Suddenly OTG and Gear VR are not working on my S8 plus. no water, drop or anything. I have the device for only 2 weeks. No OTG device works (tried with genuine type c to usb adapter). It used to work like two days ago. I did factory reset and reinstalled firmware using smart switch. In addition, Gear VR is not being recognised anymore. PC connection and data transfer using the cable work ok. I believe OTG uses different pins. May it be a hardware issue? I remember getting some high-powered device connected before it stops working at all (using just a simple mouse). I tried everything.
I saw that a number of people have the issue on samsung support website. I hope it is not a known issue and samsung just does not state it officially (like the S7 edge pink line).
Please help or let me know if you have the issue too.

thank you for your reply. I have already checked the thread above. However, no working solution. Is there anyone who managed to figure out if it is a software or hardware issue? I wonder why it is stated as solved. I dont think the guy with the issue fixed it
I contacted oculus support about this issue. Seems to be a widespread software issue that happens with certain models+updates but they aren't doing anything to fix it for unlocked phones as only phones locked to a carrier are supported by gear vr.

Thanks for the reply. Does this also have to do with OTG devices not recognised? Do you have this issue too? What is strange is that Gear VR used to work. At least for a while on my unlocked S8 plus. I cannot understand how this may block the OTG devices. Is there something left in the settings that may block OTG?
By the way, I hope you are not referring to the network issue. My Gear VR is not recognised at all.
I'm having the same problem as you. I hadn't tried otg before the VR wasn't recognised but I can't use it now. Could be my adaptor though. People seem to have the issue appear following phone updates

Well I gave my phone to the official samsung service and waiting for their reply. I don't think I installed any updates before and after the issue appeared (at least not firmware updates but not sure about oculus or other apps) . By the way it is not the adaptor that has the issue. I tried many others on my phone. And the adaptor works with a friend's S8 (not plus). Only one works (well not really). It iss an OTG type-c to micro usb (bought from ebay) which comes up with a notification that high powered device was connected but then nothing happens whatever option I choose. And it is not a high powered device because it used to work. I tried even a mouse with its own battery. But if it was a phone update, I think a factory reset should fix it? It did not for me.
Do you think of taking your phone to the official service too?
A full factory reset also didn't work for me. From other forums it seems that other people who have taken them in for service receive a replacement phone. Some people however then mentioned that they encountered the same issue a few months later with the replacement. I would take mine to Samsung but it's a grey import and Samsung refuse to touch them even though it's the same model sold locally. If it's definitely a hardware fault I'll consider sending it away but it would be an international service which would leave me without a phone for quite some time.
Yes, you are right. Some people saw the issue after a few months of getting the replacement phone or even after restoring their google account and settings (without being able to get it fixed by factory reset). This is what actually scares me the most because it looks like hardware issue of the phone in general. It looks like a well known issue which samsung does not officially accept. SiImilar to the pink line on S7 edge I had before. Anyway, as charging and connection to pc still work, I can give my phone and get a new model later cheaper. The last two samsung flagships came with issues that (the most important) samsung does not accept officially. Maybe it is time to change brand (always android though).
I got my phone back from samsung service. They did not replace my phone but they replaced both the logic board and the type-c board. As expected, it works again with OTG devices and Gear VR as it is like a new phone after replacing all that. Installed all apps again one by one (not restored from backup) and everything still works. Hope it stays like that. So hardware issue? Looks like it.
I know this is an old thread, but I replaced just the USB board and it didn't fix anything. So maybe it's a motherboard issue?

I have the official Samsung USB Connection kit. Both connectors work fine immedeately after boot, but once the device has 'slept' they do not work anymore. I get a notification that the USB Connector is connected, but whatever I insert nothing happens. LEDs (on USB sticks, mice, ...) do not light up which seems to indicate that no power is applied to the port.
I'm running stock Android, rooted. Booting into safe mode makes no difference.
Any ideas what's going on?
You're not the only one, except that in my case USB sticks do light up. IMHO Samsung seriously botched up the automounter in their last update. I wonder how long it's going to take them this time to get their act together and produce a bugfix.

Good luck with that. I contacted Samsung support Benelux and was told it was because Amazon Germany had installed "German software" on my tablet.
Trust me, that is NOT the case...

