[ROM] KKMod Gingerbread ROM for 8" IMX515 (v2.3.3.r03)

KKMOD is ROM for the 8" imx515 tablet(1 or 2 speakers model) users based on the following original image (http://www.hiapad.com/bbs/viewthread.php?tid=83&extra=page=1)
Note that there seem to be 1 known model which seem to use a realtek wifi hardware. This rom will not have a working wifi for this model. There are also 1 to 2 users who have trouble flashing the new rom so try it at your own risk.

Performance seem to be good but I have to confess that I am not a heavy user so might not have fully tested all features.
This MOD is intended as a community project. If you have benefited from this ROM, do consider contributing back in your own ways. Simple things such as sharing what work for you and for which model of tablet will be useful for other users.
Download ROM(v2.2.3.r03)
Steps for upgrading to KKMod ROM
1. Download KKMod Romkit v1.2 and burn to CD/DVD
2. Bootup RomKit
3. Bootup tablet and connect usb cable to PC and Tablet
4. Flash KKMod Bootloader using Romkit (this is only required if you currently do not have the kkmod bootloader. If you upgrading to newer release of kkmod rom, goto step 6.)
5. Shutdown Tablet
6. Hold Power + BACK and power up(make sure the usb cable is still connected).
7. Flash KKMod Android ROM using Romkit
8. Reboot Tablet using Romkit

Additional Information:
G-sensor configuration:
The sensor is expected to work out of the box for single speaker model. If you should however encountered inverted/side inverted issue, you can tune the sensor position using build.prop.
ro.sf.gsensor.position(value can be 0,1,2,3) and ro.sf.gsensor.xy(value can be 0,1). Try around different combination of position and xy.
Default is 0 for both if you did not add the parameter.
Known working config:
- Default work for single speaker model
- ro.sf.gsensor.xy=1, ro.sf.gsensor.position=2 (confirm working for a few users on dual speakers model)
Setting Date/Time:
Only the setting the time will save the date/time into the right hardware clock. If you want to change the date only, you will still need to set the time.
Factory Reset:
It is recommended to do a one time factory reset when you first flash the ROM especially if you are upgrading from 2.2
Settings->Privacy->Factory Reset
If after upgrading the rom, you get into a bootloop and is unable to do factory reset. Connect to ADB while in bootloop and run "adb shell wipe data". Thanks alistassio for sharing

Known Issues
- One reported case of consistent tablet hung when changing date
** fixed in v.2.3.3.r02**
- One reported case of unable to wakeup from standby
** known issue with freescale code that after 10+ times of going to standby. Tablet may not be able to resume. Make sure to shtudown tablet when not in use**
- internal /sdcard get un-mounted when usb drive is connected
- menu/back soft button work intermittently
** fixed **
- bluetooth will not turn on if you connect bluetooth after you boot up due to permission isuse. It will also not work if you connect/disconnect/connect as the bluetooth device id get changed.
- 3g data will not work as Phone.apk will caused status bar to crashed
** this is due to updateDataIcon() which need to be fixed **

here i have done a little Tutorial to install / flash Xposed and Dolby Atmos for Vernee Apollo Lite.
tested with latest original Vernee OTA K15TB-A.A.vR1C.N1.160727 (27.07.2016)
first you need Recovery TWRP and ROOT !!! special [email protected][email protected]

Installation:
1. copy all 4 Files directly to internal or externeal SD Card.
2. In Phone goto Settings->About Phone->tab 5-7times on (Build number) to activate Developer Options.
3. goto Settings->Developer Options and activate (OEM Unlocking) and (USB debugging).
4. turn Phone completly off.
5. hold Volume(+) and Power Button for ~5sec until you see the mini Apollo Lite Recovery Menu.
6. with Volume(+) chose RECOVERY Press Volume(-) for Ok.
7. Now you can see TWRP/CWM Menu. Navigate with Volume(+) and Volume(-) for going up and down. PowerButton for OK.
8. in TWRP/CWM goto (Install ZIP) then (Choose zip from SD Card) or search in (Choose zip from ExtraSD) for xposed-v86-sdk23-arm64.zip and flash.
9. Flash (grorkmod_v1.0.zip) and after that (dap_r6.5.zip) too.
10. REBOOT
11. back on Android install (XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk)
12. REBOOT
13. Now you have a working Xposed and you can use all his cool Modules On AppDrawer you will find Dolby Atmos too

Annotated, I'll work with the correction. Some problems with the Mod are derived from the version of QuickPic, Removing all that is malicious can cause a certain instability and sacrifice functions of the app, That's why I chose to disable. Connections to Chinese servers are disabled by accessing accounts such as Facebook. And this without sacrificing the connection with stored cloud.

What no transparent toolbar? I liked that

I removed by the mysterious fact of not working well without the CM Cloud. And somehow the transfer also collects information. (I do not know if they are to ensure the proper functioning of this function itself) plus I chose to remove for security.

Thanks a lot for this amazing mod! Best gallery app ever!!

The "link to home screen" option isn't working, think you can fix it in the future updates?

