My PH-1 Accessories - Essential Phone Accessories

I cannot hold a phone bare in my hand. I MUST have some sort of grip to hold onto. I found the Essential was like an ice skate. I could not lay the phone on my leg in the the car or on the couch, I could not put the phone on the seat in the car. Everywhere I put it the polished ceramic make the phone run away and gravity took over.
I ordered the following and so far I am pretty happy with all the accessories. I cannot post external links yet, so I have put the Amazon description from the item with will hopefully allow these to be pulled up.
Holster - HEAVY DUTY RUGGED Canvas Vertical AGOZ Carrying Case Holster with Strong Metal Clip Belt Loops and Velcro Closure
Rear case - TUDIA Carbon Fiber Design Lightweight [TAMM] TPU Bumper Shock Absorption Cover for Essential Phone PH-1 (Black)
Charging accessories - Car Charger + Wall Charger + Type C USB 3.1 For Essential Phone PH-1
Just received the charging accessories today, so I have not used the car or wall charger, but did you the USB cable to connect to my laptop. Phone charges slower with the standard 1/2 Amp USB port which is fine by me. I also have a number of portable USB batteries want to use as well. I feel the slower charging will be much better for the battery life in the long run since the battery is not user serviceable. The lighter charger seems to work fine, the only comment is the coiled cord if very thin and shorter than say one of my official Verizon Micro USB chargers, but it works find in my application for now.

My DYI car-dock

In my case, I bought 2 common "cell phone" mounts, with suction cups from AutoZone. The neck can be bent in whichever way one find convenient and it is plenty sturdy. These should cost anywhere from $10 to $20.
I then drilled a hole in the adapter's bottom plate and through the said hole, I have routed a micro USB cable, very tightly (yeah, one could use hot glue too, mines are both friction fits).
Now, I just slide the N1 into the cradles, so that it mates with the micro USB end protruding from the bottom of the cradle's plate and it works real fine. The USB connector provides juice to the phone, while driving AND acts to hold the the device in the cradle.
Nice job. I will be doing this over the weekend.

Accessories

Placeholder for Samsung Intercept accessory chat.
As far as accessories go, I have the Body Glove case. It's rock solid and very tough, if a bit bulky. I tried a cheapo hard plastic case, but it did not cut the mustard.
I have also found that the data/power cables are not fully interchangeable. When rooting my phone, I found that using a generic USb cable did not work. I used the included data cable and it was no problem.
I tried a screen cover, but the screen is tough, so it's not needed to prevent scratches. I wanted it mostly for poke and crush protection (leanign against something with phone in pocket) but I tore it off. THe Body GLove case rises above the screen to help protect, at least from flat surface.
I love my cheap Virgin Mobile phone.
I am seriously considering getting the universal wrist charger i found online.
It's available at thinkgeek

TPU type case that fits wireless cover

I am not having luck finding a protective case that will fit the 1020 with the wireless cover on the phone. If anyone finds a TPU type case, please post a link.
Those cases cover the video stereo microphone

Im looking for a case too that fits wireless shell.
hate to add another "we are looking as well" post but we are.
wife bought a silicone cover (hasnt arrived yet) i thought if it didnt quite fit we could use a hair dryer to make it more pliable to get it over top. Id prefer a hard case for mine ive used otterboxes on all my phones for years but im rather excited about the wireless charging hate the fact it looks like i get one or the other.

just do this lads
Interesting thing about Wireless charging in 1020, is fact that grossly overpriced wireless charging back hauses ONLY induction coil and connector, nothing else. That is why i thibk it is waaay overpriced than it should be. (universal wireless charging coil from china, that has buil in conversion circuit, costs about $6). I've got one of these, and taped it to the inside of my nilkin case (connector was a big problem) and it works. If you do not want to mess with connector fabrication, you can use original wireless charging back. Juzt sumply warm it up with hairdryer, and peel off the adhesive with coil. Then apply it to your case of choice, and voila, wireless charging with your favourite case.
1020 supports wireless charging ?
Not out of the box, but with the right case yes.

Id be keen to try and make my own case if its a generic coil

Galaxy S4 Case Qi Friendly?

Any suggestions for a Qi-Friendly Dual Layer Galaxy S4 case?
The Qi-receive I will be using is a generic PCB - thin type that sits under the battery cover.
I am considering the Spigen Slim Armor case, the Otterbox Commuter, and other dual layer (with outside material being smooth plastic) cases for under $40.
Galaxy S4 is such a fragile phone due to the thin structure, thin glass, and lack of external reinforcement.. The only metal reinforcement is the thin sheet of metal chassis.
I have already cracked the screen on my first Galaxy S4 inside a thin soft TPU rubber case and happened inside tight men jeans. Got it replaced by warranty plan.. Do not want to break it again..
PCB type Qi receivers are known for less distance and efficiency (The thicker coil, especially dual winding coils have longer range, but bulky and flaky NFC due to the unidirectional aluminum foil), and allows for less flaky NFC readings.
I am currently using the Spigen Neo Hybrid case for my S4 and it works perfectly fine with a QI charger
This mod for the SGP slim armor also works great for the Qi charger bump.

