Can I put selotape on the back & sides? - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

Hi, It might seem like a stupid thing to do but having read that the back cover of the Pixel 2 is very prone to scratches and scuffs, I wanted to do something about it. I use my Pixel in a standard TPU case but my previous Pixel has got a few scuffs on the sides and back even though it was always in a good quality (Spigen) case. Grit must somehow creep in and rub between the case and the phone back and sides.
So I decided to stick wide selotape over the back and sides of the phone! I cut-out around the camera, charge port and small pin holes top and bottom and found that the fingerprint reader still worked when covered! I just folded the tape around the corners and covered over the sim slot and power/volume buttons. It doesn't need to look pretty as the case hides it all. It all seems to work perfectly!
My only thought is will it cause any heat issues or will the selotape react in any way? It will probably leave a bit of residue when i remove it but that can easily be cleaned off using something like GooGone?
I would be interested to hear anyone's thoughts as while it seems like a good idea, i'm not entirely sure!

Sounds like what you're trying to do is exactly what a skin can do for you.
These are the 2 most popular options:
https://www.slickwraps.com/
https://dbrand.com/
Difference between them may be the cutout? I hear Dbrand has a more precise cut meanwhile Slickwraps has much more color options and styles.
Though if you don't want any color or design and just want a naked look, Slickwraps has the naked series but it's currently not available yet. Maybe later? Regular Pixel had it so I don't see why Pixel 2 wouldn't receive it.
BONUS: Going on right now too with Slickwraps is that they're giving a FREE glass screen protector with any order AND 30%(Code: FLASH) if that interest you.
Hopefully this helps.

P3600 Full Body InvisibleShield finally available

Figures they'd come out with it a week before I'm thinking of picking up an Imate Ultimate 8150. But it's out for those of you interested link below.
P3600 Full Body Invisible Shield
http://www.shieldzone.com/item_description/HTCP3600I.html
Nice!! It's listed for the P3600i, but I guess it's exactly the same as the P3600.
Anybody tried it already?? Better than a regular silicon cover?
How does this work?
If it is stretched all over the PDA, how is it joined/sealed? What about removing the batter cover or using the thumb wheel? Is it fixed like cling-film?
Also, the screen is recessed from the surround so if it is stretched around the housing and screen, then there would seem to be a gap between the screen and this cover, so what will the sensitivity of the screen be like?

If you followed the link and watched the installation video showing it being applied to an ipod you wouldn't have asked.........suggest you try that first.

looks like it would be a least 3 pieces - one for the screen, then one for the keys, and one for the back - which does not protect the sides. And the video doesn't show how it fits on the phone, it shows how it fits on the front of a ipod - so don't be a smart a*s. He was asking how it fits on this phone not an ipod dumb a*s.

Get life....yes the clip shows it being fitted to an ipod......if you gothered to watch the clip you would have seen that the piece for the back also does the sides as they wrap around.....apart from the size etc the actual method of applying this will be the same.
Next time smart a*s do your homework rather than mouthing off.
Oh yes all my questions answered if only I had watched the ipod video.
Now All I need is an m700 that is exactly the same shape as an ipod, with all the buttons in the same place, with a flush screen, and well, all very ipodish, and then it will all be clear.
So this will be no more than a screen protector on the PDA. It will not protect the buttons or lower raised section of the housing. Also won't protect the sides (too many buttons), and it seems that the tight curves will be a problem for this cover. I can see this peeling off the m700 in a very short time
If you know so much about it, then can you explain how it will work with a recessed screen? Will I be able to tap it all over with a key and not damage the phone, and if I throw it in a box of coins, will all the phone be safe from scratches and chips - just like the ipod?

