As above all the google apps, mail, maps and google, fail on my head unit. They didn’t at first but now won’t run at all. Have done a reset and it helps a bit but a day later, poof all failing again.
Unit is a KGL PX5 MTCD android 6 and it’s totally stock.
Ok google seems to work.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKTb0kArJ5Y
There is just a general problem with px5 roms and kernel and they don't manage to fix it.
For some smartphones there are alternativ systems made but seems nobody makes a better Kernel for px5.
On my PX5 unit, everything works exept maps.
Root - de-install system app maps - install Version 9.46.2
Thanks it’s a minor issue for a head unit I guess (side from maps which was my preferred nav) don’t really need mail just handy to mail myself wall papers ?. And I don’t search the web much. But the maps is a pain as it’s handy to just do it all by voice, “ok google lets got to Nando’s” ???
Try Waze, has also Voice Search, not as integrated in Android but other nice Features.
In my experience thinking everything (else) works only means not using it intensively.
The Android is not stable, just look the kernel name.

Good idea, I’ve just loaded Waze and tried the voice, pretty cool.
Shame about google maps is great to just say ok google where’s good to eat without even having to touch anything.
I also emailed the video to the seller who said I must have done something in settings ?*.
They also said the green phone button only lights up when receiving a call as well, and when I said it doesn’t at all said it doesn’t need too. Going off them rapidly ??

I've searched a LOT and couldn't find any method. There's terracrosser, but I find it's interface unusable. MGMaps in wonderful, but sadly doesn't support Google Maps. In my area, Yahoo/WLive maps suck. No comparision with google maps.
Is there ANY software available, free or paid, which can help me browse Google maps offile, and supports GPS?
Or, is there a hack/method to use Google Maps in MGmaps?
Thanks.

Of course I've done that! But if you yourself go over the links, there's *no* solution. Either Terracrosser is being recommended (which I honestly hate), or the post is older, before the time when Google disallowed MGMaps to use GMaps.

I'd double the request. I also searched LOT and tried the solutions - even downloading the maps from google using different apps... still there comes a dead end with everything (getting banned, getting just one colossal map image etc)... a WORKING solution is missing
just to make sure then you do know what I posted was 13 links to 13
threads about your question not
just 13 links to the same thread
right ?
would be surprised if non of them had any type of helpful info
of cause if it don't HAVE to be google maps then there are many standalone
gps programs with offline maps out there from tomtom, garmin,......
Of course there is a way. Here is how to do it in three easy steps:
1 - Buy 49% of Google's shares and become a partner.
2 - Copy all your maps and software to a mobile server and put that into the trunk of your car (with the appropriate power supply of course).
3 - Attach a Router to the Server. You are done! Now you have a mobile wi-fi google maps setup that you can take anywhere with you! No need of annoying offline modes and such.
I hope this helps.
Really all of the posted topics were not helpful enough. My point is to have SATELLITE imagery of entire country (Estonia) @ the maximum zoom layer only (which vary according to area sometimes). I do not even care which program runs it. Just gps spot and OFFLINE data. I would be even happy with simple thing like terracrosser. The main problem is that the PC side downloaders get banned by ip (rarely), download one BIG useless image file or just unreadable data. And the handheld device apps use just a caching approach what makes it hard to understand what you have and haven't. Even Google/Global Navigator at its high price is not able to select the entire area. I'd be happy even with TRIAL Google/Global NAvigator!
I got it guys!

I tried this solution but the map data were not downloaded completely. The data was incomplete. BTW... java. I know I know - it is usable but it still feels like running a virtual machine. Which actually is also happening.
Terracrosser does the thing actually but the user interface controls are catastrophically bad

Hi All,
I recently purchased a HTC Desire, and then also purchased Sygic Mobile Maps 10 - but alas, it's not letting me open the app. It opens, goes to black screen, then returns me back to my home screen.
Anyone know how to fix this?
Have you contacted Sygic support?
They must help you for paying customer.

I know this might not help but works fine for me...
You did install the maps from the PC and sync'd the device with the software...
Yay! I got it working. Thanks guys for all the help. I just started a fresh, dumped files on the card, installed the software and it works a treat!
Thanks again.
Same problem
Hi -
I just downed my 2 gig update to version10 file.
But I have the same problem after installation.
I mailed Sygic, but maybe you could tell me what you did ?
I have the exact same error.
Under the installation it did not ask me to remove maps -
So I did this by unselection in sync app.
Then install maps again.
And last installed app manually.
BTW im on the newly Android 2.1
Please advice

i'm torn between sygic and ndrive, since they are both paid apps, I want to be sure I make the right decision. any comments between the two? I tried ndrive for 7 days trial, while it works, the route calculation is not very good and the features are very basic.
I can't try sygic since they do not have trial..

