Oreo on mate 9 without unlocking bootloader? Or a good method to fix all - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Hi,i'm new on huawei. I need help to test the upgrade Oreo on a Mate 9. But i read that method needs Unlock bootloader actually or pay a lot funkyhuawei for credits. And other thread doesn't seems very simple to understand. The mate 9 in question is c432 european variant. I need this upgrade because on the latest upgrades:battery is horrible for 4000 mah (needs 2 charge on a day often ), sometimes phone remains with black screen and doesn't start (it needs forced reset), ui crash sometimes crash randomly, speakerphone sometimes breaks mic (and sometimes not), bluetooth sometimes on car doesn't work on mediaplayer and notifications sometimes arrive a lot later (i disable autoclose for all apps) . I tried a reset from recovery but it doesn't change a thing. What should i do? Oreo can fix those things? Because is a shame that a high end(and overvalueted in my opinion) phone have this horrible problems. Thank you and sorry for noob questions.

I'm not sure if Oreo will fix all your problems, but only way to install it is: apply to beta and get in (not sure if it's still open), use HWOTA which requires bootloader unlocked or funkyhuawei. Those are your options, or wait for release of course.

I try some weeks ago on beta ,but they cancelled the subscribe after almost 3 weeks who i send the request. This is really sad. Funky huawei doesn't need unlock bootloader ?but i read that you must pay to do something(and it is a shame..fw upgrade with money?it is android?)A hint to solve problems? It isn't mine(but of my GF) but i try everything .Sometimes phone, when it recieve calls doesn't ring or ring only last 5 seconds. All of those problems are a shame for a high end phone with high price.

Oreo will not help with your issues.
Try another factory reset, DON'T install any apps and see if it keeps happening. If it does, send your Mate to a repair centre. Might be a defective device (rare, but happens).

Oh well. I must try it by myself, but I think is almost impossible because it is of my gf and I must convince her to try to do a little change to try it. Thanks for reply I wait another answer. I try 4 resets. But same problems.

i use a new C432 (B197) No sync; no W-Lan; 2G; no BT; No NFC; 130 apk’s installed and have 0.2%/h battery drain- = ~5%/24! This is only 30% of my older LG G5.
If it is not possible to solve this problem with a factory reset, return it to the store you have buy it. If this is not possible, everything else will have a high risk to get a paper weight!
(After my own experiences, i would try to flash the full stock rom image xx29c432b198. But i can not recommand this way to somebody else, if he do non know more about this procedure)

You can download the beta oreo for your mate 9 from the following website:
http://pro-teammt.ru/firmware-database/?firmware_model=MHA-L29&firmware_page=0
Extract the update.app from the zip file. Create a folder "dload" on your sdcard. Turn off the phone and press power+volume up+volume down at the same time for the software to be updated even with locked bootloader. I do not think your phone's problem will be solved just by the software update. However you can always try to update your phone to oreo.

No you can't. dload only works with "offline" firmware (https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/development/rom-service-roms-t3693545).

Did you buy it new ? How old is it ? is it for your region ? Why have you not contacted Huawei ?

