"Mismatched partition size (recovery)" error upon flashing TWRP into Moto X (2nd gen)
Followed these steps on the tutorial called "[HOW TO] Unlock your Moto X Developer Edition, install TWRP, and how to flash images" on elementalxdesigns
On step #3 of "How to install TWRP recovery" I got a "Mismatched partition size (recovery)" error on my phone and when I try to boot into recovery from bootloader it says "Boot up failed"

Hello, and welcome to XDA! That's probably because the guide you are following is for the Moto X (1st generation). If you go to the official TWRP page, you will find the correct recovery for the Moto X (2014). For further help, you can post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/help. You will need to register for that. You will find roms to flash here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/development and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/orig-development.
Good luck!

Hi! You can use this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Flashing_Guide_-_Android.
I have some quentions:
Hey guys, i was wondering if it's possible to flash a custom rom without unlocking the bootloader and without installing other recovery.
Or if it's possible to edit the stock rom , and add new features , mostly customize , and flash it with locked bootloader and original recovery.
I heard somewhere that in some cases it can be done with locked bootloader .
What happen if i try to flash a custom rom with locked bootloader and original recovery?
Could this brick my Moto G ?
Could the bootloader be locked forever?
I wan't to keep it fully original ( Bootloader and recovery) and install Android 6.0
If this not possible i want to edit the stock Lollipop 5.1.1 rom , add some features and tweaks , and flash it , would be possible?

Short answer: no!
Long answer: No - the only notable exceptions to this are the Bump-compatible LG phones like the LG G3, in which the ROM images/recovery images have a signature key appended to the images so that the bootloader will approve of said images and therefore said images can be installed onto an LG phone.
As a result of the way Motorola/Lenovo, HTC, Huawei, Sony et al works with custom image approval, the only way for you to install a custom image is to FIRST UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER, and THEN INSTALL A CUSTOM IMAGE!

Hi aha360 thanks for you reply.
:good:
I have one more question :
Is it possible to root my moto g without unlocking the bootloader?
Root would bring me useful features , but i don't want to end with a bricked moto g.
As you noticed i want my moto g as original as possible, but with some tweaks.
I didn't understand if i can edit stock lollipop rom and flash it.
I just wanted to have Android 6.0 in my moto g , but that is not possible with Moto by Lenovo

Sadly, no - I have done my research on this and unless the OS/ROM itself has an exploit that allows root access, you'd also have to unlock the bootloader just to have root access on a stock ROM.
It sucks, as I also ideally wanted to just get root access on a stock ROM on my newly-acquired Moto G LTE (Peregrine) so like I said, for all things XDA-friendly mod-related, Motorola/Lenovo et al says 'unlock bootloader and lose your warranty or STFU'.

The exploit looks like it is based on Jelly Bean and KitKat, so provided that you haven't upgraded, you could try it out, otherwise you are out of luck.

Then you're **** outta luck - you'll have to unlock your bootloader then.
Hello!
I want to unlock my bootloader and root my phone to flash a custom ROM. I have many questions regarding this:
1. http://www.howtogeek.com/239798/how-to-unlock-your-android-phones-bootloader-the-official-way/ This link has instructions to unlock bootloader the official way. It is written there that bootloader of some specific models of some phones might not be unlockable, and it told me to check on XDA developers. So is OnePlus X E1003 Onyx's bootloader unlockable? If not, it is written that I will need to use the unofficial method given at XDA developers.
2. After unlocking my bootloader using ADB, fastboot and all that, do I need to flash a custom recovery like TWRP, CloCkworks mod, etc. ? If yes, pls tell me where to find it and how to flash it!!
3. Do I neet to root my device before flashing a custom ROM? Also, how to root my device manually using adb? Should I use apps like Kingroot for rooting my phone. If yes, pls suggest apps other than kingroot! and also tell me how to root manually using zipped files!
4. What is the safest and ideal way to flash a custom ROM? As OnePlus X hasn't yet received Marshmellow update, is it advisable to flash CM13? Is there any OxygenOS v 3.3 Rom for Oneplus x?? pls helP!!
I have a Moto g5 Plus with the amazon ads firmware and I don't know how but I managed to unlock de bootloader, even enable system ui tuner and everything
my pc recognize the device in adb
the questions here is :
1- its it secure for me to flash the non amz stock rom?
2-how can I flash this rom? (if the answer up there was a YES)

You need to unlock the bootloader, get a copy of the boot.img, use the magisk app to patch the boot.img, then flash that patched img, with a pc.
[Guide] Root Motorola with Magisk (UnLocked Bootloader)(Non-TWRP method)
Root Motorola Devices with Magisk Note: This method has been working with most Moto Devices that the Bootloader can be UnLocked. If the Bootloader cannot be Unlocked this method will not work. Please only use this as a reference. If you require...
