Mate 9 vs Mate 10 Lite vs Honor 7x? - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

First, forgive me if this isnt the correct place to post this question. I am in the market for a new phone. I currently have a 6s+ and it is tapping out. I am with Metro PCS so I buy my phones outright. If money weren't an issue I would do the Mate 10 or Note 8, but it is and so here I am. Please give me opinions on the best phone to get from my list. My biggest concerns would be making sure the camera is on par with what I have and the processor. I think the Mate 9 has a better/faster processor but not sure if it is much difference from the other two. Also I don't see the difference in the Honor 7x and the Mate 10 lite spec wise.
Thanks

as you can see at my profile, i own both models Honor 7 and Mate 9.
I prefer Mate 9 because of the bigger screen and the better battery and performance.
The Mate 9 will get OREO update in the near future!!!
Unfortunately the firmware of Honor 7 is no longer updated!!!
So the fw is affected of the BT & W-Lan security issue.
This can be fixed only if Phone is rooted and running with a custom rom.
At my opinion, the LG G5 (changable battery!)or G6 are also very interesting and inexpensive phones.

It's Honor 7X, not Honor 7. Released december 2017

I would personally look at the oneplus 5t if budget is good

ONEplus3 or Honor 8 ?

Hello i wanted to know who's one is better than one plus 3 and honor 8 i want performances for 3d games photo selfie battery life and video recording i need to keep it for 2 years or i had another idea is to wait that the s7 price goes under 400 euros
what is the best idea for you
thanks
It was a very tough choice for me. I wanted a OnePlus 3 but needed a new phone asap and there was a 3 week delay. I got the honor 8 and have no regrets. The screen size is biggest difference. Also here is a link to a dual sim s7 from a company i trust. I got my honor 8 from them. I went with the honor because i got it for like $250 after all the bonuses factored into the price. Also I got it overnight shipped. I have ZERO regrets and love the phone

For 3d gaming, bigger screen size and video recording I'd say go with the one plus 3.
Thanks fort tout replies i will go for a s7
On gaming, should be head to head for both of these phones. I perfer Honor 8 for HUAWEI brand.

Honor 8 is a good one on camera and I always have good battery life on HUAWEI (I own a Honor 4x). Kirin 950 is powerful enough to run most games.
The only downside you may encounter is that so far Kirin is closed source and you may not receive future system upgrade (like from Android 5.1 to 6, to 7...) if HUAWEI doesn't provide them. For OnePlus 3, developers can work on it and bring you new system upgrades...

Thx but honor 8 will do not have Android 7 emui 5 but here i read that ROM custom are coming soon...
I was making the same decision the other week; in the end I went with the Honor 8 over the OnePlus 3 mainly due to the display. The oneplus 3 has a pentile screen, and based on reviews it's not the greatest screen. Personally, I didn't want to be stuck with a mediocre screen on a phone that I'll be keeping for ~2 yrs.
Plus, I'm hoping to use the Honor 8 to get better at building custom roms; the adventure of trying something new is exciting, versus the relative ease of building for the oneplus 3.

Yup, photo quality is good. It's a responsive phone, it could probably be better with a lighter skin (custom roms!) and some tweaks to the kernel.

Honor 9 vs OnePlus 5

GSMArena side-by-side specifications comparison
I'm posting this thread from the perspective of someone who owns and loves an Honor 8, and is having to evaluate these 2 devices as the primary options for my next phone.
Key differences:
LTE bands: H9 (Europe: 1,3,5,7,8,20) vs OP5 (1,2,3,4,5,7,8,12,17,18,19,20,25,26,28,29,30,38,39,40,41,66)
Body size: H9 (147.3 x 70.9 x 7.5) vs OP5 (154.2 x 74.1 x 7.3)
Screen size: H9 (5.15) vs OP5 (5.5)
Screen type: H9 (IPS) vs OP5 (AMOLED)
Chipset: H9 (Kirin) vs OP5 (Snapdragon)
Cameras: Objective differences are irrelevant for cameras, we'll just have to wait on side-by-side comparison reviews, preliminarily it looks like these may have similar quality.
Storage: Internal (same), MicroSD: H9 (Yes) vs OP5 (No)
Infrared: H9 (Yes) vs OP5 (No)
Key factors:
- The Honor 8 was significantly less expensive than the OnePlus 3T; the Honor 9 is the same price as the OnePlus 5.
- The Honor 8 had a significantly better camera than the OP 3T; the Honor 9 is looking to be similar to the OP 5.
- Price: The Honor 8 was about 25-50% less expensive than the OP 3T; the Honor 9 is the same price as the OP 5.
- No MicroSD slot in the OP 5
It's unfortunate, because I really like my Honor 8, but I don't think the Honor 9 is a good purchase compared to the OnePlus 5. Pretty much all over the internet and social media I have told people to buy an Honor 8 (and instead of a OnePlus 3T) but I don't think I can carry over that recommendation to this generation of phones. If the Honor 9 launches in the US with appropriate LTE bands and at a price 25-30% lower than the OnePlus 5, it will be a close decision on what to buy. But at the current pricing, I think the OnePlus 5 is the clear choice between the two.
Thoughts? What are you all planning to do?
I used to have the Honor 8, but I had to get rid of it because I couldn't stand the software, even after Android 7 update. I was able to simply swipe past the Android Device Manager lost phone screen because it wasn't integrated right with EMUI. There were other issues like bluetooth delayed syncing. The software experience from stock Android is just so much better so I would recommend waiting for the OnePlus 5T in October.
I ended up buying the Note 5 Duos after using the G6, after deciding to not get the S8. All of these four phones (Note5, G6, Honor9, OP5) have the same price and should be considered. It's crazy because I found I tolerate the Samsung UI with Android 7 more than LG, and some of the features like changing to 720p and 1080p resolution are killer features for me.