Lets get this straight....I haven't used this product...however when I saw the "link" I went to the manufacturers site to get a better understanding of it....
I watched the video and while it was of it being fitted to an ipod I got a basic understanding of how it could be fitted to a P3600i.
I didn't think it was "cling wrap", I understood that there would be several sections involved....including one for the recessed screen (yes, just like a normal screen protector) and I too would be skeptical of it protecting all parts of the phone.
There is a tendency in these forums for people to not search out information but to ask seemingly dumb questions.....
As this product is new for this model....why not just ask if anyone has tried it or ask the manufacturer for more information.....or is that too hard to do????
NOT FULL BODY...JUST SCREEN ONLY
The site says full body not Screen only, that's a separate option...
I would really like to know if and how exactly this works on 3600.
I actually have silicon case and screen protector for mine, but this would make it considerably smaller...
Bought and use the InvisibleShield
Folks,
I bought it and had it send to Holland. Took about 1 to 2 weeks but ok I am not in a hurry.
The full body covers basically all the shiny black plastic plus the screen. The rest (middles of the sides and the front keys) are not covered. Also offcourse the camera, speakers etc are not covered. However, and this is probably the difference between P3600 and P3600i the front camara is covered by the shield blurring the image. Now I have already put it on the camera but the next time I would use a hole puncher to add the extra hole. I probably will use a sharp hobby knife to cut an extra hole (on the other hand I never use video conferencing).
The plastic is more stronger and thicker then normal screen protectors. Haven't tried to scratch it on pupose and guess what I am not going to do it. If a scratch forms by accident I will mention it here.
The screen takes some getting used to with the new cover. The plastic does not "slide" as easy as the original screen protector or the screen itself. Maybe this is just in the first period.
The application process it pretty easy if you just take the time. Takes about 30 minutes if you do it slowly. Only 2 minor bubbles on the back but those are not really an issue, the rest is perfect.
Hey for 20 euro's I think it is a good deal. No horrible rubber case or GPS blocking metal case for me anymore. Only downside is that if the phone is dropped now there is no protection. This is only against scratches.
Lifetime guarantee so lets see how often I have to send it back.
All in all recommended so far (but that is just after 1 day of use)
I want to see it
Post a picture please
Isn't it invisible?..
See the invisible sheet
Well actually it is quit difficult to see but here are some picures. The picture from the side shows you some edges.
Edges
The edges that you can see in the pic don't seem to line up perfectly, how were the dimensions on the rest of the edges?
i've been thinkin of getting one of these since i saw them for ipods but that messy edge is scaring me away a little, also how are you finding the screen protector after a little more use?
Edges reply
Well the edges are more because of my talent I think. The reason why I showed you this is because at least you can see something. For the rest it alligns perfectly.
After using it for a while it still seems a great product. I accidentaly dropped the thing but no scratch at all. What you do notice is the slightly more pressure you need when using the stylo. Also the screen protector is not as smooth as the original screen making the sliding a little more difficult. Also the plastic sticks to your ear while calling. But all in all still recommended.
I just put it onto the white one...
...and it is invisible. You can see it only on buttons' silver surrounding, on white parts only the edges are visible if you try really hard. I haven't got a good enough camera to show it, sorry.
It has a sticky feeling about it (maybe needs to dry more?). I don't like it on the screen - feels sticky and thick. I'd say use a decent screen protector instead.
It came WITH the cut-out for a camera (it's 3600i shield, I've got 3600), so it fits like a glove.
Oh, it's not a stress-free, low pressure 15 minutes application like they advertise it. It's fekkin pain in the ar$e one hour job, you're swetting your ar$e off. And - I guess - you can never get it perfect at the end. There will always be a bubble or misaligned edge somewhere (or is it me?).
Long term use review to follow.

Same question for you... Any updates? Thank you...
Definately recommended
After using it a few months I still think it is definately worth the few euro's. Ok it sticks a bit when calling for a long time and I think I even managed to get a small scratch on it but I sort of abuse the fact that I have the shield. Store it with keys, never use a case etc.
No I have bought some useless accessoires such as aluminium case (blocks GPS) and the remote for mediaplayer but the shield I would really recommend.
Cheers,
Dimitri.

Nillkin Fresh: Review

Hey everybody, got a new case review. This one is the infamous Nillkin Fresh, which is Nillkin's second generation of flip covers. To be honest, I got this case because it works with the iloome ScreenMate tempered glass protector I got, which didn't work with any of my other cases.
I got the yellow color, and it looks very nice. The flip has a darker yellow than the snap on part, which looks perfectly fine to me. The flip doesn't stay down for the first few days, and it doesn't have a lock mechanism. But, with a few days use, the flap does stay down on itself. Now, at first it wasn't working with my tempered glass protector, so I just kept stretching the fake leather out, and eventually it stays. I just clamped it so it stayed stretched. This is a very simple case, and if you don't drop your phone a lot (like me) this is a really nice case, it has a soft lining on the inside of the flip, almost like micro-fiber, and it helps keep fingerprints away. I do like this case, but it's not perfect. You can also use it as a stand, just fold it back and slide it into the slot. I absolutely HATE this feature, as the slot sticks out from the back of the case, so I can't use it with the Orb Charger. I forgot to take pictures of it, but it is REALLY annoying. Overall, aside from that one thing, it's a really nice case.
Just to add on to OP, mine's the light blue one, a really sweet colour.
Has a microfiber (or whatever you call that) lining, prevents the screen from getting scratched.
The thickness. When paired with apps like Proximity AutoLock. you simply flip the cover and BAM, the phone locks itself. (Disclaimer: The app takes up quite a lot of battery though.)
Thickness again.
Thickness compared to a bumper. (if you haven't realized yet, I like blue )
The back plastic has got this pearly, glittery effect, too subtle to notice unless you're staring at it.
The front is a leathery kind of texture. Not real leather, of course.
It does destroy the edge swiping experience, with the exception the left hand side center (shown in the pic). May cause full screen SPs to bubble up too, but I have no idea, I don't use full screen ones.
How it looks. Mine has yet to become seasoned, so it'll topple if I don't support it. It has a hook that'll hook the front cover.
The headphone jack.
Those with a dbrand skin might want to take note, it kinda leaves a mark on the skin, but if you don't use the case for long enough, the mark'll go away.
I'd recommend it 8/10 overall as it makes it hard to use the phone using your left hand with the front flap, also, it makes my phone feel like a tank. But the front protection is great if you're not using a screen protector. But be careful of oil stains, they're almost impossible to remove from the inner lining. Washed it once, dried it and it feels like new again.
Edit, does anybody know how the hell do I resize the pictures? They're HUGE.

