I purchase an AL00 (on purpose) and happily received a sealed package displaying that it contains the AL00. However, when I turn on the phone everything is in English, it is Google play, and it displays LON-L29C432B146. I feel like I've been duped...or is it the hardware the same but I need to flash the AL00 firmware?

Either it was rebranded or just the wrong packaged phone.
You would have to rebrand to AL00 to install AL00 firmware.
If you ordered the 6GB ram / 128gb storage you have been duped if it wasn't rebranded.
I'm still reading up on these devices. It seems like my hands aren't tied with this device like others when it comes to flashing stock firmwares. So the device hardware between the two devices is identical?
Same happened to me. You can just re brand at your own discretion though! No differences in hardware as far as I know!
Also, if I understand rebranding correctly, this will appear as a different firmware version in the settings, not just the equivalent of a CSC change? I'm wanting to use an app that relies on reporting stuff from the baseband and I need to make sure rebranding is more than just superficial.

The good news, I ordered (and received) the 6/128 phone. Now all I can find is how to rebrand from AL00 to L29, and not the reverse...

You could use: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-rebrand-chinese-al00-mate9-to-t3554656
Or: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/how-to/guide-mate-9-flash-update-package-t3593108
Which ever way you pick you need your bootloader unlock code.
You can either create a huawei ID on http://emui.huawei.com/en/plugin/unlock/index then you login using that ID on your phone. After 2 weeks, login to the same page, enter info and get your unlock code. Unless you already have a HuaweiID added, then use that to login.
Or buy your unlock code using dc-unlocker or similar site.

I've just purchased a Mate 9 from Hong Kong. with English menus. Its a great phone BTW.
In the future, I may want Boot Loader access to change the ROM. Understand you have to have a Huawei ID in order to request a BL code. I don't speak Chinese. IF I register for an Huawei ID on the phone itself, it appears that I'm 'forced' to register in the REGION: China.
If I register on my PC (I'm currently located in the USA but work/live a lot in Asia and Europe), the PC defaults to the USA Region for ID registration.
Considering my overall goal is to change ROMS...which region should I register in? Thinking BOTH may be the best bet...unless serial number are a criteria for registering in only ONE Region. Jeeze, did they REALLY have to follow the customer unfriendly DVD/DRM model with region coding????
Thank you for any guidance or personal experience stories that could help with this decision.
You can do USA region for your Huawei ID without issues. Many of us have already written steps for bootloader unlock in other threads. Here's some helpful info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70076360&postcount=2
Thank you.
Thanks opasha!
I was worried if I registered in the US, that Huawei would tell me to pack sand...because I brought a HK model in from abroad. As of this time Huawei doesn't support the Mate 9 6GB/128GB model in the US.
All the best.

You mentioned your phone is 6GB/128GB. In that case, it's a mainland Chinese model, not a Hong Kong model. I'm assuming it's MHA-AL00, right?
If that's the case, you want to register as Chinese of a Huawei account as you possibly can, because they will only help you with the bootloader unlock code if you write them in Chinese, send them screenshots with your phone set to Chinese, and so on.

Indeed...you are right! It is a MHA-AL00.
So, I guess better to register in China to get the boot loader access code?
For this version...do you think the European / International ROMs would work even tho there is a big difference in memory? (6/128 for China and 4/64 for International/EU). I'd prefer to have the international ROM over the Chinese version...but due to the differences in memory ..... a ROM for a different version might not register the expanded memory capacity.
Thoughts? & Ty.

If you have the bootloader unlock code, you can turn it into a European version, and all the memory still works. I've done this myself.
Since Best Buy is killing Huawei sales I assume I need to rebrand my device to receive future updates. Is anyone else thinking the same? How would I do this? I haven't seen a guide for rebranding the US variant. Please help
You could rebrand but as the updates are linked to the IMEI numbers you should use firmware finder and see which ones would be accepted by Huawei. Even though my IMEI was, supposedly, registered in the middle east, the ROMs I can load, with rebranding are the C185 and C900. Otherwise you can download via FF what might work, when they come out.
My concern after talking to Huawei was they are going to drop support for the Mate 9 prematurely and focus only on non-USA models.
It looks like they will ban the company from the USA in the near future, as well as a few other Pan Pacific phone makers.

