I like to run stock Google apps, like Google Messages, and Google Calendar, etc.... Can those be dark themed when applying a full system theme ?
Like here are some Substratum themes, that are supposed to work on the S8, like this one;
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brit.swiftdark.substratum&hl=en
Since this Theme is made for Nexus / Pixel phones running stock Android, as well as now made to work for the Galaxy S8 / Note 8 line. Can this theme darken everything installed on the phone ? The Samsung apps, as well as any stock Google apps installed on the S8 ?
I don't own a S8+ yet, but thinking of getting one, and this Swift Dark theme is my fav theme. Just want to make sure it themes both the Samsung apps as well the Google apps.
Can I ask a big favor from someone here please? Someone install this theme and see if it themes Android messages or Google Calendar Etc
Did some YouTube searching last night, and it seems Substratum does allow theming of Google apps you install, like Google Calendar, but will also theme the phones stock Samsung Calendar as well.
Is that true ?
71 views and no replies. I guess no one here themes their phone ?
It will do that. YouTube it

SO after rooting my OnePlus i had to flash install my google apps, unfortunatly the default messenger app that comes stock with the one plus is also gone, this is very important for me because its the only messenger app(from my knowledge) that can be customized with my purchased themes i have. Changing messaging themes does not work on 3rd party messenger applications so i cant download any from play store either! ANY HELP?
THANKS!
Extract the APK from a zipped ROM and install as normal app.
Why don't you try Google Messenger
I'm pretty sure you will love the material design, blends in with almost any theme you install.
I would also recommend Textra, pretty much stock based, but with plenty of material design, theming and customisation options.

I prefer " Google Messenger " for texting, over the stock Messages that the Note 5 uses by default. But I am running the ' Dark Material ' theme, and installing Google Messenger is all white, and sort of blinding after everything else being so nice and dark with the theme.
Does anyone have an .apk of an inverted or dark themed Messenger ? Can I use one found on a different phone, like a themed Messenger from the Nexus 5 or 6 ? or does it need to be specifically made for the Note 5 ?
Also one other question. How do I set Google Messenger to be the default text app ? I know when installing ti the first time, it asks if I want to use it as the main sms app. But when I would miss a text, I still shows the Samsung Messages Heads Up notification on the location.

They both have heads up notifications. So if you're using Google Messenger as your main text app then you are seeing Google Messenger heads up notifications. But if not...go to the Google Messenger app....then to settings...and it will be right there at the top

Thanks. And do I need to do anything to completely stop the stock Samsung Messages from showing Heads Up ? I basically want that app turned off, and just use Google Messenger only. I want Google Messenger to show up on the lock screen only.

Yes that worked, thanks.
Does anyone have a dark mod / inverted Google Messenger .apk ?
Messenger so much better than stock but would love a dark theme
Sorry to hijack the thread, OP. Are you able to send and receive MMS through Google Messenger? Thanks.
I too am looking for a blacked out theme
Ill try to theme out the latest google messenger apk. Itll most likely be a material dark gray color with white text.

Heads up notification will get rid of all pop ups but I think you have to be rooted. I use it and it works well. For dark themed apps use Darth stalkers rom

I'm using the Google Now launcher on my S7, and it along with a Marshmallow theme from the Samsung theme store has given the phone a nice stock Android look. Unfortunately, the icon pack included along with the Marshmallow theme hasn't applied on GNL. I know GNL doesn't natively support icon packs but has anyone figured out a workaround for this? The TouchWiz icons stand out otherwise. And when I say icon packs, I mean in the app drawer too, not just modded shortcuts on the home screen.
In case you have root you can use Xposed and the XGEL module to use a different icon pack:

Otherwise (i.e. without root) I would recommend a launcher like Nova.
I'm not rooted.

Use Nova Launcher. You can set it up to look exactly like GEL, but it's more functional and performs better. You can use Google Opinion Rewards to build up a couple of £/$ to cover the cost of "Prime" but it's not necessary.
Fyi for anyone googling this or looking for this still. I had my s7 edge display scaling set to condensed to fit more on the screen. Once I changed it back to standard (with the material Samsung theme applied) and rebooted the correct icons appeared. Could be that the change forces the launcher to recreate icons or clear it's cache etc.
Also, stock android lovers, install good lock from the galaxy app stores to bring the stock android notification shade and status bar into your s7. Got a very stock feel now with Samsung material theme, Google now launcher and good lock.
Hope this helps someone.
So switch your display scaling after setting your theme should flush the icons ??
The Samsung Theme store on the S7E is different from what was on my Note 7. It only has themes, no tab for wallpapers or icon downloads, and the 'purchased' area doesn't show any wallpapers I previously had downloaded on my N7, just the themes.
Any way to access the full Samsung Theme store on my S7E? I didn't think to save my wallpapers I had downloaded as I figured they'd be accessible on the S7E in the theme store.
Otherwise, I guess I'll have to wait for the big update coming around December when we get Nougat and Grace UI, etc for the theme store to be more similar to the N7...
This is edge ux. That was grace ux.

Root, twrp then install a note 7 ported ROM. Lots to choose from. I like it very much coming from a note 7.

Root and flash Jesse's Note 7 port
I use Google Messages app for my mms/sms and I've downloaded it from the Play Store and I've noticed that they've made a special version for One UI when it's installed on a S22 Ultra, specifically the contact icons are a (awful) pastel gradient color. I prefer the regular non-One UI version with more vibrant icons that aren't gradient. So I installed an older version of the normal APK from APKPure app and it went back to normal, but in the Play Store prompted for updates and as I feared it updated to the One UI version again.
So my question is, is there a way to force which version I have on the phone without having to override it again with an update? Those pastels are just awful looking!
