Just installed AndroidStudio 3.0.1 and Res and Java is missing - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
As the title implies, I just installed Android Studio 3.0.1 and I'm trying to follow many tutorials and training videos but most of them keep referring to things I cannot find in my install.
Most notable, most of these tutorials show a RES folder and a JAVA folder under the APP folder.
I do have the APP folder, but there is neither a JAVA folder NOR a JAVA folder underneath.
Can you please tell me what I'm doing wrong and how to get them to appear?
Thanks

android sdk and ubuntu

Hi,
I have a question. I want to look at my apps on ubuntu and have installed the android sdk and can get it to boot. However, i cannot install any applications on it. I downloaded a system.img which I think I need to move to the .android folder and specifically into that avd folder.
However, where do I find this folder in ubuntu? I know where it is put for windows and can do it on a windows operating machine.
Thanks for the help
In nautilus (the file manager) click on view > show hidden files. This will allow you to see all the hidden directories. In linux, directories that being with a "." are hidden.

Problems with root directory when installing ADT plugin in eclipse.

I'm not sure i have the right directory and i'm a newbie. sry.
But ive gotten to eclipse and preferences then android, but when i browse i dont know where my root directory is..
Once i thought i had it once but i was told that i was missing certain files..
I'd really like some help..
EDIT program Files\Sun\JavaDB\javadoc\jdbc4\org\apache\derby- the directory that i think works-)
Also when i browse for the root directory i get this message:"Error Parsing the sdk-( program Files\Sun\JavaDB\javadoc\jdbc4\org\apache\derby\platforms is missing"
Then after i exit out of the notification i get this " SDK Platform Tools is missing! Please Use the SDK Manager to install it."
And then after that one i get this: Failed to get required ADT version number from the sdk. The android developer tool may not work properly.
To install the ADT tools plugin you need the link from the android site for the repository.. then you go to preferences in eclipse and set android to the android sdk location.
not sure, but i think thats what you were talking about.

[Q] Any way to compile java programs in android ?

Is there a way to compile .java file to .class file and execute it
I wanted to compile c/c++/java programs, not for my phone but in my phone...
I searched but did not find an easy way for it.
At last I found out a real easy way to compile c/c++ by using adosbox for android.
I copied the turbo c 'tc' folder from my pc to my sdcard and used adosbox like command promt to go to 'bin' folder in tc and start tc.exe...
Then I could easily write and compile programs just like i did on the pc
But still no luck for java programs...
I copied the reqired java folder and then used adosbox to run the command "javac file.java" but it said "This Program Cannot Be Run in DOS Mode"
So if there is any other way to compile java programs in my phone
please help
Thanx in advance
Try looking at Eclipse, although Eclipse is a large desktop IDE, it includes its own Java compiler written in Java (in the part called "JDT core"), and if (as I hope) that Java compiler is not copyrighted by Sun/Oracle, you (or someone else already maybe) may be able to compile that part of Eclipse into a "native" Dalvik/Android App.
Googling the issue, I see that others have been asking for an Android port of Eclipse too, so maybe there will be some momentum going for this soon.

I use Bluestacks 0.9.11.4119 . I Install android applications and games, from root folder (i.e. device/android/data/data) i copy all the folders to windows directory (i.e. publicfolder/pictures), now many of the apps or games have two type of similar files and i need to see what's inside of the files,

In addition to apktool (thanks, @kaiodduarte), you're also going to need a good text editor (I use Notepad++), an archive manager (like 7zip or WinRAR), and the ZipSigner app for your device.

It will help you with actually being able to make edits to text files without screwing up all of the line endings and encoding.

[Q] Problem Modding APK

Hello guys,
I am modding an apk to bypass an update check.
I have this outdated APK that functions fine since the URL and query and site address remains same but whenever it checks for and update it crashes. The thing is the developer made it topnotch but since then left and his site was recently taken down so check update query crashes it totally. What I need to do is update just the one function where it brings up the GUI after start. Otherwise it keeps saying download update or crashes randomly at time of starting up.
Now I have been browsing for a day or two for all the tutorials and right now I`m hell lot of confused. I have downloaded many tools and dependencies but I dont know how to proceed. I will tell you guys what I have and what I need.
I have de-compiled the APK using "dex2jar", I had a .JAR file which I decomplied using JD-GUI-Windows now after saving source I have .ZIP file in which I made the necessary editing. Next I downlaoded APKTool.JAR and extracted resource files and XML files that can be read in text editor. Along with some .SMALI files.
Now I am not familier with SMALI language at all and editing in it seems rather complicated and on the other side I have the .JAR file that decomlied all the classes just fine.
MY QUESTION IS:
How do I recompile the files I have ? I have the main coding extraced using dex2jar so in java format and JD-Gui to in .ZIP files, and resources/XML files also decoded using APKTools. What do I do next to recompile the APK ?
In short I have plain text based java source code and plain text XML and other resource file. How do I recompile it ?
