Im in japan. my phone doesn't show ota for marshmallow, only for Sony bloatware. and pc companion on Mac says yes there is an update available... But then after about ten seconds the dialog box is replaced saying that I am running latest version available (though i have 5).
Same results when I tried VPN.
My phone is unlocked as originally purchased. I have a data sim.
Does it refuse because I have only 500mb on internal? There is no error message-it just changes its mind.
Any ideas? Just wait?

There is actually a mac version of Flashtool, but maybe not xpirifirm so you might have to find a pre-made FTF.
I guess you don't have root?
Update manually with Flashtool? Lots of guides available. Might not even have to make your own FTF file, but I recommend doing so if you can as then you know what is in it.
Essentially this is the same as using Sony software to do it, but you have more manual options. Download the files with xpirifirm, decrypt them with flashtool (not as complicated as it sounds), then it will make an ftf file for you which is the bit that contains all the system for the phone / update, then follow instructions to flash it onto the phone.
I'll look for a decent guide link.
My top tip is to make sure the TA partition stuff is excluded when you select what components to add to the ftf file to be safe, but flashtool should exclude this by default. And to make sure you download the software for your exact device so double check it when you choose
It really isn't as overwhelming as it may seem when you first look at it.
How to make the ftf: http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/08/1...re-files-using-xperifirm-and-flashtool-guide/
How to flash it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2697277
(Just ignore the parts telling you to download anything in the flashing guide as you got it from the "how to make" and obviously just replace that phone and firmware with your own)
Thanks. I have rooted and flashed a couple other phones but not Sony. I guess I would do that if it came down to it, but it shouldn't be necessary. With the z3 don't see the payoff for the risk. I can live with the bloatware.
More to the point this update should just work! Why isn't it?
If I use PC companion doesn't that get the update straight from Sony regardless of carrier? (I have no carrier, just a 3 month data sim)

If I helped hit thanks
Something along the way is causing the problem. Tried reinstalling PC companion?
I say manual flash because that eliminates the variable that it's your phone causing the problem and also gets you updated as you wanted soooooo two birds with one stone
If you can't so it by PC I hope the phone eventually sorts itself out
Did you use xperia companion? If you used that, then there might be no update available yet for your phone, because xperia companion have a bug that shows an update is available, but there really is no update available.
Yes I'm using xperia companion. I guess I'm experiencing that bug you mention.
How can I establish if an update is available when I have no carrier? If I have no carrier then is it still dependant on the country I'm in? I know others have received the update for d6653 in other countries.

Hello,
I've been getting notifications that my phone has downloaded the G900PVPU3CPJ2 G900PSPT3CPJ2 firmware for over a month now. I'm rooted, so my phone won't take the OTA update, even if I un-root. It's usually not a problem because I'll download the firmware from a site like sammobile and flash it with odin. The problem is that none of the usual sites have the firmware yet, except for some saudi-arabian site that requires payment. In the past, multiple sites would have had it by now. I'm not sure what the difference is now.
Is there anyway to copy the downloaded update files from my phone to my computer, and flash them with Odin? If so, what are the file names, and where would they be located? Any other solutions for this problem?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
there is even another update after that, G900PVPS3CPK1 with November security patch. Nowhere to be found as well.
try the file in this forum. check the last post by lauyoh: http://zona-experta2017.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=182. i think the AP file is what you will need.
i'm not sure if it is for spr, bst, vmu, or xas like it is listed in sammobile, and i don't know if it matters.
full stock G900PVPS3CPK1 is now avaliable online

Finally... thanks for the heads up!
Hello. Received my Xperia XZ in germany with T-Mobile branding, which i wanted to remove because i do not have t-mobile and all their apps are useless to me, secondly the lot of pink icons / flashing screens / etc. are extremely annoying. I did sucessfully unlock and tried to flash "customized DE" (latest) which always fails (downloaded via XperiFirm, deleted the .xml, packed and flashed with Flashtool).
Then i tried searching an Android 6 tft, and found the "customized CE1" which worked, but did not get the Android 7.0 update yet. But in the end, this is not what i wanted to archive as its the wrong firmware version. As far as i understood flashing Android 7.0 ftfs is currently not possible? And also sony only has latest Firmware downloadable, so no DL-Link for the 6.x Firmware for my region? Did not manage to find the correct Firmware using google.
Can anyone help me out?
Either finding the correct german Firmware ftf for 6.x or how to flashing the 7.x one.
Thanks!