I strongly recommend Sygic. I have NDRive (V9) pre-installed on a PDA, and I found that it has many shortcomings. Just to name a few:
- Its navigation instructions are not clear. For example, when it tells you "keep right", that may just mean that you should take the rightmost lane and proceed forward, but it may also mean that you should turn right to another road. The only way to tell is to look at the display. Furthermore, in some junctions it simply doesn't give any instruction at all.
- Its routing is not very good. I've seen it make various silly mistakes.
- There's no way to tell it to navigate to a point that you indicate on the map. You first have to create a favorite, and then tell it to navigate to it.
- The map of Portugal has many errors. While other maps are from Teleatlas, the Portuguese map is from InfoPortugal and is much less accurate. This is somewhat silly, because the software is Portuguese and I guess that Portugal is their main market.
I've had the opportunity to try Sygic version 7 (it was called McGuider, then), and that version was much better than NDrive V9. Sygic is now at version 10, which should be even better.

You must close your network, it' work for me.
For almost 2 years I used a Touch Diamond. While WiMo is far from perfect in todays world with a bit of tweaking and some extra software I had a device that did what I wanted it to do. Sure, WiMo isnt what you´d call fast but as said, it did what it had to do.
For the past few days I´ve been using android with my new htc legend. I heard a lot of good things about android and that is why I decided to switch. But even after a few days I´m already having a feeling of regret. While android is very fast and finger friendly the OS/apps itself just don't cut it compared to WiMo. About 75% of the things I did on a daily basis with my phone just don't work (properly) on android.
Syncing mail with hotmail is a *****. It for example does not sync read messages so everytime I login with my pc I still have to click all new messages while I already read them on my phone. This worked perfectly with WiMo.
No automatic 3g disconnect. Now this isnt default on WiMo either but there are apps that just disconnect a idle data connection. Now android has a whole bunch of apps like juicedefender but they just dont work properly and are overcomplicated. Just disconnect if I don't use it. Thats all I want. Let apps and whatever connect when they want to and kill the connection when they are done. Simple you'd think but impossible on android it seems.
Youtube is a epic fail. In the exact same place, with the exact same simcard I just can't load a movie. They all stop after 3 seconds and don't load further. Also there is no option for always having HQ. The WiMo app had this and I could always load HQ movies without trouble.
But it gets even worse when it comes to much more practical things. The browser won't save exchange webmail login info. So now I'm expected to loging like 5 times a day to my uni mail by typing my info every time? Not nice.
And what about displaying agenda items? can't do that on the lockscreen. There are apps to do this but not on the htc sense one as far as I've seen. So I have to manually check my agenda which is just a ***** because I'm just to seeing things come up on the homescreen.
Also I can't login to the uni website. You should get a login popup but the android browser doesnt seem to be capable of this. Ofcourse this was no problem at all with a 2 year old browser... So now I can't check schedules and all.
Also there is no way to stream my favorite internet radio station.
Basically I pay 10 euro's a month for internet on my phone but all apps I regulairy use with internet don't work or only work a bit on android.
Don't get me wrong, I love the speed and all but what good is speed to me if I can't use most of the functions that are important to me? What is even more disturbing is that non of the things I want to do are very special. This should all just work but it seems to be far above what android is capable of.
Basically to me android is a disfunctional OS. If the above things would work, I'd love it but now all I got is speed, but no way of doing the things I want.
Nice try, but not quite it.

That's hardly Android error - it just seems to be a bug in the mail client app. Maybe yry another one?

It's not as simple as it sounds - android has to have an active data connection to enable IM messages as well as gmail imap notifications. Unlike POP3 e-mail accounts where you have to querry the server for new e-mails once in a while, gmail actually sends information to your phone when you get an email. And this wouldn't be possible if the connection was turned off.
And if you don't want to use gmail or gtalk, just disable background data in android's data sync settings and the 3g module won't eat your battery when unneeded. Don't worry, android is much smarter with power management than winMo and the fact that you didn't disable something by hand doesn't mean that it's eating your battery.
It's like GPS - even if it;s turned on in options/on power control wigdet the module isn't physically powered up until an app requests to use it. And when it's done the module powers down again. But still you see people disabling gps support in options after exiting maps believing that it will save some battery, or even requesting an app that would disable the switch on power control wigdet.
So just remember - it's a different OS, it has different rules and the fact that you did something by hand in winMo doesn't mean you have to do it here.

Again, this seems to be a problem with your rom/app version. I (and many other people) don't have any trouble with YT on android.
As for the HQ, it's turned on automatically when you're on wifi, on a gsm connection it defaults to standard quality. Personally i like this behavior but i agree that there should be an option to change that for people with huge/unlimited data plans.

Weird, but also not android bug, just the browser. You might want to try some alternatives (like dolphin, skyfire, opera mini)

Okay, and since when does WinMo display the agenda without any additional software? But i agree, htc really should make some "upcomming events" widget, and default android could use one as well. For now i use "CalWidget" and i know of "pure calendar widget" (paid). I don't know it they're compatible with sense but it may be worth a try

Well, seems to me that you don't really have a problem with android but you just got screwed by HTC and their customized version of android
If i were you, i'd just look for an unofficial rom. It might actually fix all your problems.
Also, part of your woes seems to be the fact that you knew winMo, knew the tweaks and apps you needed to make the device do what you want. Going over to android is a fresh start where you have to find out everything again. I know, i had similar feelings on a stock rom on my G1 after being a hardcore winMo user But after some research and grabbing a new rom and few extra apps android is way more functional than winMo for me and i don't feel like ever going back.
Just give it a chance and do some research.
Android platform has to mature a lot.
WM without xda is a hell.
You really need to find a new ROM. I've never had one single issue you're talking about.
Edit: And I'm using a myTouch running 1.6.