I have this case too, just never got around to finish writing my review. Mine is mint green (though some product pictures may appear turquoise).
Having a front cover in addition to the case is definitely nice, as I can drop it into my bag without worrying about what is going to hit against the front screen. Also very handy when talking on the phone with the flap covering the screen.
It's not slim as a ringke slim but not thick either, and the phone looks nice in it. I liked that it didn't have an actual lock to keep the cover on because it was easier to flip open.
It's so annoying when your holding it open. No comfortable way to do it.

Are the buttons easy to press?

Tbh it's quite hard. And trying to take a screenshot with both buttons is a nightmare. But I don't take that many screenshots anyway and the power button is not really that hard to press, it's just that their opening hole for the power button is a tad too small.

I can see the volume rocker is exposed when you open the case. The power button looks a bit hard. In my current case(looks like the ringke slim) i had to cut off the bar at the top to gain easy access to power button.

The way everything folds is just uncomfortable.

I got this case last week, black one. The plastic base is super cheap, there are at least two defects and the frame around the power button is simply bent. Although my flip cover actually rests perfectly on the screen, the plastic part makes noises everytime a little pressure is applied to the sides.
Went straight to the litter bin, I'd rather use my phone naked than inside this thing.
Just my two cents.

[SPAM] Poetic Affinity Case (lots of pics) <UPDATED>

I'll start off by saying that I was given this case solely for the purpose of writing an unbiased review. Here it goes!
UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE: Poetic has now revised the case where the formerly intrusive "P" logo is now moved above the fingerprint sensor. The "Affinity" branding that used to be on the right edge of the case is now completely removed. All other dimensions, accents, materials, cutouts, etc. have not been changed. The updated version can be purchased from Amazon (where I acquired mine) from the link below. Two additional pictures have also been added; one that compares the cases side-by-side and one with the phone in the revised case
<MODERATOR EDITED - SPAM REFERRAL LINKS DELETED>
My phone: Nexus 6P 64 GB Aluminum. Slickwraps skin applied; white carbon fiber back with white carbon fiber frame with matte black visor. Intelliarmor TGSP version 2.
Overall quality: There are two types of materials here; Black TPU and the clear stuff. I don't know what the clear material is, but I'd describe it as a malleable plastic. There are no rough edges
Overall Appearance: This one's subjective, but I like most of the design. I never wanted a case that was opaque. I always liked customizing my phone with skins and whatnot, so a transparent case is to my preference. However, I ultimately prefer having no back cover. Yup, I like true backless bumpers. Down the road, I might introduce a hobby knife to the back cover and remove the center clear plastic section for two reasons:
1. I like the phone to feel thin in the center
2. I don't like the possibility of trapping dirt/dust/sand/lint between the case and the phone (although the vinyl would protect my phone anyways)
Fit: The fit is pretty snug. When trying to get the phone into the case, it was slightly tight. I would probably credit that to the fact that I have frame vinyls applied. That being said, I don't think it's tight enough to warp the phone in anyway. "Snug" is the perfect descriptor here. Referring to the picture that shows the screen of the phone right at the edge, you can see that the entire screen glass is exposed. That means a full edge-to-edge glass screen protector should work here. I emphasize the word "should" because I don't have an edge-to-edge TGSP. I also think the frame vinyls might push the case outwards a slight bit, but it doesn't seem like that makes any considerable difference if you want to use a full coverage TGSP.
Buttons: Before I used the case, I only had the frame vinyls applied. The frame vinyls made it a bit more difficult to find and click the buttons. The case actually adds the "clicky" feeling back to the buttons. This is because the inner surface of the case that comes in contact with the buttons has protrusions that make direct contact with their perspective buttons. The vinyl no longer dampens the feedback of the buttons while using the case. The buttons are not considerably any more or less sensitive than a naked phone.
Cutouts: Please refer to pictures for cutout measurements.
Regarding the USB-C port, the cutout is sufficient. If you look closely at the picture where the phone is plugged in and laying with the screen up, you may notice that that case is slightly bulged outwards when plugged in. The stock USB-C cable makes slight contact with the case and causes the said bulging. This did not cause any difficulties when trying to plug the phone in. In fact, most probably would never even notice this at all. I'm just weird like that.
Referring to the headphone port, the cutout is enough for my headphones (which has a pretty civilian sized plug). However, I know some people like to use studio quality headphones that have huge plug heads. Those who use headphones with larger plugs may need to enlarge the cutout, but I'd venture to say that the included cutout dimension would suffice for the majority.
Referring to the camera cutout, only the area around the vital hardware are exposed. The rest of the visor is covered. Seeing that some people are afraid of shattering this glass, this may be a relief. Looking closely at the rectangle of black TPU around the camera, you'll notice the top and bottom bars are resting on the aluminum body as opposed to the glass visor (mostly). I would think this helps in the event of a dropped phone, as the impact would hopefully spread onto the aluminum body instead of the glass. I'm just guessing that would be how it works out. I'm not testing that for you guys!
Referring to the Nexus Imprint cutout, it's well bevelled. It's not rough on the fingers, but Imprint was more comfortable to use without any case (well duh). It's not difficult to put my finger onto the sensor, but it just felt like an extra edge to feel while trying to unlock the phone.
Feel in the hand: The case is actually pretty minimal. It doesn't add significant bulk to the phone, and allows the phone to still feel pretty thin. The side edges have have some ridges that add to the grippiness of the case. Aside from the vinyls, I've been running the phone without a case. The extra grip is actually much appreciated. The edges also raise the screen slightly off a flat surface when placed screen down. Huge plus because I like to leave the phone out at the dining table, but face down because I don't want the phone to interrupt my meal. The four corners of the case are also bulged ever so slightly. I assume this is good for shock dampening in the event of a corner impact drop.

