Hi guys
Have a Galaxy S7 (uk O2 unlocked) that was working great until the latest ota update about a month ago (Android 7).
Since then it will not connect to PC or OTG adaptor.
The only thing it will do via USB is charge.
I've enabled developer options and chose MTP connection. No luck.
I've done the *#0808# and set MPT and reboot. No luck
I've look closely at the USB charging pins and they look clean and not damaged.
I've changed to USB cable. No luck
I've tried a different USB port on PC and different OTG adaptor. No luck
I've done a full factory reset. No luck
The thing is, I am willing to try installing previous versions of Android software but without a PC connection I don't know how I'm going to proceed.
The phone is not rooted (and I do not want to root it).
How can I fix this problem?
Generally a problem with the USB port/cable as the charging and data pins are separate so one can fail while the other works
Quite a few people have had to replace the phone charging port, if it wont' connect in Download Mode, then the firmware update is not the cause, download mode has nothing to do with firmware
Ah, so you suggest putting the phone into download mode ( vol down + home + power) and then connect to a pc?
This should eliminate the firmware been at fault?
Correct?

Yep, and is also the way to flash a new stock ROM with ODIN
Just tried this .... nothing
Just to make sure, I put a friend's S7 in download mode and it connects to the pc just fine.
What's the cheapest way to repair the micro usb port in the UK?

Cheapest would probably be eBay and doing it yourself, but the unit is sealed and needs a heatgun to remove the back
Plenty of tutorials on YT though if you want to give it a shot, next cheapest would be one of those dodge phone repair shops but I wouldn't be trusting them my with S7, or if it's still under warranty, Samsung
I've had a look at my paperwork and it was part of the O2 refresh deal that came with 12 months warranty.
I've cancelled my contact with them but paid for the S7 in full and it 11 months in.
Even though I'm no longer with O2, they should be legally required to fix it, right?

I'm also with o2 for mine, when I had problems with the camera I contacted Samsung UK via twitter who offered me a courier to collect free of charge and have it repaired under warranty
Try both, don't suppose it matters really but might have more luck with Samsung as you've paid off o2 already

Hi guys,
New to this forum, and I'm looking for some help. Bought a used E650 from eBay, and it's all good bar 2 things - The ROM version is now outdated, and the USB port does not work when I try to use ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Centre with it Not too familiar with SmartPhones, but I'm hoping to do some C# deving on this handset, so any help would be appreciated.

Does the USB port on your PC work with other devices?
Can you flash from an sd card like the himalaya?
And if you fix it you can get an up to date update from the orange website!

Yes, it's the port on the phone that's giving me grief

I'm not too clued up on HTC phones or Smartphones in general, but I'll have a look to see if I can do just that. It's only updating the phone that I want to use it for tbh =/

So that port works. What about the cable. Have you got any other mini usb devices you could try and plug in?
Just thought you should narrow it down and make sure its the phone, and not the cable/port/something else...
When you say the port doesn't work, what does it do? Do you get the new hardware sound when you plug it in?

Just to clarify (And no offence) I'm almost done my HND in Computer Networking, and I've been repairing computers and servers since about 14. It is the phone which is faulty =/ I really wish it was the cable though. I have tried everything, it is definately the phone.
I have contacted the eBay seller, and he's willing to swap the handset for another, but tbh if I could simply update the ROM with a newer Stock ROM I'd be happy without the USB port.
Fair enough. Was just trying to help. Good luck with the replacement. Better off that way anyway, its a ***** not being able to transfer files with USB.
I doubt it that the device has a defective electronic component. Most probably the wiggling of the USB when attaching/detaching the cable has over time broken the soldering on the PBA. But first control the socket for dirt or bended or incomplete contacts.
If you are not a noob what delicate stuff is concerned, disassemble the device and re-solder all contacts of the USB socket.
Hello suddenly my nexus s stopped connecting with data with the pc it only charges, tried with 3 diffrent computers with diffrent os , no menu popping on nexus and nothing connected on the computer(like i didnt connect anything), i removed the battery left it for some time installed stock rom still nothing. It was acting normally for a second and the other it stopped any help appreciated!
Are you sure you're using the cable that came with the phone? I have an LG Wink featurephone here that uses the same connector at the phone end -- its cable will charge my Nexus S (using the computer, obviously, but also when used with either the LG or Samsung charger) but no USB connection happens when I use it. Only the cable that came with my Nexus S provides a USB connection when I connect to the computer. I guess there are pinout differences between the two cables.
If you're sure you're using the right cable, I would guess that it's gone bad if it doesn't work on any computer. You can buy an (overpriced) replacement from Samsung or maybe a cheaper one on eBay or at a retail store. If the latter, be sure the seller lists it as compatible with the Nexus S.
it happened with the original cable ppfff i dont know...
same problem

Hi
I have the same problem
I have no idea what the problem could be.
We are not alone with this problem: code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13553
Now installed stock rom as well but still the same problem.
If i starting the NS in the bootloader mode the phone is not recognized by the computer.
It would be great, if someone knows a solution!