You might be right, I haven't tried one of those yet. Of course, that would mean Samsung botched up the entire USB subsystem of our Note, which is kinda even worse.
Seriously, is anything done about this usb c**kup, or what? I bought my Note, expecting it to replace my venerable Archos 101 which, incidentally, had excellent usb connectivity three blooming years ago and on Android 2.1, only to find out that not only did I have to buy motherloving adapters for the Note, but on top of that that they don't even work properly.
I also came from Archos 10.1 IT so I know your pain...
My only hope is that we will soon get the 4.2 update, and that it will fix this problem.
If not, I'll probably going to flash CM on it to see if this works better.
Unfortunately, I've seen no CM reports that USB host works flawlessly.

Quick question, has anyone has the adapter problems while on Android 4.1.1? I tried my adapters on a shop showroom model of the Note 10.1 and they worked perfectly, but only afterwards I noticed that Note was running 4.1.1, while mine is up to date with 4.1.2.
I'm just trying to avoid having to send back a piece of equipment that, despite everything, I can barely miss.
One of the USB OTG tools (forgot which one) had a table of functioning USB host versus Android releases and last time I looked the number of 4.1.2 devices that hat USB problems was significantly higher than the 4.1.1 devices. So I have all reason to believe it is a software problem, introduced in 4.1.2.
EDIT: The tool is USB Host Diagnostics from ChainFire.
So, is there an easy way to go back to 4.1.1 on the BigNote? Mine came with 4.1.2 installed anyway and something tells me that, if I ask Amazon to downgrade for me, I'll be answered with a deafening silence, probably with a "Duh?" In there somewhere.
On second thought, scratch the easy part; is there any way to downgrade a BigNote without losing any of Samsung's added value (yes, I happen to consider most os what they added actually valuable).
Has anyone had the problem of USB no longer working? It charges the device, but PC will not recognize the device - no icon or ability to see it as a drive in the PC. I've tried different cables and laptops, but same problem. (And the old cables & laptops work fine with my other USB devices). The phone & USB worked flawlessly the first 4 days I've had it - no problems transferring files from PC to phone & back.
Bone stock Galaxy S6 128 GB on Verizon.
Win 8.1 on Yoga 13 and Win 7 on Latitude 6400.
Thanks for any guidance.
Check to make sure the drivers are on the computer and try a different USB ports

Make sure USB debugging is checked. Go to about phone. Go to "build". Tap on it rapidly until it says you now are a developer. Back out of about phone and go into the new option "Developer Options" and check USB debugging. When you hook up your phone you may get a popup that asks if you want to trust this computer. Say yes. On your notification page, it might say you are connected as an installer. Change it to media. Sometimes you need to toggle back and forth from camera and media.

Thank you. Yes, tried Dev mode and USB debugging, but no luck. Phone double-beeps when I connect the USB to it (and begins to charge), but no pop-ups on either phone or laptop in relation to storage / ability to manage files. No drive shown for the phone (whereas Thurs-Fri the phone showed up as an extra drive when I plugged it in.)
I also did a Factory Reset, just to see if going all the way back to square one would help. No luck there either. Phone still won't recognize laptop, laptop doesn't recognize phone.
That leads me to think something died in the hardware, firmware or something. This Win8.1 laptop works great with all my other devices.
I'm in the 10 day trial/return period (and coming from 2 yrs of flawless-except-****ty-camera HTC One M7 experience) - so if this is the "crap" quality people say is endemic to Samsung (srsly, 3 days and the phone does this? WTH), please let me know so I can get a G4 or Nexus 6 (can't go back to HTC M9 since the M7's camera was a 2 year prison sentence).

Been on the line with Verizon Tech Support for 2 hours as of this writing. Re-did all the diags, reset, Kies, etc. that I did Sunday from the VZN and Sammy websites. Combined with the re-setting of folders, Peel remote, TouchDown, etc. I'd done on the first phone, I'll have wasted a full day just fixing the phone.
Wish the HTC M9 had a better camera, G4 had better battery life or Nexus 6 had a better audio chip. If they send me a new GS6 and it flops again, does anyone have a recommended fallback phone to get as a placeholder until something better makes it to market (M9+ with fingerprint reader, better CPU, better camera)?

