swipe down to going back - Samsung Gear S3

Just updated my gear s3 r760, all fine, new tizen it's very nice, minimalist and clean... But I can't going back swiping from top, it pull down panel every time... I searched for an option but I didn't find nothing... Has Samsung removed this gesture??

Noticed that as well. I had gotten quite use to that feature. Hope there is a way to enable it

Same here. Would really like to know why, and if there's a way to re-enable it.. :-/

Hope it is only a mistake... Was really useful, now I see every time the control panel... ? ? tonight will try to write to Samsung for an answer maybe if more people write to them they will listen us... Maybe...

Left handers left out in the Tizen experience.
So annoying. As someone who wears their watch on my right hand, this now makes the watch even more awkward to use as now we have to reach over the watch unnaturally to press the back or home buttons to go back. I wrote a forum post at Android Central about how Samsung/Tizen should look to Apple for how to take care of the 10% of their users that are left handed and wear their watch on their right wrist. I sincerely hope someone finds a way to either enable us to flip the watch (like you can on an Apple Watch) so the buttons face the correct/user friendly way, or allow users to re-enable this swipe down to go back feature that has been a part of Tizen for years.

I'm not left handed but I wear my watch on right wrist because I feel better so... And now as you say it is really annoying... Hope they fix this little issue soon...

You'll find that setting in s health on your gear, go to heart rate, click the three dots on the right and you can set to never, every 10 minutes or always. For me they had to add something like every one hour or personalized to user liking...

Unbelievable to me too. I would trade ALL of the new features (and I like them) just to have the 'swipe down to go back' feature again. I don't know how removing that feature got past usability testing.

I think they removed it so the button will break down faster and you will have to get a new watch eventually.....

I need this function, too! Cannot use my watch properly anymore. I don't want to be pushing buttons, I liked the watch 5x better when it was 100% swipable.

I find it rather amusing that I don't know what swipe down to go back feature you guys are talking about.in the first place.

I am very disappointed and will get rid of this watch soon if this feature does not come back soon. The swipe down made using the watch more fluid- imo

I never liked that feature. I always wanted to swipe down like I do on my phone. It's taken some getting used to, but I really like the new implementation.

I bought the Gear S3 primarily because I loved how you could swipe down from any screen and go back without having to press a physical button. I stupidly updated the Gear software and now the major reason to like this watch is removed. I, like a dummy, bought the Gear S3 at T-Mobile and now I'm paying like $15 a month for a smartwatch that I hate to use. I'm just venting because this is extremely frustrating.
This watch is going to be paid off and then sold on Craigslist or just tossed into the garage. I hate this thing now.

Before tizen 3, we can use swipe gesture to navigate back in every screen, now Samsung had removed it and we have to use phisical button... Not a big deal, but after some years we used to going back with this gesture, it's like restart from zero... It took some days to habit to new method, and every time I pulled down notification panel instead of simply going back... That's it

You guys should have read the changelog before updating.
It's stated clearly right there that swipe down now opens the panel on all screens.

That's thread is actually pretty funny.

[Q] Clock App With Live Tile Support?

Hello All,
I have been searching for a minute now and have had Zero luck. Is there an app that will give me just a clock on the main screen? Like a clock app that actually supports live tiles and will show me the time? Trying to find the time on windows phone 7 has proven to be a pain in the rear unless I wait for the phone to lock itself. Today's date, and a simple clock are really all I am looking for but it seems no one has created an app with this basic functionality...
The only way to do a clock live tile would be to send updates once a second/minute, which would be kind of ridiculous. If someone is going to do this, it'll need to be Microsoft.
Isn't the time always displayed at the top of the homescreen?
Or once a minute? Is there any other way to make the thing show date and time outside of the lock screen? Still new to this thing, but besides a few drawbacks (no date/time screen, sms messages do not auto retry after failing to send) I like it. Just figured some of my issues would have already been solved at this point in the life cycle.
Edit:

Indeed it is and until you mentioned it I had never noticed it. It's really tiny, but sure enough it's up there. Now I feel silly
If you want to see the date, I guess you can just pin your calendar to the home screen for now.
They should realy make something like this:
(of course the time doesn't correspond to the time in the top right corner^^)
I don't understand why you'd want this for a couple of reasons:
1. At the home screen, tapping the top of the screen brings up the time
2. The Calendar app shows the date
3. If I ever want to see what time it is, I just unlock my phone and look at the lock screen. It's unnecessary to go into the home screen. If the top time is too small for you, just lock and unlock your device quickly.

GO Launcher EX users beware

I love my Thunderbolt. And, until yesterday I loved Go Launcher EX. But that changed.
I had an emergency. I won't go into details but if any of you have been in an emergency then you know that you need to act quick to quell the onset of panic.
I pulled out my Thunderbolt. It was bright daylight. Hard to see the display. I normally have the brightness set at 30% to save battery. So it took a few seconds for me to find the icon I keep on the home page to change the brightness from the normal 30% to the full 100%.
Whew! I found it and could now see the screen clearly. I need to call 911 as panic is starting to build up.
I have Go Launcher Ex installed and love its flexibility. On the bottom of the phone Go Launcher EX installs 5 icons. The first one is phone, the next one contacts, etc.
I look at the bottom row. Instead of phone, contacts, etc. I see 5 icons but they are all the same. They are all just a large + sign. (That's Plus Sign).
Pressing on them takes me to, I think, a configuration screen of some kind. I don't really remember now because panic is starting to set in since I can't dial 911, or anything else for that matter. I CAN'T GET TO MY FRIGGIN' PHONE. HELP ME, I'm thinking. What the eff is going on here. How do I solve this? Quick, think of something! FAST! NOW! HELP ME!
I do the only thing I know how to do to fix the phone. I hold down the power button and press RESET. Panic is swelling. I know it will take a minute or so for the phone to reset but the worst fear is that I still won't be able to use the phone if GO Launcher EX is still acting up.
During the reboot time I try to calm myself. I try to think of how to kill Go Launcher EX and get back to the HTC stock page. Do I go into settings and delete in the app? How the heck do I get into settings if the buttons don't work? HELP ME!
Finally, after what seemed to be an hour but was only probably 90 seconds or so, the phone lock screen is displayed. I swipe it down with anxiety hoping I don't see five plus signs and hoping it's back to normal. I can see the normal icons including the phone icon. Whew! what a relief. I press the phone icon but it says no coverage. I try to stay calm. I press the phone icon again and now I have coverage. I can make the call.
I gotta tell you that my hands were shaking and I was a nervous wreck for about an hour but everything turned out OK.
It did make me think of how dangerous it is to rely upon third party apps on such a critical piece of equipment. Having said that I'm hoping this was just one oddball anomaly and, for now, I'm keeping Go Launcher EX installed and running. But, I gotta ask, has anyone else seen this with Go Launcher EX?
It sounds like you accidently swiped the dock. Go Launcher by default includes three docks. When I slide between them, the other two show as a row full of "+"'s
That's correct u can go to dock settings in go launcher and set the number of docks from 3 to 1 then u won't have that problem again
Yeah sorry but sounds like user error in your panic, not sure how you used go launcher very long and never found that feature. Launcher Pro has same feature and you could put your dialer in every slot if you wanted

Thanks so much for your reply. I just reread my post and my heart rate went up again. Your suggestion has a calming effect.
Hopefully, this thread will make back to the developers of Go Launcher EX and they'll set the default to 1 instead of 3.
Whew!
Edit: It's crystal clear what happened now that I can reproduce it. However, I didn't know about the dock and during a time of crisis couldn't fix it. I've now set my dock rows to 1 and that corrected the behavior. I wouldn't want anyone that needed to use my phone to save ME in an emergency to run into the same problem.