OTA update to Andriod 2.3.5 bug

Hi guys,
It seems that after receiving the new OTA update I ran into some issues.
My problem is that after installing the update my phone started to occasionally refuse to unlock the screen after pressing the power button.
If I connect the charger the screen unlocks but otherwise I have no option to unlock it.
I did a Factory restore (of course I lost every bit of apps I had installed - even tough I had the Backup settings activated-) and it seems that I'm seeing the same problem a few times a day.
Has anyone encountered this issue?
The phone is bought from Vodafone and original software installed.
Haven't rooted or S-off it.
Thanks
if ur phone is s-on and have same issue like s-off phones thats actually good news..seems that HTC messed up something...maybe is good advice for u to give phone to repair service if is s-on and see what thay can say about that.
I actually had that bug BEFORE the update, but not after. Instead of that, HTC Locations stopped working after the update and still is refusing to start even after factory resets and reinstall.
I have tried to contact HTC through their website to ask wheter something can be done about the issue, but the "Email Us" form doesn't seem to be sending anything after pressing submit and the "Chat with Us" form just shows blank white... I tried them on IE, FF and on my phone but they all show the same kind of behaviour.
It's really beginning to get irritating...
Clearly a software issue if it really happened after the OTA.
Wiping your Cache, Dalvik-cache partitions along with your Data (Factory Reset) should be able to refresh your phone as a "brand-new" one. That is if you can.
Stock recovery has an option to wipe Data and Cache.
If these still doesn't work, shove it to HTC's arses.,
Just kidding..
Send it for repair or maybe show it first to them.
some more bug.
-> live wallpaper sometime hang.
Starting yesterday I disabled the new feature "Trace keyboard" and since then the phone unlocked everytime.
Has anyone else kept this option activated and working ok?
2.3.5 OTA suxxxxs
Hi All,
I got OTA 2.3.5 Sense 3.0 on last Friday.
Since I have the screen problem = after a call sometimes I cannot unlock the screen with power button. If connect to the charger it's unlock and after the
power button works again. My phone is S-ON, fully original.
And I have 2 friends, they have Desire S and got this update too,
and after it the problem appear on their phones too.
So I think something wrong with new OTA update.
And I also notice the TTS Service, don't work too, it's always
halted.
(I made a factory reset and my friends too, but we have this problem too)
Any idea?
Everybody "got" this bug with OTA?
Bye,
Istvan from Hungary.
Wait for fix from HTC. They messed up something.
~Swaypovano sa Desire S BRE!~
I was finally able to get in touch with HTC regarding the Locations bug. The service agent said that he has never heard of such a problem before. His advice was that I should try the factory reset once more without the SIM card and without logging in to my Google account. I did that but the Locations still won't work. Only advice after this was to send my phone in for service... I'm really not happy with sending it in just to get an app (that was broken by their own update) to work again. I'm also pretty sure there was something wrong with the update to begin with considering all the new bugs being surfaced all the time.
This is really frustrating...
Would the people that have updated please tell wheter their Locations works perfectly? And if so, where are you from?

Try to disable the "Trace keyboard" feature. I did that and it seems that for the last ~18 hours I didn't encountered the unlock bug once.
Trace keyboard...
My "Trace keyboard" was off and the problem also present.
I tried to switch on, it hasn't any effect to the problem.
I hope the HTC will soon cede to this OTA full with bugs...
But as I known them, they not soo fast.....
Since the OTA update my Desire S crashes about once a day, and after it reboots it tells me it has recoverd from an error and asks me if i want to send the report to HTC. Seeing as how it reboots without any problems, and it works perfectly except the crash once a day, i suspect it has something to do with the flashing to 2.3.5.
Should i try a factory reset, or could there be another solution (seeing as how i really want to avoid a factory reset).
Oh and I have not rooted or S-OFF'ed my DS before the OTA update, so it's totally stock (as it has been since I got it)
I was able to fix the bug with Locations not starting up by changing my phone's language to English, then starting Locations, then changing the language back to Finnish again and voilá, it worked. One less problem for me.
I think that the Locations bug is limited to Nordic language versions (or even only to Finnish versions).
Hello
After update i have also the issue with the screen impossible to re-activate by power button after call is ended.
howto reproduce the issue: it happens only when screen is locked by security lock (PIN) and I receive a call. I pick up the call, screen is automatically turned off during call. After the call is finished, I'm unable to get the screen active again by pressing the power button!
Only working workaround is to attach phone to charger or connect to USB. Then the screen is activated and I can unlock it by PIN and working normally...
I need to have security lock enabled to be able to sync corporate email ( this is the security policy enforced by corporate Exchange server).

This new OTA update looks more like a beta testing for many users still haven't got it and those who got it are complaining about bugs.
Some are affected by power button bug and others experience difficulties unlocking their phones.
What makes the situation even more strange is HTC not announcing the update.

