Screen Awake Widget - Android Apps and Games

Hi everyone.
I have asked moderator if and where I'm allowed to post thread of app that is paid, but providing promocodes for XDA community for permanent free of charge installation to get possible feedback and testing of application.
Now you can work on your phone, read web articles and do any other stuff without your display turning off on most unwanted time. You can easily switch it to stay on directly from your home screen with a single click.
Very useful and easy to use application that allows you to quickly toggle phone's screen timeout settings, setting it to always on, or any user definable timeout and revert back to choosen before display timeout.
IMPORTANT! Some chineese devices having MiUi and similar homescreen customization need to allow widget autostart in "Security Center" to allow widget to work.
Testing, bug reports and any feedback are very appreciated.
App can be installed over entering promocodes directly, or following installation link(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sapphire_project.screenwidget) and choosing promocode istead of payment.
In version 1.7.18.14:
Multi-tap support for switching between multiple timeouts
On boot restore last state used
Multi-tap feature on/off in settings(by default is off)
6 user definable timeouts. Customize it as you wish it.
Better Android Oreo support
Here the promocodes go:

Did you grant change system settings permission to the app?
Also any Toast messages when clicking? Could you please provide screenshot from widget? I will investigate, what could be wrong

Yes, I will re-install, try again and report back.
EDIT: I'm still having the issue. I click 'Configure', enable the setting and then add the widget to the homescreen. It displays my default timeout (60 secs) but doesn't change when I click it.
EDIT 2: I've checked and the app was granted the permission according to System > Apps > ScreenWidget > Permissions

If you could provide logcat, that would help. I will install that Android version on emulator and try to reproduce the issue.

I hope situation is fixed(at least it worked well on emulator with Android Oreo on board).
Please note, that since version 1.7 you'll need to remove widget from homescreen and readd it. It is necessary, as project structure changed to fix bug. My cinsere appologies for any inconvinience cauzed.
Version 1.7 is now moved to Stable

If someone willing to help with localizations, attach translated files in this topic. I'm gonna be out of here for a while, as my grandfather died, so will reply with delay.
Have a nice day everyone

Maybe someone could help me translating 2 files attaches above into a good German, please?

Thread first post and version information updated. Mentioned version is currently on Google's play Beta channel, but is stable(Google is slow to roll out release). Currenly application can be installed for free without any promocodes(till 25th of March 23:59 UTC). Any feedback, bug reports and suggestions are welcomed.
Recent version changelog:
Added settings to application.
-Can now restore last used state on boot.
-Can show boot completed message.
-Can enable/disable multi tap support.
-Added smart multi tap algorythm, that still allows using multitap, but in case of one only tap - it's processed faster: 350ms, instead of 700ms.
-If you see "No license" message, simply wait a bit, or click on widget to retry(that can occur on network issues, but for very short time and basically once).

[APP] SayMyName Dessert

Hello,
At the moment I'm working on a new version of SayMyName Dessert. It's my first app (but it's already on the Android Market for more than a year ) and I just can't stop developing it. Mostly, I blame my users for that. You send me feature-requests, bug-reports, good feedback, bad feedback... even donations!
Currently there are two versions of SayMyName available at the Android Market. One for Cupcakes, and one for Donuts and beyond.
With the upcoming version of SayMyName, I want to merge those versions, fix old, very annoying bugs and add some often requested features.
Why I'm telling you that? Because I need even more feedback, more testers, more contributers D) and some guys who translate my app into various languages.
So, if you want to help me, please download the attached .apk and give me some feedback / requests / whatever comes to your mind. Just leave a reply here at xda or send me a mail. (tomtasche AT gmail)
Thank you very much
Tom
P.S.: If you want to try the old, buggy version of SayMyName, feel free to search the Android Market for "SayMyName Dessert".
edit:
I forgot to mention what this app is for.
Official market-description:
"Want to know who's calling you without looking at your phone? SayMyName reads out loud the name saved in your adressbook and tells you who's calling.
- reads SMS, GMail and K9-Mail too
- very customizable
- discreet mode
- Locale Plug-in
- open-source
- supports non-latin languages too
See website for changelog, etc."
edit:
Changelog:
- reads nicknames!
- fixes, fixes, fixes.
- much more
- mute gestures
- read number-/mail-type (custom labels supported too!)
- auto translate messages (enable "translate")
- improved widget
- fixes
- pause music during speech on phones with Android 2.2
- sk, cs and de translations by David K. (thanks! )
- supports people who can't find TTS Extended in Android Market / don't have access to Android Market
Planned features in near future:
- more translations (any volunteers?)
- bluetooth (maybe I found somebody who can help me! )
edit:
If you want to help translate, download this file and translate the text between the tags:
Code:
<string name="...">TRANSLATE THIS</string>
Return the translated file to me afterwards.
Thank you very much
Tom
PS: Please let me know if you want me to mention your name / mail-address / website.
Shall report back tomorrow. Used to love this app!

