What is it made off? - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

What is the back glass made off? Is it the same gorilla glass 5 as on the front? Couldn't find any info about it..

I've tried to find a clue in this video. But I still don't know. You can give it a try.
I don't understand why they don't use the same scratch scale on the back and the camera lense.

Scratched Camera Lens

Hey guys, it seems like the camera lens is scratched very easily. Does anyone know how to fix this? Possibly a replacement or repolishing?
Are you having the same problem?
I'm not sure about replacement nor repolishing... but no, it seems that my camera lens do not scratch easily - as I have no single scratch on it so far.
I remember once when I had my first iPod, one of those 20GB white ones with the B+W screens, it got scratched really easily. And it was a plastic screen, like our camera lens. My dad was able to use some plastic wax or something and fill in the scratches and make it look like new. Try a SMALL amount of something like that.

same here. Anyways, I searched around, I found that there is kinda scratch removal, but nothing about for camera lens unfortunately. So, I am not sure, if it is possible to use that.

I dont think youre going to find a definite answer anywhere so only one way to find out
The covering over the camera is almost definitely plastic. I don't know why they didn't choose glass for better durability but oh well. So I am going to assume that anything that fixes plastic will work on the covering piece of the camera. If you find something that works please get back to us on this thread.
I searched around briefly about replacements, but didn't find anything. My camera lens cover is cracked. The photos are actually still OK though. So I'm not in a huge hurry.

[Q] Is the Camera lens made out of gorilla glass too?

Hey guys I was wondering if the camera on the phone is made out of gorilla glass as well? Cause im thinking of switching to a fourth case if the asnwer is that it is not. Has anyone experienced any scratches on the lens so far?
No... Why would it be?
to protect the lens inside, and also so it wont be scratched. DUUUH lol. But I have no clue if it really is.
its not. the only phone that i know of that does have it is a nokia because of its 12 megapixel shooter.
Nope, sadly it is not even glass, it is plastic!
I had mine in my pocket for ONE day and started seeing little scratches.
I was going to call SAMSUNG and ask what it was made of but if you take something (a coin?) and GENTLY tap on it you can tell that it is plastic.
I imagine one could purchase a tiny little pane of glass somewhere and mod this... if mine gets many more scratches I might give it a try!
Thanks for letting me know! Just gotta remember not to put my keys in the pocket with my phone haha. THis camera is pretty good to have scratches on it.
Yep its daaam goood!
Ive had my camera "protected" for a few weeks giving it a nice cleaning and then applying a little fragment of that plastic sheets that screen protectors are made from(basicly i just bought a random transparent screen protector and cut off a piece to match the camera).
Since i always have the phone and a bunch of keys and coins on the same pocket i decided to give it a try xD seems to work not a single scratch on the plastic.
Even tho... Maybe the camera plastic alone was doing a good job protecting the camera i like to think.it has double protection... Haha

Does it decrease picture quality? I might just try this!
Not likely - Gorilla Glass probably has optical qualities that make it inferior for a photographic lens.
Scratch-resistant lens coatings do exist (such as Pentax Super Protect coatings) but it would be unlikely to see these in a phone camera.

No it doesnt change the quality if the cleaning before putting the cover sheet was wel done...
yet it sometimes comes.off while getting the phone in and out of the pocket.. Im wondering if its actually useful xD yet i wanted to give it a try hahah

Yup.... Luckily for me there is a lot of glass over the lens and the scratch is just below it so it doesn't affect my taking of pictures...

Camera flash lens cover scratches easily?

Took phone out case today to just kinda clean off and noticed that the camera flash lens had a ton of scratches on it,anyone else notice or have this problem?any does anyone know if it's even made out of glass, wouldn't think glass would scratch that easily, my phone been in case and use holster since I got it.
Never got one scratch on my lense, must be a defective lense cover. I have mine in an otterbox and it's fine.

Yep, neither my camera lens or flash/heart rate monitor get scratched from my case, should be a defect

Thanks, just spoke with someone who repairs them, they said the HR sensor lens is made of plastic, just a heads up.
I probably did it from wiping it clean today..smh.
A scratch has 0 effect on either the flash or HR that's probably why they opted for cheaper plastic than Gorilla glass like everywhere else covering essential components like the screen and camera lens.

My note 5 had a clear plastic film over the lens and flash that did scratch easily.
Looking at your photos I think yours might to - look at it closely and I think you will see the edge of the film.
Try to carefully remove it using the corner of a credit card or similar plastic item.

No plastic film on camera and heart sensor lenses?

Did anyone notice that, unlike the GS6 and other Galaxies before it, the S7 and S7 Edge don't have the plastic film that covers both the camera and heart sensor lenses when you first got it? Some people take them off when they got the phone, but I left it on there on my GS6 to protect the camera lense from scratches.
Just wanted to know whether someone has noticed this on their phones as well?
U are anyways suppose to remove them.

That plastic makes photos you take worse because it reflects lights to the camera in a way that it is undesirable. You bought a phone with a fantastic camera. Why would you leave a thing like this attached to it?
Besides, the camera glass is Gorilla. Heart hate sensor is a cheap one. And if you use any kind of case, you can put your phone on the table and the camera glass will never touch table directly.
Enjoy your phone. I know it is not cheap, but it is just a phone.

Thanks, appreciate your feedback
Even if it did have that plastic on it and you left it on, it'd get scratched up pretty quickly. If you wanted some kind of protection though, you could try d-brand skins. They cover the glass on the camera lens, leaving only a small opening for the aperture (although I don't know how much "give" there is for the OIS function), but that could still get damaged. Personally, I just have a case, front screen protector and that's it.

Camera problem

Hello guys i just noticed something on my 2S when i look at the camera there is something under the glass near the flash and its getting bigger... Should i be worried? Do you have the same?
I don't have anything like that on mine. As long as it doesn't affect your pictures I'll say don't be worried
Sent from my Mi MIX 2S using Tapatalk
I think even if that color wont be there at all that it shouldn't have any effect on camera quality...
It just looks ugly and i hope its not some glue and then the glass will fall off
It looks like theres still the protector on the lens with some air under it
Strange is when i press it it doesn't go away.. But it can be some protector wonder if i can take it off
looks like protector, i can feel when with finger touch it, but dont know did safe to remove it... try ask on MIUI forum
UPDATE: Mix is back from service and its just the glass cover being not well put in the frame, exchange part will come soon and the price with cleaning and work will be 30€
