bypass fingerprint lock? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

So I was messing around with some settings today and using the double tap power button to launch camera from either ambient display or the lock screen. Well that's all fine and dandy and it works but I also let's anyone unlock your phone cause once in camera app you can hit the home button or back button and it'll allow access to the phone in its entirety. Kinda a fail set up. Hopefully fixed. Truly IDC caus no one uses my phone that I don't trust and I NEVER leave it anywhere that I feel wouldn't be safe. Let alone on table at Starbucks or a bar like I see sooo many people do.
All input is welcome on this subject

i couldn't get mine to unlock, but then again I am using Navigation Gestures not the Nav Bar

Nevermind I'm a retard, but as I stated I was messing around with settings today. I set the "on body" to keep device unlocked. Lol live and learn right?

Honestly I really really wanted to use the gestures, make things feel new and all coming from my old phone but truly I can't they are too show. I always use the double tap recent to almost instantly go back to last open app and switching apps is world's faster this way.

I've never heard such kind of gestures. Which phone/magisk module was that ? Google pixel ?
I also use gestures but once my thumb is on the top half of the phone it's a long way to reach the bottom of the screen [emoji2356]
So I couple it with pie controls

I use pie controls as well. All phones with Oreo and above have the option to double tap the recents button and it will instantly switch back to the last app open. Say I'm in Facebook and leave to Samsung browser. If I double tap quickly on the recent apps button. I can switch back and forth very quickly between the 2 apps.

[APP] Lock 2.0 unusable on Nexus One

I have had the payed version of Lock 2.0 since there was an option to buy but since I got my Nexus One it has now become pretty much unusable. The sad part is that it is better than the lock button that is on the top of the phone cause it lets you bring up the lock screen by pressing your track ball. I love all the different back grounds and sounds you can download and how they stay in a folder and not in your app draw (which is really annoying). Now the thing I don't like is that when you press the volume buttons when the phone is locked you can and will turn down or up the volume on accident and this is why this app is now unusable. Can it really be that hard to add an option to disable these buttons? I have emailed Android Apps and they say the reason the volume button does that is for when you are listening to music and thats great but whats the use if when you get a call or text and you can't hear it cause you turned the volume down to 0 on accident. I emailed them today again and asked if they could update their app and I hope they do. The reason I started this thread is so anybody could comment on this problem with I have to say is probably my second favorite app on the market. I will also email them a link to this thread so they can see what everybody thinks. One more thing on another lock app LockBot when you press the volume button the sound does not get turned down but I don't want to really pay for two apps that can do the same thing. Edit: OK they fixed it but their is a new problem with the home button.

What rom are you using?
Cyanogens latest has an option for trackball wake-up (and of course that mod can be applied to other roms as well) if that is indeed the biggest thing about it you like. I personally never saw the need to change my lockscreen from stock, but can understand why some people do.
I am using the stock rom, I didn't want to root this phone since you void your warranty and mine is pretty messed up I should get a replacement this week. Also I am glad Cyanogen added that and that tells you it is a problem in the stock or he wouldn't have had to improve on it. So people like me only have the option of downloading an app to get the same results. Also I have used a rooted phone before, I had been using my Google Ion rooted for about 6 months before I got my Nexus One.
Ok I just got an email from the developer and they have disabled the volume buttons by default on the new version that was fast. Now there is a weird problem where even after you set the Launcher as the default for your home button it still keeps opening Lock 2.0, its really annoying but I already told them so I'm sure they will fix it. Now if only Google would respond like this for their "Support Forums" on fixing the 3G and Touchscreen problems the world would be a better place.
I understand the issue with the volume keys. I don't listen to music so i installed the app (ringer mode locker) by kaa from the market. It overrides the system setting and locks on your choose of settings: vibrate, ringer silent etc. If you volume up or down it stays on you set point. I like if because it is not a background app using extra battery trying to monitor a set point.

Please don't critisize Google like this, 3G issues and Touchscreen problems are not simple applications in which code can be modified to turn off the "Volume" buttons.. I've noticed the employees on their forums try to solve things to the best of their abilities - but Google can not just correct everything as if it takes a small flick of the wrist, or click of a mouse...
Honestly I don't see how they will fix any 3G issue entierly without modifiying the insides of the phone.. guess I dont know enough about phones to make such a conclusion anyways.