I'm sure you're right. HTC must have got a whole load of their people committed on new phones, others working on the recent security issues, so updates to our DS must be fairly low-priority. It smacks of the way that Microsoft beta-tested new OSes (perhaps still do) - Deploy many different public beta versions, don't bother actually reading the feedback but just simply measure how many complaints come in on each version. Finally, make official the version that got the fewest complaints.
I wouldn't be surprised if it goes quiet again for a week or so now.
The reply from HTC regarding the power bug:
Thank you very much for your cooperation and please be informed that we will get into this issue and we will try to determine what could cause these problems and what can be the solution. Please be patient with us because the investigation process itself it may take between 2 weeks and 4 weeks.
Have a nice day!
Disappointing
Hello,
After investigating further on my issue about "unable to resume screen by power button after call is finished" I described in my previous post I found it is most probably not related to OTA update but to HW problem...
I found my Proximity sensor is possibly dead. How the phone behaves (regarding screen on/off) during making or pick-up the phone is non standard. I also tried several android apps that are checking all sensors available on the phone and I see activity from all sensors except Proximity .
Talked also with HTC support... I'm going to sent my DS to HTC service center
Wish all getting the OTA update to enjoy it - I will certainly do so after I get my phone is repaired.
cheers
Ferro.
Pressing the power button during call or afterwards should light up the display.
At least that's what happened with the previous software version.
I'm still convinced HTC messed something in the update.
I have the exact same issue.
Has there been any work arounds how to fix this problem.
Mine's is on O2, never been rooted. Just stock.
If all fail looks like I will have to wipe phone and start again

Things to do before updating?

Allright, I finally got my Honor 8! FRD-L09 in Belgium through V-mall.:victory:
I got a notice there is an update available. I am currently on EMUI 4.1. On my older devices I never update and just flash higher versions instead.
Anything I should do before initiating this update?
Are there any reasons not to update (yet)?
Is there anything I should do like backups and all?
I'm currently trying to do an adb backup but I forgot what exactly is included in that. It's not the same as a nandroid is it?
Some weeks ago I saw some people need some files still. Forgot where it was or which wording was used. Does anyone still need something from a new user? Likely the request has already been filled with more people having the device by now.
I'm going to check out this thread later and mess around with xposed and those cool things.
Anything else I need to know about my device?
Thanks guys! Let's make this device awesome!:highfive:

Hi miva2
Since getting my Honor 8 i've had a couple of ota updates which have installed fine (apart from installing some chinese app updates, but that happened because my phone is the chinese version with a supplier-installed mod to mostly make the phone english)
as far as I'm aware an OTA update should preserve all of your data and settings, but it can't hurt to regularly back up your personal files.
For this I use a nice little app called MyPhoneExplorer
not sure what the difference is between an adb and nandroid backup other than what I read here http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/48833/whats-the-difference-between-a-nandroid-backup-and-an-adb-backup
Hope that helps
The initial thing is to charge your mobile above 70% and take a backup of your data. In the future if any problem arises, then the first thing to do is the Factory data Reset.
So its better to wipe the cache and install the update.
Also remember your Google Password which is used for Login into your Android Google Account. All the Honor mobiles released in 2016 has Factory Data Protection. So you need to remember the username and password u used for logging in this mobile previously.
Before OTA update, check the instructions on screen, if any, usually it will show you to charge your phone above 50%. For major update, it will also remind you to backup your data (but I've never done that...)
Just make sure to have 70% of battery, or plug it in the charger
Thanks for the tips!
I'll try to make an adb backup again later. Had trouble finding the device through adb. Probably need some drivers or something.

OTA update won't delete the data. However it is recommended to reset once after the update.
So taking backup is useful.

You're absolutely right there bro
It's obvious, it became a habit in me
It is recommended that you update to the latest version as soon as possible. After you receive an update notification, you can enter Settings > Updater to check the update and choose whether to update. It is recommended that you update using a Wi-Fi connection.
Normally, system updates will increase your phone's performance, and strengthen personal privacy and data security protection. They also provide new features, therefore it is recommended that you update as soon as possible. If you do not update, you can still use your current system normally.
Performing a system update will not clear user data, but in order to protect your data security, it is recommended that you back up your data before updating. (NS)

Okay so backup is just for user data. nandroid is not needed.
With reset I assume you guys mean a factory reset and not just a reboot.
Hope I get my sim card soon (mine was too big) so I can actually start using this phone instead of having it decorate my bedside table.