So even if I rebrand I may not be able to get updates for the region I branded to on FF because my IMEI is linked to US variant? If that's the case why should I rebrand it at all?
The problem with rebranding is that your hardware might not support it fully. The world does not operate on the same telephone frequencies.
Like I said before, if you are on a USA model the C900 might be your best bet. It is the international version of the C567 ROM. Some C185 can run on USA phones too.
Run FF and check your IMEI against different versions to see what your phone will accept.
You can rebrand and run what you want but a lot of the update mechanisms are linked to your IMEI. There are many that rebrand to other versions without consequence. It is also true that some rebrand blindly and get bootloop.
RESEARCH! Read the forums and find out what works. Use the Firmware Finder tool and see what branding your device can officially support. Then decide on what amount of risk you want to take.
I have rebranded my C567 to C432 and have no problems with OTA updates. I'm currently on latest publicly available Oreo version. Others do have problems, and that's for sure. I don't really know the reason why.
I do use Firmware Finder to check for availability and approval of new firmware. Besides the first forced procedure of rebranding which involved unlocking the bootloader (which wiped my data), my phone always got OTA updates. I do however have a UK SIM in one of the slots so I'm not sure if that made any difference.
If your going to rebrand, I recommend you downgrade to Nougat first (I found it easier to rebrand using Nougat than Oreo).
And, since you have a c567 model, you can downgrade easily using the hi suite method.

Hi,
in some tests and reviews they are talking about devices with 64GB internal storage capacity. But if i search for it, it's almost impossible to find offers. I found two offers. Both sellers present phones with EAN 8801643085445. Can somebody confirm this capacity?
Thanks in advance
*edit*
After a long search i found it. Samsung sells the Galaxy A8 with 64 GB in middle east. I have no clue why it's restricted to this region.
Here's the number: SM-A530FZKGXSG
Here's the samsungpage: (i am not allowed to post as new member)
There are some sellers which import it to europe. But i have no experiences in warranty. 4G shall work...
I ordered one piece with crossed fingers and hope it works. At least, I hope the post will help somebody, who is searching for it too
Hi there!
I was looking for the same model and have realized the same thing you've found.
About availability, I found it on eBay. Where did you find it?
About warranty, if you need local warranty, you have to buy it into your country.
If you're ok with European warranty, it has to be sold by an European entity with rights to do so.
If you don't care about warranty, well you can get it whenever you like it.
I'm seriously thinking in trying to understand in how to keep it under the 32Gb

Hi Pirata, Here are my experiences:
I ordered it on ebay. There are some sellers which are specialized in grey imports Some of them offer a one year warranty. I paid 345€.
As opportunity there's a onlinestore called techinthebasket. They deliver from GB. But you have to pay a fee of 20 €, if you want send the phone back.
No import fee as long as they deliver from european country. Most of them deliver from GB as long as GB is part of EU ^^
At least, every A8 with 64GB is imported from Middle East I bet. Its working with european simcards. I readed to start the phone without simcards (also to install updates and doing resets). If the phone is resetting with simcards, the country ID (MID/MID/MID) will be changed and as a result you don't get updates anymore.
I am very happy with this phone. Its a big boost in compilation to my old Honor 5X
It's unique here... and it's mine ^^

Hi there and thank you for sharing your experience.
I have some questions regarding your post. Please let me know.
You say that the shop you mention imposes you to pay €20 in case you need to send back phone for any reason.
Do you know why about that?
You say that they deliver from GB. Can you tell me if the invoice is from GB or from some other EU county or worldwide country?
Where have you read about the fact of not turning on the device for the first time, or reset to default, or wipe, or update the device with the ota updates with the local European sim card inserted?
Which should be the correct procedure for using a 64Gb A8 in Europe? Simply do those four things I mentioned all without any sim inside?
Do you know why about that? What are the precise consequences of doing that with the sim inside? Only not receiving otas updates? Is there a return back possibility, or if I forget to remove the sim card and do one of those things the phone ends up in not receiving any ota updates, not even if I wipe everything away with no sim inserted and start all over again??
Thank you very much.

it seems, the online store techinthebasket provides a german and an english page. The return-fee of 20€ is noticed at the german page only. I don't know the reason. At least I didn't bought it there.
The update policy of Samsung is pretty annoying. If they don't sell officially a phone in a country, they don't provide software updates. When you insert the simcard before you start the phone first, it will recognize its a different simcard and ask you to restart for configuration. This "configuration" will change the language and countrysettings. Once it's changed, theres only the opportunity to flash a stockrom.
There are several german threads because it's not selled official here.

