Hi,
Earlier today I was using Google Maps and suddenly the phone went blank and a couple of lines showed up on the screen each a different color for 2-3 seconds and then the phone turned off.
Then I held the power button and it took longer than usual to come back on.
This is the first time this has happened.
And no this is not like what happens when an app hangs/crashes this was completely different and not normal.
Do I have a defective unit?
This is the first time something like this has happened.
Is there a way to check an error log or something?
I've had this happen 3 times so far, twice in the first hour of usage and then once again the next day. Since then (several more days) it hasn't happened at all. Another user reported having this happen 10 times on the first day and support told him to uninstall twitter, I don't have twitter installed myself and hoping that the issue has cleared itself up as it seems to have gone away, though I can not imagine why it would.
I received a new pixel yesterday and haven't had any issues at all out of it. It could be a software bug, but I didn't take any chances and contacted Google.. glad I did. If this new one does it I'll report back here.
Happened during one phone call... I have the next 3 hours in an airport and I'm leaving the laptop off so i think if anything is going to be so problem it will probably happen here.
Mine new pixel has done it twice in the past hour.... IDK what to do.

Been down that road; this is a replacement, because my original one did the same thing. I'd like to be able to use my phone normally.
This happened to mine about 3-4 times a day and happened once during safe mode. Most of the times I was unaware and found the phone had spontaneously rebooted and I'd be forced to enter my password to get in. Sometimes it would reboot while doing something (send a text or checking something out in settings) and at other times would reboot while just sitting at my desk.
I contacted Google and they asked me to get a new one from my carrier (Rogers), so that's what I did today. I'll try the new one and see what happens.
BTW, I found the Bluetooth really flaky on mine.
Pixel 2 Issues
Yeah. My pixel 2 did the same exact thing yesterday. Two vertical blue lines show up. My phone went black then turned off. Took several minutes to restart. Forget this! I've had so many issues with Google.
This just happened to my phone, on the new update so assumed it was something to do with that as never noticed it on the original firmware. Was on the XDA app, screen went black, completely dead, didn't respond to anything apart from a very long press of the power button, and eventually got the Google boot logo.
What is going on?
---------- Post added at 06:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:40 PM ----------
Just happened again within the space of 15 minutes, again I was in the xda app, screen went unresponsive, then black with two horizontal white bars that faded out. Left it this time and it eventually rebooted itself. What the hell

Sorry to hear that man! I'm thinking about returning it. I emailed Google a picture I took. Half of it was blue. I haven't heard anything back. This has been so frustrating!
This just happened to me on first full day with the phone, in the middle of typing an email. A shame everything was going perfectly otherwise. Sounds common enough that replacement (at least for now) could have the same issue. Maybe if it's common enough Google will make a statement about it, but seems unlikely. Oh well 14 days left in return window I guess.
Edit: if it's indeed due to the software update at least potential for a software fix is high. Also explains why no reviewers complained although I have a sneaking suspicion they might leave stuff like that out to stay on companies' good side...
i'm done
Google's QC is extremely suspect. I'm on my third Pixel 2. The first one rebooted randomly in safe mode, the second had a bad OLED panel (blotchy, should have never passed QC) and the third one just rebooted itself in safe mode. I'm sending it back until they sort their stuff out, this is ridiculous.
I'm seeing this again on my second Pixel 2 - will contact Google again and see.
I've had this on two devices so far, but after switching to the 8.1 DP I haven't had a single issue. Weird but seems software related.
I've had a few crashes, but they've been so intermittent in the few weeks I've had it that they've never annoyed me enough to think of returning it. If enough of us have had it, I doubt it's down to hardware and so it's likely to be something software based.
Only reason I'm even writing this is because I'm sat on a bus, wasn't even doing anything in particular and the whole phone froze up and I got some weird pink lines across the screen!
Same here. I'm on my 2nd Pixel 2 and am really starting to question the build quality of these devices. The first one had a slight gap between the back glass and the frame which, I'm told, was a manufacturing defect and can compromise water resistance. Well, the 2nd has is too but I don't want to spend another day going to the Verizon store and setting up my phone again.
Now I've had 2 or 3 random shut-downs, with a significant delay before the phone will reboot. Came here to see if others were experiencing it - at least I know I'm not alone with this issue.
I haven't had a shutdown with my Pixel 2. I've been running 8.1 DP since the first week.
Sent from my Pixel 2
I have Pixel 2 , black, and no shut downs or random reboots at all. I've been using it for two weeks. Screen is good, though it is pink hue. I did notice low ear piece volume (especially when I am outside), but im still testing it.

