Substantial standby battery drain? - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

I'm seeing about 15-20% battery drain overnight, something which I have not seen since the pre-Marshmallow days. Is anyone having issues with battery drain overnight?

Nope, no issues with mine. Do you have a lot of protected apps?

may be using background data like whatsapp/facebook

No issues here - normally i charge overnight, the one night, i didn't, it lost almost nothing (at most 3%, i'm not sure...)

There's an app that runs in the background

I only have a handful of protected apps, and even for those I made them subject to optimization (Doze). It's very strange, but since I'm the only one that seems to have the issue I'll have to do some more digging. Thanks everyone!

I have the same problem. Battery drain the night. I sleep 6 hours and lost 20%. I instaled xposed, greenify and amplify but it was ineficient.

Have you K9 mail installed ? I had this issue using it, after uninstall, issue solved.

I have the battery draining issue under the night.
15-20% no whatsapp/facebook neither k9 mail installed.
Have turn off wifi and mobile data will see tomorrow if it improves.

Really big difference 4% under night with wifi and mobile data off. Have to find with app is eating the battery.

Probably,lot of protected apps...

Hi There, we recommend you check to see if any unused apps are still open on the device and to close out of them before going to sleep. You can also try turning off WiFi and Bluetooth if they are not being used while you are asleep. Another recommendation is to clear all your caches. These steps should help save on any unnecessary battery drainage. Thank you for your question! (NS)

Yes, since they can stay on background, unlike unprotected apps which get shutdown by EMUI when they are inactive for a while

i thinks its mainly beacuse of more cpu cores online while the device is in idle state.

[Discussion] Battery Killers

We all want good battery life, that is a given. With the large batteries and the optimized operating systems versions most of us are running today, we all should have it. But often times we don't, why not? Apps with services causing wake lock issues are often to blame. So, I wanted to start this thread to post all apps we have found to either avoid or with workarounds to prevent bad battery life from ensuing.

Make sure no apps are running in the background, if you're not gonna be using your phone for a few hours turn your brightness to the lowest possible, make sure your screen shuts off in less settings ect.

Ok, as u can search in xda , there are alot of posts ppl complaining about some cpu and battery hunger background processes and apps .
In my case these was built in "download manager " and "audio effect service".
I removed the 2nd one permanently!

I agree, facebook its battery sucker...
Wifi, Scrreen brightness, Auto sync, GPS and games in general seem to be the big culkprits for my battery draining. Even simple things like turning auto rotate off can help a tiny bit for performance and battery life. Limiting your amount of active widgets and screens animations on your fancy launcher can cut down as well on battery and performance. Certain IM apps like facebook chat, skype, and a ton of others will kill your device fast. Google + is known to be a bandwidth hog and batttery killer. I noticed when im browsiing youtube simple things like turning off hd will dramatically help improve battery life because your network is not sucking as much bandwidth.
There is all kinds of stuff to do . It is a constant battle.
Greenify app & use Lean Kernel if possible
Like many have said, apps running in the background are the main culprits of a shirt battery life. Unless you feel those apps are truly essential I recommend uninstalling those apps.

Using greenify like most of you guys. Yesterday I installed lux lite on a new custom ROM and noticed it was responsible for about 25% of my battery usage over about an hour with the screen on. Anyone with experience with this app know if this is normal behavior?

I don't know if anyone realizes this, but what I have experienced with my phones(from Nexus One - Nexus 4) I have noticed when I charge my phone through a computer the battery seems to go out faster. When I connect it directly to power it lasts much longer.
Has anyone else noticed this"?

[BIG] Battery drain

hi everybody, since one or two weeks i see i have a big battery drain when my phone is "inactive"... how to resolve this please?
Your screenshot doesn't tell us anything. Further debugging can be found using BetterBatteryStats / Gsam / Wakelock Detector, root is required.
A app is preventing your phone from deep sleeping.
The only thing your screenshot does show us is that Play Services is there, http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-google-play-services-battery-t2832525
View that to fix that but theres definitely more to it than Play Services.

I don't understand your question. In actuality, it takes a couple days for your phone to settle in the new kernel if thats what you're asking.
As long as your phone is properly deep sleeping, you shouldn't be worrying.
You can find out by using 1 of the 3 apps I mentioned previously.

i say, is it possible that the battery drain comes from new kernel?(AK)
also thanks for your help dude, and i modified googleplay services as you've told me with my fresh install of cm11...
I have 2 days of battery life almost and still have 20% left. I use this phone heavily and haven't recharged.
I had the same problem where 60% drain overnight.
Now 2 says.
All I did was turn off Facebook Location services.
That's it.
Facebook was draining so much. I have Wifi on, GPS with High Accuracy.
Facebook always drains a significant amount of battery, I prefer using the mobile website but if you must need the app then greenify it.

Sorry, but I think you are being a bit paranoid here...1% per hour is fine ! This phone does not run on air, it needs battery to stay connected to the GSM network. If you want better results, uninstall all your social media apps and try without them for a night...then go from there.