NO HELP FROM VERIZON "TECH SUPPORT" OR "WARRANTY" having spent 3 hours on tech support with Verizon...
Our Samsung GS6 failed Saturday (USB won't connect to any laptops using any cables) and I spent Sunday doing Verizon's online fixes (including safe mode, factory reset, Kies, etc.) and 3 hours with Verizon tech support this morning with no resolution.
Verizon is calling Samsung and "will get back with me later this week" if and when they find or make sense of other field failures that match my phone. (Really? And how would Zappos, Amazon and other customer service benchmarks handle it? Yep, overnight a new one after 5 min call and issue RMA for the defective item to be overnighted for tear-down / fault analysis). And by the way, my wife and I are paying for "next day" replacement and within the 14-day trial period...
So one would think Verizon would overnight ship a new GS6 out to me immediately and have me ship the defective GS6 to Samsung for tear-down analysis.
That's not the case. How Verizon is handling this frankly has us spooked that Verizon does not in fact stand behind either their products or "warranty" services.
I'd hope that our 14-day return-policy time-clock be reset and a new GS6 black 128GB be overnighted to me, or find some way of extending the return window (since the device, and its "warranty" and the customer "service" have all failed within 2 days of receiving the phone).
Think I'm going to be stuck with the LG G4 or maybe even swapping carriers.
Go to a store. If they can't do anything ask for a refund.

One of my laptops is personal Win 8.1, the other is corporate Win 7. Neither laptop recognized the Samsung GS6 after day 2, but worked flawlessly up until that time.
Still nothing back from Tech Support / Samsung "researching" the problem. Total WTF with those yaboes.
Monday I engaged the team who originally sold us the GS6 at our local store, and they're saying my new phone (replacement) will be in the store by Sat 6/27. 5+ days without a phone, but if this replacement doesn't suffer any issues, great.
Have you solved this issue? My wife's meet the same issue. And we did a lot ..... But it still no work.
This happened to me today. Computer would not recognize device. I toggled USB to camera mode then back to media device in phone settings and my pc recognized it again.
Hi, I bought a used Verizon Note Pro 12.2 SM-P905V and when I got it, noticed that the wifi is very flaky. Initially, it connected to my router fine but took 9 hours to load 120 apps when I signed in to Play using my normal Google account. So I did a factory reset, and then it wouldn't see my router at all. Restart router, factory reset device, no dice.
In the notification shade, wifi icon is always green as if it's on, but when I go into settings, the toggle is off. When I slide it to on, it turns gray and after a minute or so goes back to off. Multiple hard resets, still the same issue. Occasionally, it will "see" the routers, but this only lasts for a few seconds and then they are gone.
So I decided to flash the firmware. I did not complete another factory restore before I embarked on this, but had only just gone through the initial language screens and signed in on the tablet with a brand new Gmail account that had nothing on it. So I downloaded official 5.1.1 ROM from Sammobile, installed device drivers, installed Odin, (followed some great instructions found on XDA, thanks), got the tablet into download mode, connected to laptop and Odin on my laptop showed connection was live and it began to do it's thing. So I left it alone for 30 minutes and when I came back, Odin read "all done!" (or something similar) highlighted in green , and the tablet had restarted, so I assumed all is good.
However, I expected that the flash process would have wiped the setup I had begun on the tablet, but it did not. And the wifi issue still exists. Looks to me like nothing has changed. So two questions for you:
1) Does this mean that the flash did not happen correctly?
2) Do you have any suggestions on how I can fix this wifi issue? (LTE works fine but I don't want to eat up all that expensive data.)
Thanks for any help!
Wifi circuit has many components on mainboard and I believe it's beyond abilities of most users even professionals as you cannot find components and schematic to fix them.
Your best source is looking for this tablet with a broken LCD like this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/172145691764?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...069075?hash=item1a15927393:g:D8MAAOSwbYZXZKDb
If you don't have the need to LTE connection, Note Pro wifi mainboard SM-P900 also fit but you need rear camera for SM-P900 as rear camera of LTE won't work in Wif mainboard.
Any LTE Note Pro 12.2 like P907T( Tmobile) P907A ( AT&T ) mainboard will fit to P905V as they are exactly the same mainboard, except firmware, bootloader and software loaded into it.
I swapped a SM-P907A mainboard to a SM-P905V tablet, it works as an AT&T tablet because the software is for AT&T.
I purchased a verizon note pro 12.2 SM-P905V refurbished from groupon last October. For the last few months the wifi on the tablet has been very flaky. I have a number of devices and only this one frequently drops connection. I never upgraded from kitkat I and was hoping that this issue was software related. Seeing that moransw is experiencing the same problem with this same model but is trying to get back to sock kitkat gives me concern that a software update will not resolve the problem. The other problem I've been having lately is that the device no longer recognizes the stock charger, and will now only charge painfully slow. I've tried a different charge cable from a samsung s6 to no avail. Is the SM-P905V a lemon?
You should use this one to test your charger and usb cable
http://m.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=u....Xusb+voltage+current&sqp=usb+voltage+current
If you're using correct cable and charger, current should be 1.7 A and voltage should be 5.3 V
Test with known working cable and charger, if nothing is different you should consider to buy new usb flex charging port, around $10.
These basic steps you should do first as nobody can give exactly an answer with many unknowns. It happens to many used tablets, not just this model.
These basic troubleshootings are easy done for simple problem of bad cable, charger or USB port
Try them first then post your results if you need more help for further steps