The first time this happened to me w/Launcher Pro I had ZERO clue wtf just happened to my icons, lol, full on panic, but not during a 911 crisis thank goodness.
My friend had the same issue. He accidentally swiped and was pulling his hair out trying to fix it.
This is why I stopped using ADW, the launcher would randomly disappear (I must have bumped it wrong) and could *NOT* figure out how to bring it back (even resetting wouldn't). I haven't had this issue with Launcher Pro thankfully.

I tried swing around where it should be to bring it back and it never did come back up. I couldn't find an option to disable it either. At this point I paid for Launcher Pro anyways so I wouldn't go back to ADW.

Thanks, that's a good tip.
Unfortunately, in the heat of panic somehow all logic and learned tips just seem to fly out the window.
I have a "feature phone" (non smart phone) that was sitting in the center console of my car. I use it exclusively to connect to my Ford Sync. It never occurred to me, during the heat of panic, to open up the center console and use that phone. A couple of days later I slapped my forehead with the palm of my hand when I thought about that.

That happens to the best of us, glad to hear everything is okay for you.
If you go into the GoLauncher preferences and select Exit or Restart (can't remember which) it automatically removes itself as the default launcher. So you can hit the home button and select another launcher.

Question for people?
The Sammobile review stated
"Hangouts only lets you open the app on the connected phone and doesn’t let you send any emoticon or respond via voice actions. "
This has not been my experience personally. At least I think. I don't use Hangouts much, but the one time I did, I thought I had all the response options available to me. Can anyone confirm?
The Google apps have been integrated really well as far as i can see.
Where did sammobile get hangouts?

The frustrating part of the new watch is where should I download apps? The Galaxy Apps store doesn't seem to have anything for Google Hangouts, and the Gear Apps store doesn't list anything either.
So where are people getting anything for Hangouts?
I don't need a lot from the watch, but the ability to be notified when gmail arrives or a hangout message appears is essential, else I have to go back to the Urbane, and I don't think I want to because the S2's bezel interface is too cool.

I'm not using any app for Gmail or Hangouts. Under my notifications settings on the Gear phone app i have Gmail and Hangouts turned on for notifications. Anytime I get an email or message I receive a notification on my watch. I then have options to read and respond, including voice dictation, emojis, predetermined text responses, and a written response via T9 keyboard.
Just got an email back from support. Inside the "Gear" app, under notifications is gmail, hangouts, and a bunch of other applications I can enable/disable. I've pasted the gist below.
Generally, to get the notification of the application on your Gear S2, please follow below steps on your phone which is connected/paired to your Gear S2 device.
a) From the home screen tap on the Applications/Apps tab.
b) Tap on the “Samsung Gear” application from the list.
c) Tap on the “Manage notifications” option from the list.
d) Now, mark the check boxes next to the notifications you want to receive(GMail) on your Gear S2 device.
e) Then tap on “OK” to continue.