I assume this is good for shock dampening in the event of a corner impact drop.

Good review, thank you
The frosted P kills it for me, which is too bad because I like every other design aspect of it.

After I get my "x only" Dbrand skins, it should look more acceptable. I'm probably still gonna end up making a true bumper out of this down the road[emoji1]

The updated version can be purchased from Amazon (where I acquired mine). Two additional pictures have also been added; one that compares the cases side-by-side and one with the phone in the revised case
I also received this case for review purposes, so if you don't mind, I'll just tack some of my thoughts to your review rather than creating another one? If you don't want this, just let me know!
I've been using this case for the past few days. I received the "updated" version that has the P above the fingerprint reader.
I enjoy the overall feel of the case. I like the ridges on the sides, it really allows you to get some grip on the phone, I feel less likely to drop it.
The buttons feel nice and click nicely, but because of the ridges I have a harder time finding them (and determining power from volume keys) when I'm not looking at the phone. I'm sure this will get easier over time.
I like the clear plastic on the back, I'm running mine stock without any skins, but it's still nice to see the faint nexus logo from the graphite version. As you mentioned that it felt like a snug fit, mine actually feels a little loose in some places, like the top and bottom.
The opening for the finger print reader is larger than the scanner, and I actually prefer this to one the same size as the reader. I feel like it's easier to find and unlock, and recognizes a little easier

I bought this case. Overall a good case, but my phone keeps turning on in my pocket (I've butt-dialed and accidentally texted gibberish several times since getting this case)

Something sounds fishy about that. Never had that problem even once. Also, it takes a fair amount of effort and coincidence to butt dial on a 6p. Gotta press the power button, followed with a way to unlock the device, then precisely press the dialer icon, and choose someone to call. You may want to look into it a bit deeper. I've never butt dialed a single person since owning any smartphone in any configuration in the past 5 years.

I have smart lock paired with my watch, so all it takes is a swipe (which I guess it can register in my pocket) after it wakes up (which it does from power button being easy to press)
Add that opening to a hangout notification and I've had it send my location to one person and call another - plus I'm frequently finding it having typed random characters (but not necessarily sent) while in my pocket.

I see. Sounds like all the planets aligned. If you decide you still want to use the case, I would recommend actually shaving down the inside of the button (the side that physically touches the power button of the phone). That should cut back on the sensitivity, but it's effort that I don't know if you'd like to invest.
Design of the Poetic Affinity has changed
They have now removed the AFFINITY branding and brought the P to be above the fingerprint scanner.

