Pixel 2 XL on Oreo 8.1 beta and Gear S3 - Samsung Gear S3

Any Pixel 2 owners on the 8.1 beta that also have the Gear S3? I wanted to know if there are any issues with the watch specially Samsung Pay. Also wanted to know if there are any improvements with the bluetooth device priority for the car and wireless headphones. Thanks!

I will get the phone today and I'll let you know once I finished setting it up.

No issues with samsung pay - I have been rocking 8.1 since it came out with the S3 - no known issues. The only minor annoyance is on the phone, there is a constant notification that the watch is connected in the notification tray - have not figured out how to remove

Long press on the notification and you should get the option to remove it.

Does the watch allow you to answer calls or make calls from it? I'm on the Pixel 2 XL 8.1 Beta as well.

Unknown notification reminder

Hey everyone, I just picked up a Note 5 yesterday and love it so far. I have a Note Pro 12.2 already so I am familiar with most of its features. The only issue jm having is when I turn on notification reminders my phone goes off every minute, like I have a pending notification even though I don't. I went through the list of apps and turned every one to off and it still goes off every minute. Is there any way to figure out what app is causing this?

Is the notification reminder that you turned off the one under accessibility?

Yes that's correct. That's also where I turned off all the apps individually.

Nexus 6p Compatibility

Hi. I've read a couple articles from a couple months ago that said there were issues pairing the Gear S2 to the Nexus 6p due to encryption. Is this still an issue?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
this issue was solved ,the gear S2 now works with the 6P
Is this definitely fixed? I can't find anything official via Google and this one post is the only mention that the issue has been resolved.
If the issue with encryption has been fixed, has the notification issue also been fixed? I recall there being problems with notifications being pushed to the watch.
Hi can anyone verify this?
Everything is working normal on my Nexus 6 on 6.0 if that helps.

Did you unencrypt your phone? I flashed Chroma and unencrypted my Nexus 6 in order to get my Gear S2 to work. I tried it on stock rooted but could not get the update to download. Everything is working great now that I'm on Chroma ROM.
Now that I look at it, my phone has been unencrypted but forgot about doing it. I am running the normal 6.0 but I am rooted. I do have some Bluetooth issues though.
Not really sure if an issue but when ever I answer my phone it defaults to the watch, anyway to change that?
I have a Nexus 6, completely stock and running 6.0, that pairs perfectly fine with my gear s2. The only issue I see is that since it isn't a Samsung phone, I do not have access to all available apps for the s2. I've been looking around for a way to have access to them in order to install to my watch, but I haven't found anything definitive yet. Biggest thing I can't find is how to install Milk music to the watch (i've been able to sideload it onto my phone).

The Gear S2 sport has been working very well on my Nexus 6P for over a month. Just wish we'd get some software updates from Samsung now!
just to make sure before i go out and buy one. will this work on a rooted nexus 6P?

Go to settings, Bluetooth, click on the icon next to your gear s2, and uncheck phone audio. Then it will default to the handset earpiece / Bluetooth headset
Only issue I have is not being able to transfer music from my Nexus 6 (rooted running latest chroma) to the gear s2. The gear app doesn't recognize my "0/music" folder. Any suggestions other than painfully transferring single tracks at a time through filemaster?

Are you running chroma lollipop or marshmallow? Am thinking about getting the watch too but am running purenexus marshmallow. Is all the notification working on the nexus 6? Thanks
I'm running chroma marshmallow latest version. I get all of my notifications, only issue is a Nexus issue on how the internal storage route is interpreted by the Sammy software.
No, Samsung Gear S2 is not compatible with Nexus 6P. Its compatible with Nexus 5 and some lists of other smartphone devices. It is officially declare by samsung in their website. Here i will give you the screenshot of compatible devices list.

Do you have milk or any other music steaming app working without the phone?
I like the idea of being able to leave the phone behind (LTE version) for workouts and such but need streaming music.

I've had the Samsung Gear S2 classic for several months now, working perfectly with LGG2. Got a new Nexus 6P (Android 6.0.1) a week ago, did all OS updates and security updates and installed the Gear S2 app. It would pair and connect to my Gear S2 just fine but as soon as open the app and try to click on anything (e.g. watch faces, notifications, apps layout, etc...) it opens for 1s and closes again. I've tried repairing, reinstalling, resetting....re-anything but no luck. I have not tried turning off encryption yet but at this point the watch is unusable without the app. Very disappointing!

Ok...I fixed it. Just in case somebody was having the same issue. No rooting or ROM flashing necessary.
All I did was add "Google App" back into the list of apps that are allowed to send notifications to the Gear S2. I'm not entirely sure why this is related to notifications but I'm assuming since the OS needs to communicate with the watch to get all settings to display in the Gear app, that "Google App" is kind of synonymous for "anything Android" and should therefore always be left "on" in Gear app notifications.
I hope this helps somebody.
Cheers,
Mike

Gear s3 app shows updates available

The gear s3 app on my phone shows there are 3 or 4 or even 5 updates at all times. However opening galaxy app store does not show any updates. Anyone else with the same issue?

Yup, happens to me all the time. I've been meaning to ask if anyone else had the problem. Kinda annoying, but harmless I guess...
Yea, happens to me often too.
This right here? Yeah, it's annoying. Not sure what's causing it to throw those numbers. I just took this screenshot and only had 2 updates, but usually there are none.
I have the opposite problem. I do not get notifications for updates anymore (once did get it) while I see that there are updates available for some apps.

Waze App

Good morning All.
So I am new to the forums so excuse my nervousness here. I have a odd question for those who already have this phone. Basically, I would like to know if the Waze app Galaxy S8+ operate fluidly? The reason that I ask is because when I had my Note 5 I would notice while I was using the app during the navigation mode it would skip as I was driving.
When I had the phone then I thought it was a firmware issue from the app or the phone it self, however that was not the case because they were both up to date at that present time. While researching I found out that I was not it was an issue with the Android OS.
I am very interested to know the answer to this thank you!

Only used it once, but it seems to work fine
I use it daily and haven't had issues with it. Ive had my phone since wed, but had a S7 edge before that and no issues there either.

Great news. I know it seems like an odd question, but I use Waze more than any app on any devices that I have.
Waze work great in my galaxy s8 plus...

Daily use of Waze and zero issues.
I use Waze daily while on patrol. I used it on all the previous Android devices I have had and now on the S8+. I have had no issue with the production version.

That's good to hear. I have just got a S8+ and never realised that AMOLED's suffer this as I've only ever had LCD phones.
Do you do anything other than change the car colour as I guess the orange icon to the right of the screen in the app could cause problems.
Do you set it to a certain brightness etc?

I just let it run as is with auto brightness on. I'm in the same boat, this is my first AMOLED phone. I've had it about 3 months now and so far so good.

update to latest version

Hi, bought a gear s3 a few days ago and will recieve soon, after looking for a bit on the forums i had to ask if i should update to the latest tizen os version when i recieve it, but sounds like the battery issues are a big problem and i dont want to mess up my new watch, so is it worth it to update or just skip and wait for a new version to roll out in the near future? Thanks
Wait for a real fix

Hmmm nice battery life... Remotely connected is when your out of bluetooth range and your gear connects to wifi. Youd still be able to recieve messages. Handy if your charging your phone, when your in the gym and have to leave your phone in the locker and connected to the wifi, etc....
Will move again to version 2.3 coz its not working for me using 2cqk3 and 2cql1.
Will just wait for samsung to fix it in their next update