Some of us are having problems with our Captivate randomly shutting down. AT&T technical support thinks it could be apps that we've installed. Could they be right? My replacement device didn't start shutting down again after 3-4 days of owning it. By that time, I have already installed some favorite apps. Here's my list. Let's compare and figure this out. It's just a theory. Can't hurt.

Thanks. I just posted on an existing thread over there. I will do a hardware master reset later and observe again the next 3-4 days. Samsung gave me the directions. (Hold the volume up and down plus the power button, all 3 buttons for 15 seconds, etc.)
most are saying that its bad RAM/memory and exchanging the handset fixed all the problems

Is there a memtest type application for android? Bad memory would make sense, but so would a number of other theories.

Yeah, that's their answer for all problems, big and small. I'm sure in some cases it's valid, but the reset is used more as a "what the hell' reply rather than a knowledge-based solution.

...which I agree to some point. Some users just end up loading crap on devices which screws things up (some of the apps mentioned above might be crap, or not, not sure, it's only a theory. Of course, a perfect device is a unit that can withstand ANY apps you feed to it. But we don't have THE perfect device (yet, or ever).
I will do the hardware master reset in a few minutes and not load anything for 3-4 days (but I will enter my Gmail account and let it sync with my Contacts, Calendar, and Email, but that's it...for now).

What steers me away from the app theory is that there have been several posts indicating that the random shutdowns have occurred with a stock device. No apps downloaded / installed.
I don't have an answer except to say that the master reset can't hurt. Realistically, though, if you go a few days without a shutdown don't sit back and smile like the Cheshire Cat. Sometimes the shutdowns occur weeks into ownership. I'm not being negative, just realistic.
I wish you well.

Agreed. Like I said, this is my second device and the shutdowns didn't start until 3-4 days after ownership on both devices. The reality (for me) is that the Captivate isn't so great after all after two devices already (sorry to say) but I'm not going to give up just yet. I have until the 31st to decide whether I will continue this 30-day early upgrade trial or take it back and continue to use my HTC Fuze and just let my contract expire (in October). If I take it back, come October, I will decide whether I will stay with AT&T and take on another (hopefully bug-free) Captivate, or move to Verizon and check out their Android phones -- HTC and Motorola devices!
I just did a hardware master reset. It isn't exactly a hardware master reset like the tech guy described it. He gave me the directions to "delete user data". It deleted the apps that I have downloaded from the Market, and other things. I don't know what else. However, when it booted up again, I noticed my settings and widgets are still there. My homescreen was still customized the way I had it. So, it's not a total master reset. The software Factory Reset isn't also a total (software) reset. I did that and found some folders left in my internal memory (not my external MicroSD) from the previous working session. Hmm..
my captivate started to shutdown about five days ago. it's been doing it once a day, always in the morning. i wonder if it has something to do with the power management. the phone is always charged overnight and the shutdowns always seem to happen about an hour or so after i unplug it from the charger.
the one day it didn't shut down, i noticed that the lock screen was unresponsive (ie i couldn't unlock the phone) and i ended up having to power down the phone anyway.

Even after 30 days, you will still be able to return it (maybe to Samsung) for repair or a replacement. Good luck.

Mine has shut down twice, and I've only had it for 12 days. As you described, it happened both times in the morning, following a recharge.
I had to remove and replace the battery to get it to turn back on, is that the same thing that happened to you? I mean to say, did you have to remove and replace the battery to get it to work again?
The two Captivates I've owned (and returned due to a combination of GPS and Random Shut Downs) have shut down on me even in the middle of the day (not only in the morning after recharging for the night). It shut down on me while getting my afternoon coffee. I was showing the phone to the Barista, set the phone down on the counter to pay, picked it up, walked back to my office and just when I'm about to wake it up, it does the bootup. It also shut down on me at night while walking in the dark. I noticed my pocket lit up. I pulled out my phone and I saw the Shut Down screen as if you had pressed and held the power button (but nothing else was in my pocket that could have pressed the button!).
Random, I tell ya. Random.