Whitestone dome review "A real review"1

Seems like all the "Reviews" are nothing more then install video's of people saying oh its so amazing. But if you dig deeper you will find issues that a proper review would of find easy. So lets review it.
Little about my self. I am and Engineer in the fiber optics industry. I wonk on the absolute faster detectors available. We use UV optical adhesives every day. So needless to say i know a thing or two on this topic.
The concept is great and when done right the best way to attach a screen protector. But this comes at a cost. Cheap out on anything and it will show. So lets look at this.
-Full cover. errrr not really Notch cut for the camera and sensors. Odd because optical adhesive you can go full over and have zero impact on those.
-9H Hardness. "Shakes head" No..Its not. They need to stop claiming this every company. Its not 9H.
-Beveled edges. This is a must. Ask anyone who has one that is not beveled how easy they chip.
-UV curing light is a good design and has plenty of LED's to cure the adhesive. "5w max" Honestly im not seeing those being close to 1w LED's. If people want i'll take apart the light but no heat sinking as far as i can tell. So im guessing 3v 60ma .5w each total max output 3w. And honestly 3w is fine. Its very thin and easy to cure.
Fixture is great and works very well. No complaints on that. Just watch a few videos and read the instructions and you will do fine. The Fixture is well thought out so hats off to engineers who did that.
The ugly. This is where things get bad. This is where you can see the corners that were cut and boy did they cut them.
-Dust removal sticker. Don't use them. Cheap sticker and will leave residue on the screen. Save your self some time and just put them in the trash.
-Cleaning cloth. Not optical quality. Again put it in the trash it will just put stuff on the display. Cheap fabric not a quality optical cleaning cloth.
-Alcohol wipe...Well the directions say that but the wipes included are Ethanol...Please tell me these are not medical grade. If so then they have some additives. Well again trash it and use some 95% or higher Isopropyl alcohol. Make sure no color or sent has been added. You want as pure as you can get.
-Absorption pads. Now i would love to say trash them. But you need them. Make sure you give them a good rub down to remove all the lose fibers on them. And give the long fibers that hang off after a little trim. You do not want one to get under the screen or at the edge.
-Dimples on the underside of the protector. You don't need these. They do nothing but put 4 contact points to your phones display. The adhesive will flow an even coat.
-The worlds cheapest UV adhesive...Guys its bad...Real bad. Give you an idea. In bulk the quality optical adhesive is expensive. Well you get what you pay for or in Whitestone's case you don't get what you do not pay for. I searched and i found the supplier for there adhesive. How cheap is it? Well its $1 per 30ml. Stuff we use is $30 per oz. or 29.9ml. Yup that explains everything. This is why they can give you so much and still keep that price point. But for this you want less but higher quality. Combine that with tubes that are not 100% air tight and you are begging for problems. Also keep in mine UV Adhesive's have a shelf life and exposure to oxygen age them faster.
Lots of people complain about the delamination. This is from bad UV adhesive. Keep in mind you have a bare glass surface you are attaching to a glass surface with an oleophobic coating. This coating does after the adhesion of the adhesive. So you really need the proper quality adhesive. The adhesive they use never fully cures. If you check out my video in the Deamination topic you can see even after curing then putting 200w of UV on it for an addition 20sec with a proper industrial UV curing station it never fully cures. Multiple kits i have tested they all do this. But its $1 per 30ml so what do you expect.
You will see pictures of the optical property's of the adhesive. It is my opinion that it is not optical grade. Also you will see a picture of the delamination.
Overall this is a 4-10. Held back by the extremely low quality UV adhesive. The most important part is the cheapest. This is why they cut the notch in the protector. Because it would affect the caners where a proper optical adhesive would have zero affect. I'm disappointed. This was hyped so much but no one really looked at it. It's a great concept held back by cut corners. The proper adhesive this would be a 8-10. This method with the proper optical grade adhesive could do a true full cover screen protector then it would be a 10/10. But i do not recommend this. Price is to high for the corners that were cut. The adhesive issue really needs to be addressed because i would take a few other protectors over this.
Message to Whitestone.
I tested Adhesives from 3 kits. Results were all the same. All the kits were ordered at different times as 2 were from Amazon and one was direct from you. I have identified this adhesive not long ago and this is typical for it. However if you want to play we only use the highest quality materials card then you can go ahead and send me a tube of it. It can be in the manufacturers tube or the tubes that come in the kits. I do not want another kit im only interested in testing this adhesive and i will give you one chance to test some prior and send it to me. I will then report my finding's on here and make a note of it here. If you would like to work together on finding a cost effective quality optical adhesive i have contacts with not only the distributes for these but also with the companies that make the highest quality optical grade UV adhesives in the industry. I do not want nothing in return i will work with you for free to fix this product so that future phones can benefit from it and i have the option to easily order a quality kit. I want a 100% coverage protector and working together this can be done. There is potential here and it is with the system developed for the install and that is what makes the product stand out. My work has a building in SoCal. I go out there a few times a year and i am more then willing to come visit your office why i am out there and we can talk.
Now i know i will get the "Mines perfect best ever" post. But those post mean nothing. You have not tested the adhesive. I have. You just have not had any issues with it yet and you may never have them. But i went ahead and i tested this. Same results every time and i know what adhesive they use now.
So, would you say this thing is a pass?
Thanks for the detailed review and focusing on everything, not JUST the adhesive.
I still got mine applied to my phone, and well.. it is there. The time it starts wearing off the edges, maybe I will apply the second spare one just because I already bought it. But yeah, a full, really full screen coverage one with perfect optical properties would be awesome to have!