Hello guys. Yesterday I bought a Samsung Galaxy S6, the "normal" S6. I bought it from a guy, tested it 2 times everything fine but today I discovered that the rotation is not working properly. When i dial *#0*# and test the sensors, all pass but the gyro test fails. The phone doesn't have warranty, and I wanna know guys if you also got this problem and if you fixed it. If not, I could replace the gyroscope/accelerometer or what the heck is not working in a GSM service?
A friend told me that if the sensors are damaged then the phone can't be repaired. Please help me if you can. ?
PS: Sorry if I typed wrong.
If your friend doesn't repair phones for a living, then perhaps you should ask someone who does if it's repairable....

Changing rom doesn't solve it? I haven't tried this yet..
It is possible that it could be a software glitch. I had the issue with my ex-S6 Edge, I got it fixed by telling Samsung to reinstall the firmware for me.
I now have an S6, I used Samsung Smart Switch yesterday to reinstall the firmware on my phone. It fixed some issues I had along with less heat and better battery runtime. I suggest you do the same, it's worth a try.
Just be sure to charge your phone to 100% and use *only* the original USB cable from Samsung. You could end up with a bricked phone if you use third party cables, other users have ended up with such fate.

I have the original cable, but if I use it there are no chances of bricking it right? I did 3 factory resets already, and I cand replace the sensor with problems, it will cost me pretty much. I also have something with the camera. It looks like it takes whiter pictures, I think. I'm going tomorrow in a store to see another S6, to see if the cameras are the same.

If your phone isn't rooted, if you haven't tripped KNOX. Then you should be good to use Samsung Smart Switch to reinstall the firmware. I used it just about four days ago to reinstall the firmware on my S6. Solved many problems for me. It's worth a shot before replacing the hardware.

Go to system settings>display, see if you have a setting called "Accidental Touch Protection" and if it is enabled. That feature could be activating and then freezing the screen when you try to turn it back on.

Hi there! What was the answer or Solution by technicians? Did they solved the problem?
Hi all there! As I see this issue is the same that A52 has. It's a typical factory problem that could be solved charging the main flex. That's the definitive Solution !
I have the same problem with my A72 (A725f)XID
Any solutions
I tried downgrading it didn't help
Changing the screen of flex also doesn't help
So it's a software problem
But any solutions???
I have the same problem. It seems that all A72 series are affected by this problem. The flex cable appears to be problematic. Almost every Samsung product I purchased had issues. So, never again Samsung.
Sorry for late reply for all questions above. My A72 was not even a year old it was sended to numerous shops from Samsung to the cheap Pakistani shops and it is Un repairable they said that there might Me a chance to repair it if I replace the main board but to find one is very scarce and a new one is almost the price of a new device.
To me personally I will never get a Samsung again my next upgrade will be Huawei,Google pixel or a Xiaomi or anything else I do think that the better devices like Samsung galaxy S22,S21FE and Z fold won't have problems like the A72 or A52 or there was just a big bach of manufacturing that went wrong.
But do let me know if you guys got it fixed in any way maybe I can have a try to fix mine then but to replace part for part and hope that it will be fixed is a expensive route to go.
No just make sure your next samsung is from the European or North /South american market
Then you won't have no issues
I use The A53 & A52s 5G now & i don't have problems

I ordered a new main flat cable, and it was supposed to be delivered yesterday, but stupid NordPost in Norway did not deliver it in time. So, I must wait until Monday or Tuesday to get it. Basically, my phone has been opened and lying since Wednesday. I will update you, when I replace the cable. In any case, original main cable in Norway is very inexpensive. It cost me 110 nok or 11 euros.

No just make sure your next samsung is from the European or North /South american market
Then you won't have no issues
I use The A53 & A52s 5G now & i don't have problems

My A72 is from Europe. It seems it doesn't matter where it's from. All A72 models are effected with this problem.

You are lucky it is not expensive here in South Africa every thing is expensive if I take a guess it will be around R400, my phone acted actually weird because it started to have unresponsive screen restarted the device then will work for a few seconds then will have the same problem, sometimes my network signal will totally disappear and there will be two round sircles, sometimes when I charge my device it will show the phone is overheating even though the device was not even on for a while other times it will show the charging port is wet I can't think that the flex cable will cause all that problems