I bought mine from Best Buy a few days ago after going to several stores and calling over a dozen of them. If you call in, they will be very unreliable and won't tell you if they actually have the watch (or, to put it another way, they'll tell you "no" even if they do have it). You have to go to the Internet orders desk and they'll help you locate one at another store. And they'll only help you if no one else is in line. In my area, I got the last one.
So here are my impressions having only owned the original Pebble Watch for a few days. Overall, I'm quite disappointed.
- There are no apps in their store. Seriously, there's like 100 total, most of them useless, and most of them you have to pay for. Most of those apps are watchfaces.
- You can barely customize the default watchfaces. Only one of them allows you to have a digital watchface with the time, day, and date. Even then, the fonts and colors are limited, and only apply to the time itself. I want a detailed watch face program that lets me put on that home screen whatever data I want, looking like how I want.
- The screen turns on when you do not intend it to, which is very distracting since you see a flash of light and think there's a notification. You can turn it off, but this makes the watch less useful. If you're in a dark room, or in bed, or driving, the light is VERY distracting too.
- Battery lasts 1.5 to less than 2 days (with very little use). With heavy use, you won't get through a day. It takes 2 hours to fully charge from 0%, which isn't bad. Be careful that you know it's charging before you go to bed or you'll wake up to a dead watch - it's very easy not to line it up correctly.
- The wheel should have been a clickwheel. You still have to touch the screen for anything. Although they tout the rotating as a huge feature, this seems a little half-ass. You still have to constantly touch the screen.
- No speaker. You can't take phone calls. Although I knew this when I bought it, it really is a huge letdown once you start using it. Especially when you're home and running around the house.
- The vibrating is so weak you barely notice it. If you're running or walking, you definitely will not notice it.
- The Bluetooth range isn't very far. I was in the shower, with my phone in the adjacent bedroom, and it always loses its connection.
- The notifications disappear once you receive them. I can't go back and read them.
- The notifications don't clear on your Galaxy phone after you've played with them on your watch. So if you use your watch all day, you'll open your phone to tons of notifications that you have to clear.
- Many notifications could just be displayed on the watch, but they make you go to your phone for them.
- Compared to some of the other watches I saw at Best Buy, the design is pretty boring and definitely not eye-grabbing. The screen is much smaller than you think, but this might be why the battery is better than other watches. You don't mind the small screen after a while.
- Again, there's no apps. You can't really do much with this watch beyond the very basics.
- There's not much to play with or customize.
Overall, it feels more "gimmick" than useful. But maybe that's all smartwatches in general? I wanted to love it, but I really don't like it.

I want to start by saying I've only had the moto 360 as a smart watch and can only base the following on that.
Where are you located, the day of launch, all the best buy stores I called had the sport in black, but I'm waiting on the classic.
As a 360 owner, I don't think I stuck with any of the apps I downloaded, just stock was fine as it's an extension of the phone so notifications was the main thing and voice commands, primarily everything I do can be done through Google Now. The update of Hangouts was really nice though since it can be pulled up without having to get a message. but that's android wear, back to this. What apps are you looking for you feel should be available?
I think you'll have to wait for people to release a custom watch face maker like "facer" (android wear) in order to get to that level of customization. From my experience, I've tried a lot of faces that resemble real watches and custom designs, I went back to the analog watch face with a custom picture, keeping it simple was the best for me as I didn't want it to look too busy.
Is there no light sensor? also if you get a notification, wouldn't it vibrate?
the clickwheel idea would be a good improvement for the next one. it would make the selection a bit easier, rather than using your finger, but then it would defeat the purpose of having a touch screen too. which if that were the case could potentially save A LOT of battery life.
the non-3G versions don't have a speaker. I believe the 3G one does (source needed)
I think that is across the board with all watches, I notice mine sometimes but other times if I'm moving around I never notice it as I'm focused on something else, unless it's a call which is repetitive vibrations. Doesn't bother me though as I'll flick my wrist to see if there are any notifications.
the material between the wall and bedroom can significantly weaken the bluetooth range, though I've gotten a good 20-25 ft (under estimating a little) with my 360 from my phone.
notifications disappearing; what do you mean? They pop up once and then disappear without you dismissing them?
Just got my classic today, I'm not having this issue unless I manually remove the notification (swipe up)
I'm hoping the clearing of the notifications is just a glitch, though I recall that on the earlier Gear models as well. Android wear luckily doesn't have this issue.
Notifications are clearing on my end just fine, swipe up.
Compatibility for apps is still being worked on I'm sure. For example pandora on android wear use to work, now it doesn't any more; for songs it would be able to adjust volume, next, thumbs up/down. But now it doesn't work though I heard it's pandora's fault for not caring about it. What notifications are you not seeing on your watch that are on the phone?
I agree as far as the sport model goes, but the classic looks a lot better imo, as it has a wheel with ticks (nubs?) on them. I've seen the classic in person from a samsung rep and it does feel and look really nice. Coming from a gen 1 360, the smaller screen doesn't bother me as the watch is overall a bit smaller and I have smaller wrists so it's a win win.
Compared to your experience which you said you've only owned a pebble for a few days, have you used any smartwatch extensively?
His complaints about the notifications aren't because they randomly disappear. Its in comparison to Pebble. On a Pebble if you go to your notifications screen after they have all been dismissed it will show a log of your past notifications. On the S2 it just says there are no notifications. Its not a bug. He just wants a history of dismissed notifications to show up.