Thanks! Tell me if you miss something.
I just tried the app for SMS notifications, but it gets interrupted by the notification. I'd like the notification to come first, followed by the announce and then the message. As it is now half the announcement gets killed by the notification.
I tried setting both Reading break and speech delay to 5 (seconds?), but the announcement started immediately anyway.
The app also seems to open a TTS-channel on start, causing noticeable hiss for a couple of seconds.
And the locale-plug-in, is it a separate download? Couldn't see it in Tasker even if I force-stopped it.
Your app seems to perform all the functions I want from TTS-notifications, now I only have to wait for the engine to not sound like a broken record in my language.

Nice, you found a bug! Little workaround until I upload the fix: set the speech delay in SayCaller Settings.

Locale Plug-In is made for Locale 1.0 (beta). I didn't update it yet, because I thought nobody would use it.
I'll note that on my ToDo-list, thanks!

Which Android version performs on your phone? Everything under 1.6 has a REALLY bad voice:

Tasker has Locale plug-in support. I would like to use Tasker to enable and disable your program whenever I place my phone in the car dock.

Yup, that's the voice.... Froyo (CM6) on Nexus. Truth be told I don't really like the english voice either, it's just far too synthetic compared to some of the other TTS-engines out there:

Unfortunately I'm not responsible for the voice. It comes from Android, but the AT&T sample is very impressive!
I've uploaded another update at the first post, which fixes speech-delay.

edit:
By the way, you can change the voice in "Speech settings" (linked in SayMyName). Change the "Engine" to "Pico TTS" and you'll get a female voice.

I do realise that. I'll just have to sit still and wait until either google, or someone else grants us a more pleasant engine.
I've uploaded another update at the first post, which fixes speech-delay.

Excellent.
A slightly more convoluted feature request: Do you think it would be possible to change the TTS-language based on which contact a text message comes from? Say for instance if the contacts had TTS=en_US or TTS=sv_SE or any other preferred language in the notes-section?
The reason for this request is of course that I receive messages in different languages depending on the contact, so if I just decide on a language half the time it'll sound even worse than necessary.

Thanks for the hint, but it doesn't seem to work. Probably because I don't use EN/FR/DE/ES.

Now I'm off till Friday. Thanks for testing! Keep reporting.
When I tried the old version from the market the notifications didn't pause the music or podcasts so the text reading was down out by the audio. Using btunes for music and google listen for podcasts. Any progress on this?

Android should pause your music automatically if there's a notification-sound. But I'll see if I can pause music too. Thanks.

Can't get any of these to work on my x10 mini (Android 1.6). Old version from Market works fine but when I install these and try to open them I get a popup saying "The requested item could not be found".
Any idea what's going on Tom?
EDIT: Tried the earlier .6.3 and it seems the app is trying to search the Market for "pname:com.google.tts" doesn't find anything matching that though and just sticks on that screen
EDIT 2: Couldn't find the files on Market but the newest version of it is here:

[App] Forget Me Not v1.0 - A ToDo List Manager

Hello All,
This is the first app published by Cuibono Studios (my brand name) and so far I have 38 downloads and 64% active installs. Forget Me Not is a ToDo list manager for Android 1.6 and up.
For more info please check it up on the Android Market: search for "Forget Me Not" and its the app with a red and black pencil icon. (Can't post the link here because I'm a new poster to this forum)..
Guys if you can, please download it and post a review and/or rate it (and also please discuss your thoughts on this thread). It would really help me out as this is my first app...
Thanks in advance,
Roshnal (President/Developer of Cuibono Studios)
Hi Roshnal,
I just published my first app here and I was able to get tons of feedback from the members of this forum, and since this is your first app, I would also like to return the favour that others gave to me.
Okay, enough pleasantries.
I downloaded and installed your app
I really like the clean interface, but I did have a couple of bugs.
When I first opened the app, a dialog opened stating that I don't have any lists and if I would like to create one. I then created a new list and the prompt came up again even though I already created a new list.
After adding items to the list, I clicked on them to mark the as read, (the read items were really difficult fr me to see though, almost the same colour as the background)
I tried then marking them as unread by long clicking...all except the last reverted to an unread state. I tried a couple of times, but it was still "grayed" out.
I hope this helps a bit and keep at it.
Since I have more posts than you I can post links (its below so others can go directly to it)

