T-Mobile u11 life - HTC U11 Life Questions & Answers

Are we supposed to use this forum for u11 life from T-Mobile as well as Android one version? Or do we get a subsection in here.

A lot of times I have seen a single forum section for a device, but users would just specify the model/operator of the phone in the thread's title or description. So we should be good in posting here for both models(just my theory)

Unlocked my tmobile u11 life bootloader now I just need a recovery!

Give it time there will be one. The HTC devices from my experience have a very tight knit development community.

I am hoping that you can flash Android one software once TWRP is created. Kinda like the m8

At&t LG G3 thread

Noticed that there was a verizon and tmo g3 interest thread but no at&t so here we go I guess
Anyone on at&t looking at getting a g3?
Really hoping that the g3 will be more rootable than recent sammy phones.
Also does anyone know for sure if we're getting the 2gb/16gb version instead of the 3gb/32gb?

I agree with statement #2.
I'm wondering why you stated what you did in #1.

Most phones are rootable, whether they can go beyond a simple root is another matter, as far as I've gathered from my short stay here.

Root is not the question here. Question is if a bootloader will be locked down?

HTC Support - Worst support I have ever dealt with

So, I just wrote to the HTCDev Support via incident number: 14INCW48ENA000212 (for anyone who can help, just for reference)
My first message to them (23-Nov-2014):
Hi, I wanted to get the kernel sources for HTC One E8 (M8sd) India version. I am aware of the risks associated with unlocking the bootloader of my device and rooting. I am assisting some clients in development of a custom OS and therefore required the kernel sources for this. I am aware that this is not recommended by HTC. I am a developer and am well aware of the risks. Please help. Thanks

Their reply (24-Nov-2014):
Thank you for contacting HTC support. As per your email, we understand that you want a kernel sources for HTC One E8. We value the importance of your concern. We would like to inform you that providing the source code totally depends upon our developer, as and when the source code for HTC One E8 is available, it will be updated on our developer website. However, your feedback is appreciated. We value your time and patience.

Isn't HTC required to share the source code to comply with the Linux kernel's license?

Thank you for replying back to us. This is in continuation to our previous correspondence. We value the importance of your concern. We request you to visit the HTC Dev website for further assistance. As we do not recommend our HTC customers to convert or root the device as doing so voids the warranty of the device and also it may cause hardware to malfunction. We do not provide support for rooting and unlocking the boot loader. We value your time and patience.

It is so disappointing that the support people sitting with HTC are so dumb that they just copy paste replies rather than escalating properly and actually working towards answering someone's questions. Nowhere have I mentioned that I wished to root the device, yet that is all they seem to be talking about.
How has your experience been when dealing with these idiots?

This is appalling! There is absolutely no love for the E8.
Now I feel like a nut for buying this phone. mmmm.. Donuts!
Hey there!! i just checked htcdev website and saw kernels available. This phone is also known as HTC One M8 Ace.. You can find the kernel for M8_Ace on htcdev, asia specific aswell!! I'm pretty sure that it is one E8 only..because there is no m8_Ace model available in india.. in china e8 is known as m8_ace .. Hope this helps

M8 Rom To E8

Hello guys. I want to ask can we flash a M8 rom to E8?
They both have the same hardwares on them. So is it possible?

No. Not without certain tweaks anyway, because their model numbers etc differ. And also the camera module is different. They don't have exactly similar hardware.

I'm not a developer to comment on that. But yes I guess so. Only problem is we don't have many developers for this phone due to it's small reach.

Do you know, what needs to be adjusted?
I would love to see a custom rom for my E8 (M8Sn) and cannot find anyone who is able to help me.
It is the singleSIM version from Germany.

Unfortunately I don't. There are a few people on our forums here, CaptainThrowback and DutchDanny. They are familiar with development. Try asking them. Or contact a dev from M8 forums and ask instead, if they are free enough, they might guide you.

Which Smartphones have Unlockable Bootloader & Can be rooted?

