New owner and a few questions - Honor 6X Questions & Answers

So I bought this phone a week ago as an upgrade from my stylo 2 plus and I must say so far I'm really liking this phone. Had a few questions though. So I didn't know that the 7x was out when I bought this phone. If I did I probably would've gotten that phone, but now that I have it would it be worth it to return this phone and get the 7x instead? Also are there any major known issues with this phone?

No major issues, and the 7X is better.

Go with 7X. Oreo is more than confirm for it :good:

I suggest to go for 7X too.

I am in the same boat and I'm going to stick with the 6X for a bit. I don't feel like dropping another $200 on the 7X so close to having purchased the 6X. I'll wait and see what comes out in the Fall of 2018 and/or what announcements are made regarding all budget-type phones.

The 7X isn't a noticeable upgrade compared to the 6X

Gyro is enabled on the Indian model through an OTA update from I've seen.

It definitely is

But still 7X would be a good option as Oreo is confirmed 100% and also upgraded SoC, better camera amd almost same price as of 6X so not an issue at all

Honor 8 - worth buying?

OnePlus 3T / Honor 8 / Axon 7 - which is better?
I want strong battery and good camera.
Honor 8 have better camera than OP3T? good pictures on low light conditions?
what about development community?
1. The best phone is the one that suits your needs or most of them
2.There is no perfect phone hat you gain somewhere you lose elsewhere
3.There are a gazillion of reviews on youtube about the phones you want to check
4. The development for honor 8 is as you can see on roms, kernels section
I would choose between Honor 8 and OnePlus 3T. To be honest i wanted the OP3T very very much but i finished buying the H8.
If you want good 3D performance for gaming, decent camera and aluminium build go for OP3T.
If you want a fcking beautifull design,a very fast phone in daily use, decent camera but you dont play to much graphics intensive games go for H8.
I cant make a difference between this 2,both are amazing smarthones but let's say something more.
H8 is not a phone to throw,i think even a little drop would crack some glass and it's very very slippery. A case and a tempered glass is recommended. But we didnt forgot the OP3T ? Why i didnt get it ? Come one,on the site it's says "Delivered whithin 9 days"... I think they wanted to say 9 months but let's forget that. The other problem is that a lot of people are saying that is better to dont get a device with snappdragon 821 because drains battery faster. After all it's an amazing phone, but the kirin 950 runs faster than snap 821 in real test. The battery it's fine too,i get every time like 5-6h SoT and i'm ok with that. But i have only one problem with, the zoom, dont even think to take a photo or a video with zoom. I hope you understand what i tryed to say and i hope this will help you 👍
Btw,this phone worth buying.
Just go with the 3T if you want development and good camera
one plus has best support and community
But H8 have better camera than OP3T, No?
no customs roms for H8 and stock isnt very good..
OP3T get 8-9h SOT sometimes...
I dont know which is better to me.
I dont playing heavy games.

If you can pay and wait months for the phone go get the OP3T.
I can't say which camera is better, you can look on youtube reviews.
Why wait months? 10 days delivery.

Just go on their facebook page and see how lots of people are complaining about the delivery time. Some bought the phone in the first day of launch and they are still waiting for it.
This was a difficult choice for me as well. I had OnePlus in the past, one of the thing that annoyed me most them were various bugs in their firmware, although I can't comment how they are doing now with OxygenOS.
To me OnePlus 3T is overall a better device for consumption. Bigger AMOLED screen and very fast performance with lots of rams for both apps and games. Also lots of custom roms support.
In term of camera I think it depends on what you use it for. The 3T will clearly be better for video recording since it has 4K recording and OIS. Although it's 16MP front camera seems to be a downgrade compared the 8MP on the original 3, because of much smaller pixel size letting in less lights.
To me the Honor 8 is better for still shots because of the larger pixel size and the dual camera which really help with dynamics. The Honor 8 can decent photos late in the day and gets really sharp with macroshots.
I think you only pick the Honor 8 if you want specific things from it. Like the smaller size, microSD support and the good camera for photos, those were more important factors to me than performance. On the software size, Huawei have lots to improve, but Nougat version is coming out in Feb.

