So I found this in a thread on Reddit :
I didn't have to use adb at all so I'm not sure. I followed these instructions:
Went to samsung.firmware.science
Selected my phone, my currect firmware (which was BQK5 for me)
Selected ZQKO as the firmware to update to
Copied downloaded 'update.zip' file to my SDCard
Powered off my phone
Got into Recovery by pressing power+bixby+vol-up
Selected Update from SD Card
Selected my update.zip files
Update took about 18 minutes"
User claimed it worked on Verizon with no data loss, is there any truth to this?
I'm not sure I'd trust that site.
It absolutely works. Did it on my Verizon S8 as described above. Went from BQK5 to ZQKO and lost no data. The site can be trusted.
It's Reddit, not Anon.
I thought flashing those zips wipes data. Always does for me...
HOWEVER, 99.9% of people's bugs and complaints are because they didn't wipe before running the beta and were cured after a wipe.
Well assuming it does work, how would I know which beta version it is? Also what about future updates?
I'm not saying I don't trust reddit.
I'm saying I don't trust samsung.firmware.science (which is blocked by my company, saying it has PUPs)
The thing I don't like is the "unreleased" or "leak" stuff

Correct, but this is still a pretty sketchy site imo
I'd rather not take any risks for a beta that's probably going to end in about 2 months, but that's just me.
Apart from possibly being sketchy, it's not really 'all' devices either right? It's only the SM-G950U variants... (USA only?)
Still interesting though
Why are you giving people hope when you write "Oreo beta on all devices?" but when you go to the site only the u models are selectable?! Shame on you! There are much user with the f model and the can´t update!
Why install a firmware update from a three option web site , compromising your phone at the mercy of anyone ? This is bluntly stupid
is there a version for F or FD devices?
It is about being on the new version of android. If you did not make it in beta, then this one way of getting in on the action.
Website is fine, it's where I got all my updates from. It's for the s8 s8+ and note8 only. Obviously for G950F users you guys have root and can get any Oreo rom you want so don't complain that it's for snapdragon only
Doesn't work on Verizon S8
Tried it. It didn't work on Verizon Galaxy S8.

let me just put it this way. We cant give your phone a virus via a OTA without Samsung signatures. If we happened to have those we would just build it via AOSP and make TWRP and such. We could sign TWRP and make it for our phones without tripping knox. We could do all of that with signatures which we dont have. So trust me, if it works, its legit.

This was patched with the OTA pushed out a week or two ago so if you are running stock you're fine.
I did not take the latest OTA that supposedly dumbs down searching on the device.
I plan on sticking with stock-rooted. Is there a way to flash the security fix some other way?

I did not take the OTA either (did not want the search feature removed and Verizon snoopware installed). I am still on the original F2 (rooted, unlocked), I tested and my phone is vulnerable because it showed my IMEI number when tested. I then found this app (Telstop) which will help prevent a malicious attack via the Samsung vulnerability.

As the saying goes, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease," right? I believe if enough of us email Big Sammy about our discrepancy with these locked bootloaders, perhaps we will get some sort of reply? Even if the answer is a no, wouldn't that be better than false hope? I posted the email address in another board yesterday and felt it needed it's own thread. So here goes: [email protected]
I called Samsung four times yesterday, and on the fourth try, successfully got escalated to a level two technical support agent. He, and the other agents I had the pleasure of speaking to, had no information about future updates, bootloaders, or anything pertaining to root. BUT he did say I could email my complaint to Samsungs President. He stated that as a user who typically gains root on his devices, he understood where I was coming from. I asked what phones he has and he replied (paraphrased) "a galaxy S5 international, rooted and an ASUS device, also rooted,". I think Samsung needs to know that they've killed all potential development on a spectacular device and, in turn, have lost loyal customers because of it.

2. I find the buttons on the bottom of the phone are more troublesome than helpful.
3. The pulldown is always opening Google voice When you swipe down
4.phone is always turning on movies or music in my pocket.

