Heads Up Off AND Working Ambient Notifications - Google Pixel 2 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Have you noticed that if you disable Heads Up with
Code:
settings put global heads_up_notifications_enabled 0
that Ambient Notifications are disabled too?
This Tasker Profile disables heads up while screen is on, but enables heads up (Ambient Notifications) when screen is off.
Required:
Tasker
Root
Instructions:
Import the Tasker profile and enable it.

Reserved.

nice. I just learned to live without them since I have always on display now... didn't root yet.

Do we need to disable it first with : settings put global heads_up_notifications_enabled 0?
Nevermind... I just re-read the op ?

[Q] Unable to disable Sweep2sleep [Nova launcher + no nav buttons = frustration]

My setup:
4.4.4 GPE ROM
Nova launcher
Motion Launch disabled in general ROM settings
LMT with Pie controls as the only active feature
GravityBox configured to disable the navigation bar
Kernel Manager configured with Swipe2Wake disabled
My Issue:
When I swipe left along the bottom of the screen it puts the phone to sleep.
This wouldn't be to much of an issue but since my Nova dock now sits at the bottom of the screen since the nav buttons are disabled I'm accidentally putting it to sleep while swiping thru my docks.
Am I missing a setting somewhere that is keeping this swipe to sleep functionality enabled? Is there another app I can install to disable this swipe2sleep feature perhaps?
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I'm using Clean ROM when Sweep2Sleep and I haven't found a way to disable it. However, I like having it, but in your situation, I can see why you would want to turn it off. My motion gestures are also turned off, I'm pretty S2S isn't tied into those.

Figured it out.. found the answer buried on page 241 of the ROM thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54199293&highlight=sweep#post54199293)
Just had to modify the Sweep2sleep section in the init.d file as it was set to 2 by default. uncommented it to 0 and it's now disabled.

[Night Mode] as it should be on OOS with a new QS Tile, Root and Kcal required

Hi all.
OnePlus Night mode is a bit off the standard as some of us have been reporting for a long time.
I have been struggling with it since day one. To green (i see a lot of users saying to yellow) for me.
This does not Fix the One Plus Night Mode, it adds a new QS Tile you can use instead.
With this new QS Tile you will get the Amber Night Mode you see on AOSP Roms.
Root is mandatory.
You need a kernel with Kcal support (If you know me you know what i use already, if not it's on my Signature, if you are on XDA Labs and can't see it i always use blu_spark kernel).
Kernel Adiutor is not mandatory but is the app i use to check if it's all as should be.
QuickTile Quick Settings 7+ is the app i use for the "new" Night Mode QS Tile.
Now the fun:
Open Quick Tile and give the App root permissions when asked.
1 - Change the QS icon to the White half Moon icon, Change the name to Night Mode (The icon and name can be adjusted to your personal taste)
2 - Click the "+" button, select "LAB", select "send ROOT Shell command and insert:
Code:
echo '256 256 256' > /sys/devices/platform/kcal_ctrl.0/kcal
Hit OK, this is the normal state of QS Tile (disabled state).
3 - Hit the "Gear icon" and choose Add Cycle (Previous state will vanish, we are now making the enabled Night mode state of the same QS Tile)
4 - Change the QS icon to the Grey half Moon icon, Change the name to Night Mode (The icon and name can be adjusted to your personal taste)
5 - Click the "+" button, select "LAB", select "send ROOT Shell command and insert:
Code:
echo '256 155 61' > /sys/devices/platform/kcal_ctrl.0/kcal
Hit OK, this is the actual Night Mode state of QS Tile (enabled state).
6 - Hit the "Play button" to see the night mode Kick in.
7 - Go to your QS, edit them and add the new Night Mode QS Tile you just created to the QS panel. You can ditch the old one.
All done. Enjoy the Night mode on OOS as it should have been implemented in the first place.
This works on Stable and OB OOS. You need to disable the automatic Night Mode if you are on OB or it will override this one.
OP3/3T are on par on such matter, it works for both devices.
Nice, will give it a try. I also dont understand what was oneplus idea by adding this greenish night mode. It hurts my eyes and i never use it
Thanks for this!
I noticed with ex kernel manager that each switch between regular and nightmode will increase the values for "value" and "contrast" by one step.
Depending on how often you do this, the colors will look noticeably different eventually.

I have tested it quite extensively with Kernel Adiutor.
Can't seem to reproduce it.
127 is the value for both "value" and "contrast" on both Night Mode and Stock Mode.
Try to disable ExKernel Manager and use KA to check after a few ON/OFF cycles of Night Mode.
The only parameter of Kcal I touch with those commands is "Screen color" which changes RGB.
They cycle as supposed on my end.
Other values are untouched and are reported as untouched on Kernel Adiutor App.
Feel free to give me feedback on this matter. I find that a bit strange.
@Chaplan
Works great with EX kernel and OB14 on OP3. Thanks for this. :good:
Edit: Also configured Tasker for automatic Night Mode
Hey just followed your tutorial and created the tile and tested with play button but I am unable to add the tile to the qs panel. I am able to drag the 'Quicktile' tile to half way and it disappears. Not sure it's rom issue or app. So can you help me out?

It's pretty straight forward.
Never encountered that issue.
Try to add it to the middle panel and then to the top panel where the QS Tiles get activated.
Also giving auto start permissions to the app and removing it from agressive Doze and app hibernation list will make it perform on an immediate basis when the QS is pressed.