Sadly can't use this mod because it still bugs on Oreo with pink text color.
Now I know about the hardcoded color values, but isn't there an other way to fix this since it's only a bug on oreo. There where other apps that had this pink text bug once oreo came out.
Don't know if it's possible but I really can't find a gallery app that can replace quickpic for me on oreo.

- This option, accessible from Settings -> Security -> Extremely Secure Keyguard, disables all types of interactions that can trigger QS and QQS panel expansion via gestures
Lockscreen Minus One Page Lock
- This option, accessible from Settings -> Security -> Lockscreen Minus One Page, denies/enables the gesture to open the Lockscreen Minus One page on a secured lockscreen
Face Unlock now is capable of unlocking apps that need biometrics verification.
Lockscreen Minus One Page
This page is accessible from lockscreen, swiping from left to right and dismissable swiping from right to left or from bottom to top.
It has three quick options on the bottom:
- Emergency Mode, Torch, DND
Emergency Mode is an emergency feature that will keep your screen-on unless dismissed.
While keeping your screen on, there will be multiple informations on screen:
- Blinking help request on top (that will change language on every blink)
- Name and Surname
- Blood Type
- Address
- Pre-existant medical conditions
It will also send message(s) to the contact(s) of your choosing, with your current position (if available), communicating that you need help.
If your position changes meanwhile the emergency is still on-going, further messages will be sent communicating the change of your position.
Emergency mode needs setuping.
It's accessible by Settings -> Descendant Health -> Medical Infos
or by the alert that pops-out when trying to trigger Emergency Mode from Lockscreen Minus One Page.
Beware that the emergency number(s) you will setup has/have to be a mobile so that SMS can be sent.
Also please note that this is a feature in beta and doesn't want to replace any medical equipment.
The torch toggle, will trigger torch on and off.
Same for DND toggle, will trigger DND mode on and off.

Thats strange. Did you flash the provided boot.img , performed a factory reset
and than did a sideload of the new zip?

yes. there is no camera included, just install google camera from play store.

okay google doesnt work and swiping from corners doesnt bring up the google assistant either

Might have to reset your assistant, everything is working fine for me.

It asked for a an update. It became stupid slow after that. Especially the swipe from corner never shows.

what language do have set as primary language ? Are you based in a NGA (new google assistant) supported area?
If you use a language that is supported by New Google Assistant you will probably want to force Old Google Assistant because NGA has overlay issues with transcription animation on custom ROM. To force old Google Assistant try adding Russian as a second language in Google Assistant language settings

Very nice ROM, hope LiveDisplay is back in future. ( very helpful for fix my burn-in screen ).
- And I would really like to see the ability to disable the animation when FP unlocking( it looks very laggy ).
- Audio balance is unable to move ( working, but slider is dead ).
If possible add more "App grid" values ( 5x6, 6x6, etc.).

Instead of live display you can use kcal which is available in Xiaomi Parts.

Firstly thanks for reviving Evo-X for Whyred.
Feedback on the rom:
- ROM-> largely smooth although snettings app did crash couple times initially. Better now
- Play store version resets on reboot/clear cache via recovery; version downgrades to stock version(25.x rather than latest one 28.x)—> probably source related as faced issue with last stable evo build as well
- Certain apps lag on opening esp. phone app.
- VoWifi icons are good although both volte/vowifi icons do not seem to reflect correct status.
- Personal safety app crashed & did not load; uninstalled the app. Emergency contact no missing now in lock screen.
- Settings app colour(in app drawer/while launching settings) needs to be monet based but appears to be blue only.
- Deep sleep-> appears working fine
- Fingerprint shutter in miui camera doesnt work(?)
- Battery stats are slow to load(as i believe in most a12 roms).
- Battery reset option missing-> maybe src specific(?)
- Charging info like volt/amps missing(again src specific i guess).
- fm radio app dead(crashes/does not work)
- Sys ui crashes often especially when changing settings options like icons etc
- Does AOD work? Tried setting interval but dead i suppose (?)
- Suggestion: Can battery usage section be like graph rather bar? Ideally curve used to reset post recharge but now doesn't so...

Thank you for updating this device ROM and reading the comments.
I would like to be able to set a custom date format (as in previous versions), with capitalized style ( like a "Friday, 12 July." )
And also the ability to display the date regardless of the location of the time. (for example, in the left side is the date, in the right is the time).

Bug report: when floating rotate button disable in settings is still showing. But if auto-rotate is ON and floating rotate button is disable it work.

When I connect an external speaker, touch screen doesn't work so I must force restart the phone
It happens every time

After installing it
It shows evolution x logo for like 5 mins then reboot then evolution x logo for another 5 mins and so on
How to fix that??

Working:
- UI smoother than before.
- Randomise MAC Address option under Wifi & Network settings added & working.
- Good to see more settings under hotspot management.
Changes/missing features:
- Settings app colour(in app drawer/while launching settings) needs to be monet based but appears to be blue only.
- Charging info like volt/amps missing.
- Toggle to over-ride VoLTE when VoWifi exists.
- AOD does not work.
- Battery stats reset option missing
- Pixel launcher crashes often.
- Colored icons for notification
- Toggle to disable/enable data usage.
Few settings do not persist across reboot:
- System font.
- Full screen nav bar.
