Hey guys,
I have the unlocked sprint galaxy s8+ with the firmware/build number 955U1UEU1AQH3. I have a friend who has the same galaxy s8+ for At&t and it seems they have the 7.1.1 update. Also have a family member that has a note with 7.1.1 version on it and they have an unlocked verizon version. Why is the official unbranded samsung firmware not updated to any of the new software versions? Its confusing that there aren't any updates from 7.0 - 7.1.1. I am only seeming to get Android Security Patch Level updates, which is currently August 1, 2017.
Am I suppose to get the AT&T branded version OS in order to retrieve the latest real updates instead of patches? Is this a better option? If so, Id like to do so but keep my data without losing any of my apps and data, and also have a debloated version of the AT&T s8+ OS.
Please advise, thanks.
OP: Please move to Galaxy s8+ specific thread. Chose the wrong forum section

I have a Cricket branded Galaxy S6 model number: SAMSUNG-SM-G920AZ currently running Android version: 6.0.1 with Build number: G920AZTUS6CQB3. I don't believe Cricket is going to release Android 7 Nougat for the Galaxy S6 OTA so is it possible to flash another carrier's S6 firmware (like AT&T) without bricking my phone. And if so, how would I go about doing it?
You cant because ther is no TWRP for this model.

I wouldn't update it unless you HAVE to.
The phone seems to run best on KitKat from what I've seen.
Of course that operating system was what the designers of the phone planned for the hardware to run in the first place.
Other note phones are running 6.0.1
I have my Samsung galaxy s5 running 6.0.1. Also other note edge models are running 6.0.1 but I can't find the update for my edge model.
As the title says, can I use a ROM of SM-G935F EDGE Version to my SM-G930F simple S7 Version?
I want to do this because wifi call is missing from my actual version and the G930F version of my carrier hasn't got an update since Android 6.0.0. The Edge version on the other hand, it has the most recent update, 8.0.0.
Thank you!

For using a S7 Edge rom you'll have to flash the rom. I'm not sure if it is possible, but I do not recommend it.
And you'll have to flash anyway, so why not just flashing the SM-G930F 8.0.0 ROM to your device?
Just do an internet search for "sammobile SM-G930F" and you'll find the 8.0.0 update for your device. (Sorry, can't include external links yet)
Here is some information for flashing with ODIN https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/official-stock-firmware-update-odin-t3369431
Hello, recently I purchased a new Galaxy s8 plus. Yesterday a new update notification appeared on my phone, offered me to download a new softweare update.--> g955fxxu9dtf1, that was released in June 2020.
I have very bad experience with samsung updates, as they destroyed my previous phones. is it safe to download and install this update to my new s8+ phone? or is it a destructive "update"?
Thanks