How many tasks did you have on that list? I also found out that if the list scrolls, some of the tasks are grayed out even if they are marked as "unread" in the database. And if you go back from the list (to the lists page) and click the list again, did it work?
I have no idea why this is; But I will see to this also.
Look forward to the first update coming soon!
Thanks again,
Roshnal

But before that can you please test it and let me know if there are any features you would like? And any bugs or complaints?
Regards,
Roshnal
I only had like 4 items on the list, so there was no scrolling. When I exited the app and re-entered it was still greyed out. I retried by long clicking on item again, but the still thing happened.
Strange... I didn't see that...
But thanks for informing me. I will release an update soon.

Thanks for this Roshnal.

Just about to try it now.
Hi,
Suggest moving the task creation buttons (create next, done) to the top of the screen to save the user from having to hide keyboard.
Add to the long press functionality of the list view the option to add a new task.
On the task list, add a long press or (and?) menu option to edit the task. Likewise to rename a list.
Good luck with your first application.

Feedback
Hi Roshnal, I have installed the app this morning and so far, so good!
I will try to look at it in detail to give you some proper feedback, for now I have one suggestion- when you open a list you can't see the name of whichever list you have open- you can probably work it out but it would be nice if you could see it somewhere on the page- perhaps where it currently says "Forget Me Not" you could include/replace it with the list name? Just a thought!
Thanks for the work so far, this looks to be really promising!
GileZ
Nice app ... installed and using . very good and clean .
Feedback
Just tried on my Samsung Galaxy S2 and have the following feedback:
1- Adding a task does not increment the task counters but just stays at (0/0)
2- Selecting "Mark as Incomplete" does not change colour of task but just stays dimmed.
That's all for now from your neighboring country of Maldives

@ikaola i just see this app from xda's twitter and i interested, how this app simple, beatiful UI, and i like so much fake cover feature
but this app has main issue like other apps lock in playstore, when i look to settings>>manage apps>i choose ZDlock and tap on force stop button, yeah this apps became useless.
well, no big problem at all, because my friends and others doesn't know this way, but i really happy when you add feature to stop it
and if you can, i prefer use fake cover without turn on app lock

I agree, having the possibility to have the fake cover only would be great.
Anyway very nice and usefull app :good:
great job man, but after i lock gallery everyone cam go inside via whatsupp. Thats just one tip from me. but as i said nice app.
Very nice app with a beautiful interface!
Only one suggestion: When using the Number Lock I would like to be able to hide the flashing of the numbers when I press them.
Just like the invisible mode for the Pattern Lock.
Other than that the app is perfect for me.
Good app!!!when i enabled system desistalation for prevent , the app work fine,
But i erase data, i havent protection in my apps.
Can you solve it please?

This is a neat concept, but the app is not re-starting the lock service when the app is killed, but I'm not sure what a better route would be without using root. Users should consider this app more of a novelty and not a security application. That being said, the app is nicely done, bravo!
ThankYou...But :
Is the pin protictionis also included...or not ?
AnyWay...Thx
very cool and much better than those crappy apps on playStore.

Now try locking the settings and redo what you did. It wont let you kill it .
I am using this app since it has been released yesterday and it works perfectly! Only sometimes you can work around the lock when fake cover is enabled: press OK once when the popup shows, then open recent apps and click on the locked app. (this is working for my 1/3 times)
But that's not a major problem for me it's a GREAT app!

Ok, I long press uninstall, long press app info, I install a process killer from the playstore, I use the built in process killing for the launcher (that many phones have), boot into safe mode etc etc. Not really trying to play cat and mouse here, like I said it is a neat app, but shouldn't be relied on for security as there is many ways to circumvent the "protection" offered by it. Unless it is built into the firmware, it is not going to be fool proof.
Hey,
I just saw this app on the XDA-portal. I want to thank you for this amazing app. I love the features, its the first app-locker I actually like. Def worth installing and trying. Keep it coming, I love it.