Yes we mean the factory reset.
In the meantime you get the SIM, you can update through Wifi (if available).
SIM is not mandatory to update.

Sorry, bad use of language from me.
Not complete apps, but every now and then stuff pops up on screen, all in Chinese, that I don't understand, one such screen must be some media portal as there was hyperlink pictures (bit like a Chinese version of YouTube) but selecting returns server error.
I accidentally installed last ota and the next update notification screen that popped up was also in Chinese language. All my location settings are English so I figured the Chinese stuff must be updated system files because they started appearing after I installed updates (guess that's why supplier recommended no ota)

I did one OTA update from b106 -> b135. Next one is to b160 and says it includes 3 patches. I didn't get any chinese popups or anything. I uninstalled most of them and disabled notifications/autostart on the ones remaining.
What version are you on and hows your standby time? Just testing the phone a bit now and standby isn't looking too good. Left it overnight with Wifi on and it lost around 10%. Wondering if its the rom, some setting or normal?

I'm on version 160, can't resist installing to see what gets improved, but I think it only a matter of time before an ota install breaks this e-mod-rom, I guess when that happens I'll just have to either pay e-to-talk for replacement rom or factory reset
I leave phone overnight with wifi on and bluetooth on (linked to my pebble wristwatch) and tend to lose 3 to 4 % by morning, really impressed with battery life. Have you found battery management app? I'm sure you would have, it's got some nice features for saving power

It maybe because I had no sim in it and the phone was constantly checking for it. Turned on airplane mode and left for 8 hours, it lost 1%. Now trying airplane mode with Wifi on.

Fingerprint Honor 6x does not work always

Hello guys, my fingerprint reader is not always working as it is intended. If it is working unlocking my phone isn't a problem, it is as fast as it should be. Also guestures on the fingerprint reader are working fine - then sometimes the fingerprint reader doesn't recognize that I put a finger on it. No vibration and no unlocked phone (obiviously) and I have to enter my pin to enter my phone.
Reboot doesn't resolve this issue, as it comes back a few minutes after restart. Phone is about a month old and on the latest Emui firmware. Any suggestions beside full wipe and returning to service center?
Thanks in advance!
The weird thing is that it doesn't even vibrate as to show that it didn't recognized the fingerprint, but it just doesn't show signs of life... And neither a reboot solve the issue instantaneously? So strange. Tell me something more, did you updated OTA, or with Firmware Finder? You have something like Greenify installes? Other?

No a reboot doesn't change anything - there is no app installed for battery optimization or a taskkiller or something similar. I've got the phone a month ago, everything else works flawless. I did the first update to android 7 via sd card and received another ota update some days ago. Every update was an official update from Huwaei/Honor, i have a c432 BLN-L21 device with no carrier lock or branding. Build: BLN-L21C432B365, Security patches from 1st August.
Just checked my build, man, and... we're exactly on the same, identical build. I only have to download the update and apply it because I'm still on B360, thing that I'll do probably tomorrow (even if I'd like to download the full package of 2,45GB and not only the upgrade of 547M, I'd like to keep the package for future eventualities since that Huawei removed firmwares from their site). Don't know if the first update via SD card could be responsible somehow or not of this, you remember if the update made by SD was the correct version of firmware that was matching with your initial build?
Does it happen mostly after you take out your phone from pocket and try to unlock with FP? Or some other behaviour while unlocking normally

It makes no difference if I take it out of the pocket or it is just lying around before trying to unlock it. No other faulty behaviour beside the unlocking problem.
@RedSkull23 I'm pretty sure I had the right firmware and that it was matching the product exactly.

Well this tightens the circle of possible causes of this, did your phone ever dropped? I'm starting to think at an hardware problem now...
Try performing a hard factory reset but wipe the Cache Partition first. Be sure to back up all your data before you do this. That should help with any software conflicts.

