Tizen 3.0 battery drain suddenly stopped for me! - Samsung Gear S3

Like many, (most?), I got severe battery drain from the Tizen 3.0 update. I did the factory reset that was recommended, but it didn't help, still losing 75-80% during one days use. But this morning, after charging overnight, I power cycled (held power down until it rebooted), and put it back on the charger. It said 100%, but the light was red, so I left it on, probably another half hour, and the light turned green.
Today, I'm back to pre-update battery use! 7am-8pm, and I'm only down 25%. So I should be back to at least 2 day, if not 3 days of use . Hope that helps someone!

I'm going to try this now, and will report back. My battery usage seems to be getting worse, not better.

It's been 5 days later, and I've noticed significant improvements. I've have the watch off the charger with typical use and I'm at 56%. I've been getting 2 days usage before needing to recharge. AOD is off.

When you charge it, do you leave it on or off?

I have tried all means. Reset, change when off, change when on, but my gear 3 won't charge pass 94%. After 90%, it begins to decline very fast..

Battery draining while sleeping? Try this!

This works in VegaN - YMMV...
Settings -> Wireless settings -> then hit the menu button, and choose "Advanced", then select "WiFi Sleep policy" (It was set to NEVER!)
Spare parts showed (via 'Spare Parts' app) that the WiFi was on 100% of the time - even while sleeping..
I'll give this a try tonight when I go to sleep.
I like to leave it at "never" so that there is no delay upon wake up to connect to wifi. With the table in use (vs. sleeping) the battery life is so long; almost 10 hours, I don't worry about a little battery drain while sleeping. Just connect it to the charger once a day or less.

You get a 'little' battery drain while sleeping? If I leave my gtab unplugged overnight, it loses about 4% per hour.. or about 30% overnight. That's why I'm trying different things. 30% overnight isn't a little to me -- it's way too much.
A tablet like this should all but go into a state of suspended animation while sleeping...
30%, really? That sounds as if there's something else going on rather than just wifi draining.
Edit- Some thoughts. There are some apps that require permission to update or snag some ads from the net and operate on their own.
Go take a look at what you have installed and look at your screen timeout settings.
If you have CWM and can get to recovery, wipe battery settings and then reboot/charge. Some people drain completely then charge to get to 100%. Some threads seem to show this is a Vegan issue. (Mine gets to 97 tops but as long as battery life is not affected, I'm good)

Just curios, why would you leave it on all night when it will never be used? it only takes a minute to boot in the morning when you turn it on.

I leave it in sleep mode because its my alarm clock. I also now leave it plugged in.
I've tried draining the battery then resetting stats in clockwork. If tried about every variation of doing that I can think of short of waiving a dead chicken over it.

I've left mine on and unplugged(it went to sleep) for 3 or 4 days and come back with battery still. 30% overnight seems odd.

I think you might be right, because I used Cyanogen Mod for a month and a half and had no issue like this. Now I am using TNT Lite 4.2.4 and I am still having no battery life issue.
Also I have never been not able to charge my Tab to 100%. So I may suggest that you guys try switching to cyanogen mod or tnt lite.

Strange battery

The last couple of days I've noticed something strange with my battery. I keep it on the charger all night and when I get up in the morning my phone says the battery is at 100% and the charge LED is green. The instant I pull my phone off the charger it drops a couple percent. I thought that was strange so this morning instead of pulling the phone off I just shut it down. Once the phone was completely off the LED went from Green to Orange as if it was charging again. It look another 20 minutes to turn green again. I powered the phone up and as soon as sense is loaded I am back to 93% battery.
Anyone else see this? I've wiped battery stats and did the whole calibration but that didn't seem to fix the issue.
That is normal... Once the batt hits 100%, the charger goes off and lets it drop to 95% or so and starts charging again. It does this to protect the battery. Also when you turn off, it will restart the charge.
The battery is lying, but that's not such a bad thing.

My battery has been acting up the last few days as well. As in, going from a full charge to ~35% in 3 hours and then down to ~12% an hour later. No new apps added, nothing out of the ordinary done. Regular uses and charging cycle. I normally reset my battery stats when I flash a new incarnation of a new ROM, but after a couple of days everything seems to be back to normal.
I've been baffled by this, but have yet to find the culprit. An app or searching for signal are my only thoughts.

[Q] Odd battery life situation

I've always been reasonably happy with my battery life. If I use it heavily it goes down. If I don't it can stay charged for a couple of days. Within the last week or so that has dramatically changed. All of a sudden it barely makes it through the night from a full charge to 10% or so. It also "seems" that normal use drains it at least twice as fast. Anecdotal but I know something is wrong or different.
I haven't made any changes to my phone for months. I'm running existz kernal for 2.2 and that is the only customization. I did get a bunch of app updates but that always happens. The battery use screen shows the batter is being used for display but over night, it doesn't/shouldn't display much.
Thoughts on how to find what the heck is going on would be appreciated.

What I would do if I were you is charge to 100%, recalibrate, and take the battery out for about 15 minutes before you put it back in and turn your phone on. I dunno.why this procedure worked for me but that's just a suggestion if you don't wanna flash to stock and back to whatever you're using.
Uninstall updates, then add them back, one at a time.