So wait a minute...if I start the phone for the first time without sim, once I insert it, it changes configuration and since that time on I will no longer ota updates????
Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
When you start the phone first time with inserted simcard, it will ask for a restart. You can skip and ignore it.
If you allow the restart / configuration, then you are in danger to not get Ota-updates anymore. That's why it's recommended to remove simcards when you reset or update

So first boot, reset or update better to do without sim cards inserted, and every time I get an ota update, remove all sim before applying the update.
Is this correct?

Just received CLT-L04 8.1.0.120(C792)

First , you need to unlock your bootloader.
Then, you can rebranded to L29

Unless your looking into rooting your phone to get core access for roms, sub themes and such you shouldn't worry about bootloader and unlock codes. Plus the codes are selling at 30€ which converts to over $50 cnd. I've been with the P20 Pro for over 4 months now haven't felt the need to unlock it. This is from someone who's been rooting and customizing every device he's ever owned over the many, many years. Just can't find the need to root, especially for 50 bucks. Definitely will if it ever comes free again, or at least reasonably priced.
Since getting this device I've received monthly security updates. So no worries on that end. BTW in Ontario.
Ain't very interested in running Pie beta on it, gladly wait for the official. Again, ain't worth the 50 bucks.
As for your device not getting updates, or not sure if it is. Did you receive the 120(C792) that was released a few days ago? Have you checked the update settings? Update only over wifi on or off are you connected to a wifi?
Of course a device reset may fix this also, but reset your phone.
I recently bought a mi mix 2s online. Phone was presented as brand new global version. It was from a srore and not a private person so i thought all is good. Phone came and first thing i noticed there were no seals on the box..seemed a bit strange..went ahead open the box and everything inside was in chinese - all the paperwork and all writings on the box and everything. Not a single word in another language but chinese...i thought wow...there is something wrong here..turned the phone on and the first thing that catched my eye was the little lock sign saying unlocked...phone booted normally and it was on the global rom, did its updates and all and is working fine. What i think happend here is they are buying devices from china and unlock their bootloaders, flashing global rom and selling them as new global version in the usa. Mybquestions here are:
1. Is there any difference between chinese and global version of the phone (hardware)
2. Can they legally do that? Messing with the software unlocking the bootloader and sell the product as brand new?
Thanks

1.The only difference is in Mobile bands (LTE/3G/2G see attachment below) Global model has some extra bands...
2.They can do that, they are selling you the official device with official software.
You can specifically ask for the global model which ends in ...XA and probably you have a reason to return in because they are providing misleading info or something like that.
Some sellers like to play with the information for example they will write "Global ROM" which doesnt guarantee that the model will be global one.
They can also say Global Version which 99% of the time means global model.
Whatever you do DO NOT LOCK the bootloader with GLOBAL rom or else you will be stuck in bootloop and will be near impossible to fix it!
Chinese phone also comes with Chinese charger (Global phone comes with EU adapter)
The easiest way to identify the phone is by looking at the back of the phone there is a model number, if this number ends in ..XA its the GLOBAL, if it ends in ..XE its the Chinese one..
Just don't lock the bootloader with global rom and you will be fine.

Maybe couple bands are wrong, but XE definitely has less bands.
Thanx guys! It is the chinese model, cause its sn ends in XE. Kinda suck cause i was planning on using it in europe too..anyway it's funny pi4a7a mentioned the charger, because mein is an us plug, which is strange because i read online that they coming with eu plug and us adapter..anyway as i said before phone is working fine and i'm happy with it.
Edit: funny how the seller promote it as global model
That's a Chinese plug, not US. Only difference AFAIK is that it has no holes in the prongs, though.
Keep in mind that your bootloader being unlocked means you won't get OTA updates and your phone is insecure.
You might be right about the plug, because all my other devices has holes in the pins. But i've got at least 4 OTAs since i got the phone. I'm pretty sure if u have stock recovery u can accept OTAs without issues, custom recovery and OTAs is what u don't want.