Got update for my Gear S3 to Tizen 3.0 - packed full of new stuff

Hi.
Got all of my 258.5MB of Tizen 3.0.0.1 update last night....and it's packed full of new stuff.
The update itself was a bit bumpy and took a while to get the watch back in use, including having to do a complete reset because the watch faces I has installed myself did not work. I have re-loaded some and they work okay. It gives you an option to order them differently (e.g. newest first), which is useful.
I have not yet been through everything and need to get used to (and happy with) some changes, but it seems to be working okay now. Also, it seems I have more storage than before; it shows 2.53GB / 4.0GB.
You can get a full list of new functions here:
Thanks.
Hi again.
Had a chance today to look at some of the new functions and here are a few highlights:
=> You can now share your custom watch faces with others from your watch, by sending a message to a contact in your list. I tried and it seems to work, however, I will still have to check if it arrived and in what form.
=> Since I had to reload my custom watch faces, I modified a few and did a re-build. In the previous version, this a was longer step because it would not always build the face on my watch first time and i had to try a few times before it would load. Now, its done first time and is super fast!
=> To view your watch faces, if you turn the bezel (left&right), the view shows more faces on the screen, albeit smaller in size, but its really cool and lets you select from the thumbnail view.
=> The functions are grouped a bit differently, and it tells you what's included (e.g. Settings; Watch faces & styles - gives a list of what's included, which is helpful when searching).
=> There's a new Watch Only option, which is supposed to give you many days of use on a single battery charge. However, the screen just shows a simple digital watch view and times-out quickly - not really useful other than for an emergency (say, if you are hiking / traveling / on a flight and can't get it re-charged easily for a few days).
=> the inner circle of the watch is being used much more to provide new info (e.g. with colour-coding & text to tell you what you've selected - say if a set an alarm for 6.00am, there is a blue circle going from 0-6 showing how much time if left. Nice feature.
=> I think I already mentioned before that you can choose to re-order your watch faces, so you either get the same as before, or you can choose to get the new ones created at the start of the list, even before the stock faces. Useful when you have created many and would need to skip through them all to get to your latest face.
Anyway, there's much more to look at, so I think that's all for now. I feel happier with this update, now that I have got over the hassle of having to reset and reload my watch faces, plus a no. of other steps I had to do on the Gear Designer.
Thanks.
(Apologies if there are any typos)
1 terrible new feature is missing from the lists:
turning the watch away now not only puts it in standby/AOD, but also dismisses open notification pop-up and marks them as read.
so now half the time I get a notification it's dismissed the moment I try to read it.
Another useful feature is gone! The back gesture! Now every time I want to go back in the menus I have to reach for the back button!
Any way around that?
So I just updated to this update. I am using the watch maker app to get watch faces. I applied the watch face I've been using for awhile and the watch face font automatically changes to the font I have set for the watch. Is there anyway to keep the font as is from the designer?
Another awful thing missing from this update is how they fail to mention that 3.0 also made the notifications folder "read only" and you can now no longer have custom notification tones; you're limited to ringtones only. Wtf? SMH.