Tried them and still doesn't work. But thinking that I am using ozone substratum theme for 4QS tiles. This might be the reason for not able to add tiles.?
Will check that also.
Thank you for the response:good:

Do Not Disturb - custom exceptions - alarms not possible

I wanted to set exceptions for do not disturb mode for calls/messages from my family AND alarms. The alarms toggle is grayed out under "custom" exceptions settings. I don't want alarms only, I want alarms and favorite contacts. Any ideas? (VZW - S8+)
It is grayed out because in custom mode alarms are always allowed. I use custom mode and my alarm wakes me up every morning.
You can try it for yourself. Set DND to custom and turn it on, then set an alarm for one minute from now. The alarm will sound.
If you see my picture, it's grayed out in the off position. After a reboot, it's now grayed out in the on position. All is well, thanks.
Sent from the Galaxy (S8+)
Didn't work for me
Did that actually work for you? Mine is greyed out in the on position as well but the alarm appears on the screen and still won't sound out loud when in do not disturb custom mode
Mine has always worked fine, then randomly yesterday evening I got a notification that do not disturbed activated and alarms are silenced.
No matter what I do, how many times I restart I cant get the alarms to be greyed out in the on position while using custom settings.
Anyone ever find a solution to this? Just realized mine had started doing the same after a missed alarm yesterday.
My note is doing the same thing now. alarms used to work fine on Do Not Disturb, but not anymore. I am with Verizon
I still get alarms sounding in custom DND mode. Which alarm app are you using? (I'm using the default.) Is your alarm app set for Priority Notifications?
My Galaxy S8+ just started doing this too. I recall that the alarm selection was not previously in the off position. Now it is and my alarm will not sound in do not disturb mode.

I checked my wife's phone and the alarm toggle is greyed out as well however it is in the on position.
I suspect that Android Auto is causing the problem. It forces the toggle to the OFF position somehow.
Are you guys using Android Auto or similar apps that toggles the DND mode?
You might just be on to something.
I use Android Auto quite a bit and I noticed that again the alarms slider is switched off.
Android Auto IS the cause!
I have been using the Do Not Disturb mode with custom notifications since I got my S8+ several months ago. The alarms we're always toggled on. Two days ago I installed Android Auto, the morning after I installed it was the first time my alarm did not go off. As soon as I saw the mention of Android Auto, in this forum, I said "aha!" Rebooting my phone fixed the alarm issue for the moment. Hopefully, I will not need to reboot my phone every night after using Android Auto.
Turn alarm on in do not disturb mode
To make sure your alarm works in do not disturb mode: go to sounds and vibration, click on do not disturb enable as scheduled, click on allow exceptions, click on priority app notifications, turn on the clock app as a priority app notification.

I've tried that. It doesn't work.
Opposite problem
I have custom exceptions set so that when do not disturb is scheduled at night, that my boss and employees can still call me. When I am at the theater and I manually select do not disturb, I really do not want an alarm going off. I discovered the hard way that they still do.
This is still a bug with Android Auto 2 years on ?*

Disable charging LED?

I use my phone to read in bed at night. I have two questions.
Does anyone know how I can disable the charging LED?
Does anyone know of a way to increase the intensity of night mode beyond the stock settings?
If it helps I have Xposed and magisk. Oh also, I would prefer not to use gravity box for Oreo, as it seems to mess up some things with the status bar.
I want to do this too , I don't understand why there isn't an option to turn it off.
I downloaded Lightmanager and lightflow to try and turn it off, unfortunately didn't work.
Same. Sure wish at least the LED brightness could be controlled.
With lightning manager, config the color with 000001 (it doesn't work with 000000)
Only way is to turn off LED for all.
Settings > Display>Blink LED
For those who were interested, I solved this by using the app Light Flow.
I use tasker to do this and the secure settings plugin. In the secure settings plugin I run the following script:
settings put system battery_charging_led 0
This will only disable the charging led. Change the 0 for a 1 to turn it on again.

Does this still work for you on latest Android?
It works on Lineage Android 9 on OnePlus 3T.
Thank you!

Disable Heads Up Notifications?

I've been using a Lineage PIE ROM on my OPO for months and the heads up notification toggle was a tile.
Can't find anywhere to disable it on this OP7 Pro.
Is it possible?
+1, can't wait to get rid of it

I actually have been disabling them with adb on my past 3-4 devices. But with the 7 pro, if you disable heads up, you won't receive notifications at all when screen is off (unless there is sound)
Also just discovered this, I had my animations turned off and my horizon light didn't work. Randomly turned them on today and what do you know... Animations off = no horizon light.
Not sure what OP is doing to notifications...
Okay so I found no tile but if you switch to Do not Disturb Mode you can deactivate them.
Go into settings->do not disturb->notifications->custom
It's not as efficient as the tile but it works. And I guess with the alert slider it's at least manageable since you can switch pretty easily

It seems if you do it with the method mentioned above you can have the screen turn on and no pop up for notifications

These are my settings but the pop ups still occur.
If that doesn't work the only other idea I have is misusing game mode..
Obviously it's not really that usable for games then anymore
I use Tasker for this.

Is there a profile you can share?
There are apps that can help with this.
I use Shortcutter, works with root and non root via adb.

Do notifications still come through on Ambient Display on this?
Tried the same adb command and it broke Ambient Display, worked fine on 6T tho
Connect the device via ADB and run the following command from a command prompt on your computer:
adb shell settings put global heads_up_notifications_enabled 0
That disables heads up notifications only

I'm not too sure about that actually, haven't really paid attention to ambient display with this setting enabled.
My use case is to disable these notifications only when in certain apps (YouTube, Netflix). As soon as Ieave these kinds of apps, heads up notifications will enable again.
You can try adding a screen state context, so ensure that %SCREEN = on, else enable heads up notifications to ensure ambient display notifications work.
Just do it in adb. One command and it's off. Still get notifications and dots. And sounds. Just no heads up. Works perfectly...
adb shell settings put global heads_up_notifications_enabled 0