Yes. Actually when advanced optimization is active, the OS takes up battery to close background apps to bare minimum(might not receive notifications). The phone is awake due to OS trying to close apps which are unnecessary. Hope this helps!
I always turn off my device during night, it has the alarm that automatically woke it up so it's very useful to save battery life

Regardless of whether you get important calls/messages at night, I don't think the answer to any battery drain issue should ever be "turn your phone off."

Recently I installed greenify along with xposed. I set it up and put some apps for hibernation. As greenify was discovering more apps running in the background, I added them to the hibernation list. At first it did improve the standby drain noticeably. With time(the list of backgroud apps increased), I saw that the phone was getting heated up and was losing much of the battery in a short duration of time. After that I removed greenify and my battery was back to normal(nothing cleared including cache etc). So the idea here is greenify also takes up resources to close background apps. Greenify is a better version of Android's Aggressive dose. I also want to mention that my battery life is certainly better than before(when Aggressive dose was enabled). Does this answer your question?
Makes sense.
I'll see whether the built in aggressive doze can indeed be more problem than solution here then.
So far i havent seen other reports.

Extreme battery drain

Hey guys, got the 7 pro. I'm really happy with it. It's great. The only thing pissing me off is the battery drain. I'm getting 2.5% idle battery drain with oos, XXX and smurf kernel... That's not good. Everyone else on the idle drain thread is getting less than 1%! I have tried loads of things, like blocking wakelocks, installing different kernels and some Extreme battery saving stuff. I really don't know what's causing it. I would really appreciate it if someone could help.
Thanks,
Faaris
I am using skydragon kernel with greenify root. I found that Google home app was draining battery while idle because I was casting from my phone. I suspect Android Wear would cause battery drain. But that's just my opinion.

Unless you tweaked something crazy in the kernel settings you have a rogue app. Something has gone Hannibal Lecter on your phone. If I were you I would start freezing apps one by one until you find it. if that doesn't do it I would reset the phone, and add in your must haves for the couple days and if all is well, add the extra app in 1 per day and see. It could actually be some leftover files from a firmware update and a factory reset will do the trick.

Are you using Swift installer by chance? I found out that that is a major culprit. It rapes your cores - keeping them much higher than above the three or four percent idle mark. If you have Swift installer, it's a piece of **** and uninstall it.
Naptime is a good app to reduce standby drain by force dozing. It took me from 1.5%/hr to around .5% per hr. I also disabled zRam in my kernel settings to eek out some extra battery.

I use Swift Installer and I don't have this issue (Havoc OS and SmurfKernel, not happening with OxygenOS either).
Average CPU load goes between 2% and 3% in EXKM app when I'm not doing anything special with the phone.
CPU statistics don't show anything wrong as to clusters frequencies. With light usage, deep sleep and some of the lowest frequencies for each cluster account for about 45% of the total.
I have about 1.2% - 1.4% drain per hour over night with airplane mode enabled.

Google App Causing severe battery drain??

Anyone else seeing this? My Google App is causing severe battery drain. It's been off the charger for 3 hours, sot is 1:52 and battery is at 85%. Google is accounting for 17.4% of drain and only active for 6 minutes and background for 12h7m. I have it set to sleep when not in use. I was watching youtube this morning for 14 minutes and it only accounted for 1.3% drain.
Yesterday it accounted for 20.3% drain and only active for 6m and background 13h 21 m. Day before that 11.5% with active 7m and background 8h 14m.
This is weird. Coming from a Pixel 4XL and didn't see this much battery drain with so little use.

Has it been doing that since you got it? How long have you had it? Because usually Google is saving a lot of your stuff and creating backups in the background but you can deny background activity by going into the app and ticking the slider over to deny background activity but that might preven automatic backups and saves.

That's not normal.. is there any updates to that specific app or able to tap uninstall on it to roll it back to a possible previous version?
Edit: this is the screen I'm talking about to stop background activity.
I guess it's still not showing the pictures that are being uploaded.. I'm going to talk to the owner.
I'll try rolling back any updates, but I do see when I do a general internet search that other people have had the problem with Android 10 and Samsung devices. Most have fixed it by disabling the app. But that's not an option I want to take. LOL
I've cleared cache and rebooted. I'll see if I still see a large battery drain. If so, I'll uninstall and reinstall and see if that fixes it.

By the way, do you have a ton of apps and pictures and all kinds of stuff on the phone? Because if you do the carrier's don't give very fast upload speeds and if it's trying to save a ton of data it's definitely going to take quite a while on carrier data.. I'd use a business or someone's wifi if possible so it can do it quickly.

I have a lot of apps disabled and yes you can still use it, don't know anything about kilallapps though. If I charge my phone to 100% before going to bed and lay it on the table until morning in 10 hours it won't lose 5%. depending on what apps you have installed may not be quite the same. And yes it puts the phone into a deep sleep. You can have it turn bluetooth, wifi and others off while in doze

If I charge my phone to 100% before going to bed and lay it on the table until morning in 10 hours it won't lose 5%. depending on what apps you have installed may not be quite the same. And yes it puts the phone into a deep sleep. You can have it turn bluetooth, wifi and others off while in doze