I can't say I blame you. I've noticed that a majority of known developers are leaving for the HTC. I may follow suit once my term is up on my S7. So sad to see such a great device collapse into itself like this. Despite its shortcomings, I really enjoy my S7. However, bloatware, the inability to speed up the device and manage other root privileges is seriously ruining my experience.

Question. isn't Android 6.0 to blame for a lot of the new security features ? aren't the locked bootloaders , to secure all the " PAY " features in these new phones ?
just a newbie question ps I hate my HTC M9 and it is also locked on boot lader has S-ON too
I emailed the " sunshine" crew about removing the S=ON so far no one has contacted me, and I gave the same email I use in here.
since I WILL NEVER put my credit card info into the phone , I could care less if after rooting a phone I get some sort of virus that might steal my contacts , who cares .
sure would like to know what you will develop on HTC 6.0 that you can't on a S7 running 6.0 or 6.0.1 Android OS?
thanks for putting up . old **** here

You go to the HTC site to unlock your bootloader (free).
You use PayPal to pay for sunshine unlock, they don't get your credit card number. Sunshine crew is very reputable, they gave me S-off on my M9
Well if everyone has given up on the Qualcomm version of the S7, then there is no need for this thread. I've seen quite a bit of activity in the Exynos variant threads. Has anyone checked to see if tmobile can be run on it? I'd fork out the cash for one if it were a smart move.

Won't be a method until it's released, then I'm certain the devs here will start cracking on it. Give time, the guys here are pretty good at what they do but there's still no guarantee root will be achieved (US models that is).

Root will happen
(If not I'll be suprised)
Look at s7 edge (exynos) if you want to have the approximate method.
Once twrp is released, I bet around the beginning of Mai, you will be able to install it using Odin (breaks knox, s pay, etc)
From there you'll be able to flash whatever you want (magisk, SuperSU, etc)
Edit:
Although I just stumbled over this:
Quote:
Finally, the Exynos 8895 also includes what Samsung is calling an “enhanced security sub-system with a separate security processing unit” for use with user authentication, mobile payments, and the like. Based on Samsung’s description this sounds a heck of a lot like Apple’s Secure Enclave, which would be a very welcome development, as in Apple’s case it has made their phones a lot harder to break into.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/11149/...-8895-soc-10nm
yeah, saw on their website that encryption layers are going to be a lot stronger. I still think it'll be cracked. It's a large enough phone. just might take longer than normal.
Even root on Verizon's locked bootloader?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Yea root not enough for me, also need unlocked bootloader
geez the phones not even out yet. Gotta give the devs time to get there hands on the phone, then time to actually find a way to root it.
Would it be wise to right off the bat unenable automatic downloads of "Security Update: Improves Performance and Battery" in case someone finds a way to Root and they slip in an irreversible Firmware Update?
I bought this phone knowing it's going to be at least a year before at minimum root being achieved
if at all ,so I'm not getting my hopes up at all
This phone might be the straw the breaks the developers backs
I only needed a rooted phone for ARU unchained anyway ,but since the area51 got it to work unrooted
I can afford to wait

I hear you, preference I guess, I just like being up to date. I find that sometimes you are unable to use certain features without the updates.
I have the note 4 myself, and the only update that was a problem with that phone was MM, you could not downgrade from it. I have the AT&T variant so, no root access, and the current temp root that they have listed on the forums is not viable because your only temp rooted on experimental testing firmware.
The main feature you'll be missing out on is Bixby most likely, idk how good it will be or how bad, but you'll be behind that, apparently Bixby is not finished yet, and will not be shipped with the phone, at least not the complete version.

Haha, Buzby (as I call it) is the one INTRUSION I do NOT want!! Never asked for it, just forced upon us. This would be great, but I suspect the Phone already has Bixby embedded into it, what with all the hype (publicity for it) about it not functioning at launch I believe is a marketing ploy to bring attention to it. The part that is not being made available at launch is their end, nothing to do with needing an update for it to work (for those who blindly want it).
See, you watch, they will make such a big deal, like a major announcement when it is made to function and they "switch on their Bixby servers" it'll be posted all over the web like when the Note 7 fiasco (supposedly) happened.
Stop for second. And think. THINK. For yourself. That right there is invaluable advice. Bixby is not your friend.

