my power button stopped working a few months ago, and I decided to buy a replacement button on ebay, but couldn't find any replacement guides or videos online, and the button appears to have real tiny soldering contacts on it. can it be done at home? anyone knows a thing about this? thanks
Not sure if what you're looking for is available but I've been without a power button for over a year and a half. It takes a little getting used to but make sure to have access to / knowledge of ADB fastboot. Two apps i find necessary are Lock Screen Widget and Quick Reboot (if rooted). If travelling, keep a charger with you but luckily with our battery size (in decent condition), this is manageable. If you mess with custom ROMs, follow directions to a T. If you have any questions, feel free to message me.
I believe this is a testament to the quality of this phone, willing to put up with it in lieu of no power button.

I dropped my S710 a couple of days ago and have smashed the screen. Two questions:
1) Is it possible to Hard Reboot the phone with a combination of keys/buttons in order to re-install the ROm and this clear all held information?
2) How easy is it to replace the screen, are there different screen types that I need ot be aware of and are there instructions anywhere on how to do it?
Thanks

Click to collapse
yes you need to press left and right softkey while pressing power then release power.
2.)you can get replacement screens in ebay. youst look that you by the ones for htc vox or similar devices
From my personal experience: avoid the cheap replacement LCD. They work ok, but the brightness is very low, just a bit more than the original dimmed. Try to get a cheap (worn or otherwise broken) with the orginal LCD instead.
Edit:
Replacement is for experienced only. If you never opened a delicate small device and reassembled it yourself you should not try.
Thanks .........
Thanks for the prompt responses ...........
i have tried the hard reboot but i cannot seem to get it to work the screen is locked and i have had too many attempts at unlocking. normally after 3 failed attempts it asks for a combination of key strokes before i am allowed to try to unlock again. but because the screen is broken i cannot see what they are!
Are there instructions anywhere on how to un-assemble the S710 in order to replace the screen?
There is a service manual floating around, it should be in the Wiki. If the link is down, google the file name or post and I'll have somebody send it to you.
It's a slider device, it has a lot of moving parts. You'll want to have experience or some good manual dexterity to try fixing it. I've taken mine apart many times without ill-effects.
Hey all,
I have a question, that may seem out of the oridinary but it does apply to me.. Ever since i sent my phone to my provider to fix an issue it has come back and the front half of the phone (the screen) has been very loose, when i press the power button i have to pretty much use both my hands otherwise the screen will move slighty and i cant press in the power button to take the phone out of standby..
My question is, would it be possible to remap the power button to something like, say the button in the middle of the phone at the bottom? (in between the answer and hang up buttons). And have it work if i hold it down for a few seconds or so?
I am just getting frustrated when i have to take my phone out of standby to check it and have this issue..
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thankyou!
you could try this: http://www.fuzemobility.com/wake-up-your-fuze-without-the-power-key/
why don't u go take it back to your provider and have them fix what they broke?
Thats an option as well right?
It is an option, only problem is is that they will have my phone for 3 weeks (as they did last time) and i will be without it. They will give me a loan phone but its an old ****ty one and i need email etc. for work so its no good.
Anyone having a hard time hitting the power/lock button mine seems loose and i have to push hard sometime on it.
i notice some "wiggle" in my volume up button. Not A lot, and sometimes i think its my mind. I get around it by pressing it once, and simply using onscreen to increase or decrease. (what i meant was i try to use it as less as possible. almost as if to preserve its life)
If you can, exchange it at the store, or look into an app to shutdown on screen. Youll have to press to turn it on, but wont have to do it twice with an app.
I got it through amazon i will have to see what they can do
same problem here (i've a similar post in the forum).
I waited hoping for improvements, but button got harder to press and now i've to rma my device
If fresh purchase, ask for a replacement
Yes, I also had the power button stop working. And, to make matters even better, I got into CWM (or CMW or whatever) to tried to put stock OS back on and got STUCK there. No power buttton, no ability in CWM to go to Backup menu to reflash stock, and no ability to reboot from the main menu!
The power button is cheap, cheap, cheap; you may have trouble getting it fixed if you've rooted (because rooting kills the warranty) and can't reflash stock.
Very disappointed with ASUS on this issue.
Mine have this stupid prob and If I can turn the transformer on It won't shutdown bec powerbutton won't work for 3 sec press and hold , I can't even return the transformer cause I'm in iran and there is no warranty and service out here ,
some one please tell me what can I do???!?!!!
Hey guys. Starting yesterday, I began having an issue with the power button of my DS. At first, it didn't want to work at all (didn't respond to presses), then it "drowned" almost into the phone's body (I could barely press it), and then it began doing thing by itself!
It seems that there's something wrong with either button's contacts inside, or maybe some parts of the pressure mechanism broke, because it started to access the power menu by itself, one time after another, which made the usage almos impossible, and then it went crazy with locking the phone (as if you would press the button once), and wouldn't let the DS to sleep, as the button is "being pressed" all the time.
A few hours later it started to work properly as it should (no "going crazy" stuff), but this morning - the problem appeared again.
I really don't what to do, because I don't have anything tight enough to stick behind the button and raise it a little. What should I do?
P.S. I'm not going to disassemble/reassemble it, 'cause I need a phone lol
I don't understand, you seem to describe a physical problem (the button "drowning" in the case, that's not correct behavior !!) but you don't want to disassemble your phone. I can only advise you to take it to a repair center as it will not be solved by software...
Hey i have a Nexus S with the same problem! I was wondering if there is a way to disable it all together (software-wise).?.?
Known issue that can happen to our lovely device, my wife's device currently had the same problem, don't let your battery run out our you may not be able to restart your phone, I'd suggest that you install a sweep to wake kernel and consider a visit to the service Centre, especially if your still covered by warranty
Sywepd form my DsereiS
I apologize in advance if this has been posted before, but i have had a look around and cannot see anyone else with the same problem.
I also apologize if I this is not the correct format, this is my first post here :X
My brother brought my phone to me last week with a problem with his screen (shown is this YouTube video at the start: (this is the link following the youtube.com/ part) watch?v=4pks4idq4YI ). I fixed this by hard resetting the phone and it was fine for about a week. Today, he brought it to me and the screen was like this: (this is the bit following the imgur.com part ) /MK6eJdD . The screen reacts and changes slightly to touch, and the power button turns the screen on and off. If i press and hold the power the phone turns off and vibrates (like normal, just without the choice saying power off etc.). When turned on (by holding the power button) the screen instantly returns to how it was before it was turned off, just a different shape/pattern of the stuff on the screen.
I would like to know if i need to replace the USB flex cable to fix the problem. I am fairly confident that i can do this, (as i am doing DT and electronics for GCSE), and so, if possible, I would also like to know where i should buy an official one (if this is indeed the problem). I am in the UK if that helps with the decision .
Thank you in advance,
G
