Hey all,
I was just wondering if it was possible to get rid of Spotify on the stock Sony ROM as i'm trying to install a different version of it on my XZ. I understand it comes as a system app therefore it cannot be uninstalled but would it be possible to replace it somehow with an APK version of it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Try installing the APK, it worked with me replacing the Playstore. I know it worked because when i try to disable it only deletes the data but keeps the current version. However if you want to completely uninstall the app however you need to root.

Hi Guys,
I have updated my X10 Mini Pro with Google Maps 5.0, it updated fine without any errors whatsoever... but the problem is the Compass Mode button that you can tap above doesn't show. there's no bar above the map (see attachment).
I dont really care about the 3D thing, I just need the Compass Mode feature so the map would automatically rotate and follow the orientation im facing based on the built in compass.
Anyone knows the solution?
thanks!!
GMM5.0 runs in 2D/raster mode on most devices. Try this version to enable 3D/vector mode: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9868137#post9868137

Wow thanks man! Ill be trying this one out later. I have a few questions:
1) I don't need my phone to be rooted, right?
2) Im thinking of uninstalling the GMM 5.0 update that I have to bring it back to the stock GMM first, before I install your version of GMM, is that good?
3) Your version is also uninstallable without taking out the stock GMM, right? (just in case it doesn't work on my X10 Mini Pro)
Thanks!
If you don't have a root and original GMM is a system app (it was installed by default), then unfortunately you won't be able to install above file, sorry.

on second thought, if i root my phone and use titanium backup to uninstall the GMM systam app, would that allow me to install your modified GMM 5.0?

Yes, if you uninstall original GMM, then you should be able to install above modded GMM. And you should not have any problem with uninstalling it later. People sometimes has problems, cause they install modded GMM as system app - they copy it to /system/app instead of installing it like any other app.

Remove the old one from /system
Check to make sure its not in /data/app/com.htc.fm-1/...
If that folders there remove it.
Reboot.
Ensure its no longer in your app drawer.
Place the attached apk in /system/app/
Change permission to 0644 (rw-r--r--)
Reboot again and it will now be installed.
To shed a bit more light on your situation, you installed a system app, even though it installed to /data/app/ the app is still presumed a system app, the app is a non uninstall able app. Therefore the option to uninstall is not available via normal means (settings--apps---fmradio-- not option to uninstall)
So that's why you can not uninstall it via normal means. And the reason it will not install as a update is because the signatures are different meaning someone (HTC or third party) used a different signature when signing that apk.

thank you ! that worked . thanks for explaining why it wouldnt work . may be helpful in the future !
I don't know why..even when I uninstall the app there are some files remaining in my phone..which is not letting me install other versions of the app
If I uninstall from okay store it wil be installed and when I try to install it back..it wil be installed in milliseconds....
Video record wil be given in comments
i had the same problem,i solved this problem by try uninstalling it in my secure folder cuz i also installed it in that and then problem solved!

Most dual/parallel space technologies available on Google Play (or shipped with the device) make use of android's work profile implementation. But, this only isolates the user-level data. If you have already installed the app on one profile, any attempt to install the app again from a different profile will simply enable the app for that particular profile. In case you wish to completely remove an app from your device or reinstall it, you may need to uninstall the app from every user profile or use ADB.
So, this is my first time rooting a phone, and once I managed to get it to work, I started playing around to see what capabilities I had now.
In doing this, I uninstalled the play store. I've tried multiple methods to reinstall it, but none have worked so far.
I've tried installing a new play store apk and used systemize to turn it into a system app, but that didn't work (the app crashed on launch)
I've also tried using link2sd but the app wouldn't let me convert to system app.
If anyone else has any tips for me I'd be grateful.
Using a samsung running android 11 - rooted with magisk, recovery method.
Copy it from another device using ApkExport then transfer the installable copy over to the victim device and install.
I haven't tried it with Playstore but it works on other apks even if the donor device is on a different Android OS version.

sadly the only other device i have is a samsung galaxy S2 that is barely functional. I doubt that'll work.
Before you do anything I'd make sure you have a good backup of your device. Copy text messages, contacts, photos, etc all to external storage.
My first thought was just download install APK, but I see you've done that.
Someone else may have a better suggestion, but, if nothing else works, I'd try installing pico GApps to restore Playstore functionality.

Pico PackageThis package is designed for users who want the absolute minimum GApps installation available. In this package you will find the core Google System Base, Google Android Shared Library, Google Play Store, Google Calendar Sync, Dialer Framework and the following Play Store applications:

Try it. It will copied system apks and updates.
I copied apks from a S4 running on Kitkat to my Note 10+. If it loads Playstore will need to update, that may be a problem... or not.
APK Export (Backup & Share) - Apps on Google Play
Manage and extract your apps.

Google Play Store app by type is a normal 3rd-party app. Wondering why you want to convert it to a system app?

Yeah it's a system app on my Note 10+, can't be uninstalled*.
Normally it doesn't crash although it's common for it to not connect to Playstore. It does that if Google play Services is disable but even then it doesn't crash.
* I think, it has a disable option but to find out if there's an uninstall I would need to revert to the factory load first... which isn't something I want. It appears to be as I originally stated.

there is no uninstall option. I uninstalled it through other means as my phone is rooted. Now I'm having issues re-installing it and getting it to work.
My last 2 cents here:
Per definition only apps that are needed by Android OS to work are called system apps and are stored in /system/apps. Other apps - called 3rd-party apps like Google Play Store - may be stored in /system/priv-apps.
BTW:
If you manually install Google Play Store APK then it installs to /data/app directory - as expected.
I downloaded the latest "settings" on telegram, but once installed, I can't access anymore... The application opens then closes straight away..
Any solution to fix? Or do I have to do a reset?
You probably installed a incompatible version, if you use a appmanager you should be able to locate the app (settings) go to manage then uninstall updates it should revert it back.
I've done this and encountered the same issues
I used this; https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lb.app_manager
There are certainly other apps that do the same thing
Thanks for your reply..
I installed this application but it can't work because it needs permissions, and each time I try to access to permissions... It closes
So I used "files" which was already installed and managed to go down factory settings
All works now..
Thank you for giving me this idea

Like I say I've been there & done that, I too have installed "updated" OnePlus apps sometimes with success sometimes with crashes.
You should always be able to downgrade/revert.
Sometimes you get quirky faults
But I've managed to get the theme store and various other things working like fonts etc... I'm still unrooted and standard oos.
I use my NFC a lot and I can't risk tripping saftynet just yet.