I like the Honor design and because it I want to buy this phone...
I dont know!!!
In my opinion the Honor 8 is an excellent phone. As said before there is always a trade off with any phones you'll ever consider. After having my Honor 8 for the past 2 months or so here are my impressions of it so far.
The camera on the Honor 8 is excellent for still photos and does fairly well in low light shots because of the monochrome sensor.
One concern I've seen many reviewers commenting on was the fact that the Honor 8 has a 1080p display. Even though it isn't 1440p the display is crisp and shows no pixelation. The screen on default color settings has a bit of a blue hue to it but that can easily be changed in the settings to a warmer more seemingly accurate color profile.
The Kirin processor is an excellent CPU, very efficient and performs well. The GPU will suffice for I'd probably 99% of the games available for Android. It also comes with a nice 4GB of RAM and I haven't had many issues with it needing to reload recently opened apps.
Although Huawei skinned Android with their EMUI it really isn't the worst UI I've seen on a phone. Though, if you do get the Honor 8 then I highly recommend updating to the Nougat beta. Now, one of the most impressive aspects of this phone however is the fingerprint scanner. It's one of the quickest and most accurate I've ever used. I don't think any phone that has a fingerprint scanner can compete with the Honor 8's.
My previous phone was a Galaxy S7 and one thing I have to say is that my S7 much like most Samsung phones in the past have so many gimmicky features that I find useless. Unlike the S7 though the Honor 8 in this aspect has a wide variety of actually useful features. One of those features is the Smart key which is a button apart of the fingerprint scanner. You can set it to open apps, turn on flashlight, camera, etc.
Overall, much like the vast majority of people who have bought the Honor 8 I'm extremely satisfied with the phone.
Honor 8 is cheaper too, you can get one for less than $300.

There is a way to upgrade to latest beta without any boot unlocking/rooting/wiping your data/etc.
Haven't encountered any issues on the beta and it's even more fluid, functional and beautiful than EMUI 4.1.

Then go with the 3T, as honor 8 have poor development. (1+ released all the necessary files for the development of the 3T)
But Honor 8 is more beautiful and better camera...

Worth the price increase over a 6X / alternatives

Mentioned this in the 6X forum, but figured I'll ask here, too.
I need a phone for travelling. My main phone is an iPhone 6S, but I want something a little cheaper and with dual SIM support so I can use my normal number with a another SIM whilst abroad. Having used Android way before iPhone, and owning a Shield Tablet and TV, figured it'd be a nice way to get back into Android.
I returned a OnePlus 3T last month because, although good, I didn't like the camera.
So, I'm looking for a budget device, that has a decent spec (occasional gaming) and pretty good camera, fingerprint scanner and possibly NFC for Android Pay. USB-C and fast charge would be nice.
I've been looking at the WileyFox Swift 2 which is about £180. Snapdragon 430, 3GB RAM, fingerprint scanner, NFC, USB-C and quick charge. Low res screen (720), slower CPU and 'okay' camera. Gorilla glass.
£40 more is the 6X, EU version has all of the above, but no USB-C, terrible screen quality in terms of durability and no oleohobic coating. Micro USB. Not sure on CPU performance.
Or the best of the bunch, the Honor 8. Only it's £180 more than the 6X.
Is it worth the price over the other 2, or is there something else I can look at. Xiaomi's seem good, but lack LTE 800mhz / band 20 and no NFC for the global versions of the Redmi Note 4, which ships in March.
The only thing I can say is that the Honor 8 is an amazing device, I got mine for 325€ during a sale and I haven't regretted it...
The camera is amazing! It is so much better than my old Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, and it can shoot really sharp images (In good lightning)
However if there isn't that much light, images will become a little grainy (As on most smartphones)
Then we have the software... I almost got the Honor 7 in 2015 but I ended up not buying it because of the software (EMUI). But since I got such a great deal on the Honor 8 I decided to actually try it out and I must say EMUI 4.1 which I got the phone with was a lot different from my previous Android experience (Cyanogenmod 13) but it so many good features built in.
And today I got the EMUI 5 update and I must say, it's a lot closer to AOSP and I like it
Also this phone is very fast!
If you can get this phone for under 400€ then it's a great deal! I don't know that much about the other phones mentioned but I really recommend the Honor 8! Hope this helps you decide, if you have any questions regarding the Honor 8 feel free to ask
If you returned the oneplus3T because it wasn't good enough, nothing will please you.
Got myself upgrade from galaxy note 3.
I thought it was fast but honor 8 is faster in all aspects.
This is the best phone I used

Huh? I didn't say it wasn't good enough. Everything other than the camera and mic quality was perfect.
For example. I took a photo of my dog as he was barking for attention, with both my 6S and the 3T. The 6S could capture the photo, the 3T pic was blurred. The only way to remedy this was to use manual mode and increase the shutter speed, and even then, I couldn't use flash. Mic quality in wasn't outstanding in Whatsapp etc.

Choose this over Honor 8?