Thanks, but already checked both.
Xperiafirm only finds the newest Android 7.0 Firmware - or is there a hidden "old firmwares" feature?
XperiCheck also lists only the newest Fimware.
Just figured out while writing this post, i can click on the CDA - which seems to list all "customized DE".
Only problem now: I do not have an Alfafile account, nor do i have any of the available payment options to buy me the smallest subscription to aquire this file. :/
Google also does not seem to find any result for "F8331_1305-9090_39.0.A.3.30-R4B_Customized_DE.ftf"
EDIT: That ftf file is not shown in FlashTool - possibly broken one So still no real progress.
Hello everybody,
Firstly, apologies about all text, no links.. But i'm new to the site and don't have enough posts to link yet.
So, i'm new to the Mate 9 (had Samsungs for quite a few years now... Overpriced battery sucking hogs that never last to 18 months withou massive issues) and I really haven't gotten into the custon side of/flashing etc since my original galaxy (dunut, before the s!) /HTC Desire, sgs3 days.... So i'm probably quite out of touch... But still capable to learn and especially follow a good guide!
Now, my thing is... I want to stay stock as I use Android pay quite a lot... Yet with my experience with optus they are ATROCIOUS at updates, every with volume sale items like the Galaxy s4, 5 &6 so I can only imagine that i'll never get an update with the mate 9.
I purchased my phone outright, but second hand.... So I don't think I'll have a warranty anyway.
So far I have gathered that I can only debrand if I unlock the bootloader (and pay remains broken even if it gets relocked with an original rom) so for me, at least for the time being, that's out.
My next option is to side load firmware from the SD card... I just want to keep up to date. There is some screen sensitivity issues that the newest firmware apparently addresses.. Not to mention camera updates and battery usage updates (already VERY impressed with the battery though, especially after my S6- Awful phone)
Trouble is, I can't get any update to complete! - They get to 5% and then fail!
The firmware models I've tried have slightly different numbers to what's on my Optus Mate 9... But I can't find any exact matches, so I'm kind of expecting this to be the cause of my failed updates, even when I've downloaded from the different sites following the guides.
Currently i'm running with this;
Model: MHA-L09
Build: MHA-L09C34B122
EMUI: 5.0
Android: 7.0
and I have tried these three updates from the Huawei... Note 2 full and one OTA. Also note the firmware/region differences... But it's as close as I can find.
2017.04.25 MHA L09BC346B181 FULL-MF
2017.04.25 MHA L09BC346B181 OTA-MF
2017.04.24 MHA L09BC34B170 FULL-MF
I've also followed these two guides (and another one with a B170 update), downloading the updates from each respective site in case the firmware was something different than what I could find. Note also that one tells you to put the dload folder into the device memory.. Which won't work, so I just did it in SD which enables the phone to recognise the update file.
(links not allowed sorry, removed and replaced with text, can probably google to see what I did, always fails on step 1)
From get droid tips, upgrade to B170 & B181
from stechguide, upgrade it B181
Not to mention having followed all the guides I could find on this forum.
I'm sorry if I've missed a discussion that already deals with this (or similar) or if it's really bleedingly obvious. I'm just at a bit of a loss here!
Thanks in advance.
Sorry,
This is for Australian firmware. Optus.

I don't get why sites write down guides on how to update, when we in fact can't update using DLOAD. Only 2 offline firmwares have been released so far, for C636 and AL00. But that guide up there will let you update to 181.
Thanks for that,
I'd obviously misunderstood what's available already... Figured since I don't have the 10x zoom available like the latest release, I was behind.

Yes, new users are led the wrong way by reading these guides.
The dload method probably worked with older devices so the Mate 9 articles seem to be created by copy and paste and replacing the older devices name with "Mate 9". Voila! There's your new shiny article about the Mate 9 and people klick it.
Yeah. I got sucked in. Noob mistake.
Sorry for polluting the board with my stupidity!
Very out of touch with behind the scenes android.
Thanks for taking the time guys
Since you don't want to unlock your bootloader you are stuck to only one method. And that is the Firmware Finder method and try to push the latest C34B170 FULL-MF to your System Updater and hope it is authenticated. The other link mentioned by ante0 is for unlocked bootloader users only using TWRP and modified recovery images.
Saw that. Figured I'm just stuck as is for now. I'll check out what you're referring to!