Completley agree. I really like rest of the update. better design of infos, new "Status menu" fast access for example to audio and volume control and so on, but the deleted "back gesture" really kills me...
Tizen 3, S3 HRM and battery life
I gotta jump in on this. I've been a sammy user for many years, like most of you for sure. Phones mostly, a few major appliances, guitar (I think) and Gear S3.
Got the S3 in April. All was fine until August, '17. At that point the HRM went nutty most of the time. In S-health mode (all-the-time heart monitor during walk, run, ect. I'd walk 3mph walking my dog and HRM would record up to 205 BPM with a few reasonable periods around 90 BPM like I would expect from low exertion activity. Running 12 MPH same. Talked to the aweful sammy csr for warranty repair. Indian accent so thick you could tight rope on it. Huh? what? back and forth for 15 minutes. "Jesus, get me to someone I can understand", I was immediately transferred, and worked out the mechanics of the return quickly (If you cann sammy csr, unless you love punishment, as for a native English speaker). Sent it in, week later returned. Wore it on first workout: same-o, same-o.

Started over, this time skipping India all together. Sent it in with a note. Week later comes back with a note: The watch is functioning properly. My take on that is "get over it".
Pissed as hell I call again, telling them I don't appreciate the attitude. They can replace the watch or return my money. I was told to send it in. I said **** you and hung up. I can't tell you how bad I wanted to slam the phone down. Good ol' days.
I'm using the watch like normal ever thought the HRM is a total waste. I'm looking for a suitable replacement, but the S3 is on a level of it's own. Damned you Samsung!!!
Enter Tizen 3. Right away I hated the new "functions", but the batter life. Horrid!! Reset, turned off functions like bezel on feature, weather, notifications: I was getting 1.5 to 2 days charge rather than 3.5 to 4 says I was getting on T2.
Not taking this: Called sammy csr, asked for native English speaker, then manager. The csr was ver comforting, and I held back as much as possible, and I was civil, but I had to tell someone at sammy how jumbled-up this whole stupid smartwatch thing was making me. I told her I would not just box it up and send it in for the third time unless she could convincingly assure me I would get this resolved, for once and for all. She was apologetic and made some notes, suggesting I include a screenshot of the activity.
I boxed the goddamn with a two page note, four screenshot prints and a prayer they would either figure-out the problems (HRM & battery) or replace the watch, using Tizen 2 firmware (even if not replaced).
This is where I am at the moment, waiting for the verification email that their service department received my device.
I've read other posts specifically related to decimated battery after flashing Tizen 3, but no one on this thread, up to now, has mentioned it.
You guys having battery issues? If so, how are you addressing these?
How's everything now?

bypass fingerprint lock?

So I was messing around with some settings today and using the double tap power button to launch camera from either ambient display or the lock screen. Well that's all fine and dandy and it works but I also let's anyone unlock your phone cause once in camera app you can hit the home button or back button and it'll allow access to the phone in its entirety. Kinda a fail set up. Hopefully fixed. Truly IDC caus no one uses my phone that I don't trust and I NEVER leave it anywhere that I feel wouldn't be safe. Let alone on table at Starbucks or a bar like I see sooo many people do.
All input is welcome on this subject
i couldn't get mine to unlock, but then again I am using Navigation Gestures not the Nav Bar
Nevermind I'm a retard, but as I stated I was messing around with settings today. I set the "on body" to keep device unlocked. Lol live and learn right?

Honestly I really really wanted to use the gestures, make things feel new and all coming from my old phone but truly I can't they are too show. I always use the double tap recent to almost instantly go back to last open app and switching apps is world's faster this way.

I've never heard such kind of gestures. Which phone/magisk module was that ? Google pixel ?
I also use gestures but once my thumb is on the top half of the phone it's a long way to reach the bottom of the screen [emoji2356]
So I couple it with pie controls

I use pie controls as well. All phones with Oreo and above have the option to double tap the recents button and it will instantly switch back to the last app open. Say I'm in Facebook and leave to Samsung browser. If I double tap quickly on the recent apps button. I can switch back and forth very quickly between the 2 apps.