no, i just turned it back on using the power button.
I just wanted to chime in to say that I am having the same problem. Random shutdowns, not necessarily related to charging. Often they are in the morning however. For me it has been happening a few times a day. Likewise, it seems to have not happened at first, but began a few days ago (I have owned the phone about 2 weeks.)
Are you guys rooted? I have tried unrooting to see if that matters. I don't know why it would, but perhaps...
I'm kinda hesitant to post this, because I know you guys go through great lengths to emphasize searching first. I watched the video when I registered, nice touch. More forums could use vids like that!
oh well, here we go:
I have owned an Iphone every since they where introduced to the market. I have been wanting to make a switch for a while now. I was very close to purchasing a G2x back in April when they came out, but I held off. Well recently, a coworker let me check out his HTC G2 and I was amazed at the functionality, features, and other misc items compared to my old Iphone 3GS. I was never a fan of the slide out keyboard, so I knew the G2 was not for me.
Last week, I just missed the free promo on T-MO's web site, so Instead I purchased a G2X locally. I was totally unaware of all the problems you guys where having, as the typical review sites never mention these issues.
I have owned the phone for 8 days, So far here is whats been a going on:
7-29-11 Purchased the phone from Best Buy, decided to buy from them since they where the cheapest out the door with out rebate. I hate rebates! lol
Right before I am going to bed, I plug in to charge, and the phone shuts off, I cannot get it to power back up. I did not know about pulling the battery, I thought it had just died. I was going to wake up the next morning and take it back.
7-30-11 When I woke up, I looked around online, and found out about removing the battery and putting it back in. Now phone is working again.
I was able to get the OTA update to 2.3.3, right after the update, I did a master reset.
8-2-11 I downloaded a "radio scanner" app, and the first time I executed it, the phone froze, requiring another battery pull. Afterwards, the app ran fine.
Those are the only 2 major issues I have had.
Here are a few other things I noticed:
Screen: No separation, very slight light blur around top corners with lit black screen. Does not bother me, and I can't really notice it 99% of the time.
GPS: I know some have been having issues with this, for me, The time to get an accurate fix can sometimes take anywhere from 5-30 seconds. Even with the stock toggle always turned on, I do not always have the GPS Icon in the top bar, I don't know if I am supposed to. Can someone please confirm this?
WI FI: Seems to be working like intended, no complaints there.
BT: I have nothing to pair with the phone, so I will probably never know.
Making calls: this is kinda annoying, I will look through my call log and select a person, I see the dialer initiating so I put the phone to my ear, but a few seconds go by and nothing.... I look at the phone and find myself looking at the call log again, like the dialer crashed? Also, during the conversation the screen will turn off. I think this is normal, but when the phone detects motion shouldn't the screen turn back on?
Other than that, I love this phone so far. However, I do not want to swap handset after handset, refurb after refurb with T-MO or LG.
Is it possible that the phone will NOT continue to get worse as time goes on? Or should I take the first shut down as a sign of whats to come in the future? I have a 6 days left to take this thing back, but I am having a major conflict with myself about keeping it. What makes it even harder, Is I have already ordered a 32g micro SD, Trident case, and 3 extra data cables.
My plans are to root it, and run some sort of rom with it once I read up and half ass know what I am doing.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TLDR:
Have owned phone for a week. Shut down instantly the first time I charged it requiring a battery pull. Froze/crashed due to an app maybe Second battery pull.
Question a few functions but otherwise works like a champ.
Purchased case, micro sd, extra data cables.
thinking of taking it back and cancelling contract to avoid future headaches, but not sure if I should or want to at this point. need avdice please!
Doesn't sound like a lemon. The stock software is buggy. If you're gonna root it and flash another rom then you're gonna love this phone.
The GPS indicator is normal. It only shows when an app is using GPS for your location. Otherwise it doesn't show.
G2X CM7
It doesn't sound like a lemon to me either. I bought mine in April and my phone had a few reboots while charging overnight and two freezes in the first month. It has been OK since then, although I did not do anything about it (and I'm still on Froyo). The only thing I do is that I reboot my phone manually once in 7-10 days because the phone starts to lag. I believe this is normal for all smartphones including iPhone...or am I wrong?
Oh, forgot to mention when I hit the power button to wake the phone and go to the lock screen, I briefly see the last screen I was in before the phone went into sleep mode. Total lack of QA in my opinion... Will a rom fix this?
And yes Man of La Mancha, the iphone would get somewhat glitchy, but a reboot always took care of it. I didn't really have to reboot it too often, maybe once every 2 weeks or so.

