You probably have "filesystem" selected. You need to use "DocumentProvider storage" and should be able to navigate to/select your external sd card

Ok. I'm a bit confused. I'm on stock 3.2 Rooted. I just got a 16GB SD card and threw it in the Xoom. I was expecting to be able to go to SETTINGS>STORAGE and format the SD CARD. The system recognizes there is a SD CARD but it won't let me format it and won't let me save any apps to the SD CARD...even apps that are intended to be saved to the SD card. I also noticed that the SD CARD is saved to a pretty strange directory...something like mnt/extn and the actual directory /sdcard is internal? WTF?
Ok, someone please advise me what is going on...am I basically only able to view pictures and play movies off of the SD card and nothing else? I was hoping I could save apps to the SD.
The problem is, that the external SD-card is mounted read-only thanks to moto... No clue, why. I have to use ES explorer, activate root-explorer functions and grant su-rights to be able to write to the external SD-card. There are tools around which claim to unmount and remount it as r/w but those didn't work for me...

You can write to external sdcard--my Titanium Backup is written to the ext. Sdcard--but in Honeycomb, apps can't run from ext. sdcard. There's no need with 32gb of internal storage.
Just keep all media files on ext.sdcard--they take up way more space than apps do.

Yepp, as I say: You can write to the external SD-card, but only if the app that wants to write has su-permisson. Titanium most definitely has, otherwise it wouldn't be able to backup the system files...

You can change backup folder location to external card before making a backup in Titanium. Menu>Preferences>backup folder location
Hi there,
I got a 64gb sd card and I want to backup certain things with titanium backup, but it says the sd card isn't writable..
Is this a known issue? And is there anything to fix this?

It's some weird android restriction. You can switch the Storage provider in the backup storage location screen (its on top of the directory list). There you can select "documents provider".
Hi, I've got an S7 and I decided to try and encrypt the SD. It seemed to go okay, but now I can't see the SD card anywhere (I've looked in Astro File Manager, there's no option to Save to SD in the Camera and I can't save Apps to the SD card).
If you encrypt the SD does that mean you can't see it/save to it?!
Thanks
Can you access the SD Card via the normal File Manager?

No it doesn't show up, any suggestions? If I 'decrypt' the sd, it shows up again. Thanks

Yes, no problem :good:
Hello everybody, after selected external SD card as default is there any option to move app data to the external SD? Or I have to do manually with a file manager? And is not possible to do it with all apps, is there a way to know which app data can be on SD card and which not? And did anybody noticed a slower device with SD as primary memory?
Settings/Storage
Under storage setting you should be able to choose default location to internal or SD Card

Unfortunately, there isn't a supported way to move apps to SD card. I have not tried out 3rd party apps from the Play Store either. That could work.
The default location set to SD card just ensures downloads, pictures, videos, music etc., have SD card as the default location to save and not for individual apps.
You might try Link2SD from the Play Store to move your apps to external sd. You'll need to add a second partition to your sdcard though first, but you can do that with another app called Aparted and you'll want to backup any data you have on your sdcard to your PC first too, as partitioning wipes everything.

Good luck!
