Random Freezing - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone since having this phone, plain stock rooted, either KK, LL, or MM had at anytime random freezing? This would include apps or even with the keyboard.. I'm stock rooted LL 5.0 and started having this issue today.. I got the phone with MM, but personally do not like MM, as it seems not much in the way of TW roms.. I only had MM for a short time, before downgrading to LL. So this could be a software issue or hardware not sure.. I might go back to stock rooted MM to see. I also do not have any custom kernel with this, left everything alone and only have TWRP, and SU for root. Thanks.

Well after messing around, I figure it was software.. MM is a complete joke, went back down to LL and installed MOAR 7.1 and so far it's working just fine..

[Q] [NOOB] Flash a 4.4.2 custom rom over a 4.3 firmware ok?

I had some trouble rooting after I first did a 4.4.2 OTA. So I downgraded to 4.3 and got root and installed TWRP without any trouble.
So from a 4.3 firmware I went to Cyanogenmod (Android 4.4.2). Is that ok ? Or do I need to upgrade radio, boot or other parts that dont come with a custom rom? In other words: is a (rooted) 4.4.2 firmware a precondition for installing alternative 4.4.2 roms?
Well, everything might not work perfectly as many things (though little) changed from 4.3 to 4.4. Yup, most of those things (radio, etc) change, flashing a cm11 rom wont change those and cm will most likely need them. Better to upgrade to 4.4. Also, does ART (new kitkat runtime) need anything new from kernel or anything? I don't see anyone who seems to have tried this and might mostly not work.
Also, What root trouble did you have? Easier to solve that issue than deal with any new issues that might arise from this.

Thanks. I will look into that. The kernel is included in a ROM though wright? So that wont be an issue I guess... But just to be save I'll flash 4.4.2 firmware and start from there. My problem was I actually got root, but flashed custom roms always got stuck in the boot animation. The thread on that is here.

Kit Kat Rom that lets me unroot

I've been running Jans ported GPE rom on my work I9505.
I chose it as it is so close to stock I could remove root after install to use company email.
However it could be a little more stable. RR's and FC's are taking their toll.
I tried using ART and that bricked the phone so I reinstalled fresh.
Just now I thought I was going through another RR when I was in a hurry to open a page in Chrome and it will no longer boot, just the coloured circles over and over.
Can someone recommend another Rom that's very stock KK that would be ok to run with the phone not rooted?
I am guessing that the more custom Roms would need root access due to the higher functions they support.
Thanks
Vic
These are the forums for the SGH-T959V, a phone that had its last OEM ROM from Gingerbread. You probably want a different section of XDA.

Ha ha, you're right. I read it as Galaxy S4 4G. I will try again.

Help with B148

Hey guys,
So I went from B145>B148 and now I'm stuck. Can't root or go >B304>B312>B327...what I'm saying is, I'd rather go back to B145. I was very much fine with that version (rooted w/ KingUser then removed and installed w/ SuperSu). Everything else fine. Just wanted to see if there was any difference on B148, not too excited to go LP.
Any ideas how to go back down B145??
thanks!! :good::good:
Anything, anyone?
Downgrade firmware? Something?
Solved!
Alright, so with only a bunch of page views and no real help from anyone here on the forum...I was able to finally figure everything out on my own.
I was originally at C00B145 (and rooted, loved it), got curious with everyone talking bout the many other upgrades so >C00B148 (lost root, hated it. Stuck on firmware, couldn't root and for some reason could't go further), probably just me. Decided and risked on V100R001C900B308 rollback (success) but stuck again on temp transition, couldn't go anywhere. Failed on B137, B137SP03, B141, B145, and B148.
Solved: Re-flashed V100R001C900B308>C900B300 (rollback)>MT7-L09C900B324, backup recovery, system restore>kingroot, then installed SuperSU (deleting kingroot).
Rooted MT7-L09C900B324 5.1. Now, the only thing I'm missing so far is the Motion Control, which I only deal with the slider (not a big deal to me). I really like the double-window, knuckle/screenshot, and the few other interesting new features. Lots of ppl saying they don't have 4g available, but mine's fine...can switch between 3G/4G.
I did use two different region's firmware for the solve. No lags, and actually has good fluid response. Gonna keep on 5.1 for at least a week and see what's good on battery life, response and features...if I like it'll stay, otherwise I had no problem on B145 and might just go back down to KK.
Cheers!

inactive due to borked s5....... upgrade possibilties

Ok,,,,here is my plight...
about 6 months ago my s5 became unusable due to the fact that concrete and GS5's dont play well together...becoming more and more frustrated having to use an older phone (HTC ONE M7) i went ahead and threw caution to the wind and bought a new LCD digitizer for my GS5 and hoped for the best...
replaced my digitizer and VIOLA !! my phone booted and was exactly the same as it was the day before concrete and LCD collided..
after booting it up went in to check everything and all seems well....root was still good,,,just had to upgrade everything and move on..
my problem is that since it has been a while there have been so many changes as far as updates,,ROMs,,and other techniques i need to find out the steps to take and what would be my best plan of attack..
i am on MOAR v2.2 NE5 and when i installed that back when i first got the phone tripped KNOX,,but i dont think that is too much of a concern at this point...or is it ??
i have read alot of things about going to Lollipop but am not sure if i need to do anything except find a Firmware and flash it with Kies or if ODIN is a better way to go....it would be great if i were able to just jump right to MM but i know the chances of that happening are <0....
any help would be appreciated
thank you in advance
Well the latest version for this phone currently is Marshmallow, and there is a great mm n5 rom that is still a work in progress, but i reccomend downloading the full marshmallow restore tar file and using odin to update, then flash recovery, and then a rom of your choosing (currently the n5 rom or a version of cm13). But to flash a lollipop rom download the OK4 lollipop restore file (last version of lollipop 5.0) and do the same process.
hadn't heard much so i went ahead and downloaded an OK4 firmware and flashed with ODIN....works flawlessly setting up now
surprisingly enough,,,it kept all of my settings from MOAR.....hafta say that i am shocked.....gotta love Android

[Q] Staying on Marshmallow?

So how many of yourselves who have the S6 have chose to stick to Marshmallow and not upgraded to Nougat? Please give your reasons which would be great.
Personally the main reasons why I haven't tried any roms is moreso I don't like messing about with Magisk for root, there isn't too many choices in terms of kernel choice and also my own rom preference is something that is stock, very minimal mods and also debloated.
I hope supersu is updated to work properly with our device on nougat and although our device is getting old some further development kernel wise would be great, I'm currently running an old stock rom called CaS rom which works pretty well so I shall bide my time until there are more options.
SuperSU is working great on Nougat, I think the users are using wrong recovery image.
almost every standard thing you do with supersu you can do it with magisk so no reason to stay on MM just flash this rom and done https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/samsung-galaxy-s-6--s-6-edge-unified-development/noble-nougat-rom-1-0-t3565293
Dude you don't know how much Nougat is bad until you try...I am on mm with arter kernel this thing is awesome...I installed Nougat 2 days later I downloaded because of slow WiFi too much bs options battery the same nothing changed except the look it's even worse....Nougat need custom kernel that's all I can say