I know all that. But for me it does not seem to work perfectly. If I disable data connection always on (I never actually completely disable it), it still leaves it open. I checked overnight compared with just totally disabling it and it made a clear difference in the battery charge left. Its not like GPS where the icon actally dissapears when you don't use it but this doesnt happen with 3g so far as I can see it, it still uses more power than when disabling it.
I understand all the google stuff needs it, but I don't use any of it so for me its rather useless.

I reacherd a bit more and it seems to be a IIS and android problem. Wm and Iphone have the same problem but they just ignore the IIS message and continue. I tried Opera and it has the same problem. Btw, I think Opera on android is a long way off from Opera on WM. Still missing lots of functions I think.
IIS problem for the website login btw. Not sure why the exchange site doesnt save credentials but that seems to be misconfiguration. For example it wont even work on most desktop browsers either.

Maybe you are right. I know everything about WM and for me android still has a lot of things beneath its skin I don't know. If the apps I want exist I could fix some of my problems.
But some problems are just android related. The whole website thing is a combination of android and IIS configuration that don't play nice. Nothing HTC can do about this, nor can any custom rom. Its something google needs to fix. Ofcourse, if my uni would change their IIS settings it could also fix the problem but I don't think I can get them to change settings just for me.
For me that really needs to work because its a daily function for me.
Also I wonder if some things can be done. For example in WM you can just select to only use your provider. I still havn't found a way to completely disable roaming on android. Fortunatly its easy to prevent data roaming.
So since switching to my lovely N5, I've missed a few things I found baked into older versions of Android on my old Razr I.. I know that if I fiddle with the Accessibility/TalkBack settings in Kit Kat, I'll get some of the features I need, but I was hoping not to have to go with the full talkback functionality if possible, so I was wondering if any of the good folks here had recommendations of good/stable apps to do the following?
An app that uses TTS to do caller ID and SMS announcements - e.g. for when I'm driving..
A reliable and configurable app for auto answering calls..
Ideally the ability for these apps to activate or shut down when paired/not paired to a specific bluetooth device (e.g. like Car Home Ultra) would be awesome.. I could get tasker involved at a pinch, but native support for this would be easier
I appreciate that if I look at the play store, there are a LOT of free and paid apps that cover the basic requirements - but XDA has always been my go-to source for reliable recommendations, and if I'm honest the reviews for most of the ones I can find are all over the place

I shall certainly give that a go on my drive home!
Thanks for the heads up
Unfortunately, Utter was a little too unpredictable for me - when used in conjunction with my bluetooth car unit anyway...
I'm trying Free Car Mode
..which seems to be a single app that does both auto answer and SMS announce - in fact it may be the only app on the play store that does both.. (irritatingly it has an annoying quirk of always going back to it's main screen whenever an SMS is read out, kinda defeating the "hands free" requirement if I'm already in a navigation app.. but hey ho, its free so I can't complain too much - I've mentioned it in my Google Play review, so you never know.. the developer may implement it

Ah, bummer. There's also AVX.
Yeah, I saw that.. no worries, a "personal assistant" app may have been overkill anyway. Free Car Mode seems to be doing the job - it's a pain to manually launch before each drive, but I've added it as a button to Car Home Ultra and just have to manually enable/disable before each drive
I have Google Assistant, it responds to "Ok Google" even from a locked phone. I have 7.0, play services 11.0.55.
I want my incoming texts announced with voice when connected to Bluetooth, headset or my Cadillac Cue. Cue puts a written message up on my IP cluster allowing me to ignore or read it, my headset which I use much of the day only has a notification tone.
I cannot find where I could personalize the text tone so I can determine if I need to wash my hands and handle my phone to view an incoming text, like you can with a ringtone. I have no way to determine who the text is from apart from looking at the display, which is in my pocket.
I admit I came from Windows Mobile (reluctantly) because my job required I use an app that is not available on Windows (surprise). I prefer to not carry two phones, so I purchased a Huawei Mate 9, forward the calls from the work phone to mine, have the app on my phone too, and to be fair it is a great device.
What annoys me is Windows has had these features since Windows Phone 7.5. I have read where Allo is supposed to do this but so far no joy. I have Googled this a lot and as large a base as Android is there is not much in the lines of a comprehensive guide for how to use Google Assistant, and help here would be greatly appreciated.
If I get this working I might even sell my Windows Phones....LOL
Google Assistant is still fresh and can't really do much. I read somewhere that apple's shiri assistant can read you your messages including who are they from. If that is what you really nead you should look into it.

Thanks,
I am unsure if Siri is able to that either, but thanks for the input. I expected the problem was my unfamiliarity with the Android OS, not it's lack of ability.
