Rooting failed but not really - General Questions and Answers

Hi
I'm really new at this so please bear with me if I'm asking dumb questions.
A couple of weeks ago I tried to root my device Galaxy S6 SM-G920F EGY. I ended up breaking my phone but then I fixed it by installing a stock rom that I found online.
Since then every Root Checker app that I've downloaded says that my device is unrooted. however, when I go to use secret browsing mode on the Samsung browser it says rooting detected.
Also I'm pretty sure that my device had 32 GB storage. Now it says I have 16GB of storage.
Please enlighten me on what the hell I did and how to fix it.

Do you have (SuperSu, Magisk or King root) installed into your phone application menu?

No I don't have either installed. For all intents and purposes my phone is unrooted. That's why I'm so confused when the Samsung browser says "root detected... cannot launch secret browsing "
I'm trying to attach a screenshot but I keep getting a "bad request" error on here

If you have the acess to TWRP or other recovery try to install this zip!
It's SuperSu zip installation.

[Q] Rooting T-Mobile SG3

I installed the OTA for 4.1.2 and have not rooted my T-mobile T999 at all. I've watched videos that said it was for this firmware and model, but when I go into recovery mode and try to install the zip file, I get a message saying "E: Signature Verification Failed." SuperSU is on my phone, but when I try to launch it, it says "There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!"
I've never rooted a phone before, but the videos I watched seemed really easy, but it's not working for me.
Can somebody post how to do it with the most updated G3rootsprint.zip file. Maybe I'm using one that's too old, or maybe since the update is only days old, it's not possible with the processes that are online already.

Use this guide to root the t999v. I used it a couple months ago and it works fine, and as a bonus it wont trip your flash counter.

[Q] Re-do Bad Root?

I've been having issues with all new root apps being auto-denied (namely goomanager) by superuser. I tried factory reset but unfortunately it kept root. SuperSU said I needed to update binary, but I have no idea how to do that, so I thought unrooting and re-rooting would be easier. Any advice?

Just follow the the instructions superuser gives to update the binary. That is what is causing your half root issues.

Alright, I rerooted with motochopper and updated using supersu, but goomanager still get "No recoveries were found for your device", even after I verified it had root access. Do I have to do the complicated method, or is there something else I can try?

Somehow GooManager doesn't seem to work on our tablets - don't know why but I read the same scenario more than twice: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524661
Use the fastboot method to install TWRP or the "MinimalADB fastboot Tool"
Yes goo manager has stopped support for installing twrp. I suspect too many people bricked as it can flash the wrong one. Only method now is fast boot from PC which is the best method.

[Q] Lost Root with 4.4.2, How to Reset Flash Count

I'm currently using the 4.4.2 Gummy Rom and I somehow lost my root but I still have my TWRP recovery. I was going to go back to stock unrooted and use the Casual toolkit to get back to where I was, but my flash count is tipped.
I feel like I'm in a loop because I can't root on 4.4 and because I lost my root I can't use Triangle Away to fix my flash count, but I feel like I'm missing something. Is there anyway I can get my root back to use Triangle Away?
Thanks, any help is appreciated.

Have to use twrp to flash SuperSU 1.86zip (latest version)?
Tap build number about ten times to enable Developer Options, go into Developer Options, and set root access to "Apps and ADB."

You don't need root to flash SuperSu in twrp, that's how you originally obtained root.

Just install SuperSu from the play store and update the binary. Its not that you lost root, its just gummy does not come with a superuser app installed. I had this same problem too.

When I do that, it keeps saying that installation failed and to try reboot.
Also, what you are saying is that technically I can move to another rom and I will have root?

yes, if you flash a pre-rooted rom you would have root.

SuperSU needs to update binary

Just updated my Nexus 5 using the OTA thread that went through fine,
I then proceeded to update SuperSU using the following link: http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu which was the update v1.99r3.
Using TWRP I flashed this and root is working for most apps i have tested: titanium, adblock, root explorer. So root is back.
However whenever I load up SuperSU I keep getting the following message: "The SU binary needs to be updated. Continue?"
So of course I have done this and let it use TWRP to flash. Let the phone boot up and upgrade the app as it needed. However on next load up of the app it asks to do the same yet again.
I feel as though I'm forgetting something as it's been a while since I've done this. ( use to live on flashing when i had my SII)
My Nexus is Stock ROM. CF-Auto Rooted. TWRP Recovery. Nothing else is modified.
Help would be appreciated, even though I don't go into supersu all that often anyways.
Cheers all.
What if you upgrade it using the "normal" method?
If I do a normal install i get the following:
Installation failed!
Please reboot and try again.

That message is usually indicative of not having root in the first place. What if you flash it via TWRP then do it normally? Could TWRP be removing it with its "Fix root" option?
What about other recoveries? Do they allow root to stay?

How odd like I said my apps are all receiving their root permissions...
What file would we be talking about flashing? The Temp one SuperSU makes to flash when you click install via TWPR?
I don't have any other recoveries on my phone, so I wouldn't know about that last option.

Are they though? SuperSU grants permissions but if the binary is not present, its irrelevant. Can you actually do root things with the root apps that have the permissions?
Have you tried other binary download?

In SuperSU, do the TWRP flash install of the binary and reboot, then try the "normal" install immediately after

Theres a link in my signature to Philz recovery. In the settings is a root option, so the recovery itself can root without flashing any zips. Maybe try that if downloading an older flashable zip or the above hasnt worked.

It does seem that way Titanium has backed up an app just now, adblock has updated and Nova is hiding the time on the first screen.

Good news. The latest version of Philz, s it is CWM based - uses the latest Cyanogen sources to build. I update the CM sources everytime I build Philz so hopefully there should be fewer issues when new stuff comes out.

Twrp....

I'm trying to install a custom recovery...... I'm s - off and unlocked with sunshine. Issue is twrp manager says I'm not rooted so I can't use it. Flashify says I'm rooted but don't have su permissions, so I can't use it. I'm totally confused, they're both contradicting each other and am stuck. I have no access to a computer for 2 days so I need to install a recovery through the phone itself. Thanks.

Have you downloaded SuperSu from the Play Store? If yes, make sure you've opened the actual app so it can load new binaries. Also try Root Checker Basic in the Play Store. What happens when you try to run the official TWRP app? It should be able to guide you through.

Do you have an External SD Card?
If so, download TWRP Recovery from here : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712475334
This is from Captain_Throwback. You can install his TWRP using hboot method. The instructions on how to do that are here: http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?16278-RECOVERY-ALL-M8-VARIANTS-MultiROM-TWRP-Recovery-v2-8-0
I can't move the file to the root of SD card because root explorer doesn't show me having root privileges.
I recommend the fast boot method here. http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/226

Does anyone around you have a phone with an SD slot? You could put your card in there phone and copy the file you need then put it back in your phone. Just trying to through out some ideas.
None of my friends feels the need to mess with things.