I emailed them about this a couple of weeks ago. I told them exactly that and I got a "Steve Jobs-like" response lol..
"Something is wrong with your phone."
I even posted about it a couple of times in the Q&A section but got no responses. I'm glad to see someone on a stock ROM is experiencing the same issue because I thought it was due to using CM. Are you using an auto task-killer?

Get "KeyGuard disabler" from the market. It costs 1.49 but does exactly what you want. I'm sure there are free versions of similar software too but this is only one i've ever tried.

wow dude just tried it! works perfect! thanks man!
Meh....
After installing and trying to use it, I finally gave up. It has the potential to be by far one of the best android apps. The developer has designed programs that mesh with android so natively that I am jealous of his understanding. But even after a few reinstallations, this program never delivered. A replacement lockscreen must be more than just pretty. It wasn't sized right for the Nexus One screen and constantly froze "Updating List", even when I was just trying to unlock. The "Updating List" freeze causes a loop that just recalled the freeze when I hit home. There is no escape short of hitting menu, more, home, then selecting my home screen program. I would consider that a lock screen fail if I have to navigate a menu to select a home screen instead of sliding the sexy little slider over. I hate taking refunds from the market, but Lock 2.0 needs more work. If I see anyone saying it has been adjusted for the N1 screen and the home bug has been fixed, I'll buy it again, but until then, I'll stick with the just weather and toggle widgets.
I hear that Lock 2.0 disables notifications on the Nexus One. Does anybody know of any apps thats just as attractive as Lock 2.0 that doesn't disable notifications or freeze.. etc.. (something iphone-ish i guess)
Any news about the home button bug bypassing the lock screen in Lock 2.0?
As far as a can tell its been working good and the dev added the option to clear the home screen default if it does it again. Its pretty sad that he left it messed up for months until I sent him the link to this thread.

Thanks, but I was referring to another bug (unless I'm totally mistaken):
When you turn on your nexus and you're still on Lock 2.0 lock screen, if you press the home button, it unlocks the phone without having to use the slider.
Hope this was clear...

Auto Hide Taskbar

Hey bro i get this app from the market Honeybar it work great with root access.
I work with touchwiz work 100%.
Program tested MX Video Player,Dolphin Browser HD.
It works well and I suggest using Button Savior in conjunction. Barely seen my taskbar in a week
Works pretty well, main problems I have with it are accidentally re-enabling the taskbar in games (tapping near the bottom), and also accidentally hiding it when trying to hit the 'menu' button in portrait mode. They're too close together so it's hard to avoid hitting it.
I asked the author about the possibility of other trigger locations, or gestures, and he responded but didn't sound like he planned to do anything soon.
I installed HB myself, and although it is nice in some ways to get the taskbar (I use that reference with tongue'in'cheeck) out of the way, there are too many apps I have that place "menu" in the location of the hidden button even when I set it to shift left. Many apps I have to rotate to landscape to get to the apps settings menu hidden behind the shift-left positioning for HB. It's just not a sound UI choice.
The option to just leave the taskbar hidden and use Button Savior is better, but it's like using one hack to make another one work halfway correctly in its effects. HB needs more development and it doesn't look like it's going to happen as of now.

Thanks very much for your info. Yeah... this Button Savior is a real true name in case of the HoneyBar's gone somewhere..
Problem I see with using Button Savior all the time is that you do lose the notifications.. and then it's still easy to accidentally bring back the real bar when playing games etc. Oh well.

I don't know about the games... the notification is hiding except the sound but the real trouble is when the call is coming.... you have to activate the task bar to bring back the panel "Answer or Denied" (!!!)
FYI

I did indeed get quite angry at the loss of notifications but I was able to (sort of) get around that by changing the screen density to 171 using Blade Buddy. This set me back to a 2.x launcher.
It doesn't really work 100% however as browser, Gmail, Google Talk will constantly crash. I was able to work around the browser by just getting another browser and Gmail by uninstalling the Honeycomb version of Gmail and installing the Gingerbread version. I didn't care enough to do anything more than uninstall Google Talk.
On the positive side I no longer have to deal with the taskbar. Ever.

Does the Gingerbread version have the Gingerbread UI? i.e. without the multi-paned stuff? I tried loading a Gingerbread version a while back but it didn't work (just crashed). I prefer Gingerbread style -- more room for the content rather than lists of labels.