The lockscreen issue is a known bug. CM7, or any ROM with 2.3.4+ doesn't have that problem.
So just to preface all this, the phone is probably toast, I got it the day it came out and I've done all the common sense things to get it up and running. I replaced the battery with a fully charged one (complements of LG) and tried to turn it back on. It gets to the LG screen, and sometimes the ATT symbol shows up, but no longer to the home sreen. After I've seen the LG screen, I can no longer do anything. I can however remove and reinsert the battery and begin the cycle anew. So has this happened for anyone else?
After a few minutes of brainlessly attempting to resurrect the device, it now consistently gets to the ATT screen. The problem is that the ATT animation only goes for a few frames and then stops. The blue led flashes slowly, and then nothing (or perhaps another LG screen).
Are you even able to get to the factory reset screen? because I'm having the exact same issue and I can't even get there.
I bought the phone in June and it's been working great until today. I was just using the phone as normal for hangouts when it froze on me. Obviously, I removed the battery and now it's stuck in the same loop that you have described where I have to remove the battery just to get to the LG logo screen upon booting.
Should I contact AT&T support or LG support for this?

Seems the only fix is RMA

Same thing happened to me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-g4/general/lg-g4-stuck-bootloop-rma-solution-t3279690
I'm pretty sure you have one of the 1.0 devices. This is a common problem among the first batch of G4s made before October 2015. You can check the hardware revision number by removing the battery. If it says H/R 1.0, your phone is useless now, something to do with the motherboard. Contact LG and demand a replacement, they know about the problem. It has happened to a lot of users.
I had this exact thing happen to me about a month ago. Also a day 1 phone. Took it into ATT to see what's up. They couldn't do anything since I don't have insurance. But they did suggest doing an RMA on the LG site for repair since the phone has a 1 year manufacturer warranty for parts. So I did that and LG fixed the phone and sent it back. Turn around time was like 2 weeks. RMA process was done online. https://www.lg.com/us/support/repair-service/schedule-repair. Best of luck
Today I was in the middle of typing up a Google+ post when my phone started vibrating and wouldn't stop. Realized it was completely frozen so I pulled the battery. At first t wouldn't boot then it booted up fine and I was like "thank god". Went to plug it in and I'm back at the boot screen. Tried my other fully charged battery and Best I could get was to the death star and that's when graphics got distorted then it rebooted and now its hard bricked won't even turn on. Got mine a day before at&ts launch on June 4, really thought by now the motherboard issue was all hype. So why would you have to go through LG and not just get a refurb swap through at&t? As long as there's no visible physical damage shouldn't be an issue I would think

so yeah AT&T is sending me a replacement, no drama. Not sure what insurance has to do with anything
Hi guys,
i'm having an issue with my HTC u11, basically when i'm using the phone randomly the swipe down screen (when you swipe the screen down from top to bottom to get the notifications) comes down.
For example if while i am writing a message then drop down screen will come down when i'm typing, i then have to swipe up and continue and again.
it happens more or less all the time and is quite annoying.
any ideas?
its okay, issue resolved. NOVA Setting had gesture switched on. Swipe down for notification menu, this was the issue. lol

I don't use nova and I have been experiencing this same problem so now what?

Yeah i though the Nova setting had solved it but it seems to be back again for me, although not as frequent.
I also experience the keyboard collapsing randomly too. Anyone get that?
Hi guys, thought nova got rid bit guess not. I still get the issue. Would this be a software issue or do I have a fault with my hardware?
Any tests I can do?
I reported my issues to HTC and they replied with the following :
To test the function of the touch screen please follow the below steps
1- Dial *#*#3424#*#* > the press accept.
2- From the options, mark Line drawing test > then press run.
3- Then start drawing on the screen to check if there are parts that do not respond
The screen does not have any dead or unresponsive spots tho and the test passes without any issues.
Does anyone experience the keyboard collapses also?
I might do a full reset soon to see if that helps any. If not i will be getting back in touch with HTC.
Did all this as well, and all the tests that I've ran pass just fine. I've also done a hard reset and it didn't make any difference. I do notice that after a soft reset that it takes a while for it to happen again. It's annoying as hell so I will be monitoring this thread. Whatever you find out from htc please update this thread so we can figure out what the hell is going on.

I also done the test and it was a pass.
I'm certain it's something to do with the software of htc. The UI has to have something wrong with it. Mind you it hasn't done it to me today yet and I'm nearly at the end of the day.
Has everyone got a case? Can't be case interference?

