Just setup my phone, including updates/security updates and I've found the NFC quicktile always shows disabled. If I long press the icon, it will take me to Connection preferences where I can turn it on or off there, but no matter the state it is in the NFC quicktile shows disabled.
Anyone else have this problem?
Yep. Mine is the same way. I also have a weird issue because I keep several apps in folders on my homepage. If I rearrange the apps within a folder, it leaves a copy of the app icon on the actual homepage itself. A reboot fixes it but it's odd.
Strange, I don't even have the option to add NFC quick tile. I've tried toggling NFC both on and off and looking for the tile with no luck either.
Mine is also disabled. I probably only have it because I transferred my settings from another phone that had the tile there already. I wonder if/why Google is phasing out the NFC toggle
I also cannot use the quick tile toggle
My 4a also disabled.
I think that it is because the data/settings were migrated from the previous phone that has NFC icon in QS panel.
The NFC toggle works fine for me, BUT... my phone is rooted.
I installed the Quick Settings app (by Simone Sestito) to get the NFC toggle, then granted it superuser permissions.

My 4a is also rooted, yet the (previously) built-in quick toggle is disabled as previously described.

To test this I just froze the Quick Settings app I installed and I don't even see NFC among the default choices. Only unfreezing the app adds it back, so maybe you're seeing something that was there from previous settings you restored? I think it's odd that Google didn't put it there by default, but it appears they didn't?
I actually factory reset mine last night and didn't restore from any backup. The NFC quick toggle is gone now.

Yep, that's exactly the conclusion I came to earlier. Google definitely removed the tile for it. Seems like a strange decision to me, though.
FWIW, seems to be not fixed in the latest 11 build.

This isn't normal, you could try deleting and recreating your profile since it seems to work as a different user or doing a factory reset if you're paranoid about what may have caused the issue in the first place.
Google chat support also suggested a factory reset after safe mode and resetting network settings, so it looks like that's the plan. Just added a user to my 5x and the wifi icons are shown in both profiles.

Those things can be turned on or off in the system ui tuner in settings. You don't see it in settings by default though so unless you've already enabled it you'll have to do that first. Pull down the notification bar so you can see your quick toggles and then press and hold the settings icon at the top right until you see a message about system tuner being enabled. Then go in settings and you'll find it near the bottom. See if they are disabled in there. If not, try toggling them on. If they are already on try toggling them off and then on again and see if that works. If not, maybe try toggling them off, reboot and toggle them back on.

I had system ui tuner enabled for a while now. Disabled and the icons reappeared. Re-enabled and they are still there, no reboot required. For good measure, I removed the wifi and cellular data tiles, an still have the icons.
It's unfortunate that google support suggests a factory reset when there is a much quicker and less intrusive method to correct this issue.

Hello,
Since there's no more LED in the Pixel 3, I want ambient display to turn on when notification come in (as they normally do), but stay on till I wake up device and dismiss the notification, then turn off when there's no notification.
I was wondering if anyone knows how to enable this via tasker or any other app.
Is anything like this possible?
Thank you!
LED blinker pro has been talked about. Give that app a try.

That would be a great alternative to the always on display. I would love to know if there was a trick to make that work. Otherwise, yes, there are a bunch of screen led notification apps on the play store, but I haven't found any that play nicely with the default lockscreen. Some notifications work well, others dont. Give it a try though.

Yes you can do this via tasker.. in fact the latest versions have it built in.. just look under settings for "custom setting". Click the little search icon under name and it will help you find it by toggling it.
I just set it to enable ambient when a notification comes in and then turn the screen on once (you can turn ambient on when the screen is off, but it wont actually work until the screen has turned on once), and disable it either when the notification is cleared, or when you unlock the screen. Seems to work well...

I just want to:
- Thank you for the idea. I was a little bit concerned about the lack of notification led, and also didn't like LED Blinker Pro and similar...
- Note that actually you don't need root to let Tasker toggle Secure Settings... You just need to grant Tasker permissions to change Secure Settings via adb (tasker help guides you to do so). It was quite straighforward, and now my phone acts exactly as I wanted!
Thanks again.

I have root - but can you please explain how you got tasker to do this for you. I haven't used tasker since the Android 2.2 days so I'm basically a newb. Or, I think you can simply export your tasker profile so I can import it directly. Whichever is easiest for you.
Well... my profile fits my needs, but may not fit yours... Also I must do some fine tunning, as it stills doesn't act as I would love. Sometimes AOD is not deactivated, and I must find why. But 90% of the time it's working Ok.
Anyway, I PM you my config so you can test it.
Let me export and send it to you.
You can enable ambient display to show when you get a notification through System > Display > Ambient > New Notifications.
I've just created an app called Pixel Pulse. I could use some testers if anyone is willing to give it a try. You can select the apps you want to have the app pulse your Ambient Display. There's paid customization for icons and colors but the core functionality of the app is free.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.compass.pixelpulse
If you had previously purchased Ambi-Turner, it has been updated for the new permissions, but because it was written for 8.0 and when Google's ambient display worked differently I decided to leave it as it is. You may however transfer your purchase status of Ambient Display to Pixel Pulse using both apps.

This is not the issue, we're trying to replicate the functionality of the LED pulse so that we can see missed notifications. Ambient display only wakes for a few seconds and then never again.

I was talking exactly about that when I told you to customize to your needs. In my "ON" profile, I just want some apps notifications to trigger it. If you can't deselect some apps, you could try to open the .xml file with a text editor before importing, and delete them there.