Yes this is exactly my only issue with honeybar. it would be nice if we could choose the right side as the "offset". Even in portrait I have space just to the right of center that would allow access to honeybar on/off and not interfere with the menu on a lot of apps.
There's a much better way to do this. Using tasker, I have a profile set up that auto hides the toolbar for certain apps and then restores it automatically when I switch away from them.
Follow the instructions in this thread:

Yes but how do you switch away from them?
That is actually what I am trying to figure out how to do. I am trying to set it up when in specific apps it takes away the task bar but also only within these apps after something... (haven't really figured that out yet) happens it will bring it back for an exit. In a perfect world I would love to be able to press both volume buttons to close an app. Which in this case would be perfect but tasker can't do that...
I'm using task switcher pro. It lets you map a gesture to the back button or home button.
Sent from my GT-P6210 using Tapatalk
what might be cool is to "shake" device to bring back the bar.
you guy also can use AutomateIt... kind of like tasker but to me it more friendly user...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123423
and the pro version is cheaper too...
Using tasker I did manage to make the bar go away by shaking. Instead of setting programs to do it make it toggle the bar by using a shake. I don't have it in front of me to do step by step but if someone wants me to I can put it up.
I would most certainly love to see that "How too" Zadeis.
Thanks.

OK the link smaug408 put up leads to a guide on how to set up a task that when an App starts it will remove the bar at the bottom. The thing is though you no longer have a back button and get out of the app unless it has a dedicated exit button.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301857
I take no credit for the premade files for tasker. The thanks goes to the creator Quietthinker through that link.
-First Open the link and download the attached StatusBarToggle.zip and place the files into /sdcard/Tasker/tasks (in this case you will only need the StatusBarToggle.tsk.xml, the StatusBar_Hide.tsk.xml, and the StatusBar_Show.tsk.xml files)
-Second open tasker and go to the "tasks tab" and tap and hold the Tasks Tab at the top. An options window will come up but select Import and import all of them into tasker
-Third go to the profiles tab and tap the Green plus at the left and give it a name. ShakeToToggle can work but you can name it whatever you like.
A context window will popup and you will select Event and then the Sensor Category and finally select the Shake Event.
You can mess around with the setting for the shake gesture now or tweak it in to your liking after everything is set up up to you.
-Forth once you have the setting you like press the green check mark, select the StatusBarToggle task and you are done. Now when you shake your tablet side to side it will make the status bar go away.
Now I just happened to figure out that you can shake instead of using an app for the context. I take little credit for how this works.
This method requires Super User Permissions. It will ask on the first toggle of the bar if you allow it to remember it afterward, if not it will ask each time.
Great app. Works perfectly

[Q] LockScreen & DoubleTap

Is there any secret to making this work better to wake up the phone. I cannot seem to hit it right to get it to unlock. Sensitivity adjust?
I like the phone otherwise.
Tap the screen quickly and firmly in the same spot two times. I have no problems with it using that method.
Train wreck for me. Double tap is horrible! I started a return through Amazon, wondering if I should try a replacement first though. I have huge lag issues too on this phone.
I am having the problem with tap to open too. There are many reviews on Amazon detailing the same thing. I sent an email to Alcatel support asking if they would be addressing this issue. I am still deciding if I want to keep the phone.
Last couple of days I have had more instances of misses with this than I had the first couple of days. But still I feel I have had better luck with the double-tap.... than many others over here so far. Usually a firm tap, with your fingers bent and the fingernails almost hitting the glass, works pretty well. But at times, even a firm tap will not work, and I have noticed that un-setting the option ( in Settings -> Gestures ) and then setting it back again gets it going again. This and the lag with loading apps may be related , and I hope Alcatel release a 5.1 update soon.
I've only had an issue with this once and a reboot fixed it. I think in some cases people are not hitting the screen firmly and quickly. Also the may not be hitting the same spot as well. I have seen other phones that use the knock unlock gesture but with a knock code and maybe some people thought they could hit the screen where ever they wanted between the 2 knocks. I'm just guessing here.

I believe I have found the root cause of the problem. Right after I got the phone I installed Nova Launcher. I started playing around and tried switching back to the stock launcher. Immediately the double tap feature started to work consistently. Hopefully it will STAY working and Nova will update their launcher to support the double tap feature fully.

