Hello. I am considering changing my battery on my Galaxy S7, as the capacity has gone down to 78% after 1.5 years of use. I still want to have it waterproof. What I am considering doing, is to;
1. Buy a Genuine S7 battery
2. Buy the genuine back cover bonding adhesive
When I do this procedure, I will make sure to remove the old adhesive properly, and adding the new adhesive in such a way that there wont be any wrinkles.
My goal is to ensure that the phone is waterproof after the procedure.
Have anyone done this before? And do you think it would work?
Cheers.
First of all, what are you using to measure the capacity of the battery? Apps don't work
1. That is not a genuine battery for $6
2. Unlikely to be genuine adhesive either
If not sold by Samsung, and ridiculously cheap = fake
In fact, if eBay = generally fake
It's possible you could seal it again if done well and correctly, but personally I wouldn't ever chance putting it under water again once the seal was broken

Going to be upgrading to the S5 since the S6 doesn't have SD card nor extended battery capable...
What I'm looking for and haven't had any luck, is a backcover and case that can handle an extended battery and has the same functionality as the original... with being dustproof, water resistant etc. Does such a case exist? For my S4 I have the 5200 mAh batter and though the battery works like a champ... I was never a fan of the replacement back. Never fit properly and sometimes popped off.
One problem with me is, I'm finicky. I like things to be nice looking and about all I have come up with so far is a big old blank. $$$ isn't a problem if something is out there that fits my bill

See my review of the Mugen extended battery and cover. I've had it since January and have been very pleased with it. In fact, if I take it off and go back to stock battery, the phone just seems so light and off balance to me. It's not rated IP67 but is rated IPx3 which will definately keep dust off. Take a look at my photos and you'll see it has a rubber gasket surrounding the extended battery.
Bought a used Relay off eBay and the battery life is pretty meh, either because it's the original one and is run down or a knockoff. (It's an 1800 mAh.)
I'm running CM 10.2 and minimal background apps. Mobile data is off 95% of the time (I turn it on/off only as needed), and the same for wifi. It only charges up to about 85% and I can't even get 10 hrs off that.
I'm not looking for an extended battery, just one that will last longer than this one! There are so many "OEM" ones on eBay/Amazon that it's hard to find a legit Samsung battery (if they even make this one anymore). Any suggestions on where to look or brands of some aftermarket ones that won't catch on fire?
Thanks all-
-KC

I'm using that battery. I think u have to shave down the battery plastic near where the connectors are, but other than that it fits in the phone.
Oh and I also wedged a small piece of foam on the right side (maybe 2mm thick) just to keep the battery snug. Else it is loose and will lose connection with the power terminal if u slam the slider shut.
Yeah, I'm using that same PolarCell battery in my wife's phone, and did the same cut+foam. We've been through a couple cheapo "extended capacity" batteries, but the PolarCell one fits w/o having to mess with the case, and gives a good runtime (better than her original battery did when new).
There's a thread in the Accessories forum (I think) about different batteries, which is where I saw this one mentioned. You might dig through there for more history.
So, just some questions I'm hoping might be answered here.
I have the BLU Pure XL and I found an aftermarket QI receiver which seems to work; except I suspect that sticker on the back cover is the NFC tag assembly and it blocks Qi.... so one of two questions:
Any idea if it can be removed without too much difficulty? I was thinking of taking a razor blade and trying to shimmy under it, since it's almost certainly just glue. I'd try this on the book cover first, of course.
Second option, is based on the internals of an NFC tag... is it realistic to reposition the tag somehow? I'm sure I could use some speaker wire or something to make the connection to the phone antennae....
Anybody have any suggestions for how a human might go about hacking this together? At the moment I simply have the receiver outside the phone's shell (worth noting that it does indeed fit underneath it though!) and I'm thinking I'll just let the black silicone case I have coming hide the cable. Ideally though I'd like to get the qi working underneath the case.
Not that it would seem anyone cares, but I have found out some helpful information:
1. The receiver does fit under the back cover of the phone
2. The NFC antenna is basically a sticker. Peel carefully and it can be re-applied without issue, if you need to remove it to get rid of interference with the Qi. Best place to hook it up is under the metal contacts - but BE GENTLE.
I'm hoping to figure out if I can get some kind of antenna that fits somewhere and works to have both at the same time - as it stands the only way to retain your capacity for NFC is to have the Qi receiver on the outside of the phone.
Another update: don't do this. It really is not worth the effort - I cooked part of my back cover, so now there's a big blemish there.
Probably my fault for using a cheap universal receiver, but either way the damage is done. Be careful!

