It's just used for notifications right now.

Ok thanks ??
I've been using this app for the LED light control on my last three Google phones https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflow&hl=en , there is also a free version to try out.

Hi. Are the buttons supposed to light up? Mine don't. Is this normal?
They light up on mine.
It does look like it is controlled by the light sensor.

More specifically only in certain light conditions. The buttons rely on the light sensor to tell them when to light up.

They do light up in low light conditions. Atleast they do on my HOS.

Any way of stopping them lighting at night? Reason I ask is I use Gentle Alarm and when 'Night Display' is enabled they will remain on even when in Night Display mode I press the power button off then on and they still come on? Not had the problem on other phones.

There should be an app in the market or online called led hack to disable them

Don't think it's on the market these days? I have found a copy but need to be rooted - but thanks for suggestion. I'll root at some point but my One S may need to be returned as currently in discussions with HTC over mobile network reception.
Could someone post the APK of Power Switch Lite (its free!) ? I wanted to test it out....

It puts the device to sleep after the case has been closed, similar to the iPad 2's magic case, but this app uses the light sensor to detect the amount of light after you close the case.

So if you suddenly turn off the light in the room, it will shut off the screen?

Not necessarily. You can configure the light sensitivity in the full version, and you can also use other sensors (such as proximity and accelerometer) to activate sleep

Somewhat. The light sensor is weak so I have to turn on accelerometer sensing and shake the crap out of it to get into lockscreen. But I am unrooted and it says it needs root to work perfectly, so I'm going to root and try again

Hello All,
Looking to use the phone's LED flash, as a notification... text messages for example.
any suggestions?
Not to sound like a super **** but: have you tried Google Play? I think there's apps that do that

why? that would kill battery like crazy, not to mention it would heat up the led bulb to the touch.
Try light flow on the market. They have a lite version but you may have to be rooted. I don't have time to try it right now but should work. As for heating the led that's not even a concern.
Sent from my one x
Lightflow does allow for led use. Ive used in the past with the hox.

if i wanna use my phones LED to cook meth, who cares... while i can see the LED using a lot power -im only looking for a couple fast blinks when a text is delivered, thought this was a native function within CM9/10, but thats not the case.
Oh what I'd do for a multi-color LED like the original nexus
+1 for light flow. Go sms also lets you set the notification light. The HOX displays green orange and red.

Large ones most certainly do. Like the ceiling light ones all have heatsinks.

Works great. Hope this helps.
Why does Facebook completely ignore priority mode? I have it set up for bo notifications apart from calls at night time and yet every morning when I wake up (or if I wake up in the night) there's a bloody blue flashing light for a Facebook notification!! Anyone know how to stop it?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
as far as i know priority mode only blocks sounds & vibrations while it keeps the led notification active. while about disabling it i suppose you should dig into facebook settings, hopefully you would find it

I suppose that makes sense then! Although I don't have any sound or vibration set anyway. Just the led. Doh! So unless I use an led control app there's not much else to do

I know. But during the day i want the led. I'm now gonna try out ledblinker apk to turn off leds at night time

Use light flow and check no led during priority mode.
So, just like all the previous Moto phones, this one has a hidden LED too!
Using root and any kernel tweaker with an option to adjust leds, you can switch it on. It seems to be only white as far as I could tell but it's there! (In the middle of the speaker grill on top)

Waiting on some more people to try this but that's awesome! And I personally LOVE the LED position

Which kernel tweaker. Kernel auditor doesn't do this. Unless I missed it.

Anyway to make it work with or without moto display, it would be sweet to have a notification LED on this phone
what is the hidden LED normally for on the other motos?

Usually to indicate the phone is charging when it gets plugged in from a completely dead state, before it even powers on the screen

I found the setting in trickster mod, but it only turns it on when charging. Will we be able to use it for notifications?
Assume that LiteFlow would work (paid version) as it does with Nexus 6. Give that a try.

It has for other Moto devices so I assume so. I'm not personally interested enough to pay for the app to find out though, sorry.

I guess one could buy it, try it real quick, and if it does not work, get a refund within the allotted time Google Play gives you.
How bright is the LED? It might not be useful because of the front flash unless it's a dim light. From the picture it seems bright though.

The Flash is just an LED anyway, so there would just be a second LED on the front.