I doubt if the launcher is the issue. When the screen is off the launcher is not in control of the phone, the OS is in control. Also, I use Nova Prime and have only had 1 problem with Double Tap To Wake in the past 8 days.

I partly agree with your statement. As I understand Nova Prime includes support for double tap. The free app does not. Using the free app I can double tap to wake the phone, but not to sleep. Using the stock launcher, both functions work perfectly. I tried installing the Google Now launcher and it was the same as the free Nova launcher. No double tap to sleep.
I am new to Xda (or forums in general), but I had tons of issues with the double tap to wake feature not working. This was a shame because everything else I loved about this phone (only other thing I would change is a slight processor boost; a Snappy 801 would be perfect). Anyways, I finally got around the issue by performing these steps:
1-In Settings, navigate to Gestures and make sure 'Turn over to mute' is unchecked and 'Turn over to activate' is disabled.
2-Don't know if this is mandatory, but I also disabled the Func shortcuts in the Lock Screen Settings as well.
3-Reboot the device and don't touch these settings again
For some reason, I think Alcatel's software was not appropriately tested with all of these functions enabled. I am not sure, I just know I am having much higher hit rates (works almost every time) after performing the above steps.
Hope it works for you guys.
Lastly, if the double tap starts having issues again, just run a reboot and it should fix it (I just had to reboot after 30+ hours of standby).

Nova has it's own double tap gesture. If you want it to turn off the screen then you will have to have it call a program like "screen off" to accomplish that. DT to wake is still handled by the lockscreen.
believe me i been looking for a way to make this double tap in look screen to work better, by accident i find out that tapping very lightly wake the phone all the time.
Double-tap not working for me. Running all stock, stock launcher.
Same here I can't get the double tap to work for anything, I tried turning off the features and func but nothing, my phone has its days where it works fine and other days where it just doesn't.
Sent from my 6045I using XDA Free mobile app
My original suggestion to fix the double tap was to reboot, but I found a much quicker way. Go under gestures and turn it off and on again. Seems to work every time it gets wonky.
i notice that D2W work almost perfect while the phone on charger ...so it may be power saving mode that make the digitizer off after several minutes???!!!

Question Looking for infos about custom features (knock off/gestures/fast actions)

HI, i was a nexus user in the past and i remember a lot of features from the community. In those days i return to use a google phone, even though google has changed many of its policies about warranty. I notice a lot of problems or missed features. I was looking there but i didn't find nothing so i just ask to be sure i'm in the right place or just i missed something. For example, will be great to add the possibility to double knock on the screen to lock the screen and not only press on the right button. Or, for example, add the possibility to increase things you can do when press the botton screen. Or it will be great to improve gestures, likes oneplus so i can write some letters on blocked screen and for example activate light or something like that.
Is there alredy something for those thing or is still all blocked/work in progress?

For locking the device without using power button, I use Lock App from F-Droid, because I'm not a fan of using buttons.
3 apps/modules come to mind that can expand pixel's capabilities:
1) TapTap - tap back of phone to do something, eg pull down notification or take screenshots
2) AOSP Mods: like a Gravitybox lite. I use it to center the clock in the status bar and display date and day of week. I can also Double tap screen to sleep, but it doesn't work too well
3) ButtonMapper: customize hard buttons for other purposes. For example, i hold my volume down button to take screenshots.
For all, or most, of the best stuff (like AOSP modz) you'll need root access and lsposed to run 'em...a lot like the nexus days, lotsa toys!

Question Is the AOD really supposed to be this way on Pixels?

