Guest mode missing - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

After the 8.1 update, guest mode is missing on my pixel xl. The user icon no longer exists in the notifications menu. Was guest/multi user mode removed?

works fine here, clean install (-w intact), never used ota

Weird. I went into system menu and found that you can enable it from there in user settings. After I tried it once, it now shows up in notifications when expanded. All good.

Is anyone using GravityBox?

I installed it and have managed to use it to edit the quick settings but there is a setting for sound that I can't get rid of. Am I missing something?
I go to GravityBox>Statusbar tweaks>QuickSettings management>Statusbar Quicksettings tiles
Sound isn't listed there.
I have a 'volume'. Isn't that what you mean? It's just before Network mode and after Ringer mode
Where do you get the apk?

It didn't work right for my S7 I couldn't add a hotspot toggle

I used the Superman ROM and found a setting in that to stop the toggles scrolling by only showing five on screen at the top. I got rid of Good Lock as that seemed to be cause the problems I had.
Now I just need to work out how to have widgets on the lock screen.

Signal icons missing

The wifi and cellular signal meter icons are missing on my primary user profile. They are shown when logged in as a different user. Is this normal?

This isn't normal, you could try deleting and recreating your profile since it seems to work as a different user or doing a factory reset if you're paranoid about what may have caused the issue in the first place.
Google chat support also suggested a factory reset after safe mode and resetting network settings, so it looks like that's the plan. Just added a user to my 5x and the wifi icons are shown in both profiles.

Those things can be turned on or off in the system ui tuner in settings. You don't see it in settings by default though so unless you've already enabled it you'll have to do that first. Pull down the notification bar so you can see your quick toggles and then press and hold the settings icon at the top right until you see a message about system tuner being enabled. Then go in settings and you'll find it near the bottom. See if they are disabled in there. If not, try toggling them on. If they are already on try toggling them off and then on again and see if that works. If not, maybe try toggling them off, reboot and toggle them back on.

Thanks robocuff!
I had system ui tuner enabled for a while now. Disabled and the icons reappeared. Re-enabled and they are still there, no reboot required. For good measure, I removed the wifi and cellular data tiles, an still have the icons.
It's unfortunate that google support suggests a factory reset when there is a much quicker and less intrusive method to correct this issue.

Oreo - Android System Notification - Lastpass is running in the background.

Since Oreo I have this notification "Android System Notification - Lastpass is running in the background.!"
All I can do is snooze it for up to 2 hours, clicking the notification takes me to the app settings and everything is ok and it is ticked to allow running in the background.
How can I stop this from appearing?
I don't find anyway to stop this notification every 2 hours.
You can use below app until we get 8.1, where this notification can be finally disabled in notification channels settings for Android System app (switch is greyed out in 8.0).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iboalali.sysnotifsnooze
Great, I'll give it a go.
Thanks

It does it with a bunch of other system notifications. For example the VPN notification bar (system notification, not the app) is also persistent, apart from the snooze.
That app seems oddly specific btw. Can't try it out right now but I assume it won't work for other system notifications?
Edit: had a better look at the pictures and it seems the VPN thing might be snoozable through that app after all.

Third Party SystemUI Tuner Not Changing Settings on LG X Venture?

Hello, I recently purchased a new LG X Venture, running android 7.0. I was very annoyed that it can't go into do not disturb mode from pressing the volume button down, so I looked into it, and discovered SystemUI Tuner, a feature that supposedly can enable/disable this feature. Unfortunately, SystemUI Tuner is also apparently disabled by default (thanks LG), so I downloaded the third party recreation of SystemUI Tuner from the app store (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zacharee1.systemuituner&hl=en_US). My phone is not rooted, so I had to enable the permissions the app needs with adb. I followed the instructions on the app and also here (https://www.howtogeek.com/318539/how-to-get-androids-system-ui-tuner-on-non-stock-devices/) to get adb working with my phone and windows 7 computer. Eventually, everything seemed to work, and I typed in the three adb permission lines while connected over adb. I didn't get any output from any of the lines, but no errors either, so I would guess they worked. I then proceeded in the app, and started playing around with the settings. Among other things, I disabled a lot of icons in the phone status bar (as well as enabling auto detect), enabled extreme night mode, and enabled "DND Switch in Vol Slider".
The night mode definitely changed the tint of my screen, as soon as I clicked it. But the other two settings don't seem to have changed anything, even after a restart. My taskbar is still the same, with icons that I tried to hide still there. And most importantly, the volume button still doesn't put the phone into DnD mode. I hold it down until the phone is on vibrate, then I click it down again, and nothing happens. I can enable DnD mode from the taskbar, but then I can't exit it either from the volume keys.
Any idea what might be wrong? I am very determined to correct this.

NFC quick tile always shows disabled

Just setup my phone, including updates/security updates and I've found the NFC quicktile always shows disabled. If I long press the icon, it will take me to Connection preferences where I can turn it on or off there, but no matter the state it is in the NFC quicktile shows disabled.
Anyone else have this problem?
Yep. Mine is the same way. I also have a weird issue because I keep several apps in folders on my homepage. If I rearrange the apps within a folder, it leaves a copy of the app icon on the actual homepage itself. A reboot fixes it but it's odd.
Strange, I don't even have the option to add NFC quick tile. I've tried toggling NFC both on and off and looking for the tile with no luck either.
Mine is also disabled. I probably only have it because I transferred my settings from another phone that had the tile there already. I wonder if/why Google is phasing out the NFC toggle
I also cannot use the quick tile toggle
My 4a also disabled.
I think that it is because the data/settings were migrated from the previous phone that has NFC icon in QS panel.
The NFC toggle works fine for me, BUT... my phone is rooted.
I installed the Quick Settings app (by Simone Sestito) to get the NFC toggle, then granted it superuser permissions.

My 4a is also rooted, yet the (previously) built-in quick toggle is disabled as previously described.

To test this I just froze the Quick Settings app I installed and I don't even see NFC among the default choices. Only unfreezing the app adds it back, so maybe you're seeing something that was there from previous settings you restored? I think it's odd that Google didn't put it there by default, but it appears they didn't?
I actually factory reset mine last night and didn't restore from any backup. The NFC quick toggle is gone now.

Yep, that's exactly the conclusion I came to earlier. Google definitely removed the tile for it. Seems like a strange decision to me, though.
FWIW, seems to be not fixed in the latest 11 build.
