Tried everything on YouTube, Did the Xperia companion repair and Factory reset. This error pops up after installing or uninstalling an app. Any ideas? Thanks guys.

Seems like a common problem. Someone posted a temporary fix by disabling visual voicemail and clearing app data.

Seems like they rolled back the oreo updates b/c the companion repair installs 7.1.1 again instead of 8.0.0

There is no visual voicemail options anywhere in settings in the international dual-sim Xperia XZ Premium. Any other ideas?
None of the suggested fixes works for me at all in Oreo. There is no visual voicemail. In fact I don't remember ever seeing visual voicemail in Nougat either. I have the single sim version.

Here is how I fixed this error....so far!
Here is what I did and how to find the visual voicemail.
Go to settings > Apps & Notifications > App info > Phone > select "Force Stop > then select Storage > then Clear Cache > then Clear Data. Then get out of settings and open phone app > top right corner select three dots > settings > calls > Voicemail > there is the Visual Voicemail toggle....turn it off > then reboot. Hold on to your butts!

Well...I couldn't wait for a Play Store update to show itself so I went ahead and downloaded a couple of apps that I had stored in my "Library" and I DID NOT receive the stupid error message. Will it return when I do an update??? Not sure, but for now this is working for me.

I can confirm that this method works on G8142 International. After Visual Voice Mail toggle is disable, app updates normally. Hopefully, they can fix this soon, the issue still persist on the November Security Update.

Go to your call log, there should be a 3 dot menu on the top right, next to the microphone icon. Click on settings on the 3 dot menu. Then click on Calling accounts. Then click on the icon for sim1 and/or sim2 (I have dualsim). Then click on Voicemail. Then there should be a toggle for Visual Voicemail.

wow you guys are good! Just got my XZ Premium 8142 International dual sim and this issue was starting to get on my last nerves. every time I DL an app from the store it crashes with that darn error message.
I can confirm that this fix works like a charm. Is there anything that affects the phone with the visual voicemail turned off. Not that I would know what it's doing while on mind you.
Turning off visual voicemail option also solves this for Xperia XZ after updating to Oreo.

I don't seem to get any sort of notification for voicemails except from visual voicemail, which doesn't work unless I'm data or wi-fi connected.
Is there any way of fixing this?
Running ICBINB.
Any idea why this might be happening and how to fix it?

uninstall visual voicemail
Nvm a bloke on the T-Mobile forums was kind enough to answer this question for me.
Seems like you just have to clear the data and cache from the visual voicemail app and you'll start getting normal notifications without data or wifi again. Oddly though if you uninstall the visual voicemail app you won't get any notifications at all.
ahhh thk you man. I was punching myself as i couldn't figure out why i wasn't getting any notifications of voicemails. I flashed a rom that didn't have the visual voicemail installed. Installing it now, and hopefully it fixes this issue!
I know this is old but I can confirm that not having Visual Voicemail was the culprit in my case of the voicemail alert not showing up on my phone. I have titanium backup installed and decided I'd uninstall non-useful/used apps that came stock with the phone. Of course, I didn't realize at the time this was the reason why my voicemail icon no longer appeared and I had 15 voicemails waiting for me :O. Anyway, good catch Yangorang.

Gmail, hit menu > more > settings > your account name > labels to notify > setup each label you want to change the notification for.
If you're using t-mobile voicemail you cannot change the sound. I dunno if you can if you're using visual voicemail.
I use Google Voice for voicemail, and that app, I can change the notification sound for.

I wants me to enter a voicemail number. The at&t store couldn't figure it out either.I install youmail, it says I don't have any messages but I have a voicemail notification

Press and hold the 1 button in your dialer. It will dial your voicemail. Back out and check the logs for last call. It will show you the number.
where you able to check via holding the 1 key, or is that when you are told to enter a voicemail number? and you are using youmail and or just downloaded that thinking it would help, att can help with att vmail but not youmail.

not sure if you fixed it... but i had the same issue when i first bought my infuse.
turned out that i wasn't even signed up for voicemail on this device (coming from iphone > blackberry).
i went into "manage features" on my ATT dot com, signed up for "enhanced voicemail ($1.99/mo, but i believe this is the most basic voicemail service offered for this phone), and problem was solved.
hope this helps, if you haven't already fixed your issue.

thats because with the iphone the "visual voicemail" 'is attached to the iphone data plan so when switched to new data plan it was removed, you can get basic voice mail for free, main difference btwn basic and enhanced are
Greeting Length - Maximum: 1/2min
Message Length - Maximum: 2/4min
Number of Messages - Maximum: 20/40
Days Messages Kept - New: 22/30
Days Messages Kept - Saved: 14/30

I came from the iPhone also - I was wondering why I didn't wasn't getting my voice-mail.. Instead of paying at&t a just used Google Voice for my voice-mail instead -its just as good as the visual voice-mail.
You mail changes your voicemail number to their number. Call att and ask them for your voicemail mail number the original one. I called and they gave it to me, this was after using Google voice and I wanted my original voicemail back.