Bootloader possibly unlocked
So I just called Sprint and reemed them on how there bootloader practices are illegal and that this is an open source phone. Not an Iphone. My device is paid off ect. They supposedly are fully unlocking it as we speak. In the mid of a six hour phase I guess. I was told not to reboot during six hours. On ZVD firmware btw. Open source doesn't mean you have to have an unlocked bootloader. Open source just means you must be provided with a copy of the source code of the open source components (some parts are closed source), which LG has complied by allowing anyone access through this site.
Personally I'd be surprised if it's even technically feasible for them to unlock your bootloader.

Love also how - the variant is rootable and this one is not game. So should I be mad a Sprint or LG? Whos fault is it?Rooting is perfectly legal. Seems blocking it is just as legal in this case.

There is a way to go back, I made a thread detailing the method to restore with a stock aboot image.

It does not have the dual cam, and removable battery like the v20. I have my reasons. Believe me . Only issue is Sprint not being able to root...supposedly. Pro_Granade kinda has my hopes up atm lol

If by now, you haven't received this firmware update from your wireless provider, something is askew and you probably should start looking that. Other than that, if you're not already running on it, you've probably made that choice!
As with all software updates, it's never a bad time to either perform a new backup before commencing with the OTA download, or at least check on what date your showing for the last one (usually, you'll find your handset performs these daily, once every 24 hours). As for me personally, that's my cue to run my backup to my microsd card via the Smartswitch app!
The last friendly reminder I wanted to share witb some of our newcomers that have recently graced us with their presence, is to make certain you're at (or pretty damn close) to 75% charged on your new flagship! The way these new "beasts" we own "bleed-out" our batteries, it's not a bad idea to "up the ante" with the old school rule of having your battery at 50% or more before downloading the update! I saw this same topic mentioned on one of the other forums/channels the other day and thought it was some good advice? Eh, to each his/her own...whatever works for you!

I read Samsung already started rolling out out this update at the beginning of the week(2/15)
to include this handset. I'm TMB and that's a
no-go (so far) and Sprint hasn't rolled it out either.
Anyone with new Intel on this matter, please share as a small monetary contribution will be made available(jk)!

yep, saw that, but you're an Unlocked, Carrier Branded SM-N986U, not SM-N986U1. That's where my confusion came about until I figured it out looking at FOTA!
I know it's no cause for alarm (with samsung, it happens more often than not) but I didn't see a new build # assigned yet for XAA(as if they hadn't started one, but much more likely they just failed to update their system)!
However, for those of you SM-N986U1 users (like myself) seeing this dialog, we could be in for a little longer wait, meaning we may not have Our Update by this coming Monday (3/1), as a few of the websites I saw earlier were speculating!
(We will know more soon, I'm certain)!

**ONE UI 3.1 SOFTWARE UPDATE IS HERE!**
I'm on the unlocked SM-N986U1 connected to Verizon and still no update for me. I thought having an unlocked phone straight from Samsung would put me in line to get the updates first, but I guess not. I was one of the last N20U users to get 3.0, and now the same seems to be the case for 3.1. I saw articles talking about it being pushed out the Note 10's already.

Yeah...what's up with that samsung? You shoot the new update to our traded-in or sold devices first, after we spent more money with you to be last on the update list again?! wtf...
having 986U, T-mobile unlocked from the included app, I already received the update UI 3.1 here in Africa where I am with my job. The SIM card /carrier is Africell.

I have bought two notes from Samsung directly over the years because I was under the impression if I bought the phones straight from Sammy I would get more features and faster updates. But as time goes on I see now that the unlocked phones are second class to Sammy. It seem to me like Sammy can't help but stroke off the carriers and bend to what they want.
Finally got mine today. I am with AT&T

I'm glad to see Samsung always improving their camera function as that is one of their claim-to-fames, one that snagged-me as I've said many times! However, I was sorta expecting to see something thrown in the mix about changes implemented to extend battery life...wasn't just me, right?
Got it today. U1 XAA running on visible.

Yes, Texas and not impressed with it. Much ado about nothing!
