You in the beta program for the Google app by chance? I'm having the same issue as of the last beta update. Not sure if its an app bug or a bad interaction with DP2 (which I am also using). No fix I've found except to leave the program and uninstall the beta :/
If anyone else is experiencing this issue on 8.0 with Google App beta, could you chime in? Curious if this is an OS issue or an app issue...

New Hangouts App

I've updated to the new Hangouts app (via the apk from Android Police) and have noticed a bug. It always vibrates even though I have that box (in the SMS settings) unchecked. I have cleared the app data and also reinstalled the app. Any one else having this issue?

Google just started to roll out the update today so it hasn't hit my phone yet. I got the official apk from Android Police. I have created the same error on 2 N5's so far. I also have reported the bug to Google
I'm having the same problem on stock lollipop and Hangouts updated to 2.5.81xxxxx through the play store. Previous version had no such issue.

Android System WebViewer update is a huge TURD causes apps to crash

All,
I have read and experienced force closes when updating to this latest version 42.0.2311.129.
I have experienced force closes without error messages for a few apps after the update. Uninstalling and re-installing does not resolve the issue!
After reading some others who experience this as well I advise you all not to update this TURD !
After I uninstalled this update all my apps started working correctly again.
Its nothing more that Chrome without the shell.
Does anyone know if this can be permanently removed ?
Thanks in Advance
Update 4/25/2015 - as per suggested below you can use TB to freeze this nugget as so it wont update.
Update 4/30/2015 - You can get the latest release of this app here:

Thanks for the tip and the guys over on Fluent. Just froze it it TiBU. Went to Play and is was locked and loaded to update.
I wasn't having issues until the latest update a couple days ago. Now I've noticed my reddit client crops out all the time and several other apps close without error
Ahhh.. so is this fricking thing the reason most of my apps are closing lately??
I was just about to post seeing if anyone else has recently had problems with a lot of apps (Kik not letting keyboard open, tweetcaster, ES file explorer, my MZW app, and a couple others all just force closing right after I select them).
So is it this thing causing this? I have never seen this app until recently, maybe after the 5.0 update. Anyone getting solutions to work, this is very, very frustrating!! Just started about a week or so ago. What does this app even do?

Yes, I had issues with KIK, but clearing the cache seemed to do the trick with launching the keyboard. Cant say other than my experience.
My FitnessPal opened then closed. I tried uninstalling it, and re-installing it, to no avail. Only after I uninstalled that abomination did the app start to work correct. I cant say how many apps this thing is crashing, but after seeing the similar negative reviews on the playstore, I am convinced this is not limited to M8.
There are some fanboys of Google of this app raving about how it changed their life and they are not single b/c of it anymore, others saying its your phone, and to wipe you phone but you DO NOT have to wipe or reset your phone, just roll back the app should be good enough, if you are rooted use TB to freeze it.
I have not tried to remove it completely yet which is what i want to do eventually.
yeah.. I think it's a running joke type of thing to leave over the top, ridiculous silly comments about it on the play store. Do not know where or why that started but it detracts from the reality that this thing sucks! I unistalled the update, froze it with TI backup, restarted the phone and all my apps that were affected by (Tweetcaster, ES file explorer, my VZW, and probably others but those are the main ones I know of for sure) now work 100 %. It was definitely this app that was affecting them for some reason.
As far as Kik goes, not sure, I deleted the app, re-installed it, cleared everything, tried different keyboards, and nothing seems to fix the keyboard not popping up. If I click the + sign like to add an attachment, then back, it brings the keyboard up no problem. Hopefully an update to that app will fix it soon.
Here is a flashable.zip of the latest working version before this latest atrocity, in-case anyone needs it.
I couldn't even type in the stock HTC messaging.apk along with many other apps not working, with the new update. Once re-storing to this older version all my apps and everything is back to normal.
Google is much better than this.
I really don't understand how people can leave a comment in PlayStore saying this update is anything but horrible.