Exactly same issue here. Very very annoying. As a HTC fanboy I'm quite dissapointed. Phone less than 2 months old. I actually spoke to HTC today, they said they would have to book it in for a repair... Takes up-to 10 business days... I said this is not acceptable! Waiting for a email back.
I have emailed HTC back advising them that others are reporting the issue so unlikely that it's a single handset issue.
Awaiting their reply. No doubt it will be along the same lines that @dobknobby got and have to go through the 10 day repair process.
Will update when I get a reply.
I have had the same problem, and I have done the a lot of the same steps;
I tried several different screen protectors, thinking that was causing the issue. I have had no screen protector on for the last week, and yep it still happens.
Shut off edge sense, still happened.
Tested the touch screen, and everything passed.
Last night I noticed that it seemed to be related to the pressure I was putting on the screen, if I pressed down harder on the screen and slide my finger left or right or up the notification bar would come down. Did some more testing and for awhile I was able to reproduce it about 50% of the time. I rebooted the phone into safe mode (hold power button down and then press and hold the power off option for about 5 seconds it will ask if you want to reboot into safe mode). In Safe mode I could not reproduce it, Safe mode disables ALL third party apps.
WARNING: when I rebooted my phone to go back to "normal" all of my widgets and groupings were not on the screens, had to re add them.
After doing all this testing last night, I have not seen the notification come down, but like someone said it seems to get worse the longer the phone is running before reboot.
I was going to do a hard reset, today but that sounds like that may not help.
Not sure if this is software, but with the testing I did last night it seem to work fine in safe mode. However I have wondered if it is something with the screen, like is flexing enough for the sensors at the top to react to the pressure/flex.
Well keep testing and report back.
I'm also having some issues with the touch screen, but it mainly happens with the keyboard. I like to swipe to type, but lately I've noticed that it gets really jumpy, causing thing errors.
At first i thought it was touchpal so i installed Gboard. Problem still occurs.
I also removed my screen protector and tried did the touchscreen test.
---------- Post added at 07:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:08 PM ----------
I ran the line drawing test a bunch of times and yes, i now do see that mine fails to draw a continuous line on occasion. It only happens in the keyboard (squeezable?) area though.
I'm worried now that edge sense is damaging the touchscreen.
OK, i have ordered HTC u11 this morning from amazon, but i guess i will cancel my order. Had many problems with htc phones in the past. Saw many reviews and thought that this one is perfect with no flaws... Ahh..... Already ordered some accessories for my new device... It's really a shame to read this kind of threads. Hope you guys will find a solution and hope that this won't be a hardware issue.

I ran the line drawing test a bunch of times and yes, i now do see that mine fails to draw a continuous line on occasion. It only happens in the keyboard (squeezable?) area though.

Does your keyboard collapse when you are typing? That happens with me. Really frustrating when you are typing quite fast then the keyboard just disappears. Then you end up tapping a link or something that was behind the keyboard. You then need to go back to the page you were on and start typing all over again.
Are you running app killers? Stop boost+ auto. Apps updating from gplay can cause you to be kicked out of the keyboard, it can also pause/stop YouTube vids.
The edge sense system is 2 sensors stuck to the inside of the edge of the device, along the aluminium strips, they shouldn't interfere with the screen at any time.
Sweaty hands and greasy screen can cause the screen to misread your touches and gestures.
Running low on internal memory (sdcard) can cause all sorts of issues. Make sure you ALWAYS have a couple of Gb free.
Try to replicate the problem in test mode.

Personally I made sure to address all your points when trying to figure out what is going on. So none of this applies to me.

It doesn't collapse for me, but i do occasionally have the notification shade pulled down.

Same here, only I was told 7 to 15 business days. Offered to give c card to have a replacement shipped, but that is no longer an option with HTC.
So when I washed my M9, I was without a device for 2 days, but now that their phone is crap, it's going to be 3-4 weeks.
Unhappy....
I've not seen this with any of my Google phones but today the alarm went off and then the phone locked up while still playing the alarm sound. The screen was stuck at like 2am but it was like 6am at the time. Power and volume up buttons did not work to get to restart. I had to Google the fix and that was to hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
Video of it stuck.
This happened to my wife's Pixel 7 the first morning she had an alarm set with it.
Did you by any chance snooze it half a dozen times? It was only after she refused to get up that it locked. I think maybe it's a feature, not a bug.
That sounds familiar as if it might've happened once on my OG Pixel years ago, but I can't say for sure.

