Use Hotspot and wifi Sidesync self - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I am trying to use both these features at the same time. Has anyone been able to do this? The problem is sidesync looks for to be connected to wifi to use the feature but the problem is my phone is the router. My phone can talk to my computer just fine but the app itself doesnt realize this. Any thoughts?

Same here =(

Wireless tether password issue?

Hey guys when I use wireless tether whenever I set encryption and a password it won't show that the connection is secure when I try to connect. Anyone can connect to it, and it says "unsecured". I really don't like how other people can connect to my connection is there a fix for this?
I have the same issue, the encryption and password settings in the app seem to have no effect and anyone can connect. I have v1.6 running Fresh 1.1 rom.
What seems to work (prob not too secure though) is the access control function in the app, If you enable it and tether your desired PC(s) and check them off in the access control list, when a unrecognized PC connects you get a warning icon in the notification bar.
When I tested it the PC not checked in the access control list could not connect to the internet, even though it had a wireless connection to the phone. So it seems this may help prevent someone else from thethering to your phone.
Same issue here, never found a fix. Just been using Access Control...
You really just need to turn AC on. This way you have to give connections permission to connect. Its a known issue that the password protection is broken. - really kinda useless on an Ad-Hoc anyways, nativly not the most secure thing made.
Don't ask too much from the devs of that app, they have 5+ phones to support all with different issues/methods/kernels. I think its an excelent App for free.
I used Wireless Tether once before and it worked flawlessly. I then changed the SSID and passphrase and now it shows that i'm connected on my laptop, but it won't connect to the internet it takes forever to stop tething and stays running on the backround, so I deleted it. Where do find it to try and redownload it?

Make sure you download the 1.60 version
Go with v1.70-pre2, it resolves the overheating issue:

Nice! I was reluctant to try it, due to it saying it was for Donut.

I redownloaded and it still won't recognize my laptop, could it be that I am using a linksys card and don't have internal wireless? Is there a way to manually enter in a computer into the access control?

Mobile HotSpot Option in Froyo

Anyone Able to tether internet with the built in Hotspot option?
i am able to connect to it.. but its not getting any internet. Can someone tell me if this is a problem for everyone??
I tried it. Works.
Works for me also, although I do have to wait a bit after it connects for the internet to start working.
Works like a charm here. Disconnected from my wireless and connected to the hotspot on my Nexus One just now and I get decent speed as well.
1Mbps down and 0.5Mbps up. Didn't have to wait or anything, it just worked right away.

It works great! The best thing about it for me is that im finally able to tether my zune HD. With wireless tether for root i was only able to tether my ipod touch. Tethering my zune HD with my unlimited zune pass gets me all the music i want without looking for a hotspot for my zune!!
I noticed that the connection at first will not allow internet connectivity on my computer, but I give it about a minute or two and then it will work. Just be patient and keep your computer locked onto your android hotspot and it will work.

[Q] Fix 3.2 Bluetooth-Tether issue?

Hi!
Since Honeycomb 3.2 there is an issue with bluetooth tethering. The first time it works, but after disconnecting you won't be able to reconnect until you have rebooted the Xoom!
That's absolutely annoying... And I think at least for root-users (like me) there should be another way.
I couldn't find any fix on the internet. But I think it should be possible to maybe reload the bluetooth kernel module or something. Maybe it's mobule bcm4329? Does anyone know how to do that (modprobe doesn't work).
Or are there any other ideas?