which receiver did you go with

See my most recent post here.
Anyhow, for the receiver, I went for a generic one off eBay. Cost about $3, and then a $20 qi pad, for the fat lot of good it did me. I don't really think you can get these receivers "professionally" anyway. Exercise caution, I've got a permanent blemish on my back cover now because of it, and things might have been more awkward. I would definitely advise against putting it UNDER the cover, as the only saving grace is I had it externally.
I wish this phone had wireless charging

It's not wireless, but I did find these wicked neato adapters on eBay that are basically the micro-usb equivalent of magsafe.
They're $5 CAD a pop, but it's almost as trivial to hook the phone into charge/take it off with these, and they are absolutely safe. Also reversible.
Basically there's a small nib you leave in the phone on a permanent basis (well... removable, obviously, but you get the point) that isn't much more obstructive than a qi receiver anyway, and then there's an adapter that takes any normal micro-usb in and gives it a magnetic snap head to hook onto this nib.
Just eBay "micro-usb magnetic" and it should pop up at around $5 with free shipping.
I'm not too sure if this is the right place to ask all of this, but here it goes:
I'm heavily considering an S5, especially since it is has some waterproofing, has an OLED screen, and many features that budget phones today do not have. Lifeproof also offers a case(albeit expensive) that makes it much more waterproof and 'drop-proof'. Would there be any similar cases that you would recommend, that increase waterproofing and make it drop proof?
However, I'm also pretty worried about the battery life. How much time can the stock 2800 mAh battery get you? I'm pretty sure the Lifeproof case won't work with really any extended battery.
And while I don't know the practicality of it, how necessary/cool is a wireless charging cover? I think it's a really cool thing for something as old as an S5, but I'm not too sure if it's worth the tradeoff(s). I have seen posts here saying that the wireless charging cover is somewhat compatible with the Lifeproof case, but inconvenient.
A final question, although not really an accessory question, is where should I get an S5 from? Will the popular ebay ones do for rooting? I need it unlocked though

Hello and welcome the s5 is a good choice to have and it can hold its own as for the waterproof case you could just get the life proof if it suits your needs but I personally don't have one that's water proof.for wireless charging it is good for over night or if your at work but the charge rate is slow so I would just get a long charging cable
For the battery I get about 5 to 6 hours screen on time it all depends on daily usage and what apps your using
And for buying a s5 I paid £40 for mine all working but the paint has started coming off the bezel if you can get one private of sites like shpock or Gumtree then you should get one cheap if not eBay or amazon then I bought a zagg invisible shield off eBay for £0.99p and a hard case for the same price
Deciding whether to get a case and removable batteries, or just get an extended battery with its hard case(which hopefully keeps the water resistance).
Otterbox is a bit of a PITA, but after having a phone in an Otterbox thrown against a wall screen-first, without a mark to the phone, the case or the wall, I don't mind having to go through ripping the case off, doing whatever has to be done, then replacing the case. It's better than doing without the phone for a few days while I'm waiting for a new screen. (I can't tell you about the Lifeproof, I've never owned one, because I don't go swimming with my phones, but it's probably about the same. Quality protection costs. (Besides, if you recharge at 40%, you won't be replacing batteries that often.)
LifeProof Fré and extended battery works just fine, but without backside cover on. I´ve been using that very combo when kayaking. Be sure to check all sealings are in the right places though... Changing battery is also a easy-piecy with said case.