Its good to know this thing is getting pushed so quickly
These crashes have been driving me nuts. What I'm confused about is that all of the apkmirror webview updates say they are for Lollipop API 21... I'm having identical issues on 4.4.4 CleanROM. When I first found people saying it was a webview issue I looked through system apps and there is no webview to be found so now I'm at a loss on how to fix it

Google Assistant Disabled

Google Assistant on my Nokia 6.1 suddenly disabled, I use it on a daily basis to make phone calls and all. It was working fine till the evening but later at night I just found it broken while trying to unlock my device with voice commands. And I did not make any changes to settings or installed any apps and the app is also up to date, so I am totally clueless about what just happened to it. And it is a very handy feature for my day to day use so kind of disappointed. I have searched through web and YouTube yet couldn't find any working solution for me. I have attached two screenshots that might help you understand the problem. Also the setup wizard is on loop asking to setup voice module again and again uninstalling updates/clearing data/cache didn't help either. So I am just out of options here. Any information on this issue would be helpful.
Same on my phone and also on my Lenovo Tab4, maybe the Google app is fu*ked, what version do you have? My is 8.15.9.21
Sent from my Lenovo TB-8704F using XDA Labs
Mine is version 8.13.15.21 and it just happened all of a sudden. And there's no update available at the playstore.

I'm a beta tester of the Google app, but if you have that issue on the stable version, then it is weird. I don't use Assistant so much, so I don't know when it stopped working.
If you need it, you can try to delete data for the Google app, and see if it works.
I will wait for the next version...
Edit: I also asked in G+ community, and I received this comment:
Yes many users having different devices are facing this issue dont worry google has acknowledge this issue and it will be in next update

Yeah I also opted in beta to check if something works but no gain also tried installing another version newer than mine (8.14.15.21) from apkmirror again no success. And if I activate it by long pressing the home button it will give me the welcome screen everytime, seems the app is on a loop!

Question Google cam force closing and rebooting

Ever since I received pixel 6A, I have been experiencing this issue which I believe is well known to prior releases in this series.
The moment I open Google cam downloaded from play store and not installed from gcam port repos, it force closes and immediately reboots my device.
Are there any workarounds other than using another app for this?
Google camera is a system app built in, why would you need to download it from the store?
Try to factory flash or just replace from Google

I didn't separately download it from the Google Play store, but it did update itself.
Also the reason I specifically mentioned it being sourced from play store is to let experts know that I am not using any gcam ports or custom modified version of Google camera app.

Interesting....cant say Ive ever seen that happen.
@nikha I too faced the same issue when I got my P6a. It was on Android 12 and I updated all the apps including camera from Playstore. Suddenly it would freeze for a second and the phone would reboot whenever I opened the camera app.
Fix - I cleared the data of the camera app and updated to Android 13 and did factory reset. The issue has not occurred again. So far, no issues.

If that's the case, I would return it. That sounds hardware related if it's happening with vanilla no apps installed that might interfere android.

Cannot open Settings - Settings has stopped unexpectedly (U11+ not U12+)

Hello,
Please help! I have a HTC U11+ with Android 9. For some reason I cannot open the settings app or by tapping the gear icon. I have performed a factory reset by using the power + up during boot but it's not made a difference.
I have noticed if I uninstall Google or updates it starts working again. I don't know if this is an issue with a recent update but it's causing some big issues. Can anyone offer any advice how to resolve the issue or some alternative?
Kindest regards,
Nick
Hi Nick, I have the exact same issue on HTC U12+
I tried booting in safe mode, but also that didn't make a difference.
Uninstalling google also fixes the issue for me, I think I'll report it to google. It's highly doubtful we can get any support from HTC. I just want to hang in there till the pixel 8 is released, didn't think HTC would throw us this curveball
edit: looks like the google app is getting a lot of 1 star reviews recently. For some people the app itself stopped working completely. Interesting. Perhaps we can also just install a "good" version by downloading a verified APK. Then you can disable individual update for the google app. Not ideal though, but a worst case scenario fix maybe. At least we won't be stuck with the 2019-ish version of google that way
I, too, had the same issues where the Settings app (and alll related functions) would crash. After about an hour of freaking out (I was at Disneyland when I discovered this and had no access to tools or a computer), I figured out it was the stupid Google app that caused the issue... just like what was already reported above.
After trial and error, the last "good" version of the Google app that still worked is 14.15.25.28.arm64. You can grab this from APK Mirror.
Thank you for your replies.
Sounds like it's an issue with the latest Google app update which I think is 14.17. Installed 14.15 as per your suggestion and that seems to work fine. Thanks again.
This mproblem now seems to have resolved itself, not sure if Google or htc fixed it but works fine now without needing to uninstall Google Updates
Thanks for the reply. Yes, mines also been resolved since the Google app version is now 14.17.34.28. Don't think HTC are doing any kind of support/updates nowadays