This is what I had to do.
Enter the code, *004*1(your GV# w/ area code)#
- That will change your "Call Forwarding" settings
To get the phone to dial your GV go to the Voicemail settings, select "Google Voice", and then immediately press the "Home" button. When you go back to look it should have stayed GV.

have you gone to phone settings > call > voicemail > and made sure that the phone is actually saving Google Voice as your voicemail service and settings? mine would not actually save google voice in this field until after i had entered the call forwarding dial code mentioned above. took a few tries, but eventually i got it. also, try going though voice.google.com and making sure all your settings there match up with what you are trying to do.

I tried this trick and it worked, which is to say now it shows GV as my vm provider and any voice messages left for me are going to my GV inbox.
However, I just cant seem to get the notification working. Despite the boxes being checked in settings on my phone, it does not let me know when I have a new vm.
Any suggestions please?
Having the same problem. My google voice number is still linked as my main Sprint number though, so I wonder if that's part of the problem. Right now, I can get calls to my google voice number on the one x, but I get no sms or voicemail notifications. Really close to just sticking with Sprint and getting the EVO but I'd like to make this work if I can.
When I try to change settings on the phone, I get a lot of those "thinking" animations on the phone and it never actually accesses the settings. This is currently happening when I was trying to change my google voice voicemail number. It's supposed to be my google voice number, right? And should it be 1+ area code or just start with area code? By default, it was set to my at&t phone number so I am trying to change it.

same problem here still. i've got everything setup and functioning, and I even get my email notification sent to my gmail account as i have setup via voice.google.com, but i still dont get the actual SMS or notifications from GV itself. I distinctly recall the notifications working immediately after setting it up because the first thing i did was test out how well the voice transcription worked, but they haven't worked at all in the past couple of weeks...hoping google and/or HTC are on this.
Was wondering if this app can be installed and work. Tried to install it but got error connecting to server. Also when I made Hangouts take over SMS on my old phone sprint visual voicemail stopped working.

I'd like to know too. Will be buying from play store and voice mail app is only sprint app I use.
Same here. Anyone set this up? I hate having to dial in for voicemail.
I've been asking this question for over a week (on multiple forums). The only answer I've gotten has been to use Google Voice.
The real problem, I believe, is the N5 is not equipped to handle voicemail like Sprint's system works on smartphones.
Like others are reporting an LTE issue with Sprint, I think voicemail is an issue too. FWIW, I cannot retrieve any messages left for me by using the dialer method (long press 1).

In the past installing the APK for CM ROMs results in also getting texts from 9016 after you provision the application which has to happen in order for the application to function. That's why it would be nice to know if the Sprint N5 Flavor has this by default.
No. The 16gb doesn't have it installed. I tried installing it and got the 9016 texts.

My notifications about this are a missed call which is handled properly. If voicemail is left, I might get 9016 text...I might not. On Thursday I had a friend leave a message. I got the missed call but no other notification that voicemail had been left. I called him back on Friday and he told me he left the message. I checked voicemail via long press 1 and no messages. I just checked now via the same method and I do have 3 messages. No notification that any of them showed up.

I was running CM 10.1 on my Note 2 and used the voicemail.apk without issue. I was receiving the 9016 texts but the message was being downloaded by the VVM app. I simply blocked texts from 9016 and didn't have any issues. But the VVM app worked (sent system notifications too).
I have tried multiple versions of the .apk and haven't gotten it to work. I bought the Nexus 5 from the Playstore and haven't rooted it. As a stock phone I do not get the 9016 text I get the Voicemail icon, but I do miss the VMM app

Wait for the 4.4 compatitble apk. i'd just say for now its an incompatibility.
I don't see Sprint letting this go.
I'm very interested to see what Sprint has to say about VVM for the N5.
I think it would be safe to say they will provide a 4.4 kitkat apk.... they aren't going to stop their VVM offer....either it with the n5 or whatever.
I hope they do get one soon for you sprint ppl
Any update?
Does anyone know if this apk is available for 4.4 now? I couldn't find anything in the play store...

It didn't work. I rooted the phone, installed Titanium Backup, deleted the Visual Voicemail apk from Verizon and restarted the phone. Now when I dial *86 for the voicemail, the call automatically ends and touching the notification for "new voicemail" also just calls my name and ends the call. No ringing no, nothing.
Did you get fix the error? for now you could dial our own number to access voicemail ex: 347-xxx-xxx