I won't advise anyone to buy or not to buy this. Thats for you to decide. I'll answer any questions you have thought. I will say that I will not use this for reasons I posted. I won't buy another one until changes are made at the minimum in there selection of adheasive.
Could you point me in the direction of a good adhesive that you would recommend? (That I can buy online)

Me a bit nitpicking here, but...
Weird, the part of optical physics that I learned back ... long ago.. taught quite clearly that if there are any surfaces with different optical properties on each side, it will have an impact. And I'm pretty sure the adhesives do not match (optically) exactly with either glass it touches (let alone both). Whether those effects will be significant enough to be visible in the photos depends on the whole optical path (and sensor's properties), though.
Since none of the surfaces have proper coatings aimed for optical performance (more for anti fingerprint etc.), and especially the protector glass (the internal material, not the coatings) not designed for optics, I'd expect ever so slightly more lens flaring and similar effects. (If there would be a flash LED for the front camera, it could get really messy, but Note 9 seems to use the whole display for front side "flashing", which reduces the spot brightness near the camera lens compared to a LED flash.)
The adhesive filling the space between the phone's glass and protector's glass does make the effect much lesser than with a protector that sits a tiny bit above with a tiny air gap. So in that sense, with these liquid adhesive type protectors, I'd expect the effects to be indeed mostly ignorable. But not zero, per se.
For the other sensors than camera, the effect can be considered zero, since they are measuring mostly (more or less) spatial averages to begin with. A bit of fuzziness doesn't change their results. Hmm. though I don't know how the iris-camera works.
All that said, I'd still say to choose a protector that covers the lens area(s). A single scratch on the phone's glass over the lens can make a worse effect than a protector does.
Also, (me partially countering the point of having an effect): I have currently a really bad example of a protector myself; a normal cheap protector with a typical dot grid on bottom surface, a normal (non-smooth) adhesive even on the area of the front camera lens, not a perfect fit by shape, etc. That is, I can see the non-smooth stuff between the glass layers (when display is black, and on the sensor spots). Yet, the photos come out ok, so things can obviously be pretty darn crappy and still be ok for the front camera needs. Though, I haven't zoomed in or done comparative tests in more challenging lighting situations. (I will do better tests once other protectors arrive; I need to keep this one on for now, for its main task of protecting.)
Nice review, but the whitestone still beats having nothing on the phone. I did the ghetto "whitestone" on my Note 8 using a generic glass protector and LOCA glue bought on Amazon. Served its purpose and protected my phone when I dropped it on a gravel surface. Phone looked brand new when I replaced the glass with a whitestone version because the ghetto glue method was too time consuming to ensure no bubbles. I have installed 4 more whitestone glass screens on mine and others phone with no issues and would not hesitate to recommend it. The issues you bring up have merit, but do not deter the protective elements of the tempered glass screen. I would like a better glue solution as well. But until then, my whitestone paired with a quality case will have to do. So far it does just fine.

I can't get the same protection from a $12 protector. So how does it beat those in terms of protection? It offers no more protection then any other on the market. Infact the Zag elite offers more protection for the same price. The thicker gel adheasive offers significantly more impact protection. Much harder to put on and remove air bubbles but in terms of protection this is vastly superior. Where zag went wrong is not telling people how soft the adhesive is so they push down on it as hard as they can to get a bubble out and it cracks. And then they had to gimp it with some unnecessary bezzles that cover a bit of the display
Bottom line is the Dome is $20 over priced. The adhesive is trash and the olophobic coating is the worst I have ever seen. No excuses for this on something that sells it's self as premium. It's not. It's the same quality as the $12 Alibaba's and personally I would get one of those. Warranty is nothing since you could still get one on Alibaba shippped for the price you will pay for the warranty replacement. And it uses the same trash adheasive.
When you buy "Loca" it's trash from bad batches that they sell on places like Amazon or Alibaba or to places like Whitestone at a heavy discount because it's defective. So you are already useing a defective product from the start. These are facts. I tested these and posted those info. It's trash they pay $1 per 30ml of those stuff. And they call it Loca because it's not an optical adheasive. It makes it sound fancy because they can't call it a UV optical adheasive. Because it's not optical. But it's "optical cured" so Loca.
Facts are facts. I proven this adheasive is trash and defective from multiple kits. I'll test any of it. Got any left I'll test that Whitestone can send me some I'll test that because I know it's trash and it's from batches that were not mixed right. Multiple people have committed on this issues that's why I started testing this and looking into it because what they had in the prictures we seen before. Hell I can tell you exactly what is wrong with it. However working with a supplier when we had that issue I signed a NDA as part of them telling us every detail about it. Because we needed to know why it did that, when it started, how to test for it, how it will be fixed etc.
Like I said. If you use it and like it that's great. No problems with it that's even better. Get a case drop it face down. On a hard surface so it only hits the case then protector is unsupported and you will have delamination. I did this as part of the big testing video I'm doing for this. 2 drops it started.
Also I'm willing to work with them. All my test data as well as some samples I'll send to them or take to then when I'm in California. I love there install method and it will be a home run when the corners that we're cut are fixed. They pay $1 per 30ml of adheasive I can get them a bulk order that ends up being $1.75 per 30ml if they buy bulk lots. That's optical grade I'll send them the contract info and the sales rep I know for there. Use that and it's fixed. I tested that adheasive on this also and it works just like it should. I really want them to improve it.
As of right now now on my desk I have 35 different uv optical adheasives and more on the way. One manufacturer is even making a custom adheasive to test for this application. This all started as a simple test it and see what's wrong with it but due to all the people asking it's gotten much bigger. I hope Whitestone reaches out to me and I can get them the test information I have so they can improve the product.
Hi, I have been following your findings and it is an interesting matter for me at least.
Anyway, I wanted to write an update about my using the Gear VR with the default Whitedome / adhesive installation.
Previously I mentioned I got the "bubbles / webbing" permanently at the very bottom part of the protector, on a central area right above the USB connector (about 10mm wide, 1mm tal), after having the Whitedome applied and using the GearVR on the next day. Now it has been a couple of weeks maybe, and the bubbles part is still there (size unchanged apparently).
What I want to add is, something a bit unexpected (for me) happened: I used the Gear VR again yesterday (several days after the Whitedome installation) for around one hour, and and after taking the phone off, there were MORE bubbles / webbing in a different area, almost horizontally oval in shape, around 1.5cm wide by 0.8cm high. It was positioned about 2cm ABOVE the early thin stripe of bubbles, completely separate from it (not a continuation). I was pissed off because THIS was on top of the screen and obstructiong the image, really annoying. As it was late I decided to just go to sleep and deal with it when I had some free time. But to my surprise it was COMPLETELY GONE this morning. The previous thin mark at the bottom remains. But I can see no trace whatsoever of the "new" affected region..