for me... the microSD killed any chance of me getting a OnePlus 5. in some parts of the world (like where i live), mobile data isn't cheap and fast. doing things "on the cloud" just don't cut it. so, i'd love to have as much storage as possible. also, with camera now able to record at high resolution, it will take up space. i'm not the type that wanna copy out my videos every few days. i can be lazy and do it once every few weeks or so. so, again, storage means a lot to me and having microSD is wonderful.
but... i'm also a AMOLED fan. sadly, i think only time i've seen huawei/ honor with amoled is on the P9Plus. i do hope huawei will look into manufacturing AMOLED screens. having said that, between microSD and AMOLED. i would pick microSD anytime.
one consideration that probably weighs in as important is the size. 5.5" vs 5.2" is quite a big difference.
I've heard very good of OP5, despite I don't like they've increased the price so much. Previous versions were more tight. The starting price of 500€ is not good.
The Honor 9 looks good option, cheaper (449€) and including a sports band. About performance and camera still not sure...
OP5 has 6 GB of RAM and AMOLED display.
Honor 9 has micro SD card support, infrared and is cheaper.
Still considering Xiaomi Mi 6... Which also has infrared, 6 GB of RAM and it's the cheapest of all three.
Thoughts please?

Looks like sports band action is over, there is no more banner on vmall.eu store.
In mean time you still could have 30 EUR cashback until 4 of August. Which brings price of phone to 400 EUR.
I had 3 oneplus 5's within 14 days and all had issues so sold the 3rd and got the honor 9 and couldn't be happier

It's weird, that may be the case for Germany... In Spanish shop you still have the band, nothing about the cashbacks.
Anyway cashback is not common practice in Spain.
I definitely think I'll take this phone.
What about battery? Are speakers good enough?
I've heard that screen is not enough bright. Can you confirm/deny?
Thanks guys for comments. ?

Maybe for the short-term, but not necessarily for the longterm. OnePlus has been a real trend (very attractive) for the past years. They have suddenly increased a lot the price, so lot of people will see it a little bit less interesting.
However Honor is proving to be right on the mid-range price but with good results and feedback from people (from what I've heard/read). I'm quite recent to check about Honor (and probably will buy it this week) but first thing I saw in here is that you have a few ROMs for the Honor 8. It means that we will probably have even more for the Honor 9... and once you have CM or Lineage more will definitely come. :good:

I'd rather have a phone that works properly, development will grow with time let's not forget it's only just been released and didn't even need an update on release and still hasn't as it doesn't need atm everything working as it should 3 updates the op5 had from release and still problems, I lost faith in 1+ after 3 devices all had different issues, and support is lame,

Well, that's case by case, though. Honor 8 certainly has received more love than its litter brother, Honor 6X. Honor 6X's Android N is not coming out soon due to no source yet from HUAWEI for EMUI5.
Huawei is releasing many devices a year, not sure what is their detailed policy...

In my experience many devices per year is not a good strategy... unless you have the muscle of Samsung for instance.
I look to Elephone... awful experiences always (different people), is there is always something that won't work after a short period. And there is no support at all. With every new device, the promise a lot: updates, custom ROMs,... nothing of that has ever happened. Devices are simply forgotten after the launching.
Xiaomi is somehow different, since they keep updating MIUI for their devices even after some long time. My Redmi Note 2 Prime is still getting updates (despite still using Android 5.0.2 as the core).
About OP I've heard mixed reactions. A friend is really happy with the OP5, not a single issue for the time being. For every model people tells me "When I got it, it wasn't working very fine, I was even thinking on selling or returning it, but after the official OTA update, it's a new phone and now it's working amazingly well"... but still they increased the price too much.
For the moment I've received and read very good feedback about Honor. So I'll take the bet! I'm travelling now, so will order just before arriving home next week

mate 9 or OnePlus 3T? (Regardless of the Price)

I know it looks like this question has been asked before, but most of the answers revolve around OnePlus 3T being cheaper. But for some reason they cost the same in my country. so i want to know which one you'd choose if they were the same price.
I would really like to have the bigger screen of Mate 9, but I've heard that Huawei phones are not durable and will have lower performance after a while. is this true? this is a very important factor for me because i wont be able to buy another phone anytime soon, so i'll have to do with it for a time (preferably more than 2 years!).
Thank you ladies an gentlemen in advance for all your wise advice!