New Mate 9 owner here, have been trying to update from MHA-L29C636B172 to MHA-L29C636B180 using the Firmware Finder method and push to OTA.
System update has picked up the new version but every time I try to download and update, it gets to 100% and then tells me I need to update Package 1 which is the same size, it downloads that, tells me I need to update Package 2, same size, downloads that, Package 3 etc, etc in a never ending loop! I’ve tried using both the smaller update package and the full package. I built up an update file of over 5GB trying to do it this way and it never gets to the authentication stage!
Although I’ve always unlocked my bootloader, flashed custom recoveries and roms on my previous Android devices I’m not keen to take that path yet.
In a nutshell, am I doing something wrong or should I just wait for the official authenticated firmware update to pop up on my phone? Thanks.

Once you start download.. pause it then go turn off the proxy and then go back to the update and resume. Then you won't get the incremental download loop.
By the way, when you unlock bootloader on mate 9, then flash a full firmware (either the update and rebrand guide, Firmware finder or funky) your bootloader gets locked again. So no real harm done.

Nope, thats Huawei not authenticating the update for your device yet... you just have to wait. Took me about 3-4 weeks from the time of release before B182 got approved for my C636 device.
I just randomly check every week till its finally approved - I try not to keep checking as its pointless and a waste of bandwidth.

Thanks @Leighm0. Unsure what the point of Firmware Finder and the proxy is then? If it allows you to find the firmware earlier, but you still can’t install it because Huawei need to authenticate it first, why not just check for updates using the built in system updater?
Good question... Wondering that myself.

Nope - I still had to get FF Proxy to push it to system updater.. just needs to be authenticated by Huawei first. OTA did not show up under the standard "check for updates" options.. it might have shown up, but how long do I need to wait for that ? My device is not available in Australia, would it even get OTA updates if it werent for FF proxy?
Next time a firmware comes out, I could do a test to see if it does even get it by normal methods - and that is to push with FF Proxy, wait for the update to be authorized... then cancel it... turn off FF Proxy and wait for it to show up in my system updater naturally.. see how slow Huawei are at pushing it? Be interesting to see.
The above would probably not be relevant to an Australian sold model/device - it should get OTA updates when they are pushed out..

Ah, ok, well explained mate. So there is a delay between FF and OTA finding the update and then there is a delay as to when Huawei decide to authenticate it.
Are firmware and when Huawei decide to authenticate based on model number? Geographic regions? Mobile carrier?
Mine was purchased via Hong Kong and is the MHA-L29C636 model which I believe is the version JB HiFi sell as well.

Not sure how Huawei do their authentication approvals.. but it's not model number.. as someone with same model as mine got theirs authenticated 3-4 weeks before mine did (they were in different country). Could be region and or mobile carrier.. who knows.
Mine was purchased from Thailand and is the LON-L29C636 but is not sold anywhere here in Australia. Correct your model is indeed sold by JB Hi-fi.. so would think you get yours approved same time as those who bought here in AU from JB. But again this could be wrong and they could base authentication on something else... Maybe serial number groupings or who knows?!?!

Iirc they go by IMEI.
I want to roll back to oreo but xperifirm deletes previous android versions and I cant download the 47.1.A.16.20 for my region Israel (customized IL)
is there a way I can download any oreo firmware from different regions and simply copy some files from the android Pie (customized IL) and place them with the oreo that is from a different region and make my device receive OTA from my region?
I also made a mistake and updated Xperia XZ to Android 9.0. I am looking for any tutorial how to back to proper Android Oreo or even 7.1 if I nowhere find out Oreo. I consider even selling this phone because 9.0 is so bad that using my phone is right now a nightmare. I have hope that another vendors will modified what Google has broken in Pie. Sound regulation, auto brightness, toggles and even status bar is all so bad that I cannot believe that it is genuine Android update, however I have seen on another phone this crappy update and I recognised that it is unfortunately true. I really urgently need old rom file or I will have to sell this amazing phone.
I fully second those comments. It can be worse, but this upgrade is a disgrace in creating inconveniences. How to rollback the Sony OS has become a must instead of a nicety. My plan for future is either not to upgrade for six months, or buy a working second hand unit with cracks and all just to test the new OS from Sony.
