Copying files from an Android Device to desktop - General Questions and Answers

Hello All,
I want to write an application on Windows that allows users to copy files between an Android's device and a PC. Is there any possible ways by which we can transfer the files without enabling developer option(USB debugging). Could someone point me in the right direction.

You don't need USB debugging to copy files to or from PC to Android.
Just connect the phone and set USB mode to MTP.

How to run ActiveSync to browse file sys with a broken screen?

Hi,
I have a HTC kaiser with a broken screen and would like to get into the file
system of this device via active sync. The device start up without active sync enabled so when I connect using usb to pc I can't connect.
I was wondering if anyone knows how I could connect to this device and browse the file system.
One idea I've tried that haven't been successful yet it to use
and autorun.exe file in the 2577 folder of the sd card to trigger active sync
to run. Haven't been able to figure out how to do that. Also was thinking maybe could enable bluetooth and connect using a second device.
Finally I tried to get the repllog.exe off another device to place on the sd
and rename to autorun.exe but doesn't let me copy since it on the rom.
Thanks!

[Q] How to get the files in WP7?

Hi all, how can I get a file from windows phone 7 such as the camerasettingsmanifest.XXXX.xml or others. My phone is Omnia7. With WP7 Root Tool, I can browse and operate files in this system on the phone, but I don't know how to get them out. Anyone can help me? Thanks.
Install schaps WPDM, explore to the file you want, copy it on the phone to My Documents folder on the phone (as if it is being used by the system you cannot transfer it directly to your desktop), and then transfer that to your PC.
Gr8,thank you so much!
No Problem - here is the link (you need to be on NoDo; no Mango support yet).

[Q] synchronize a file using usb

Hi,
I'm developping an android application that need a file generated from a web application. the problem is that this application is for a hospital where we can not use wifi to download this generated file (xml) directly from the web application.
Thats why I'm searching for another meathod to synchronize the file and to transfert it to the tablet.
Could you give me some propositions ?
Is there some open source application to synchronize a pc folder with a tablet forder throught MTP protocol ?
is there any good java library ?
I found two libraries but :
jMTP successfully recognizes my Android devices but as of this writing there is no support for file transfer of any kind. All I've managed to do is go through the file system.
jusbpmp is supposed to be able to but its awfully buggy and fails to recognize some of the devices I'm trying to develop for.
Thank you,
You can use a MicroSD card.
Why not use ADB?
I sync my Kyocera Rise nicely with ADB and adbsync.exe

[Completed] HIdden files on damaged galaxy S6

Hello... I have an issue that I hope some one can assist me with.
Synopsis: Dropped my galaxy s6 to the point that the screen no longer functions. It is just black. So I am unable to to do anything. There are files in a folder that I hid by adding a '.' to the front of the file name. So those files are still hidden. When I access the directories via usb on my laptop and copy the folder where the files are, the hidden files are not copied.
the phone does not have USB debugging turned on...
Is there anyway for me to retrieve these files?
thank you in advance...

Hi and thank you for using XDA Assist
About your problem, on windows before copying your files you should first unhide the hidden files in the folder options.
If you are on Linux instead you should make CTRL + H in order to unhide the files.
Hope that's help

Thank you for your response. I am running windows 8.1 and I am able to see the NON hidden files and directories when I connect the phone to the laptop via usb. I see the files by going to windows explorer. However the windows "Show Hidden Files" option under "folder options", does not show the android files I am hoping to UNHIDE.
Normally I would access the files on the phone, by using the phones "show hidden files" option. However that possibility is removed because the screen on the phone is completely unresponsive.

Hi again, well that's not possible, a hidden file is a hidden file and there aren't more types of hidden files (as i know), keep also the possibility that maybe the files are no more or the File manager which you used on the SG6 to hide the files are available only through that file manager. It is really hard to work with the phone if the screen is not responding (broken)