Thanks a lot...I'll take a look.
For xposed, you need to flash the Xposed flashable zip (if you have 5.0, use the SDK21 version) and install the Xposed Installer app. Both are available in the official Xposed thread for LP/MM. Just make sure you backup your system partition first.
EDIT: Can you try this build @CondomPack
(It seems there was some error finding a certain drawable resource, that's why it was crashing for you. There was no reason for that error as the drawable is present after all, so it was probably cuz of a dirty build. I did a clean build)

(I figured out the exact issue and used one of two methods to fix it. If it still crashes, no need for logs, just tell me and I'll try the other method)
Movies by Flixster
Is this app work like Flixster and IMDb ? if YES can i log in with my account ? Thanks
Edited: Never mind the question above i found out already.. The app has a lot of potential, but I wouldn't release app if i can't watch trailers or write Reviews yet!! just pictures there...
Anyway keep the good work!!

Whoa thanks for the cool idea, I looked it up, and I think there's a way to access user accounts via the API allowing you to rate, review etc. Of course it is way outside the scope of the actual Nanodegree project, so it'll have to wait till the important stuff like displaying trailers and reviews is done (which is kinda easy, but I'm in the middle of exams at college so can't really put in a proper coding session these days). About that, yeah the app is pretty incomplete, but it probably seems even more so cuz I included the empty layouts and put "Coming soon..." all over the place (a bad design decision, it makes it seem even more incomplete, but whatever). As for release, well, I released the app on XDA Labs as sort of test builds, to get an idea of how the app behaves on different devices and fix specific issues that may exist (for example the one @CondomPack just helped me fix) early on. Once the app is properly done and ready for actual release, I might put it up on the Play Store, who knows

Awww yisss, bug report closed, I guess. High five! :highfive:
Thanks a lot for all the help (and consider updating your review on Labs )
Just wondering if the app will learn by which movies you heart and make suggestions for other movies also the heart should be shown overlayed on the movie poster once it's implemented
dude,can we dload?
Is there a download feature?

The thing about indicating favorite movies with a heart overlay is a cool idea, will be sure to keep that in mind when implementing that. (Unfortunately I have exams coming up, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to get any major work done on the app anytime soon)
As for recommendations based on favorites, the API allows me to fetch movies similar to a specific movie, so yeah, I think I could do one of two things:
-Show a snackbar when you favorite a movie, with a button which shows a popup with similar movies
-create an entirely new section for showing similar movies
But first I want to implement a tablet layout and TMDb account sign in which will allow syncing your Favorites.

I don't think that will be included in the app. This app is meant to be a sort of guide to choose what movie to watch... The Movie DB does seem to provide links to a website www.fan.tv which let's you buy the movie from Amazon or buy tickets, but that's not really in the books for now. Maybe once I'm satisfied with all the planned features I might add that...
Dropped some major updates, which I think deserve a bump to the thread.
New features include search function, favorites (saved offline), dual pane layout (landscape), account login (no account features yet) etc. Check change log in OP for complete list.
As usual, I recommend downloading using XDA Labs so you get update notifications and can leave reviews.

[APP][6.0] Beta Maniac -- Life of a beta tester

This app is for Beta Testers only
The Google Play app allows us to manage our beta programs but have you ever wanted to participate in a limited number beta program?
(The most common examples are WhatsApp, Facebook, Android Auto and LinkedIn, at least for my country, Italy)
Every time you have to go to Google Play and see if you can access the beta program.
A few years ago (even before the Google Play app had a section dedicated to the quick view of our beta programs in which we participate) I had developed an app, for private use, to overcome this problem, and after adding some small personalization and options I would also like to make it available to this community.
The app is now available on Google Play, contains ads and subscription (subscription remove ads and unlock the auto join feature).
People who bought the old "remove ads" in-app purchase is premium user for life now (no need to subscribe to get the new auto join feature, thanks for the support.
At the moment the app is available different languages, but if you want to participate in the translation you can download the xml file at the second post.
Let me know your feedbacks about it.

