Internal storage acting up - General Questions and Answers

My phone won't let me download pictures, create any new folders, move or copy files to other folders, and chrome keeps deleting my tabs. When I go to delete files it says external storage files can not be removed to recycle bin. It says my storage is full but I still have 723 Mb free. It does let me delete files just not do anything else with them. When I try to download a picture through chrome it immediately pauses the download and when I try to resume it it pauses again. When I try to take screenshots it says can not take screenshot due to security policy in a little grey bubble near the bottom of the screen. It won't let any apps save pictures and whenever I restart the phone all my settings are reset to default and my app locker is disengaged. It won't let me download or update apps either and I get an error 963 or 492 from Google play. It will not allow me to send pictures with any apps either such as skype, Instagram, amino, etc. Apps randomly crash as well even when I'm not using them. I've tried clearing the cache with no success as well as unistalling all play store updates. The camera will not take pictures either, the shutter will click but no picture is saved. Any help is appreciated xc my phone is a Samsung Galaxy J3 running Android 7.0 and it is not rooted.

Have you tried to clearing playstore cache& data? Uninstall playstore updates?

Yes i have it didn't change anything my storage is still acting strange. When I use certain apps they'll keep refreshing pictures and files and apps like it's rescanning them over and over. Almost like if an SD card was being mounted and unmounted rapidly but it's the internal storage

No Photos or Videos found Gallery issue

Running Stock, Unrooted, 4.03
A while ago my pictures disapeared from my Gallery with the "No Photos or Videos found" message, I have tried everything to get them to appear, occasionaly a couple of folders will show up, but only Camera Shots and All Photos ones, and then they will only show the first 500 images taken.
Because of this error I cannot use my Camera as it will not save anywhere.
It doesn't show any other folders including downloads, documents or videos, which it used to do.
There are no .nomedia files present, I have tried media scanning tools (SDRescan, Rescan Media, Rescan SD etc) these will work some of the time but not all the time, I have tried different cards which I know are not faulty and I have the same issue, I have formatted the cards and still the problem persists :'(
Any help is appreciated!
*edit: Thinking about it, one thing I haven't tried is reinstalling the Gallery itself, does anyone have a link to the Stock Gallery APK? Or would it not make a difference?
Have you tried clearing the cache and data from the gallery app? Settings->manage apps->all apps-> gallery
Just Clear the Cache and unmount then remount your memory card...
i was having a similiar problem with my music on the viperS 1.1.0 rom.
i waited for the music app to automatically pick up the music in my memory card... over two days and quite a few reboots cos i was flashing mods.... but no luck.
The unmount/remount trick worked flawlessly.
No Cache to clear and remounting didn't do the trick either =[
Anyone?
Clear Data in the Gallery and Music Apps, then reboot.

Tried that, no luck
Go to settings >apps >all >Media Storage. Clear data on Media Storage, then reboot. This will force the phone to rescan your sd card for all media files, pictures, music.
Hope this helps.
what is the solution ?
Guys I face the same problem even with my music..!!!
I tried to clear Cache and data from gallery, music and media storage. Also I tried to unmount/remount of SD card but still nothing fixed
Notice that I face this problem with CM9 only
However if I use ES explorer I can find my music and photos !!!
The problem is this tweak located in system/etc/init.d/40ext4tweaks
#SQlite Speed Boost
sleep 1
for i in \`busybox find /d* -iname "*.db"\`; do
sqlite3 \$i 'VACUUM;';
echo " VACUUMED: \$i"
sqlite3 \$i 'REINDEX;';
echo " REINDEXED: \$i"
done
echo "SQlite Cleanup Complete";
Open that file with solid explorer or root explorer and delete the text that i've posted.
Then clear data Gallery and Music.
Reboot and all will work.
Bye
I couldn't find this "40ext4tweaks"
In the system/etc/init.d
I found 2 files only which are "00banner" and "90userinit"
What should I do ?

Actually, it appears that the latest update for ROM Manager causes this issue.
If you uninstall all updates for ROM Manager, clear Media Storage cache/data, then reboot into recovery, clear delvik and cache, that SHOULD fix it, as long as the .nomedia file from the root of your SD card has already been removed.
Hope this helps!
Solve
Next thing helps to me fix this when it comes:
I'm wiping Media cache data and rebooting the phone. After that gallery works fine, it also does reindex of all photo-video stuff first launch.
1. Wipe Media Storage
2. Reboot
solved
i have this problem since remove fast boot check !
when active this option, problem was solved.

[Q] Uninstalled gallery app! :/

Hello guys! I have a Samsung Galaxy s3 rooted device and have a problem! I'm using Titanium Backup to backup all apps and datas and a week ago my Gallery app started crashing and/or blocking, blocking the whole device and I couldn't get why...it was really boring and i trying something i shouldn't have had to...I uninstalled the gallery app with titanium backup as I thought i could reinstall it from the backup, but now it's not possible to recover it anymore!
I've even tried to do a factory reset, but it didn't work either!
Can someone help me please!? I don't have a gallery app anymore!
Plus, I have problems writing on the memory card on my s3 and don't know why..i can't copy files from pc to mobile sd, like if it was blocked from writing...anyone?
for your gallery problem:
download quickpic.
its a million times better than the normal gallery. if you see the advantages of qucikpic you will never miss the normal gallery.
for your memory card:
try to plug it into the pc. maybe via an adapter.
if the problem is not there via directly plugged into the pc then tell me and i look into it further
if the problem is also there via plugged in:
maybe try to copy all data from SD to PC and format the SD card.

thank you for answering..I've tried quickpic and it is good, it's true..but what bothers me is that all the incorporated links in the apps to the gallery are missing, like for example the link in the camera app to the gallery to check the pic you've just taken is missing...