Doesn't really work on my PIxel 3a XL (Android 10).
Pixel Pulse is installed and enabled, battery optimazion disabled, Pulse interval set to 8s, gmail and WhatsApp set to "Pulse" and "Show All", Display > Lockscreen > Always on disabled and Display > Lockscreen > New notifications enabled.
But does not pulse. New notification is shown for some seconds (like without Pixel Pulse), after hiding, maybe the pixel pulse notification will show up one or two times (but faster than 8 seconds!) and after that nothing more.
AmbiTuner also doesn't seem to work.
I've just yesterday gotten a Mi Mix 3 and set it up accordingly, and I'm finding MIUI okay as a whole except for some issues with notifications I'm having. Basically:
Some apps that send push notifications will only send them to the notification shade. No notification icon, no pop-up alert, no lock screen notification (more on that later), no sound, no vibration, no notification light. This is all completely independent of the notification settings of the app. I can turn everything on and it still won't show. Some apps show fine, such as discord and messages, but they still won't show on the lockscreen:
No notifications showing on the lockscreen at all. For apps that do send notifications, only the sound and notification light will display when I receive one, but checking both the lockscreen and notification shade whilst the phone is locked will show me nothing until I unlock it. This is while "Lock screen notifications" is enabled in the app notification channel.
No per-app notification sounds. This is most likely less of a bug and more of a missing implementation, but since this is a base Android feature now is there alternate way to enable these?
Settings specific to these issues:
In "Lockscreen & Password / Advanced Settings / On Lock Screen" the phone is set to "Show all notifications and their contents".
In "Lockscreen & Password / Notifications" it's set to "Show Animation".
In "Notifications & Status bar" "Show notification icons" and "Show on lock screen" is on.
MIUI version is fully updated at 10.2.1.
Anyone got any idea?
Many thanks
For me i had to activate it for each app seperately, that i wanted notifications from. Except for apps that already gave me notifications like snapchat. I know i had to do it manually on instagram for example

Strangely, by going into the app notification settings and changing the settings off and on again it seems to have fixed the problem? At least for the actual app's I've tested (twitter and discord).
I've also tried with an app called push notification tester however and this has the same 1. and 2. issues. I'm not sure what the difference is but if it works for important stuff at least that's what matters.
To everyone else the 3rd question still stands; is there a way to get app-specific notification sounds in MIUI 10?
The simple solution is to install a non-MIUI-based ROM.
Have someone found out how to set per app notification sound?

Literally burst out laughing in a meeting where I'm the lowest man on the totem pole by far, oops.
I'm having this same problem again myself
Even Xiaomi apps like YiCam don't work right half the time.
The notification inconsistency in MIUI is one of the biggest reasons that I just listed mine for sale. No matter how many times I've gone through individual app settings and overall notification settings, it never works as expected. And my expectation is only for it to work as the settings that I've selected indicate. It makes me a little sad actually... this was my first Xiaomi device and I ended up liking MIUI way more than I thought I would (especially compared to EMUI... which is complete trash). Oh well... on to the next.
I run an app called Notification Repeater(apk) and it seems to address any of the inconsistencies that MIUI has with Notifications(or lack there of). I use another app called AutoNotification(by joaomgcd on the Play Store i believe) to block some notifications such as "x app is diplaying over other apps" that never seem to go away.
I know it kind of sucks to have to find a work around to use a phone when realistically it would be nice if your phone just worked the way you wanted it to out of the box..but since installing these apps i have been more than happy with my current situations when it comes to Notifications.
I've also had similar problems. In addition to manually turning on each apps notification in settings (Have to remember this for every time I download an app as well) I've aslo downloaded the app 'Notification Repeater' which has helped significantly. I get absolutely ZERO notifications on the lock screen though which is something I still haven't figured out how to fix without switching ROMs. I hope someone can figure something out.

I got my Note 10 Plus today and everything on it. Anyway, the notification icons do NOT show up on the always on, or on the notification bar on the home screen and on the app buttons. Like if I want to check Gmail or my Samsung email app I have to manually go in and check it.
I checked the apps permissions and I got notifications set on for all of them.
What gives?
Do I need to do factory reset?

My Gmail wasn't updating in the background until I went to app settings and TURNED OFF battery optimization for Gmail. It looks like the phone kills the app to save battery, thus stopping new email notifications coming through until you open the app

My GF has a Note 8 and regardless of the settings it loves putting apps to sleep which causes missed notifications. My OP6T used to occasionally get missed notifications but compared to the Note 8 it's very well behaved.
Companies are getting too aggressive with their battery optimisations
I am having this issue as well. I have scoured the web for answers. I have tried all fixes but nothing seems to work. Anyone find a resolve yet?
I had the same issue then figured out it happened with the Goodlock app. Instead of trying to tweak the settings in just uninstalled the app and got all of my notifications back!
I've decided I rly don't want the nav bar. I prefer the Samsung three button swipe up method. How much of my current setup can I get back should I unlock the bootloader to root and therefore factory reset my device?
...Unless there's an option to hide the nav bar without root
Thank you.
For me, factory resetting really isn't all that bad. Been doing roms since 2011, so starting fresh is a reoccurring thing for me.
My important photos/videos are backed up through Google Photos while my SMS/MMS are backed up through SMS Backup and Restore. Everything else, pretty much just login through apps with a password manager. System settings, I go through one-by-one and set them up every single time, but that only takes but so long.
Maybe someone could add some stuff that requires manually backing up those apps specifically?

vivid navigation gestures paired with aospmods is the only way to hide the navigation bar. afaik the setting to hide the navbar within vivid NG doesn't work. need root
I could be completely wrong with what you are after regarding the swipe options, but try this for the 3 button navigation. (Translated from Dutch, so menu might look a little bit different)
Settings > System > gestures > system navigation
Here you can disable the swipe, and enable the 3 buttons option.
I'm using the Xposed Edge app to hide the navigation pill. I also have the None Display Cutout module installed which, in conjunction with the Xposed Edge app, I can toggle the Status bar too.