FAQ and Privacy
FAQ
Q- Why should I use this app instead of Beta Checker or Beta Lister or any other similar app?
A- The first one does not check anything, you have to manually go in Google Play and share the link with the app, which is pretty useless, once you are in Google Play you can directly see if there is a beta and can join or leave from Google Play itself.
The second (which I cannot find the link anymore, probably the dev just removed it from Google Play, at least in my Country) does lists from the installed apps the ones which have a beta version (using the dev cookie, or an alt account) but it is almost useless, because if a beta is available in US does not mean it is available in other countries. And you cannot take action anyways, you need to go in Google Play (app or web) to join the beta. Using the dev cookie means that the app is not aware of your joined betas too.
Q- I don t trust the Google form for sign-in, why don' t you use official Google Sign In API?
A- Google Sign in API generates a token for third party backends to auth the user. The problem is that Google Play does not have API for third party developers to auth users.
Q- Why there is no auto sign-in or Google sign-in?
A- Currently you are not signin-in to Beta Maniac, you are signin-in to Google, and the eventual token you get using those facilities is not spendible in Google Play. What the app does is the same thing you would do manually, no API used.
Q- I don t want to sign in then, what can I do?
A- Simply do not use the app.
Q- Why cannot sign-in even if my connection is good?
A- Check out if you are on a VPN or custom DNS network. If so disable it and login.
Q- Does the app collects any data?
A- The app collects anonymous data (phone model, android version, country) for analytics purpose and crash reports, handled by Google using Firebase.
Q- The app was completely free, why now there are ads and I have to pay to turn them off?
A- Because the most of users complained and rated one star for no real reason. You had it for free, the only thing you had to do was keep the app average rating high enough to be considered a good app, but you didn' t. You had even the chance to donate, only 30-35 people did (and they will not see any ads now).
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=82630837&postcount=314
Q- I bought the "remove ads" in-app purchase, do I need to subscribe?
A- Of course not, you are already a life time premium user, thanks for the support.

For people having issues with ad blockers: it looks like you'll have trouble only when using DNS-based ad blocking. I personally use AdGuard on my device, which by default uses a VPN with a custom DNS to filter the ads. I normally leave the DNS-based filtering disabled since it sometimes breaks some sites and in fact, by using only the VPN-based filtering I didn't experience any login issues on Beta-Maniac, even with AdGuard active...

If not already contributed, here's the french translated strings file.
If I may report that small issue :
Despite using XDA adfree version of your very welcomed app, I noticed it couldn't get past the post log-in screen (got No connection / Try again - with no avail') if device is connected with ad-blocking private DNS on Android 9+) or to a router set with ad-blocking DNS.
No biggy but took quite some time to figure out the reason.
You might want to change that or add a message to let users know their ad-blocker prevents the app from going further.
After initial set up though, it's working fine with or without DNS ad-blocking.
VPN usage was not an issue for me, only DNS level ad-blocking.
(Tested with v1)

Wow nice! I added a new string (forgot to upload newer one). Could you translate it on the fly?
No connection, if you are using a VPN or a custom DNS you will not be able to login. Disable it and try again

I had but since a basic VPN connection didn't harm my attempt on my first device running Oreo, I had assumed it was a broad statement to cover possible issues but it seemed to be mostly related to the ads mechanism in place in your code.
Just wished to help by clarifying.
(IMO however, having to turn a VPN or a custom DNS setting off, even temporarily, should not be forced on any user for doing so given the privacy implications some might want to maintain)

Sorry this caused you such trouble. I just can't avoid using french correctly though.. (yeah we can be PITAs for many things ?, I know.) I mean, without the apostrophe, it's not proper french so hoping to see them in displayed text for french locales.
Apologies again.

Oh, that. Well, sorry anyways : I used Solid Explorer to do that while commuting before even testing your app prior to doing so.
(Also, I don't know what that correct way of using them is in XML, is this its ASCII character that should be used ?)
I checked quickly without deleting app's data so don't know about initial setup text.
But there's a typo :
"Bêtas fermée uniquement" should be "Bêtas fermées uniquement"
There's also a setting title I imprecisely translated :
"Liste des filtres" should be "Filtrer la liste" to actually be meaningful.
Spotted the "system" choice related to the theme settings in the strings but can't yet see it in the app.
Finally, I spoke too soon as for the VPN/DNS issue :
It indeed prevents from entering any app's beta program page setting in the app but Scans can and will be performed normally.
I do reiterate my previous statement regarding having to disable either or both in order for your app to work. It's a radical setup change impacting all apps for just one to work normally..

fixed the strings. Anyway no, it s not an ascii problem, it s just the android requirement to put slashes before apostrophe. I use a normal network, so I didn t figured out this problem before today, I know that only by feedbacks. I ll upload the app with translation fixed

Oh, gotcha. I'm obviously no dev, just a glad-to-learn enthusiast so thanks for that.
Thanks and sorry again for those typos/mistranslation hence the extra work.