I am so used to my OnePlus 9's AOD that I'm kind of surprised how terribly it seems to be implemented here and I'm hoping it's just being buggy...
First off, the AOD doesn't seem to work at all if I don't choose to have it displayed all the time (which is the first hint that this may be a bug as even the preview for tap or lift seems to suggest that the AOD should be popping up, not the lock screen as is happening right now).
Second, if I do have it displayed all the time, incoming notifications bring up the lock screen. My OnePlus shows a preview of that one specific notification while still on the AOD screen and it seems silly that Google isn't utilizing something similar. It is extremely handy to have a text come in, say with a 2FA code, and have the entire screen black besides a large preview that shows you that code. The way that it is working now, it wakes the lock screen, which is fine, except the message gets truncated so it often requires me to interact with the device even further to be able to see the full message.
I also tried turning off wake the screen for notifications to see if that triggers the AOD and... it just adds an icon to the AOD...
This is a huge downgrade in user experience if this is the normal expected behavior. I could have sworn my 3 XL handled it better than this but I haven't used it for awhile and I'm not at home where I could check it. Maybe I'll have to look into third party options.
Im not quite sure and your whole post. I as well had the Oneplus 9 pro. My Pixel 7 pro AOD works just fine. I double tap screen and goes directly to the AOD, which displays the Date(top left corner), the time that is big, the fingerprint icon and battery percentage. a tap of the screen brings up the lock screen. Face unlock and pin works directly to the home screen. Now I do have to say im using Nova Launcher as i can't stand that the dat and google search bar can't be removed.

Thanks. Sounds like I have a bug after all right now.
When you get a text or something, does it show an AOD notification with a preview like the OnePlus did or does it just show the lock screen?
I turned off screen on with new notification, I will have to check
Without screen on with new notification, I still get the notification and AOD stays on. Lock screen does not come on. So in other words, AOD works as it should.

The AOD on my Pixel 4a works just like you describe the OnePlus AOD, it stays on the AOD but displays the message at the center for a few seconds, sounds like a bug (unless this changed on the 7 and 7 pro for some reason).
Interesting. Thanks to both of you. Hopefully it gets resolved at some point. I'm in no mood to factory reset and set everything up again so I'll just deal with it for now.

You can get those back if you want. Settings > System > Gestures > System navigation and change back to 3-button.
Do you have the wake screen setting toggled? It's possible that's why

I have tried messing with all four settings in all sorts of configurations to see if I can get it to work properly and have been totally unsuccessful. It seems I have just stumbled on some kind of bug.

Hey, I do have the same bug. Did you manage to fix it ?
I am rooted + I use Kirisakura kernel
I don't think this would be the cause but we never know ...

It was resolved after I did a factory reset and restored only SMS and apps (but not settings) from my Google backup.

Don't know if I understand you correctly. Do you have enabled AOD all the time (always show time and info)? If not, you double tap to show AOD and it's working fine? Do you have any other settings enabled (tap to check phone, etc)?
I have disabled AOD (always show time and info) and when I tap, it goes straight to lockscreen. Not sure but that change may have been introduced in one of the latest updates.
@EtherealRemnant same question to you
In my case as it works right now:
When I enable AOD (always show time and info), it is showing all the time. When I disable that, it's not. When I tap on the screen (when AOD is disabled), it goes straight into lockscreen. When I receive a notification, AOD shows for a short moment.
What I would like to achieve (dunno if that's possible) would be to have tap to show AOD instead of lockscreen (with AOD not showing all the time).
I understand what you would like to do( tap the screen to have AOD appear first. I cannot find anything like( temp AOD) in settings. The show time and info toggle is basically the master AOD switch. Either AOD all the time or disabled completely, nothing in between.
Same for me, after reading topics on reddit, I was thinking I wasn't a bug and I might misunderstood what op was saying.
@trawel to add to your statement, if you move slightly your phone, like lifting one side, the AOD should come, most of the time (sometimes screen stays black)
But yeah I also would like to be able to "tap to show AOD" so it won't unnecessarily unlock when it sees my face.
AOD = Always On Display...it's in the name...ALWAYS ON. I understand what you're looking for but then it would NOT be called AOD, but SOD = sometimes on display.

We get the semantics but the point is that the AOD used to function differently. You used to be able to tap to get the AOD to come on and lifting the device used to always go to AOD FIRST. When I made this thread, I was not seeing the AOD at all most of the time. A factory reset has set it to such that if the phone gets barely moved, the AOD comes up, but tapping or picking it up quickly will almost always go to the lock screen (but then sometimes it will go to the AOD too when picking it up quickly) so it's clearly bugged somehow as the behavior is inconsistent, whichever way that Google intended for it to actually be.
Going beyond that, the AOD is pretty useless anyway. Any incoming notifications light up the lock screen. Why can't they just make it like my OnePlus where the notification shows up on a black screen with a full preview when AOD is enabled? This is so much more useful, not to mention battery friendly.