I've been trying to get help with this for weeks. No one is even responding to my posts. I thought it was something OBSURDLY simple, such that people didn't even want to waste their time responding to me.

My phone charges just fine. And my USB connectivity was fine until I manually installed 2.3.4.
~I had usb connection problems after upgrade to 2.3.4 a bit different but I managed to get the USB back by formatting the SD card.

I was on 2.3.3 when this happened, i tried to flash 2.3.4 then and again it didnt work but the strange thing is that when i was moving the mini usb the first times up and down it was shown for a moment as a broken usb device. Then this stopped and was not shown at all on the computer and finally the phone charged super slow when connected to electricity
Beginning to believe that it is a physical prob with USB connector on phone. It seems to start/stop charging when wiggling usb on phone but no mounting. Doe anyone know best way to resolve , T-mobile but bought from Best Buy? so to Best Buy? FOR SUPPORT /EXCHANGE? suggestions?
I've seen loose connections before. My suggestion ain't the cheapest but the plug, on the cable end, shouldn't wiggle. I went to a corporate sprint store, the ones that actually have working display phones, and got their usb to micro usb data cable. The thing with that cable is when you plug it in the phone side, it goes into the jack firmly. You can almost feel the little locking tabs click into place. There should be no play or wiggle with that cable as long as there's no damage or abuse with the jack on the phone. IMO, that's a good data cable. It's never given me problems before.
Also, sometimes the cable is only wired for charging. A true data cable will be wired correctly and be able to both charge and transfer data. Usually the cables that come with the phone are crap quality. I don't know if my suggestion will help but it won't hurt to have a good cable for data transfer and flashing. The last thing you want is a flaky connection from a cheap cable when you're flashing roms. Russian roulette with bricking a phone in a worse case situation.
Did you try reboot the computer and the phone? How about a different usb port? How about unplug any other usb device in case it's conflicting for some unknown reason? It sounds like so many people with windows 7 are having problems. Usually always happens with a new os that's released. Xp, for flashing devices and programming different hardware devices, has never given of a problem. I have a small partition with xp on it just for that purpose only.
off to Samsung for repair for me...
After time on phone with them and a factory reset belief is that the usb connector is defective. BTW Best Buy just hands off to Samsung 1-800 #
So Back to a barely functional G-1 for a while, glad I could find it!
So is Samsung or the carriers replacing or fixing units?
My USB data died shortly after 2.3.4 ota update.
Wifi FTP is fine for data transfer but I want USB debug to work...
Shame on google and Samsung, this bug has been around for months.
no shame on anyone...
I went through a factory reset with Samsung on phone that isolated the problem to what is apparently a loose usb connector, nothing to do with software... only hassle is sending it in for repair, as` mentioned problem needs to be dealt with Samsung customer service (not carrier or Best Buy), they were fine on phone...
Hi guys, here's my problem:
When I connect my HTC to the computer only battery charges. At no time did I get the option to "Sync, Mass Storage, etc. ..".
I've tried different MicroUSB, but I think the problem is the phone.
When connected, do not install the drivers or anything, it automatically starts to charge the phone.
I had thought of sending it to HTC SAT, but the problem is that I am Root, S-OFF and bootloader unlocked with HTCDev. Would try to make the method for re-S-On, the original recovery, etc. .. I can not do any of the steps since for all you need to connect your phone to PC with USB.
I have been told to try to install an RUU, maybe that solves the problem of malfunctioning USB, but you know any other method by which it can again be S-On?
Check in your phone settings that you haven't set it to charge only rather than asking you when you plug in the cable.
And when you pull down the notification panel on the homescreen, isn't there an option showing to let you select which mode you're in?

