Is it possible your obscuring the light with your hand or fingers causing the phone to constantly adjust to what it thinks is changing light conditions?

its possible, if the sensor is on the bottom bezel. never had this issue w/ my n4,5,5x, or p1 though.
My problem is more that the brightness doesn't adjust itself enough. If I'm on auto-brightness and in a pitch black room, my phone blinds me because it doesn't adjust.
What is everyone else using for display settings? I've enabled 'Adaptive brightness' but it's doesn't adjust very well. I prefer not to have to go to something 3rd party like Lux.
Mine micro adjusts in a dark room it's not terrible but it's enough to be annoying while reading because it grabs your attention. More noticeable on white backgrounds.

does anyone know if its possible to adjust the back light dimmer lower than stock. I have tried the various programs that shade the LCD to make it seem dimmer, but they don't work the way I like. I want to use my xoom as a night clock, but unfortunately I can't get it dim enough. My Sony alarm clock has an LCD display that dims the back light in night mode to where you can barley see it. But in a dark room its perfect. All the other programs available just shade the LCD, but you can see the back light seep through and it keeps me awake. If anyone has a solution that can work on my xoom I would be grateful.
Thanks
Well nook app dims lower than normal while reading.

You could try the app Screen Filter from the market. It allows you to set a %.
I just flashed the final beta of CM7 to my triumph, and idk if everybody is having this problem my soft keys are flashing/flickering when i move the phone. It's not physically they are flickering because of the way the light reaches your eyes.
No way to explain it really, when you hold the phone still it's good.
I believe this is because the soft keys brightness is not high enough.
Anybody find a way to fix this,
Thankss in advance.//
I have he same thing, but not sure how to fix it.
It's a 'feature' to reduce the brightness on the softkey LEDs. By default they're turned on full brightness, and it can have light leaks that affect a dark screen on some people's phones. You can just turn it off with an app like 'adjbrightness', 'keyboard backlight control', or in CM settings - display - auto backlight - use custom & edit other levels.

If you could explain a little more of what to change on that screen it would be much appreciated. There are so many values to change that it is a bit overwhelming to me.
In the "Edit other levels", the left column is what the light sensor readings are for a certain light level, the next column is the display backlight that should be used in those situations, the right most column is what brightness the bottom capacitive buttons should be at. Set it to 0 to be off, 255 for max. Try some different values to see what suits you.
Awesome! Thank you!
Bright adjusted does not functioning until the screen lock.but if unlock the screen then bright level resumed to the default bright level which is 0 bright.
Please solve my problem

Probably some other app might be running on the top. If you have any such app (like floating button or widget or brightness control app or screen tone filter) disable it. Then try again.
Just curious. How many of you are seeing screen-burn in on your phones?
I use CF.Lumen to adjust the screen to be warmer at night. I notice some darker areas/burn-in with CF.Lumen enabled and the screen brightness dimmed to super low levels (using CF.Lumen's built-in darkness slider for Sleep mode)
What I notice is a sort of dark spot at very low brightness, and a sort of dark shadowy line running down the screen close to the left side. It's kinda annoying but I really only see it when I have text on the screen (and I'm trying to read text) at lower-than-stock dimness levels. I'm slowly getting used to it. At first I panicked thinking that my screen had burned in already at a few months of use, but when I have CF.Lumen off and I have the stock brightness slider set all the way to 0, I don't notice any lines or weird dark spots.
Then again, 0 brightness using the stock brightness slider is still VERY bright if you're coming from iOS's Accessibility settings. Android has poor screen filter settings and few good screen filter apps outside CF.Lumen and f.lux and I doubt Android 12 will change that.
So, are any of you experiencing screen burn-in? OLED burn-in is something that always has me worried. I try to avoid OLED phones for this reason, because I'm paranoid.
OLEDs have a finite lifespan. The brighter they burn, the shorter they last.
The higher energy blue emitters have the shortest life span, while red the longest.
Darker screen wallpaper, dark mode and less white icons/headers helps reduce wear.
Use manual brightness control and avoid going over 50% whenever possible. Don't use in direct sunlight... this is a killer.
Move icons and widgets periodically on the homescreen. Avoid prolonged white screen viewing and apps that are dark mode illiterate.
These practices also increase battery life substantially.
Use Screen Test to see if any damage is present.
After over 1.5 years of heavy usage and one battery replacement, my AMOLED display on my Note 10+ shows no signs of damage. How you use it day to day/what you view with it makes a big difference in display longevity.
Any way to increase that tiny led light? It almost got no benefit. Or any apps to add a notification light on screen such as around the camera cutout ?
Thanks

Find the option for turn on the screen when notification came.
Your request will work better if the screen is OLED with AOD.
LCD screen use more power when the screen is turned on. It's not possible to partially turned on. (At least haven't seen that ability on LCD screen)