LOL! Good point.
No snoozing and it just locked up for the second time just now. The time is displayed but stuck at 8:16 and it currently 9:57, never had this issue on the 6. I'm wondering if I have bad RAM or something that is causing random lockups.
I do see that it vibrates when I press and hold the power button but I can't see what it's doing with the screen locked up.
Talking to support, they wanted the IMEI number and a picture of the screen? The screen looks normal but is locked up. ???
They have to put me on hold to talk to someone else for each part of the questions. I called Google support but it sounds like someone overseas.
I don't see what they can do, other than replace it. I copied everything from the old phone that was working fine.
They want me to back it up and do a factory reset. I just did that when I got the phone a few weeks ago.
Then they asked that I run the phone in safe mode for a few weeks to see if its a bad app that was installed.
I asked to speak with someone more knowledgeable and they needed to put me on hold again saying I could get an email from someone or wait to talk with someone. They then said I had to give consent for them to look at all my data. ??? After the long hold I was told that I'd be getting an email. Total waste of time.
My screen froze and became unresponsive when I swiped down for notifications while watching non-fullscreen video on Youtube TV. The audio continued to play. I recovered by holding down the power button for 60 seconds to force a reboot. I can't duplicate it though.
I have had these screen freezings too. By pressing power button for 30 sec it boots the phone back up. Then after a minute or an hour it happens again. Had to do factory reset two times already. That's the only thing that helps.
I have no idea of what is causing that.
Mine has done it three times now, had to power cycle it as mentioned above, and each time it was a different app
Here is their suggested fix:
Here are some additional steps to take to try to resolve the issue with your Pixel phone:
Troubleshoot your apps
Perform a factory reset
After each step, check to see if your issue is resolved. If not, continue to the next section.

SystemUI has crashed a few times on mine, which causes a lockup. Rebooting seems to fix it, for the most part.

You can report back that the factory reset fixes the bug for a while. But if I have to do a factory reset every week, I'm going crazy.

Just rebooting the phone fixes it for a little while. That's the trouble with random inconsistent issues. It could take a week or two or more for it to do it again. With a number of others having similar issues I don't think a factory reset again is going to do anything. I just got the phone a month or so ago and it was at factory default. What good would it do to put it back to factory again? Sounds just as unreasonable as using my phone for several weeks in safe mode to see if it's another program causing the problem.
Woke up this morning and the phone had rebooted.
RMA your device keep trying until you get someone that understands your issue. Google support is absolute rubbish and if the rep doesn't understand that you're losing all touch input just hang up and try again. It's frustrating but it's sadly the only way you'll be able to get your phone swapped out. I had this problem on my P6P and only a RMA solved my problem.
They offered to let me send it in and let their techs look at it for 2-3 weeks or take it to a local shop. I was surprised that there was an authorized shop in my city but what are they going to do with a phone that reboots every 5 or 6 days? I've not even had it 30 days but they said it was too long just be able to return it. You have 15 days. I pushed back and they set up a replacement but not before telling me about the option to mail it in a wait a few weeks. Who can be without their phone for a few weeks. I have to buy a new one and then have 30 days to return this one.
I do wonder if it's a software issue that Google will fix at some point but don't think so. There is a thread on their support forum that has not been locked yet with a number of folks with what sounds like the same issue.
Oh wait it's 21 days to return it.
"Remember that if we don’t receive your old item 21 days after your replacement ships, you will be charged $968.67, which is the full value of your replacement item."

I would attribute it to buggy software. My 7 pro locked up about a week into ownership. The last time I had a phone lock up was my last pixel phone (the 3). Not sure what it is but it always clears up after a couple updates. Maybe the same will happen for you.

I believe it's part of their call flow offering the repair shop or mail in option. There's always the advanced RMA option where they put a hold on a card you provide and the temp charge is removed once they receive the defective device. If you don't want the chance at getting a refurbished replacement do the advanced RMA sooner rather than later.
The phone froze on me 3 times already - 2 times using Samsung browser, 1 time on Chrome.
Android 13 QPR1 Beta 3.1 introduces a GPU fix, which will hopefully resolve this issue:
Fixed issues where a device's GPU drivers sometimes caused the system UI to freeze during normal device use.
I'm swapping it out for a new(?) one. Hopefully all goes well.