Seems more of a hardware issue or may be a factory reset can help him here
Even I had the same problem. So the solution is to delete your previous finger print and than enable a new one. Hope this helps....

I want to downgrade my MHA-L29 to N

I find the Oreo update to be an absolute disaster and I want to downgrade my Mate 9 to the latest N build for MHA-L29. The horrible bleutooth audio issues making my music sound like crap, notifications from WhatsApp muting my music even when it's on silenced, weird problems where the screen will suddenly up its contrast out of nowhere & the screen briefly having the brightness all the way up when I unlock it and then going to the setting it was put on has made it a nightmare for daily use.
I asked it to somebody in a thread about the developer options for Bluetooth audio not sticking and he told me the HiSuite app is the way to go to safely downgrade without voiding your warranty. I googled it and then downloaded the zip file from the official Huawei website:

However, when I try to run the .exe file my windows 10 virus detection goes off, saying it's some kind of Trojan. I downloaded it from another source, but I didn't see an option for downgrading anywhere. It said it was version 1.0 so I suspect it being an old version was the cause, but I don't feel comfortable force running the exe from the updated one from Huawei now.
If someone could help me figure out how to get this solved I would be very grateful because right now I'm really hating this phone. I'll come back to Oreo once Huawei gets their stuff done right.

Hi,
It's very easy to get back to N version with HiSuite. Just install it from http://consumer.huawei.com/minisite/HiSuite_en/ . If your antivirus tells you it's a problem, then the problem is with your antivirus. If you manage to install HiSuite, connect the phone and select the option UPDATE. It will tell you that you already have the latest version, but it will also give you the oportunity to reinstal the latest stable version, meaning N. Select that option and everything is fixed. You just have to wait for it to be installed.

Anyone get the feeling Oreo is going to be sort of like Kit-Kat with Huawei? On my Mate2, they just gave up, skipped kit kat because of the issues, and went to Lollipop.
From what I remember, they also had BT and other issues with kit kat. Jellybean was flat stable, and so was lollipop, but on the Mate2 forums of XDA, kit kat was a flop.
Personally, the only issues I've had with Oreo on my Mate9 (USA version), is once in a while it won't connect with the Ford Sync system on my Mustang, and lack of notifications, but, I don't entirely blame that on Oreo...I had it with Nougat also.

lack of notifications is the main issue I was having, I changed the "Launch" settings to manual and that has resolved about 90% of my issues
I had several apps that broke.
I just used the HiSuite method to downgrade, but restoring my backups was a real pain.

Nokia 5.3 doesn't vibrate

Hi, I can't find any thread about this topic, I hope I didn't miss anything.
The problem:
In October, I've bought Nokia 5.3 with Android 10 in Czech Republic (Europe, probably German or UK distribution) and I found out it doesn't vibrate. I tried an app that's dedicated to vibrating but it doesn't do anything and switching to vibrate-only mode using the menu invoked by volume keys switches the phone basically to a full DND mode.
I searched the Internet and found a few reports of other users of Android 10 phones with a similar problem. (None of them, however, with a Nokia phone, at least not concretely Nokia 5.3). I hence assume it's not a defect of my phone but rather a software bug in Android. I'm of course rather reluctant to test this by returning the phone and getting a new one thru warranty because I did put some time into setting this one up. I reached out to the Nokia support but they were unable to help me further than advising me to check a few settings (which were OK) and told me I probably need to wait for an OS update.
The question:
Do you have Nokia 5.3 and do you or do you not have the same problem?
Thank you very much for your experience and suggestions.
Hi,
I have Nokia 5.3, bought it recently. However I hate vibrations so that was the first thing I disabled in the settings. It was vibrating like hell . Check your phone settings, there is an option to turn it on and off.
Cheers!
Hi toppicks,
thanks for confirming that it's obviously not a software issue. I checked all the settings I could, none of them change anything.

Finally, I found time to do the factory reset, it didn't help. I tried with the SIM card and also without it, the phone still doesn't vibrate. I'll go return it to the vendor on Monday, hopefully, I'll get it resolved that way.