Post amended for better notability:
According to Sir Zelendel's recommendations and this website's list of top smartphones, I have the four products to choose the refurbished/pre-used smartphones from:
Google Pixel
Samsung Galaxy
One Plus
Honor
Click to collapse
So my next query is:
Can the earlier editions/versions of these products also have their bootloaders unlocked/re-locked and be rooted/unrooted?
The explanation behind my brief query in details:
I have assimilated what my teacher here has advised.
I decided that I will buy a 2nd hand, Out-Of-Warranty smartphone for regular use and all sorts of experimentation.
I have been perusing the forum threads. I then searched the forum threads via Google (I know how to ) for better results . Appears that I have found some encouraging posts.

forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/bootloader-unlocked-t3694918
The problem is that people don't leave proper information about whether their problem was solved. This creates problems for the newcomers. They dont have enough guidance.

Skimmed them. A few of them look encouraging. Will take some time to assimilate
I also found that the forum lists the following as the top SmPh:
Samsung Galaxy S9
One Plus 5T
Google Pixel 2
One Plus 5
Samsung Galaxy S8+
I assume that these mobiles can have their bootloader unlocked as well as the OS rooted?
I remember from my earlier lesson that Honor and One Plus 5T are definitely compatible with my plan to experiment.
Since these are new arrivals in the market, I might not find a 2nd hand SmPh from these said models.
So based on your vast experience, please feel free to advise me to go ahead and buy a SmPh in which I could exercise either of the two options: unlock the bootloader and root/unroot the OS.

Just a little clearification. All devices come locked when you open the box. Unlocking the bootloader and rooting it are allowed on those devices and on the One plus devices it doesnt void your warranty. Unlocking and rooting are really easy. a couple of PC commands, and one zip flash and boom you are unlocked and rooted.
Thank you, Sir.
But can those smartphones, that can easily be unrooted and their bootloaders, unlocked, be again re-rooted and bootloaders, locked, after necessary amendments, respectively?
After I have bought one of these devices I shall proceed to seek advice on how to do these.
In the meanwhile, and needless to say, I shall also search the forum posts using Google, for further info.
Thank you, Sir, for replying to the post.
Regards

Yes removing root is as simple as flashing a stock rom and then relocking the bootloader with one PC command.
If you have Firefox on PC you can use the XDA search plug in. It is far better then the built in search.

Not all devices can have an unlocked bootloader. The vast majority cant. I have never even heard of that device so I cant say for sure. But is you cant unlock the bootloader with the switch in developer settings and the PC command then you may have a device that you cant unlock the bootloader on.

Yes, Sir. In Linux it is very simple, almost a no-brainer. But I don't know why the Android programmers have made the issue complicated.

In Linux you don't really remove root access. It is still there in the system. Not so on Android due to it being turned off in the kernel and having no built in UI.

The device and company is new sir launched in previous year.
Any way to fully confirm that bootloader is not unlockable of this device or can't root this device?

Yes, true, we just allow some commands and users to become root, and then remove the root privileges.

This part I don't really understand because of my lack of experience with android.
I am studying android-x86, but I am not making much of a headway.
I would really want to know as to how is it turned off in the Kernel. Which portions of the kernels are removed, or hashed/silenced.
Please create your own thread & post your questions there, Mr.Shivom
A minor request to Mr. Shivom786.
Could you please create your own thread and ask your questions there please? This is my thread where I am seeking advice. Only my advisors are supposed to have posted here. This is an unwritten decency code that is supposed to be maintained in conversations.
I apologise for using the word 'decency' explicitly, Mr. Shivom, and hope that I shall be apologised.
If you have a problem creating a thread I could help you. You could click in xda-developers → General discussion → Questions and Answers, and use the "New Thread" button.
Please don't forget to click the 'Thanks' button below this post if you believe you were helped .
Also depends on your carrier. Like the S7 Edge on T Mobile is locked. Sucks. I'm searching for a new phone but a lot is locked on T Mobile it seems

Any Nexus-iike ROM around for TMobile HTC U11 life?

Greetings community!
I was just wondering if there is any pure-Android ROM for the Tmobile variant of the HTC U11 life?
I've been looking around with no luck, unfortunately.
Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

None at this time, Don't think there will be IMHO. Not too much development on mid range devices these days.

Someone can try to build aosp or something but the easiest thing to do is try to make a rom from an Android one version but we would need a kernel that would boot it.
If the Android one version had twrp it would be really better
