I downloaded and ran the "Display Tester" app and selected the "Touch pressure test" - it's pretty bad. 60% or so around the edges and 9-100% as you approach the center of the display. Compare this to my galaxy s7 edge where it's 100% on the entire screen.
I returned my first pixel 2 thinking i had a bad display. The replacement is the same
You can also run the "Touch screen test" and see that it takes awhile to get some of the boxes to change from red to green. Completely fluid on my galaxy s7 edge.
Ugh. Anyone else see this?
Tried it and only had a couple that took a second tap. Most of mine were 69-75%

I downloaded the app because I've had an ongoing problem with tapping . I have to tap several times for texts etc. The app gave me an awful time when I did the pressure sensitivity test. I had to tap up to 4 times on some squares. This is a bad thing.

Wow... that's much worse than mine. Mine always registers, just not fully around the edges. Part of me wonders if this is intentionally done to avoid edge taps while you are holding the phone...
Yeah, I get a lot of blue squares when I try tapping or even swiping with my finger. Was wondering what was up since I'm getting far more typos with SwiftKey on this phone than my previous one (OnePlus 5).
One thing is for sure - it's not the squeeze thing to trigger Google Assistant (tried disabling that)

Fwiw I'm also using SwiftKey. Could it be a problem with SwiftKey? It's getting annoying as hell. I bet I had to retap 10X just typing this reply.

Is the XL performing better? I was worried about it given all the negative publicity around the screen. Did you run the screen test on it yet? Would love to hear the results.
I still see some blue squares on the Pixel 2 XL, but have not had any of the typing issues I did on my regular Pixel 2. There's also a screen protector on the XL that might be impacting the results a bit too.
Update- removed my screen protector and with a bit of pressure I can get all green squares in the pressure test on the 2 XL. Couldn't do that across the whole display on the regular Pixel 2 no matter how hard I pressed.

Ok, so I am on my second One X now and both have had more than 1 dead/stuck pixel. You probably have some too and just haven't noticed it yet. The easiest way to check is to set the brightness to max then set the background to full black (you can get dead pixel testers from the market). You will see small bright spots. Look closely and maybe you might have to tilt the phone to slight angles to catch the sub pixels.
One phone I have has 13 bad pixels and the other has 3. Terrible QC.
My second replacement device had a handful of buggy pixels. They would flash on certain backgrounds. Got my third replacement, and it is perfect. I have no intention of painstakingly examining for ones I can't see. If I can't see them I don't want to know about them.
Rabble rabble rabble.
If i have to do all that to notice them then I am not worried about it.

The thing is you will eventually notice them and then by then it might be too late to exchange it. It's not like setting the screen to max brightness and a solid black background is something that will never happen on your device...
I have only one. I can only see it if i look for it hard though at an angle. Not enough for me to go out and replace risking a worse one. But kinda discouraging... Still in my 30 to decide if to keep in general

I have zero. I have ocd about dead pixles and have been checking every other day

I must have got lucky because my One X doesn't seem to have any dead or stuck pixels. I remember my PSP having multiple stuck pixels and that drove me crazy each time I used it because a couple were in the middle of the screen.
my first one had one dead pixel and back light bleed on the bottom, replaced it and my replacement is perfect.

No dead pixels here. Like davis, I had a stuck pixel on my PSP and it drove me nuts (replacement screen i got for 40$ from hong kong so nbd) Theres a tiny scratch in the glass of my Captivate which holds skin oil and refracts different colors like a CRT screen would do. That is by far much more annoying to me.
I got my phone yesterday and didnt notice it then, but now I see a dead pixel right smack in the center of the screen. It only shows on much lighter backgrounds, but my eyes keep gravitating to it. I might have to get it replaced. I hate that because I have my phone completely how I want it set up right now.

exactly what i was thinking
I found one that I can see ONLY when I use a screen test app on black background in the top right corner...going to exchange it. It's free to do so...so why the hell not?
Wow. This thread had me worried, as I've not closely examined my display yet.
I used a dead pixel tester from the market. Set brightness to 100%. The app cycled through several colors, including black and white.
I have 0 dead\stuck pixels. What a relief
No dead pixels for me either!

Dude, I remember buying the original psp on launch from my local bestbuy, bought the extended warranty they offered for up to 2 years and took my psp back to them after a 1.5 years and switched for a brand new one. My problem was 2 dead pixels on the bottom of the screen.
I've got one dead pixel. Either that or it's a piece of dust. Prolly dust since it's grey and doesn't really light up. Luckily it's in the top left corner and I have a grey widget there. You can't really see it.
*looks for it*
Actually... I can't find it today. It was there before, I swear.
Maybe it was actually dust....

Checked the first day. Found none. Not going to be obsessively looking for one at this point. Had a little light bleed at the bottom, but i turned off the backlight on the capacitive buttons. I prefer it that way. Better reading/watching experience in dim environments.
Found one in the upper right corner. Impossible to notice unless I have a dark background present. Added with the fact that the screen is super high res its so small that I could care less.
I'm not going to risk receiving a phone with more problems for 1 dead pixel which I barely notice.

I'm on my 3rd (and final) One X but all three I've had haven't had any dead pixels.
Btw can someone post a picture of what the light bleed looks like? I'd like to know if mine has it but I don't know what to look for. Everything seems ok.
I've just heard about too many people who ended up with a Nexus 5 that has one or more dead/stuck pixels and I'm a bit afraid now. How much do you have?
If you have one, could you please post a picture about it to give me an idea about how it looks like, how much it is noticeable? I've had one on my old Samsung device but it had only 480*800 pixels on 5 inch and it was quite noticeable at dark backgrounds (since it was white).
Anyway, I would appreciate a photo about a dead pixel on a Nexus 5.
Thank you
Zero. Checked multiple times with Display Tester. But I have a very tiny screen bleed. Not noticeable though really unless the brightness is up and it's in a solid dark background.