That's delamination from defective uv adheasive. As in my video you can see it cures about 50% and then still leaves some wet uncureable adheasive behind and is in some cases acting as an indexing gel. The delamination is still there you will need a microscope to see but masked by that adheasive that's wet acting as an indexing gel.
I got a gear VR on the way. It's on loan from a user to test it with another adheasive. I'll test this and see how it holds up. Run the phone hot and do multiple install and removals then do a few battery drains why it's in the vr. Glad this is a work phone and not my personal phone.

Then it's more product inconsistency. Friend said his is holding up ok. I know mine had scraches in it after a few hours. And one of them out of the box had a burn in the coating as well as a deep scrach deeper then the olophobic.
Any product recommendation or where we can get the good loca glue?
I personally would be interested in a tube of high quality adhesive if anyone is able to source some. Perhaps the OP would be able to point us to a supplier?

Ouch that looks rough. Never had those issues on multiple protectors but inconsistency does happen of course with all products. If they don't provide adequate service or replacement though, well then that's a different issue

I posted this before. I will say Whitestone sent out a replacement kit for it for free and we're very easy to deal with and gave me very fast responses. So the service is great even though people say it's bad my experience was great. I reached out to them on Facebook and not via website so maybe Facebook is the way to go. And I noted all that when I made that post.
I would do the same for the adhesive but I know they can send out 1,000 kits they will all have this issue because the Adheasive used is from defective batches that had issues with the mixing process. I mean it works...but you will never get a full cure and will have issues under the right conditions and those are relatively common. But some people may never experience this.
But all of them so far have had pretty bad olophobic coating's. One is like it had none at all. One had the coating burned "pic in the previous post" and 2 just meh. Nothing great. But that's fine because I use the leftover ceramic coating I used for my car on my screens since it's better and thicker so I usually get over a year and 1/2 before I see any decrease in preformance. But this Stull is around $400 for a small bottle for a car and after not much is left. But Walmart sells a few kits. One is a great kit and only $12. If people wanna know what kit I'll let you know. Around here only one a almao had this kit in stock. "gerogia" the rest had other brands.
I'm one of the 'lucky' ones who has had no problems whatsoever. Going on three months and still getting compliments on how nice my screen looks. It's like I don't have a screen protector on at all.
I'm completely dissapointed from Whitestone.
I have been using it for weeks and yesterday, (all of a sudden) the tempered glass started to have a small line in the left edge of the phone and it seems like it is kinda lifted.
Unfortunately, the company wont help me, because I didnt bought it from their authorised stores