My bluetooth connection wasnt reliable with bluetooth tethering either. I found though that when i did tether id only use the connection for like 30 minutes at most. If thats the case you should update to the latest version of wifi tethering from google v3.1 beta. Because when you tether wifi with that it tethers in infrastructure mode instead of ad-hoc that way your xoom can see it and connect with no problem. its completely reliable for me. And works flawlessly. ive had countless issues using bluetooth (Almost never was able to connect to network. only able to be paired)
if you do go that route. After connecting your xoom, make sure you have access control checked and that your device is in the list and enabled in wifi tethering then save.
Generally WiFi-Tether is no problem. I'm accessing the internet through my HTC with CM7 and Gingerbread offers WiFi-Hotspot by stock. But the point is, that this really drains your phone's battery if you just leave it connected.
Using Bluetooth-Tethering with the root-app Wireless Tether installed on my phone, the battery lasts much longer. Of course the connection is slower, but for mails etc. that doesn't matter. With Honeycomb 3.1 it worked great, but since 3.2 it simply won't reconnect until you reboot... You can even unpair and repair the devices etc., it doesn't help. After rebooting the Xoom it connect like a charm...
I think there has to be a way to just restart the bluetooth-module or something... But I don't know how.
Hey guys,
is there no one out there, who can help? If you search the internet, you find a lot of people, who are having this problem - no one even has a workaround.
The fact is, during reboot all the services and kernel-modules are reloaded (of course). So if s.o. could just say which service/module is responsible for bluetooth-tethering and how to restart/reload it without a reboot, this could already be very helpful!
I have an idea!
OK, I'm a little stuck, but I've got new information.
Obviously it's a DHCP-issue. Seems like the DHCP-client on the Xoom doesn't pick up a new IP anymore... If you type netcfg in a terminal emulator, you'll find that.
With su dhcpcd you often can push it get an IP! Then, after that, you sometimes can connect several times without problems, but connecting to WiFi again can be problematic...
Any ideas? Is there another way to make the dhcp-client get an IP?
My idea is to set up a static IP for that interface bnep0, but I can't find the proper config-file... Can someone tell me how to set up a static IP only for that single interface?
i am running wireless tether 2.08 which has Bluetooth wifi built in and I also have the same issues. Hopefully someone will come up with a fix for this. I kind of prefer running my Evo with Bluetooth than wifi since it does not run hot
No one has found a fix, yet?

[Q] Ad-Hoc Wifi

I'm trying to connect my Note to an Ad-Hoc connection. I'm sure there is something obvious I am missing for why I can't see the Ad-Hoc connection from my note 10.1 but can't figure it out and didn't see anything here.
I posted my solution in another thread here with same topic. Refer to it. But the FoxFi app is the solution to this. Google the apk because it was removed from marketplace. Install it on phone. Then install foxfi add on, on phone, that's in marketplace. Then you should be good to go. Tablet will now pick up your tethering signal. Root is not needed either(for phone or tablet). App works great on pure stock. Works fine on my pure stock SG3.

I'm not really looking for a tether solution. I can tether to my phone just fine. I specifically want to know if there is a way to get the Note 10.1 to connect to and ad-hoc network for another reason. I do presentations and sometimes. Often I can do them right from the note using the All-Share Cast Dongle, but sometimes (due to issues w/ Dongle working with certain adaptors) I have to have my laptop connected to the projector and want to control it with remote desktop with my tablet. I want to do this without relying on my host having wifi I can use. So I need ad-hoc connectivity to connect to my laptop directly without having to lug around a wireless router.
On another note, out of curiosity I tried FoxFi and it doesn't work on my phone anyway. The built-in (stock) tether app works great and is all I need.
Lopk for a wifi direct type program for your laptop or try bluetooth dun. Type connection. Pdanet could ne a solution just not sure. Some type of device to device metwork is needed .if your laptop has iis there could be a solution in it.

Hi!
I want to ask you: Have you solved this?
I also need to connect to an ad-hoc.
I've read: on some other android devices they root and replace their wpa_suplicant. Does anybody know if it is also possible on Note 10.1 ?
Sry for my english...
Thx
Never did get it to work. I'm on stock without root and just being lazy. Accomplished my task with a $20 wifi router.

Is rooting the only way connect an s8 to a mac's ad hoc network

Read lots of forum posts but they all seem quite old so hoping this is possible. Created a network on my macbook and need to get the s8 to connect to it but it doesnt show under wifi networks. Installed wifi analyser and shows the adhoc connection but says android doesnt support them. Tried also writing a static ip but didnt work and im not sure if im missing something as have been trying stuff for few hours now.
Could someone 100% confirm that it isnt possible and if rooting would definitly enable that functionality. I just need my s8 to connect to the same wifi network as the laptop so i can run rekordbox and sync my music libraries. I dont have bband or a router so joining an adhoc wifi connection is the only way it will work.
Any light shed is much appreciated