Seriously, stop trying to find things to worry about with this phone. There's always people that start these threads that blow up and make everyone paranoid about buying great devices.
IF YOU NEED A PROGRAM OR FREAKING MAGNIFYING GLASS TO FIND A DEAD PIXEL, YOU'RE RIDICULOUS.
I have one dead pixel. Kind of wishing I hadn't checked, because now I notice it not worth dealing with an exchange. Can't imagine one pixel will have any impact on my enjoyment of the device.
I used an app that unsticks pixels, after letting it run for about 15 minutes and the pixel's fine now...

This. The pixels are so tiny I still think I need to check another 10 times just in case.
Not only do I have two dead pixels, but I also have what looks like to be a piece of dust in between the glass/digitizer. Haven't had the phone out of the box for more than 5 minutes and noticed. Will be calling Google to replace.
So I've had my Nexus 5 for about 2 weeks and have so far barely used it as I work from home and have a Nexus 7 for my non-traveling needs. I'm fairly certain my Nexus 5 had no stuck/dead pixels though.
So today I noticed what seems like a stuck pixel, but from a bit of googling it's probably best described as a "hot pixel" as it seems to kind of "glow". It's only visible on brighter background, completely invisible when using a black background or turning off the screen.

I've tried using the "Dead Pixel Detect and Fix" app to no avail.
Is there anything else I can try or should I file for an RMA?
Thanks
Someone, please?

Hey guys, my son plays a Batman Lego Movie game and it's similar to Subway Surfer. He was telling me last night the screen is not very sensitive compared to his S8. Has anyone encountered anything the same? I don't play too many games but I wonder if this is something on all of the PH1s or just mine.

oh... I'm not liking this. I'm not a gamer, but I like my phones to be responsive. I swear my Nexus 6P sometimes picks up the heat of my finger before I actually touch. That is sensitive!
Reporting same issue of having to tap things twice to register.
Agree similar issues here but some fanboy is going to come and say we all are just making this up to make look essential bad. When so many people are complaining that basic stuff isn't working properly you know this company wasn't ready software wise for the launch. Looks like they wanted to rush it out before the fall launch of major phones.
Considering that is an adjustable setting in some way (Since some other devices have a "Glove mode" and whatnot) I wonder if this can be adjusted in software easy enough in an update or given to us as an option. (Or heck, get root, make changes. )
Also, remember the phone does have a lot of rejection detection built in mainly because you will be touching the edges much easier on the device than you would most others. This for sure can cause sensitivity problems but just to check, how does the phone do one handed without anything near the edge of the screen?
It's just a thought but I notice this with other devices (my U11 even has this issue and I do dislike it vs my 6P and G3 even).

Good point in the edge thing, that is where I notice it most like top corner 3 dot.

I am finding screen sensitivity issues as well. I don't see any scrolling issues though. Just seems like I have to touch things a couple times. Especially the keyboard when typing
I'm fortunate in that I'm not having any sensitivity issues, or scrolling issues.
Some apps do seem to have issues with the what would seem to be a screen resolution issue (textra for example) where the inputs are off by a few pixels. Maybe this is what y'all are experiencing?
This is my second day with the phone, it's definitely smoother than day one. I'm guessing the OS was optimizing.

Same here no issues with that.
I need TWRP to restore all my data.
I need TWRP and root to get rid of all the stinking ads everywhere.

It's definitely this, I can't reorder stats in the fitbit app. I tried plugging in a USB mouse and it still didn't work so it's not the touch.
I haven't noticed any issues with having to tap the screen twice, however I have noticed while typing the haptic feedback sometimes seems like it misses a letter or two. The action registers and the letter appears but i get no vibration for some reason. It's been pretty sporadic. Maybe an AOSP but since we're so close to stock?

Yeah, I didn't think so. Thanks for the confirmation. Also no double tap for the screen off (can set an on gesture, but it interferes with the fingerprint then) unless you use Nova launcher or such to fake it.
After playing with it for a few hours, it's going back. It doesn't play nice with Nova launcher shortcuts. The fingerprint button feature sucks... I really hate using the power button. The Google launchers at a glance feature is somewhere between gimped and flat out busted. (AND you can't even remove it).
I guess I just miss all of the features I got with the g5+. I can't mimic what I had with any complete success. The camera is subpar, yeah. But I'll find something closer to my taste eventually. I might wait for the LG g7, which will at least have double tap for the screen. Also likely an OLED display. I do my own stock Nova thing to any photos i get anyway.

I didn't even really look at the Pixel launcher. Went straight to Nova Launcher as I have for every phone for a couple years. There is little that you can't do with it, including Google Now (which I didn't particularly like). That plus an app drawer manager which gives me a lot more folder management than plain Oreo does (Jina App Drawers).
This for me has been one of the best phones I've ever touched. Fast, smooth good display, easy to use and comfortable.
BTW, I don't use tap for turning the screen on, I looked at it, but have never used it before.
Yeah, the lack of customize-able features on the Pixel is what makes me hesitant to upgrade from my Honor 8. It's the first phone I've been able to use without rooting due to all the stock customization that is built in. I'm not sure these mostly under the hood android updates and slightly better camera are enough to overcome the daily disappointment of bone stock android.
I didn't like not being able to knock off for screen off either, so I downloaded an app called custom navbar buttons. with this app, i'm able to swap the back button to the right (where it should be, damnit!) and then put a small power button on the right next to it that can shut the screen off anywhere. love it.

Fingerprint Swipes lets you set swipe actions including lockscreen. I can't post the link, but it is in the Play Store by that name.