RhinoShield 9H Tempered Glass Screen Protector

I haven't seen much on this screen protector and had to add my experiences. In my opinion this is finally the "perfect" screen protector for the note 9. Its a little expensive but totally worth it. I have two Note 9's and I have installed one on each phone. I ended up getting one that had a small imperfection causing the one side to lift overnight but after a few emails and pics to RhinoShield they send me a new one for free. They did have two different ones listed on their website but right now I only see the one thats full adhesive. The install is a little different than most but not hard and the alignment tray they supply works great. I would watch the install video so you can get a perfect install. The only cons I noticed is some dust can collect on the sides but not as bad as the dome glass. It also has black borders and the sides seem to get cut off a tiny bit. This isn't a deal beaker because the edge panel still works perfect. This is not an edge to edge but I prefer that also so it works with any case. I have tested it with the RhinoShield SolidSuit and Crashguard as well as two Spigen cases and it fits perfect. The SPen feels great and touch sensitivity is also very good (I did turn on the increased touch option). After trying a TON of screen protectors this in the end all for me. I was very surprised to not see any real reviews on this one.
This looks nice.
Is it full adhesive and does it go on easy or are there a lot of bubbles that are hard to get out?
Just had a complete nightmare with the ZAGG Elite and don't want to go through that again.
Can you get it on Amazon or only from Rhinoshield?
It is full adhesive. That is what makes it so good. No rubber feeling from a wet install no messy LOCA glue and no stupid edge glue that pops off if you look at it wrong. This was my install method I was able to do two like this with ZERO bubbles. Im kinda OCD with screen protectors.
1. Clean (DUH)
2. Place alignment tray on, clean again and use dust stickers that are included.
3. Peel off protector back film and place the screen protector on the phone but dont press it down.
4. Once its aligned in the tray perfect I used my knuckle and ran it down the center of the phone.
5. Slowly run your finger/knuckle from the center towards the edge but going up and down the phone evenly. These stick with more of a "tacky" glue unlike the "static cling" from most full adhesive glass protectors. If you get a bubble make sure to work it out as you go even lifting it up to make sure they are out. Once its stuck down I dont see them every working out. You will see what I mean when you do it.
6. When you get to the curved edge it will stop sticking and leave almost when looks like a bubble from the top to the bottom along the edge. I just started at the center of the edge and pressed the screen down SLOWLY all the way to the top and then the same from the center to the bottom. Do that on both sides and sit back and enjoy your work.
Im convinced there is not a better protector out there including Dome Glass. I even bought an extra for backup if anything happens to them.

And I looked on Amazon but dont see it. They have the one that's just the edge glue. But don't bother with that one.
Going to order on and test it out with some optical adheasive. So the glue they use is it like the gel that Zagg uses on the elite? I like the full cover of this one.
Never tried the zagg one. I thought I read reviews on that one and they wernt that good. You really won't need to add anything to this one. Just don't leave any bubbles as you Install it thinking you will get them out after it's all the way on.
I'm going to order one also. Sounds kind of like the Elite but I'm praying it's not.
Nah Zagg elite's work great. Just idiots don't know how to install them. My beef is Zagg makes a great product...then goes out of there way to gimp it. The black bezzles are absolutely horrible. Cuts down on your screen size and even installed perfect you get a little light leakage.
Ya I hear you on that. This one has the black borders that suck but as long as I can still use the edge panel and I dont see bubbles I'll take it any day.

I've installed many of full adhesive protectors over the years and I'm no idiot. Never have I seen a glass protector that cracks as easy as the ZAGG Elite.
I will try the Rhinoshield and see if it's any better than the Elite. I like that the sensors are covered with the Rhinoshield. Just ordered one up.
Is the alignment tool a plastic border that goes around the phone like Zagg uses?

Just ordered 2 so I'll have a spare in case I screw up the first one.
Ya it's just a plastic frame that you put on from the top and it has little tabs to center it. It's simple but works good.
I'm pretty easy on my phones and don't ever really drop them but the glass on this one seems pretty good. We will see how it holds up on the woman's phone she is a little rougher with hers. I'm glad you ordered one so I can see what someone else thinks about it.

I would be interested in this also... If these idiots would stop making these worthless curved screens it would be all good. Just got my wife a Moto Z3 and it's a nice phone thinking of getting one also to have a flat screen again.

I agree and absolutely hate these curved screens. The one thing I liked about the iPhone XS Max was the nice flat screen, full adhesive protectors went on like a dream.
AGREED. But who wants a damn iphone lol

My wife, my daughter and all their friends.
Ya half my friends too. I wont let my kids use them unless they want to buy the with their own money.
Oh come on!
I bought the RhinoShield tempered glass protector a few month ago and came with no frame to put it on the phone, and was only border adhesive with only top and bottom black borders.
But on the side on randomly on the center of the screen, the same ugly rainbow effects we usually got (and dot matrix too).
The bottom left corner had issues since it wasn't responsive anymore either (probably due to the inability to put it correctly because no frame to help even if all seem to be symmetric).
Not satisfied.

I believe Rhinoshield had both an edge sticker like you received and the full adhesive version. I ordered the full adhesive ones.

I just see they provide now two versions. On their install video, they provide an installation frame for it too.
I won't try the experience I think, especially when it said that it's not edge to edge

You can try GadgetShieldz their screen doesn’t have any Rainbow or halo effect(If applied correctly) and they make the minor scratches disappears.

I'm not fan of plastic protector. Not smooth enough for use with swiping, plus it really attract dust.
Ya they did have two versions. I never bothered with the edge only glue because they all seem to suck. I'm telling you the full adhesive one is by far the best one I have tried so far. It's not perfect but its as good as we will get because of the curved edges.
