Rooting? - HTC One A9

Am correct in saying that if I want to root I will have to unlock via htc dev, flash the latest twrp and flash magisk in twrp
I dont want to flash ROMs or be s off, just root and install xposed
I'm running nougat stock

That's exactly it. Make sure when you start up TWRP that you've got /system mounted read-only or it will bootloop.

Moto X Pure Edition XT1575 -- systemless root -- OTA updates fail

TWRP 3.0.2-0
SuperSu Pro 2.78
Android 6.0 Marshmallow build MPH24.49-18
I have systemless rooted my phone as per the instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...t-moto-x-style-xt1572-br-marshmallow-t3259380
although, it didn't work without some tweaking... Unfortunately I don't remember what steps I took to get it working.
I am not sure of the process form here. Now that I have root, am I supposed to flash boot_orig.img permanently or just when I want to update?
I have tried:
fastboot flash boot boot_orig.img
but I loose wifi and can't download.
I have tried letting the OTA fail with the boot.img flashed, then reflashed with boot_orig.img and tried to install the update zip file via TWRP, but that fails.
I made a TWRP backup before I started rooting and for every major step after that, so I can start fresh if need be.
[EDIT]
I noticed on this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63197935&postcount=2 , the following comment:
You must absolutely re-flash your stock /system partition, or the separate root instances will interfere with each other. The installer for this experiment will not clean up old root files.
- Flash stock /system (and /vendor and /oem, if present)
- Flash the attached boot image
- Flash the attached SuperSU ZIP in TWRP

Could this be the problem? If so, How do I "flash stock /system (and /vendor and /oem, if present)"?
Any help appreciated...

5.0.2-010 05 update downloaded should I use

Just got this phone new from cricket. I'm having issues making calls. I downloaded the update. But am wondering should I use it. I'm wanting to do custom roms exc. I have not unlocked boot loader or anything yet. If I do the update will I still be able to unlock the boot loader and root custom roms exc? 6045o is the type
First of all I suggest unlocking the bootloader, because if you update to MM you will lose fastboot commands (you can have them back but it's tedious). Then maybe install the latest TWRP, update to MM and then systemless root or custom ROM If you want to update to latest official firmware but don't want to lose TWRP/root just download the update without installing it and then flash it with chainfire's FlashFire.
thanks

First of all make sure you never mount /system as rw when using TWRP.
Then just do a systemless root (download SuperSU from chainfire website on your phone, launch TWRP's terminal and type "echo SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.supersu", then flash SuperSU as usual), systemless root won't be detected by apps/os. Will probably be detected by SafetyNet but i'm not sure PoGo uses it. In case you have problems with root detection you can try suhide by Chainfire.
Also note that systemless Xposed (rootcloak, etc) and V4A are possible via Magisk (just search it on XDA).

You can boot twrp without flashing and then flash root

You said you wanted root, you were supposed to use the process to get root not flash magisk. I thought you had a method of installing magisk after getting root. I thought you were going to boot twrp recovery, not flash it, since you said you didn't want twrp.
Unfortunately you're going to have to flash stock with OST.

yeah now i got twrp but only come when boot from fastboot commands and i want magisk how can i get it?

I have never actually used magisk. I thought you had a way of installing/flashing magisk once you had root
I try installing magisk by flashing magisk zip from twrp but got bootloop

Might I ask: what do you need magisk for?
Also in that recovery I got errors like can't Mount and some kind of encryption error and it say's I have to format data
Need magisk for root and modules as also I want all updates properly installed means i want to in stock recovery

In my opinion, only use the recovery for flashing stuff, don't mount anything other than sdcard, don't unlock. Maybe when there is a more compatible version of twrp ...

Well i don't know about the modules, but when I flashed stock firmware with OST (first time I flashed recovery my phone was stuck in twrp) then flashed root and xposed, I was still able to install updates. The stock firmware I installed was 7.0, but now i'm on the most recent update. So unless there are some specific modules that you need from magisk, I think you can stick with the regular root.
On the other hand you can continue to experiment with magisk, maybe you will find something that we don't know yet and get it working. But remember, if you want to flash anything, don't format with twrp at all, just leave everything readonly and flash
I'm not able to go to recovery by buttons. Only by fastboot command why is that?
What the hell is this i just try to go to recovery by buttons it works but I'm on stock recovery but i flashed twrp then i format data did formatting data did something to recovery? Or is it that i have to use fastboot command to go to twrp recovery? Where the hell is that recovery?

I don't know; the process of flashing recovery on HMD's nokias isn't yet fully developed, people have complained about flashing recovery but still not booting into it. Personally I would recommend that you use stock recovery and use fastboot to boot into twrp instead of actually flashing twrp whenever you want to flash anything. That way you are still able to install system update
But for installing magisk every where written that flash magisk zip from twrp but i got bootloop

Have you flashed stock firmware with OST? Can you boot normally now? If not, do that, then update ti the current android version using OTA. After that boot into twrp (whether you chose to flash twrp or just boot twrp is up to you). Do a backup then try flashing magisk again, maybe it will work this time
Yeah i already flashed stock rom with ost and already update to latest version i think magisk is not supported in Nokia 3

Hello mate, you can't root nokia 3 with Magisk. Why? Because noone never send boot img to dev! So only option to root it is Chainfire SuperUser 2.79v.
Ok brother but i have a question if i root and then remove some system apps then can I safely install updates?

Installing TWRP on S8+ Exynos without rooting?

Hey everyone,
I want to root my S8+ and install TWRP and I found a thread in here about installing TWRP and then rooting my phone , however I went to Twrp-Website and it said something about dm-verity and kernel.
So my question is, do I need to root the phone first or can I just install TWRP and then root it?
Would be really grateful if someone answered quickly
Thanks in advance.

Typically, with Exynos, you flash TWRP via Odin, and once you re-boot, into TWRP, then do the dm-verity and rooting flashes, eg Su or Magisk, in that order.
There are some custom ROM installs that install a root during their install, many of which use Aroma, so pick your options for the ROM/root install.

Can I just Flash TWRP (already unlocked, rooted with Magisk installed)

I cannot find anything on point to this direct question (all the guides/forums seem to have you flashing/installing TWRP first then installing Magisk).
I am already unlocked and installed Magisk/rooted with Magisk SU by using the Magisk Manager method with stock recovery.
At this point can I just flash/install TWRP to have a custom recovery without issue? I ask because I want to try out J to the 4n's Active Edge plus but want to make a backup first before tinkering with it. Loved his stuff as a long HTC viper guy.
Thanks in advance.

I cannot find the specific thread (if I do find it I will update) but from what I recall you will need to flash an unpatched boot img and then flash twrp. After that you can reinstall Magisk. I know TWRP modifies the boot so that will interfere with Magisk. I hope this was helpful.

Extremely helpful! Sounds like I would boot loop the phone if I just flashed TWRP in my current configuration.
I'll uninstall magisk, reboot, then flash the stock boot.img and then follow the twrp/magisk install directions.
Much appreciated!
Here's what I did:
1) Boot twrp img file from fastboot
2) Flash the latest twrp zip in twrp. DON'T REBOOT. If you are going to use a custom kernel, you must do step 3 below. Don't later reboot and flash a custom kernel or you can run into bootloader signature issue. If you ARE NOT going to use a custom kernel, jump to step 4.
3) Flash your custom kernel.
4) Flash the latest Magisk zip to root again
5) Reboot.
Enjoy
