About s8+ ram management - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I am using a s8+ snapdragon 6+128.
I have noticed that my ram is getting less and less.
It was 3gb free all the time and now it's 2gb free.
With 774 reserved
I just deleted all non essential apps.
Is there any way that I can free more ram?

Is your phone running slow??

You rebooted your phone?

Why are you trying to get more free RAM?
In Android, in simple terms, free RAM is wasted RAM. Android keeps commonly used apps in RAM, so that they launch quickly when you open them or switch between them.
You shouldn't keep trying to clear RAM. Android works differently to Windows. The S8 manages RAM very well on it's own.
If you close apps to clear them from RAM, Android will just fill it back up with other apps again.
Let the phone manage RAM on it's own. There's no reason to interfere with it. Especially when you don't understand how it works

Hi
I have heard that more RAM in use = drain more battery, is that true? Also I have just reset my phone and now it's 2.7 GB free RAM. I am aware that user don't have to manage RAM anymore on higher version of Android. But I'm concerned about the battery life. Is it better if I use greenify? How much does RAM usage affect battery life? Also when is the official Android Oreo release date on s8+?

The S8 has it's own built in power saving feature, the App Power Monitor. This puts apps to sleep if they aren't commonly used.
You do not need to use any other type of battery saving apps.
Are you getting bad battery life?
There's no official Oreo date yet. Probably January.

Yes I'm getting bad battery life, I have switched off all extra feature and bixby, Google assistant voice wake up, with latest official update and least amount of apps installed. With no widgets and black wallpaper. I think that's hard core enough and I still charged 3 times today.

There's obviously something more serious going on there than bad memory management, or something as generic as that. Rather than just try random things, try to work out the cause systematically.
It could be a rogue app or something like that. What do the battery usage stats say? Settings > Device Maintenance > Battery ? Battery Usage.
What's showing as the top percentage items?

[Q] "Android OS" is top battery consumer

Anybody knows what "Android OS", is? It top battery consumer with 22m of CPU taken.
Its runs the os of the phone. Lol I think.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
I understand that, but why would it eat so much battery? I had Infuse before and it never drained as much battery as Skyrocket and I never saw Android OS as top consumer. It would always be Display.
something is running in the background. Get an app called System panel and it will tell you the usage for every app, service or cache item and its CPU time. My biggest battery muncher is and always was the display

Free version of system panel would not cut it, right? Becouse there is no History tab availabel.
i would recommend trying to flash a new rom, ive noticed that in some roms the android os used up to 22% of my battery while others i only had like 8%, i also think i remember reading that on gingerbread the android os appears to drain more in battery use, have you tried googling it?

not sure, i bought the full version and for the modest price tag of 2$ you should too, it will help you manage your battery usage, its worth it.

Battery issue

I had battery saver installed and seemed to do great work but when uninstalled, my tablet's battery doesn't last more than 30 mins and it got much slower too. No virus was detected from CM though.

It can be due to many reasons. Firstly, there can be many heavy ram consuming apps running in background. Try to close them. Keep the brightness of screen low. Keep Wifi and Other data connections off when not needed. You can also turn off auto-rotation. This will increase your battery backup to a considerable amount.
Incase, it doesn't makes much of a difference, you should buy a new battery !

This isnt a battery save issue. When it reaches like 92% it instantly goes to 56 and at about 51% it goes like 15% or less, or it may even go from 54% instantly to zero. How can i possibly change battery? Its a tablet. How can i open it? If taken for service will they accept it? Its rooted.

I'm sorry. I didn't read your question properly.
Keeping in mind what you're saying, it seems like a "Failing Battery" . Tablet batteries can be changed but you will have to unroot first or the people at service center won't accept your device. So, unroot first and then go to service center.

Substantial standby battery drain?

I'm seeing about 15-20% battery drain overnight, something which I have not seen since the pre-Marshmallow days. Is anyone having issues with battery drain overnight?
Nope, no issues with mine. Do you have a lot of protected apps?
may be using background data like whatsapp/facebook
No issues here - normally i charge overnight, the one night, i didn't, it lost almost nothing (at most 3%, i'm not sure...)
There's an app that runs in the background
I only have a handful of protected apps, and even for those I made them subject to optimization (Doze). It's very strange, but since I'm the only one that seems to have the issue I'll have to do some more digging. Thanks everyone!
I have the same problem. Battery drain the night. I sleep 6 hours and lost 20%. I instaled xposed, greenify and amplify but it was ineficient.
Have you K9 mail installed ? I had this issue using it, after uninstall, issue solved.
I have the battery draining issue under the night.
15-20% no whatsapp/facebook neither k9 mail installed.
Have turn off wifi and mobile data will see tomorrow if it improves.
Really big difference 4% under night with wifi and mobile data off. Have to find with app is eating the battery.
Probably,lot of protected apps...
Hi There, we recommend you check to see if any unused apps are still open on the device and to close out of them before going to sleep. You can also try turning off WiFi and Bluetooth if they are not being used while you are asleep. Another recommendation is to clear all your caches. These steps should help save on any unnecessary battery drainage. Thank you for your question! (NS)

Yes, since they can stay on background, unlike unprotected apps which get shutdown by EMUI when they are inactive for a while
i thinks its mainly beacuse of more cpu cores online while the device is in idle state.

Had 5-6 on Marshmallow, on the Beta the battery is draining like crazy, usually have to charge twice a day with light usage. Factory reset didn't do nothing, same apps as before. Might do another factory reset or go back to Marshmallow after the holidays.

It depends on number of apps you install , number of apps running in background . Time u keep you data connection open . all above will drain it battery faster so use minimal except basic apps

Figured all that already...always close all apps when the screen is off, never connect to wifi or data while the screen is off, smart power plan, reduce resolution, disable bloatware i don't use etc..... for sure i can have my phone without charging for 3 days but what is the point is my screen on time is 4hrs or maybe less in Nougat is even worse imo.... Even after emptying the battery charge to 100% and recalibrating twice
Also something irrelevant i noticed after downgrading back using another region update.app is that the theme store have more themes now that before they weren't there

No power plans on Nougat. It's something like this, for performance you dont need to do anything.
The batttery saver is in Phone Manager, then you have the option to lower the resolution which i dont think it works because nothing changing when i turn it on and the Ultra saver.
I noticed more standby battery drain in EMUI5.0 (B320) than EMUI4.1. I believe Android OS uses more power than before (I don't remember how much it uses in 4.1, but it uses a lot in 5.0).

Changing the resolution won't change anything in view . but look here , in order to display a video with 1080p resolution you are using much CPU power where as when u watching the same video at 480p resolution , it requires much juice . only thing u miss is display quality which is negligible.

Yes, but smart boost keeps apps in RAM as it should. If you turn it off then you may complain about apps being closed in the background. So it's a trade off based on what you want most.
I always throw the apps out.
Man i only turned this off in the morning and im already seeing an improvement, 3.5hr SOT at 60% battery.

Why would I disable something I know for a fact works really nice (good looks to 1+ devs who made the utility), based on something someone who says it improves their battery life (which I don't get because this phone has legit really good SoT+battery life)?
You probably have something else wrong
I'm getting reduced deep sleep percentage since the 9.0.5 update. My phone used to sleep 88-95% of my screen off time. Now it can be between 62-75% but my sot is still only 6.5-8% drain per hour of sot.
I dirty flashed and I'm sure it just needs a factory reset but I don't have it in me to set this phone up again when I'm upgrading to the OnePlus 7 pro in a week. Disabling the labs isn't doing much for the screen off time (deep sleep)