How to stop Android from caching thumbnails?

Yesterday I finally got around to shifting my entire music collection to my external SD card, and then I uploaded all my music to Google Drive as well for safe keeping. Woke up the next day missing over 1.5GB of internal storage space. I checked Android assistant and my thumbnail cache was 1.88GB. It's usually pretty high anyway since I have dozens of podcasts, videos, and even some full movies on my external SD card, but now it's ballooned out of control. How can I stop Android from forcing these thumbnails that I don't want associated with my files?
Galaxy S4 stock 4.2.2 and rooted if that makes any difference.
I don't think there's a certain way to prevent this unless someone has a tool for. You'll just have to clear / delete the files as you go along.

The problem is that even after I delete the bloated thumbnail cache, at least according to my settings menu, the internal storage remains the same. So it seems that the space is reserved for the inevitable refreshing of the thumbnail cache that comes every time I reboot or my music gallery is opened. It just annoys me that so much valuable internal space is taken up by something so pointless. If I could find a way to have thumbnails save automatically to my external SD card, I would be happy enough with that.
Hello, I'm not sure how to stop thumbnail caching but try and clear cache its self

Unfortunately clearing the thumbnail cache does nothing. The internal storage remains the same and the thumbnails are back on reboot all the same.

[Q] Insufficient storage

My Nexus S (GT-I9020)keeps giving me an "insufficient storage" message. Particularly when updating "Google Newstand".
So I have cleared out lots of Photos and music and stuff. Cleared caches. Moved stuff to SD etc. Still keeps happening.
So while connected to my PC by USB, I ran "Treesize" on it, and it tells me that I have 9.87Gb free. What is the problem?
Of the few Gigabytes that are used, by far the biggest folder is called "DCIM", I know that this is where pictures are stored, but I have cleared out loads of photos. The largest file in there is called " thumbdata", at 966Mb by far the largest file on the entire phone. What is this waste of space? Can I delete it?
It seems that whenever I take a pic. with my phone, it is stored there, then a little while later a second copy appears thanks to Google upload or something, but the new copy is not as high res as the original. I do want Google to upload my photos back to my PC, but why does it have to send them back to the phone? How do I stop this? I spend too much time deleting copies of pics that are already on the phone in original. I think that the thumbnails folder is a result of all this.
The biggest memory hog after DCIM is Clockwork Mod, within it a folder called "blobs". What is it and can I delete it?
The Next biggest memory hog is called "TWRP". What is it? Can I delete it?
Is there a guide to what all these things mean and do, for us learners?

I have 51 countable icons for apps, 102 in the list of "All apps." which includes all sorts of android stuff.
Under "downloaded" (36 apps) internal storage shows 784Mb used, 224Mb free.
Under USB it shows 3.4Gb used, 9.9Gb free. Aha! so that's what Treesize is looking at.
I get it, my 1Gb of internal storage is being used up. I will try and move more apps to USB.
Is that it?
also check your system partition, google apps often go there, if you're not rooted you wont be able to free space on it, the system partition is about 500MB large so it gets easily filled up, it contains your android rom and system apps

Storage access bugged

Hey guys, new here, hope it's right to post this here and not in my device's section but it's probably pretty empty in there.. Anyways, i have a very strange problem with my storage access where apps can't properly see contents in my storage (both internal and sd card) meaning the following: apps know folders exist and that space is taken up, but they seem to be unable to actually read or write files somehow. For example the storage tab in the settings shows how much space is free but the categories like pictures, music etc files show 0 bites, except for apps, that section shows up fine. Another example: fx file explorer can't show the amount of used space in the general overview or the folder information tab. But when i actually go into a folder it does show how much space is used and how much is free. I can open a music file in the built in fx music player but when i try to open in an external app it cant play it, shows its at e.g. 116:27:01 out of 5:52 actual play time and that the media format may not be supported. I'd post screenshots but i cant actually make any as the system cant save them.
I have tried restarting, even had a security update from before a few days that i was to lazy to install so i did that, still no change. I also tried removing the sd card to no avail. Since the google play services were using up alot of battery i tried deleting cache, data and even updates for both them and the play store but it seems that this was just another symptom and not the cause. So i think the culprit might be the whatsapp beta version 2.19.365 which crashed at the splash screen for most of it's users. I somehow managed to update it but the problems started when i tried opening it so i don't see what else would be the culprit. I've already contacted their support but tbh i don't ecxpect much help from them.
I'm on an unrooted Honor 7x with Emui 9.1 (based on Android 9).
Does anybody have any idea on what i might try except for a factory reset? I would really like to avoid doing that.
I thsnk everybody who took their time to read and maybe even answer this. Hope your day is going better. Cheers
