You flip the toggle under OEM unlocking...
Unlocking the bootloader is a standard, supported feature of this device.
1) Go to About -> Build in the Settings menu.
2) Tap until you unlock Developer options in Settings.
3) Go into Developer options.
4) Enable OEM unlocking.
There really isn't anything special here as far as the bootloader is concerned.
Now, TWRP, root, and SIM unlock, those would be useful to figure out.

this doesnt unlock the bootloader. It just allows the bootloader to be unlocked by the OEM manufacturer

So I just noticed today that the H950 version of 5.1.1 has an "Enable OEM Unlock" option within the Developer Options settings.
Does checking this option make it possible to use adb to unlock the bootloader? I'd do it myself, but I don't know the specific consequences of a failed bootloader unlock attempt. Experience tells me that I won't brick unless I'm actually altering files on the system partition. Does an unlocked bootloader entail altering files or is it simply a flag that is set or unset?

Technically it should be and likely so but the price might be the turn off though.
It doesn't really unlock the bootloader--it just allows unlocking (at least from the OS's perspective--ZTE is known for locking its bootloaders down pretty hard).
To unlock bootloader, I needed both the adb thing AND that option enabled
Curious...what is the oem unlock bootloader option in settings developer for? Have not seen mentioned to tick this b4 bootloader unlock thru HTC Dev.

And for select HTC devices with Android Lollipop and all devices that receive Marshmallow, you will need to first manually enable OEM unlocking in Developer options in order to allow the bootloader to be unlocked and proceed with the next steps. To access the OEM unlocking setting on your device, open the Developer options in the system Settings.

I am being told that Cricket Phones cant have the Bootloader Unlocked. I find this hard to believe. Even with how much I'm struggling to get the bootloader unlocked on my nokia phone. Any ideas?
Well on my Z851M in developer options there's an option to enable "OEM unlocking". This might require the dialer code *#*#759#*#* to be run first and then the OEM Mode to be enabled.
Ok so I fully understand the Verizon Pixel 3 is not Bootloader unlockable but if the main thing that allows the unlock is under developer options would it be possible to restore a ADB backup of a pixel with the OEM unlocking slider enabled to potentially enable the option on the locked variant?

see here. It's possible we can modify some firmware and flash it to the device's Titan M chip.
