I am about to get a replacement Captivate from AT&T. What is the best way to transfer my apps, data and files to the new phone if both are stock firmware?
with thanks
Use back up apps like My Backup Root and of course Titanium Backup is a must have...then move all of that data off of your phone to your PC.
When you get your new phone transfer the data folders back to their original spot on the phone from your PC and install the same apps you backed up with from the market and start restoring.
Restore app data but not system data.
Is there anyway to do this without rooting?
The best/easiest way is to root.
It can be done w/o but more work involved and it takes longer (think manually reinstalling each backed up app one at a time from the market).
No root required - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackup&feature=search_result
Wit that said, it's fairly easy to unroot or return to stock so it can be turned in to at&t.

Hi all
I'm new here and the thread title may be misleading but I wasn't sure how to word it correctly so apologies in advance.
I have been given a Galaxy S by a friend who has replaced it with an iphone.
I would like to download stuff using Android Market. I keep getting asked for a Google sign in for the previous owners account.
I thought ok I will go to settings and remove the account after setting up my own.
When I go to remove the account it says that the account is required by some applications and that I need to reset to factory defaults.
I realise doing this will result in losing all data and I will need to reload everything. Can I do a backup somehow and copy my contacts etc back to the phone?
Is this reset going to allow me to set the phone up the way I want it and allow me to use Android market.
Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Haha.. thanks for the suggestions. I'm so new here I have yet to find out how to do the thanks thing but I guess I will figure that out shortly.
I will have to do some searching because all the terminology is new to me as well.
Where I come from, New Zealand, if something is rooted we usually mean it is broken or not useable lol.
Ok, so this is going to be a new learning experience for me and I think I will enjoy this Board.
I forgot to add, this phone has been unlocked.

Do you have a back up copy of your system?
my opinion is flash stock rom it is not riskfull than you flash rom
Hi everyone.
Well, basically I'm here because Pokémon GO is now unable to run if the OS is rooted, so I'm going to get rid of the root. However, I don't want to revert all the things that I've got like the deleting of all that annoying bloatware that came along the first time, and for and for all that I need to know what to exclude from the firmware when I do proceed from flash mode in Flashtool. I suppose that system.sin is the directory where all that crap is stored but I'm not really sure. Would you be kind to explain me?
Thank you so much. :laugh::victory:
Since no one answered I will try. Instead of changing .ftf file and trying to do something where you don't have expirience, why don't you simply unroot your phone? Delete all apps that need root to work (Xposed, root explored...) and if I remember well there is option in SuperSU to unroot phone. I would suggest you to use Magisk, but I think it is for 5.0+ because Pokemon GO use same safety system as AndroidPay use.
P.S. Before you do anything, make a backup.
With Android Marshmallow, after using a System Optimser app, my Notification and Ringtone Folders have been deleted. So this means i cant add my own notifications or ringtones (it just doesnt seem to work).
Is there any way to Restore these Folders without doing a Factory Reset (didnt want to have to restore everything on my phone after that) and without needing to Root the phone and also without being forced to have to use an app like Zedge forever, for new ringtones i want, instead of the Stock Samsung Folders?
Any help would be very welcome. Thanks
Hi !
Without root you can`t push any files into the system .
I can suggest you to flash the stock firmware in order to get you`re system working again if that application that you used can`t restore it by itself
And also , for more help , please provide the device model you have issues
Good luck !
