
It's 2460mAh, which still seems like a good upgrade and I could easily pick it up in a store on my way from work to home yesterday.
It's not so wide as BL-54SG, so it can be installed without any modification to the battery support frame.
My back cover seems to hold rather fine even with NFC antenna back in place, but there's indeed a bulge.
What's important for me is that the phone still fits to Motorola's original car holder without issues.
will there be any way to do this without any soldering?

Hi
Thanks for your sharing! My Photon Q battery has been bad for already half a year. It bulged a little bit and the battery service life was getting less every day.
So I bought a BL-54SG as well 12€, so about 13 USD here in Germany. Hope, it's a genuine one. Disassembled both batteries, soldered the PQ-battery-controller to the bare LG battery and done Was slightly difficult because the positive pole of the LG battery was eating the heat of my soldering station... But now it's working
Closing the battery door was really hard. At first it didn't clamp but now it looks like it stays closed.
I have the same "marks" on the backside, but before my phone's backside was'nt flat because of the bulging old battery, now it's because of extended capacity. Something I can live with!
So thank you for your advice! I'll now test this "mod" as well
//EDIT: NFC seems to be broken now, though...
//EDIT2: OK, working again peeled this black stuf from the old battery and put it behind the NFC antenna on the new one
As the glue holding the previously flat (now bulged) top part of the back cover started to loosen up, I've decided to try an alternative to better accommodate the thicker battery.
This my first try on an 'old gloves leather back' hack.
The soft leather is held by the thin 3M double sided adhesive tape for touchscreen/lcd repairs.
To my surprise, it's still holding fine after a few days of use.

Well that sucked. I had a bad battery, bought a new one. Saw this thread, decided I'll get an LG and try the mod with the old battery.
New battery arrived, aaaaand snapped the PCB from the old one trying to get it off :/
What would happen if I wired the battery up just through the +/- pins? Without the two middle ones?
What are the middle pins for?
EDIT::

I'm thinking of upgrading my Droid 4 battery. However I don't want to give up wireless charging. I have already troubles to fit Qi receiver in. So I need new back cover (can't find any) or thin battery and as much mAh as possible. Here are couple alternatives:

Too bad that I can't find any 2.7 x 1.9 x 0.16 batteries with 2000-2200mAh. I think that should be possible. Only 100mAh upgrade to 1900mAh is maybe too little.

I think if you remove nfc, then this battery will stand in our phone as a native)
But transplant controller will still have to do.
New 4 inch coming. Looks similar base.

Looks like same base, but case could be slightly larger. It looks like it lost the volume button. Apparently many colors should be available. It has the same camera placement as KKM2 Pro.
I still wish they'd do more about it, like reduce bezels, make it square thick (feels thinner). Unfortunately they are stuck with battery hungry OS, that is used on phablets.

what software did you use do draw CNC dimensions?
i really don't think it will be 116 mm tall. kkm is 119 mm, and this looks taller.

sorry, have no idea about the software used for it, i took this picture from 4pda forum
but comparing to kkm bezels and assuming same display's size i see the top bezel is lesser than kkm one and others are pretty same
lets wait till launch
release date for cubot pocket - june 18
upd launch on may 20
Overview and specifications (only partial for now) of the new Cubot Pocket.
Height : 119 mm. :-(
Where is the impovement compared to the KKM / KKM2 ?
The latest model of 2022 (Pocket) has the same form factor and the same screen as a rugged phone of 2019 (KKM) !
Come on, Cubot ! The viewable screen you use measures 90.9 * 45.4 mm (my calculations. I don't own a KKM / KKM2). With the same screen, you can create a phone that would be 100 * 52 mm (screen to body ratio : 79 %. Nothing exceptional).

Improvements: better CPU, more memory, better looks. Good enough for me. The way to think of it is kkm3 with a less polarizing design.
CPU is better?
Being Unisoc, is it more secure, open source? 64 or 32/64 binder.

Better cores, still 4 though.
Hello !
Cubot's website said that the screen was "4.0 Inch QHD+".
QHD means "Quad HD". The same as 1440p or 2560*1440 pixels.
The "+" means wider ratio (e.g. 2880*1440 pixels if length is twice the width, like the KKM / KKM2).
But Cubot lied.
Cubot now sells the Pocket on AliExpress.
This gives one more specification : the number of pixels.
It is in fact 1570*720 pixels. This is HD+, NOT QHD+.
I don't like liars, but this is enough pixels on a small screen to my taste.
The problem is that Cubot now uses a 2.18x length/width ratio on the Pocket (1570*720 pixels), resulting in a 56.7 % screen ratio, when it used a 2x (or 18/9) length/width ratio on the KKM and KKM2 (1080*540 pixels), resulting in a 59.8 % screen ratio.

But in fact, it is worse than that : the rugged phone of 2019 (KKM) had a BETTER screen to body ratio as the brand new Pocket !
What a disappointment !

they have same line in specs for kkm2 with 1080x540 and i was pretty sure this is absolutely (and unfortunately) same display
and they've just updated specs at ali shop, no worries xD
True ! They just updated the specifications !
Maybe they read us !
1080*540 is fine to me. It is more than enough at 302 PPI.
A screen with smaller pixels would require more processing power, but human eyes wouldn't see the difference.
Cubot, if you read us : please make a smaller phone with the same screen.
100 * 52 mm with the same screen should be within reach.
You could even make a smaller phone if you use a screen with round corners.
People who buy 4 inch phones do so because they want a small phone body ; not for the "pleasure" of a small screen. But in the actual lineup, the smaller the phone is, the bigger the borders (and the worse the screen to body ratio) are !
Cobus.

The Cubot Pocket is powered by a Unisoc Tiger T310.
According to CPUbenchmark the T310 should be roughly twice as powerful as the Mediatek MT6761 (what variant ?) that powers the KKM and KKM2.
It has the same ranking as the Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 that powers the Rakuten Mini released in January 2020. :-(
Today they released rum stock including instructions and tools
I believe they will talk more about this device, bought from it in the last day more than 350 pieces which is a lot compared to Chinese devices