I notice dramatically different battery life when I use this procedure to charge my phone known as a bump charge.
1) charge to 100% or as close as your phone will get while it is on.
2) Disconnect charger
3)Turn off phone
4)Re-Connect charger while phone is off
5) Wait until the phone says 100% charged while it is off. You can check the charge by using the volume buttons if the screen is asleep.
6) Unplug charger. (This is important. If you boot your phone with your charger plugged in it can give you inaccurate battery information.)
7) Boot up the phone.
That is really odd but mine has started doing the exact same thing. I have never had battery issues and for the first time today my phone was completely dead within 6 hours, and the past week it seems to hardly make it 12 hours.
I was just assuming it was the launcher I was using but I removed it and it never helped whatsoever.

I would agree with you on that but... I really have no idea what all got updated and don't know how to find out. the perils of auto-update I suppose.

I'll give that a try... it made it through last night in pretty good shape though. Confused I am.
Not sure if this helps or not, but here is my experience.
I have two wireless routers in my house. One I keep locked to N-only and the other to G-Only. The N router I have suspected for some time has a weak or flaky radio because I can watch the signal strength fluctuate wildly over a period of 10 seconds or so. I noticed a while back that when my phone is connected to the N router it will kill itself pretty much overnight. When I disable that connection and let it connect to the G router it only loses a couple % over an 8 hour period.
I don't know if it is due to being connected to N, or if my suspected flaky router is causing it to use more power staying locked onto the signal or something of that sort.

poor battery life?

Hi,
I received my gear S2 classic yesterday but I don't seem to be getting the battery life of 2 days. I took it off charge this morning at 11:30 am and it's now 12 noon and it's down to 89%. Is this normal? I've turned off the auto heart rate monitor and NFC and Wifi. It's constantly connected to my note 4 and the brightness is set to 5.
I've had a fair few notifications and haven't really used apps on it today so far but seems to be draining quicker than what I was expecting, just wondering if this is normal or not? I understand it's a small battery but when it's supposed to get 2 days and it doesn't seem like I'd get one day out of it if I was to take it off charge early in the morning like at 8 AM for example.
In 30 min it drained 11%? Seems like a lot. Restart it perhaps? I have wifi off, s voie off, and screen brightness set to 5 as well and it lasts 2+ days. I'd give a couple more days, if it doesn't improve then I would exchange it.

Think it's okay (ish) been off charge now for about 11 and a half hours and it's at 46% though this still is only barely a day of battery life not 2. Should be able to live with it though I normally put my phone on charge at night when I go bed anyway regardless of the charge I have left and I do the same with the S2. Speaking of phone is there anything I can do with it's battery life? Having bluetooth on 24/7 really takes a hit on my battery life on my note 4. Is there anyway I could put it into some kinda low powered bluetooth mode so maybe it's not quite as fast but still some kind of connection?

I had pretty bad battery life with watch connected too. It turned out it was a misbehaving app with bluetooth, GasBuddy in mycase. Uninstalled it and battery life went back to normal. I suspect something similar may be happening in your case.

+1 for the misbehaving app as the likely cause. For comparison: My Classic goes on at 9am and off around 9pm with about 60% left, consistently. Connected with bt...Wifi off and max brightness all day.

How did you determine the app causing issues? Do you have the clock always on or gestures on? it seems i am draining awfull fast too. Took off charger at 7am and now at 10 i am at 85% is this normal?

That drain seems a little fast to me but not too bad compared to the experience of others posted here.
Usually you'll notice the drain soon after installing troublesome apps, so the offender is likely one of the last few you installed. To fix this I just uninstall the last few apps I downloaded and test from there. If the battery issue is still not resolved after a while of usage, then I uninstall the ones before it. I don't know of any other way to test on the Gear S2 like we do on android phones (e.g. with bbs, wakelock detector, etc.).
The battery life I mentioned for my Classic is with gesture mide turned on, and always-on mode turned off.

Battery problems after s3 update

Hi, I installed the S3 update over the air to my Korean S2 a couple of days ago. Everything seems fine except for issues with the battery. I Can take the watch of the charger after an overnight charge and wear it all day, powering it off before i go to bed in the evening. When i shut it down the charge can be over 50% but when i power it back on in the morning the charge is just over 10%. If i leave it powered on but not on charge the percentage will increase over the next couple of hours back to just under 50%. The problem is i can never be sure what the true state of charge is, so i am unsure whether it will last the day.
Anyone else having this issue or know how to fix it?
I have problem with battery. Battery is discharging really fast.
That's weird. My battery life seems pretty good. My watch has been off the charger for 5 hrs and I'm still at 94%
Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk
Yeah, it looks like that first 2-3 charging cycles were not good, but today I have really good battery life. ... So my problem is solved.
On the old firmware I could wear it 16 hours and put it back on the charger with over 60% left. Since the update I am down to 20% in four hours. I've done 2 hard and one soft reset to no avail. The battery thing on the phone app says its my watchface and I should use a dark one but I am. This, frankly, is a show stopper. I can't recharge 2 or 3 times a day. Any idea how to reinstall the R734XXU2DPG1 firmware? That worked.
Apparently a couple of recharges fixes the battery issue. Don't know why but it does. So far at least.
Hi
I just updated my gear s2 classic yesterday with the new ota, my battery doesn't even last for 2 hours now, before it gave me 1_1.5 days. In battery usage it shows 22% usage by contacts and 19% watchface even though I'm using the stock with no customization and even the background is same as default for menus.
I've denied the permission for gear plug in for contacts even then the drain is too fast.
How can we fix this, any ideas.