I have everything related to the software reviewed, and never gives me the connection type.
What I'm trying to get is back to being s-on the original recovery, etc ...but it is impossible, the pc did not detected and I can not do any command from MS-DOS.
Also thanks for the reply.
By any chance have you tried a new USB cable ? The reason I'm asking is I had the same problem and it would charge only and not give me the opportunity to do anything else. Once I switched USB cables to another universal cable I was able to sync and Suddenly was recognised again. I had to use the universal cable though as my other two cables did the same thing no joy. But once I hooked up to the universal my problem was solved. So before you go as far as returning the device DO try another universal cable. You can get them from amazon for about 1.99 very inexpensively! As a matter of fact I just ordered another because cables in my case have gone bad fast . Perhaps because I buy the cheap ones. Lol. But do try it. It solved my problem right away. It won't hurt to try. Strange thing was it didn't work on my other two cables only my universal cable. But I'm ok with that because it IS working perfectly now using the universal cable. Like I said its worth a try . Hope this helps you out. Best wishes!

I can't seem to connect to my phone to pc via usb. Pc doesn't recognize the phone at all but when I have the phone off and then connect the phone to pc the phone boots back up. So it seems that the phone recognizes the pc. I've tried different ports, cables. I am able to with my other phones. I do have MDM installed. I bought this phone used so don't know if it every worked before. I believe the phone has at least another month of manufacturers warranty on it. The phone was assembled on 2/22/14. I'm wondering if VZW would help me out with this even if I wasn't the original purchaser? I'm currently on their prepaid plan.
Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated! TIA

while not as practical as plugging in through USB, you can try something like AirDroid and access your phone storage through wifi as an FTP site.

Has anyone dealt with Moto with warranty issue's? I justed added my phone onto Moto and my phone is covered until June.
They have a option called "Secured advance exchange".
They will put a $200 hold on my CC then send me out a phone. Then I send them back my old phone.
Has anyone dealt with their warranty exchange before???
I have some what the same issue.
PC recognize my phone as unknown device with USB\VID_0000&PID_0000, which is bull****. When I use the exact same cable and port with my spouse's mini it works just fine.
You can check how your PC recognize the device with USBDeview.
So I came to the conclusion that my mini-USB port is just burned down. I have no another explanation. I've tried another computers and various cables, it all the same. That is disappointing, because I have unlocked bootloader and wanted to use my MAXX for a while, but I'll have to switch after the contract expiration date.

I found out my phone still has warranty so Moto sending another phone. Don't know what phone they're going to send me though. I doubt they still have any Ultra's left. Maybe upgrade to a Maxx.
To start off my USB port seems to be malfunctioning. I can charge but will always get the " charging slow" error. It will even charge via usb port on a pc but it will not recognize it as an external Storage unit. Ive changed the usb settings via developer settings. However i do not get a usb notification on my phone giving me the option to switch the function.
Is there a way to connect to a PC to use flashing tools/ADB in order to unlock my loader as well as flash and send commands to my phone. I can use LG AirDrive but i do not believe commands can be sent through that. Would greatly appreciate help since im lead to believe rooting has just hit for the Stylo 4.
If it is any importance. I am on the stylo 4 bought through best buy not attached to any carrier Q710ULM is my model number
Did you try another USB cable? Ive had several that broken inside and the same happened. Changing USB cable solved it
Ive tried several. It is definetly my USB port. I think dollar store chargers did it in. And now since its always slowly charging i think it won't do any data transfer maybe in fear of loss of data due to bad connection?

Yours is a micro USB port right? Most likely it's a faulty USB port. See if you can get a store to replace it
Yes. Well a Type C but android charger none the less. I guess id have to send to LG to honor the warranty. I didnt purchase ot from a carrier and also did not get aj insurance plan when i connected it to t mobile.
In other words you are saying im SOL for getting on ADB? Atleast until a one click root has a method for this device.
Just to test. Did you test in another computer to see if it is detects it?
My computer corrupted the adb connection due to faulty drivers. Reinstalling windows fixed it because in another computer that i have it was detected normally. It's just to test the whole scenario here. If it doesn't work RMA it to LG
Yes I tested it on a computer as well as multiple outlets. I finally just took the back off and took out the port. It had a lot of corrosion around it. Almost all teal colored. I blame those dollar store chargers. I have no other explanation behind why it happened. Either way there is luckily someone wihtin range selling a bunch of parts on offerup so I was able to pick uo a new port for 7 dollars off of him. When I removed the back I was pretty surprised to see how the "non-removable" batteries are packages in there. Just a bunch of layers wrapped up in thin plastic with some tape around it. haha