wish there's a case for the original qi case from samsung.
I just purchased a genuine Metal Slate color Slim Armor from my local store.
I insalled the Qi charging PCB receiver, and put the phone into the Slim Armor, works wonderfully.
The Qi Chargers I have used are a Japanese NTT Docomo Qi charger that came with my Fujitsu smartphone last year (which supported the Okudake Juuden), a generic white color USB based Qi Charger off eBay.
Both chargers works wonderfully, but the Docomo Qi charger has slight fast charging rates... I am using the original 2 amp charger that came in the S4 box. The Docomo Qi Charger can output 1-1.5 amps. My PCB receiver can receive around 0.7-0.8 amp (measured)
I can charge around 16-22% in an hour. When the battery hits 80%, it charges around 8-12% an hour... It also supports trinkle charge when it reaches almost full charge.
I can fully charge my brand new S4 with a brand new battery at full capacity in around 4-5 hours of time. If your battery has already worn down from discharging and recharging cycles, you can probably finish charging faster.
With the PCB Qi receiver, my NFC works very good even within the Slim Armor case..
I also tried to use the Qi receiver with the Otterbox Commuter, but has shaky connection with the charger. Even when the resonance frequencies pairs up between the receiver and transmitter, it emits a ever so slight coil frequency buzz. This is probably due to the fact that the distance between the 2 coils are at a minimal contact distance. If it charges, the charging rate is very slow, and sometimes when using the phone with light load like music listening with screen on, the battery recharging input is too low to keep up with the battery discharging rate, so I still lose battery percentage although I am plugged into the wall.
Hope this helps.
I'm using the ballistic sg maxx. It seems like a pretty thick dual layer case to me. I'm also using the wiqiqi receiver and versa charging pad and it works pretty good with my setup.

Indeed. I realized the Qi wireless charging on my Galaxy S4 has much better range distance compared to the older Palm TouchStone mod I did on my Galaxy S3.
Using the Neo Hybrid and the LG Qi charger here.

[Q] Must have accessories...

Afternoon team,
So I'm moving from iOS back to android next week, with a new Note 4 on its way!
I used to have an S2 and enjoyed the hell out of trying custom ROM's, but I'll get on to that in a few weeks time!
First off though, of course, is getting the right case and accessories. All opinions and set-ups welcomed!
Keep in mind, I use my phone as SatNav as I drive a lot, daily. Things like flipcases would be irrelevant as I can only imagine how rubbish they are to mount in a car. Also, I like tough cases as long as they aren't too bulky. The CaseMate for iPad Mini's are incredible (iPad mini is a main tool in my business). Wireless charging seems intriguing, so I wouldn't mind looking into that. As long as it works through standard cases?
I've looked at the Spigen cases, they look ok. But there's an awful lot of mixed reviews on here.
So, dream scenarios people... what accessories and case should I go for??
Spigen capsule i have got that one and is awesome, great feel, good protecion and it also looks god
Thanks,
The Spigen line look cool but I do find their insistence on 'Auto Focus' a little out of taste!
If you need a case then I can recommend Spigen as I have had them on many of my phones and loved them although I'm not a case user most of the time. I have the capsule for the Note 4 and I like it but with an already big phone it makes it bigger but not too much.
If you don't need a case then I would recommend the qi wireless charging back cover even if your not going to use wireless charging to charge the phone because to me it makes the phone feel better in hand.
If you are going to use wireless charging then I the Nexus magnetic charger looks good especially when used with a good dash mount.
Samsung spare battery kit is also good to have because it comes with a battery holder/charger and a slim holder as well.
samsung oem qi back cover, iblason armorbox case, itian wireless car charger, 3m scotch double sided outdoor tape, 3 coil desktop qi charger. thats all you need.
-Samsung Protective cover. I've tried many cases from Spigen, and other brands, but nothing beats the OEM cover for me.
-A pack of plastic screen protectors. Spigen, iSmooth, iCarez, Halo all fit well. I haven't been happy with any tempered glass protector.
-A decent Micro SD card that fits your storage needs.
I want to suggest
Xpower 2.4A Aluminium Alloy Micro USB Cable
http://www.agrade.com.hk/index.php/...inium-alloy-micro-usb-cable.html?options=cart
can also find it on Ebay
There's a crazy deal on flash cards today, 128gb at 80$.
For must have though my list is short
Case since accidents happen, I use a 10$ caseology who's gaudy label came off with some rubbing alcohol.
Tempered glass screen protector if you're willing to get it at bestbuy, so they'll put it on and you can return it instantly if there's haloing. They tried four protectors until one worked, curved glass sucks.
High amp car charger for rapid charging, mpow is usually on sale. Mine was 8$.
I like a flat wireless receiver tucked behind the back door since I randomly find myself around wireless chargers, make sure it supports nfc if you use nfc.
Firekat rom to double your battery life since zerolemon is expensive