So I'm having trouble deciding between the 6x and the 8. I'm coming from a Nextbit Robin with a Snapdragon 808 and 3GB of RAM. I use NFC to bump to my camera, but I can live without it if it saves me enough money.
I'm gathering that the 6X display isn't quite as nice as the honor 8's (density, lack of oleophobic, etc), but otherwise how is the performance and what made you pick the budget version over the more expensive "flagship" 8? I must admit, one of my big hesitations is EMUI- I'm a fan of stock Android, and many of my touchwiz etc devices have been flashed to CM/OmniRom/Lineage OS, etc to get the original Android feel back. Heck, even my Nextbit robin which is quite stock out of the box aside from a custom launcher, is now running OmniRom with more-or-less weekly updates that are surprisingly stable. Which of the two phones have more stock-like custom roms available?
I'd think the 8, but I'm seeing a lot of unfinished WIPs Anything stable enough for daily driver on the Honor or 6x?
Hi, the performance of this phone fits well with an high usage, i came from a dead S4 Mini on this phone due to the report price/quality and I'm very satisfied; it never gets hot, so the ram is well managed by the SoC and camera quality is awesome, for example; the only thing that suffers on devices with Huawei's Kirin processors, for as much they can handle the phone well, is a strong development community behind. We have a team working on custom Roms, but as you could imagine it can't be compared to the strength of devices powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors, wide open to third-party development, and so supported by many more teams of developers. Huawei released sources for Honor 8 and 6X too, but there are still some known bugs on cooked roms; like the possibility to use the stock Huawei camera app, that gives his best on pictures results. Or HwComposer bug, that have an impact on UI performances making it laggy. Looks like other developers aren't interested in working with Kirin processors at the moment. Aside this, i dunno if custom ROMs situation at the moment is better on 6X or 8 because i own a 6X and i know a few about honor 8, but not the state of rom development. It should be better on 8 at the moment if I'm not wrong, but bugs mentioned above are still present. If you mind to have a strong mid-range phone at a good price, go for 6X. If you want some more, go for 8
Yeah, the unique dual-sensor camera is something I'm concerned about as I'm sure that isn't even close to standardized, so I was thinking it would probably only work properly on the original factory firmware. Camera is a pretty significant part of the decision process on this phone, so having to choose between clean Google UI without any unexpected quirks (I've heard about EMUI's power management aggressively closing background apps among other things), or having that beautiful camera work properly.
With all due respect, coming from the S4 Mini this must have been a huge upgrade for you! The s4 mini didn't even have 2GB of ram if I recall correctly, and very underpowered dual core CPU. I'm coming from a Snapdragon flagship-class chip with 3GB.
[double post by accident]
I agree with you, to me camera is an important thing too to keep in mind while choosing a device. Here surely you wouldn't make a wrong step, I am very satisfied by the camera that this phone is carrying with him. EMUI's background killer instinct is adjustable however it let you choose which apps kill or not, something similar to Greenify.
Regarding my old Sammy, it's bad that it just hard-broke one day from another due to a simple call received. I answered, and then it suddenly shut off... Forever. I've tried a lot of stuff, nothing worked. It's a stone now. I'm sure that this is exactly a programmed obsolescence by Samsung, especially after the hundreds, or better, thousands of help threads that I've seen appearing both on XDA and other tech forums in the same splice of time. You're right it had 1,5GB of ram, it has been a great jump of performances indeed. Which phone you have anyway?

I'm using a P8 Lite 2017, and the 12MP camera is amazing, so I can only imagine the Honor 6X is even better. I came from a Galaxy Note 4 (Snapdragon 805 and 3GB RAM) and I can assure you that the Kirin 655 is well optimized. I'd say go for the 6X and have money to spare. You won't be disappointed

I find battery life with the 3000mah battery in my P8 Lite 2017 mediocre. The phone shipped with Nougat out of the box so I don't have experience with the Kirin 655 on Marshmallow. However, my Huawei P8 had great battery life on Marshmallow even though it used a power hungry Kirin 930 and had a substantially smaller battery. Nougat and EMUI 5 is brilliant however as it has the app drawer option finally available. I also like the quick toggles and notification shade. I wish we had the transparent notification shade and more gestures like the high end devices. Rooting is very risky at the moment as there is too many steps. It's disappointing that the UI elements were disabled in the software
What is the price difference between these two models on your region. That is also one of the biggest factor for comparison.
Camera - is better on 8 and does well woth same MP of pixels for rear cam amd performs well in low light as well. With that said, 6X is definitely not a bad option for camwra, it does well dor sure.
Battery -better on 6X, i think, with 3340 mAh but as honor 8 has a smalled screen, it may be neck to neck here.
Design- both has it own cons and pros. 8 is simply awesome in blue but with glass design you may need to be careful as it may be slippery. On the other hand, 6X looks stunning in metal body but camera bump is bad and could be damagee easily if not managed. Design wise, 8 is better on any day.
Custom rom development- 8 has got many roms than 6X and i dont we may see much here for 6X.
Android O update- not officially disclosed but 8 will get (99.99%) and there are lot of confusion on 6X update but it should get (99.98% LOL).
Screen size- 5.2 of Honor 8 is much handy and easily carried in pocket than 6X but if you dont have issues with 5.5 inch screen.
Dual sim- your region may not have dual sim support (Indian variant has this issue)
Honor 8 was a upper mid range flagship level phone and 6X is excellent mid range model.
Rest your choice :good:

I agree, the drawer is way better, using a launcher could help even if this wouldn't happened already with the upgrade to EMUI 5 but giving the chance to the user to choose the home style is a must. For transparent notification menu, there's a voice in the local.prop file in root/system/emui/lite/prop that with a little change of a Boolean value from true to false, gives transparent notification panel and enables the camera to shoot raw pictures (if didn't enabled already by default), but could have an impact on UI with some lags while scrolling. I had rooted my phone 3 weeks after that i bought it and even if harder than other phones, it was essential to enable an adblock and another feature not available by default on all 6X models, it's the call record feature. Some countries have it enabled from beginning, other not because more restrictive in privacy laws. But here on XDA i found everything that was necessary to do it

Depends on what you want. If you want an 18:9 screen with a small bezel at a low price, there are only two choices, that one and a midrange device from LG, and I think LG's midrange phones are worse than Huawei's (Honor) now. If you don't mind having 16:9, and, seriously, 16:9 is better supported with media display, Motorola makes some nice Moto G series devices. (Currently fiifth generation).
Also, I hear Xiaomi makes some good devices, especially their new Android One device if you don't want MIUI, but since they aren't available in the US I don't know all that much about their line up to get more specific than that.
It seems like 7x is going to have very similar internal specs. The base model will now have 1GB more RAM. They even retained the ancient micro-usb connector. So the only spec that matters is the bigger 18:9 ratio screen. I wish I could see the 7x, but the stores don't carry it yet. For my needs, the 6X screen seems to be near perfect size.

What are oppo like for firmware updates / is camera amazing

I've never had an oppo before what are they like in firmware updates? Do you wait for ever or are they quite prompt for example what month security are you all on??
Also is the camera good (other option is the xperia 1 Mark 2 as I've a massive photographer)
Thanks in advance

I was going to move from.iphone to p40 pro however my banks have said they are unlikely to ever support the huawei system so am looking at something different than for example Samsung

My find x2 pro has the june security patch but i think other carriers already have the july update and with each security update they always have other things in the updates not just security patches like samsung do, also the camera in my opinion is better than samsung , samsung photos always seem quite grainy and the 120hz + QHD+ run at the same time unlike samsung and 1 billion colour display on the find x2 pro make things looks way smoother in terms of the colour spectrum/range.
Plus this phones charges up from 0 to 100 in like 35 mins.
Brilliant thank you as long as it's not months behind I'm happy...

The Find X2 Pro is fairly recent however I'm on the June security patch now which is the latest for my region, July incoming soon I believe.
Additionally this phone outclasses any Samsung on the market & will continue to do so even when the Note 20 comes out next month because Samsung cripple us with their lackluster Exynos chipsets.
Camera quality is amazing, I came from a Note 10+ to the Find X2 Pro and don't regret it whatsoever, the custom built sensor is outstanding and has amazing colour accuracy.
As for the display, 3K, 120hz, HDR certified, with 1 billion colours, & calibrated to perfection by Oppo, even outclassing the likes of the OnePlus 8 Pro.
Need I say more?

You made it sound that good i want to buy another one lol
Hi I just recently returned the Xperia 1ii and decided to try the Oppo Find X2 Pro
First impressions have been positive. The camera does seem to be better than the Xperia and that is me using the Manuel modes with photo Pro on the Xperia
Screen is just as good and I like what Colour OS has built into its software.
Xperia had issues with video recording as it was causing a hissing sound so it was a big deal breaker.
Enjoying it so far and hope I will continue to do so
I read a few horror stories about the xperia 1 ii I loved the advance software for camera but rubbish front camera and also issues with software so glad have ordered the oppo one it's landing tomorrow can't wait

@mancuk29 bare in mind this could just be select devices, not a widespread issue

from the 100 telegram users that have the phone i'd say 80% have that and the other 20% don't know how to replicate it.
And customer support is the worst i've seen.
everything else is pretty good.
Is that on the Sony and not the oppo ? please tell me it's the sony
Oppo just released another update today A30, waiting on a download file or try and vpn it

Yes I'm on EE in the UK, if you haven't received it yet, others are reporting that using a VPN & setting it to Italy will find the update