Are you kidding me about Huawei durability? Also, lower performance? After a while??? Bro, I don't think you are talking about the Mate 9. https://youtu.be/-x7s_amjJso
The only thing OP3T has over the Mate 9 to me is development (custom ROMs) cos of the Qualcomm SoC, Huawei HiSilicon Kirin 960 is a beast but lacks outside support.
Being a security enthusiast, I want to have things like Kali Linux installed which I unfortunately can't.
Other than this reason, it's a smack down by Mate 9 over OP3T in every department (I don't care about OLED screens, this is just fine).

Thank you my friend. As i said, this is just something I've heard people say, and people who have only had mid-range Huawei phones. I am glad to hear that this is not the case with Mate 9. I'm not too worried about my security, and if the UI is fine (and it seems to be), i have no problem with not being able to install custom ROMs.
Thank you for helping me decide!
I had the OnePlus 3 not the 3t and I made the switch to the mate 9 and I have no regrets. The mate 9 is a super phone. The OnePlus is for ppl who likes to flash roms and I tried them all until I eventually got tired because it's more of the same. I love the battery on the mate 9! It all depends on what the user wants.
I switched from oneplus 3t.
Bigger screen, bigger battery, camera is way better. Custom ROMS? I`m fine with mate 9 rooted debloated stock
No I definetely dont regret about my oneplus 3t
Mate 9 easily. Bigger screen, bigger battery, faster charge, micro SD support. I've had both.
3T IS faster with 6 GB ram ( Comparitively I have 6GB Chinese model rebranded to USA of mate 9) but Battery life on 3T stinks compared to mate 9.
I think Mate 9 is still better than the last Oneplus 5.
Sent from my LG-H990 using Tapatalk
I have had the mate 9 for almost 3 months. I came from a LG G4 and it is a beast. I almost bought an op3t but the battery life and not overheating made me buy this phone. For me that was a must even playing high demanding games it runs cold.
Coming from an OP3, first I wanted to go back to my OP3, but gave the Mate 9 a chance.
After using the M9 for a week I couldn't go back...
Gesendet von meinem MHA-L29 mit Tapatalk
I went from the mate 9 to theOnePlus 3T via the G6 and the GS8. Put it this way: if the mate 9 had wifi calling (Tmobile), I would have never gotten any of the other phones I list. It's that good.
I came to the Mate 9 from the OnePlus 5, and the only thing I miss is the front-facing fingerprint sensor

Honor 9 (EMUI) VS Xaomi Mi6 (MIUI)

Hello mates,
Can you tell me which one is better or which one do you prefer more - Honor 9 EMUI 5.1 or Xiaomi Mi6 MIUI 8.0?
And which one is better Honor or Xiaomi considering stock ROM updates and custom ROMs?
Mi6 is much better in terms of custom roms and development. And games prove to be running smoother on Mi 6 currently. However since huawei is going to add GPU Turbo on Honor 9 so it remains to be seen later...And personally I do think Honor 9 is prettier than Mi 6
Yes, I agree with you Mi6 has much more powerful chipset Snapdragon 835 than Kirin 960, but Honor 9 looks prettier than Mi6 and somehow better build quality.
But what about camera quality and which is better running EMUI or MIUI?
Honor comes with EMUI 5.1, but as I've seen it should be upgraded to EMUI 8.1 with OREO 8.1 in near future.

Currently it is EMUI 8.0 and I don't know whether there will be 8.1.
I think MIUI is better in many aspects (more themes, more interesting functions, etc.)But it depends on your own taste. And Xiaomi has a better reputation in bug fixing and software update (while Huawei don't).Many users hate the low update speed.
About camara, some of my friends complain about Mi 6's poor photos.I am fully satisfied with Honor 9 camara. Its quality is great!
And to say about one of the heating topics,Project Treble, honor 9 bootloops on some treble roms. Also it is known that Huawei phones brick easily. So If you are a flash addict like me I do advise not purchasing Honor 9.(I must be dreaming for I didn't look through the development section before buying)

Quick questions

Hi guys.
I'm planning of buying this phone (I have an Honor 8, great phone, but its very broken so it's time to say goodbye).
I've been watching reviews and stuff for this phone and looks very good but i have some questions.
(Instagram): Does the effects work?
My honor 8 has lag when trying to follow up my face and I think that the Realme and Honor 8 dosen't have that much difference hardware wise. (I'm not that expert)
Is it a good deal changing my Honor 8 to a Realme 5 or should i buy another one? (Budget 200€)
