CLT-L04 Canada version P20 Pro not receiving any updates - Huawei P20 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi guys, I got a CLT-L04 Canadian version P20 Pro. My build number is CLT-L04 8.1.0.109(C792). I am not getting any updates to my phone. I really wish I could have the Turbo boost update on my phone. What should I do in order to get those updates? Many thanks!!

Wow it's still on 109... This is why I rebranded to l29 c432. Now days to unlock bootloader though you have to pay for code.

Thanks! what is bootloader? why do I need code for that? I am new to Android.

Just received CLT-L04 8.1.0.120(C792)
I'm from CA, Quebec.

I'm in Quebec too, but I already rebranded to L29
First , you need to unlock your bootloader.
Then, you can rebranded to L29

After that, you're free now

Unless your looking into rooting your phone to get core access for roms, sub themes and such you shouldn't worry about bootloader and unlock codes. Plus the codes are selling at 30€ which converts to over $50 cnd. I've been with the P20 Pro for over 4 months now haven't felt the need to unlock it. This is from someone who's been rooting and customizing every device he's ever owned over the many, many years. Just can't find the need to root, especially for 50 bucks. Definitely will if it ever comes free again, or at least reasonably priced.
Since getting this device I've received monthly security updates. So no worries on that end. BTW in Ontario.
Ain't very interested in running Pie beta on it, gladly wait for the official. Again, ain't worth the 50 bucks.
As for your device not getting updates, or not sure if it is. Did you receive the 120(C792) that was released a few days ago? Have you checked the update settings? Update only over wifi on or off are you connected to a wifi?
Of course a device reset may fix this also, but reset your phone.

I'm hoping its a stock phone so when google do an update and release it, I don't have to wait a few months for EE to release theirs.

Best thing to do is ask EE through twitter (@EE). They're actually very helpful. Post your findings back here. )
I never thought about asking them, I'll do it now and let you know.
It's stock android.
However, the bootloader WILL be locked. Only unlockable if you're PAYG or after your contract is up. Dunno how this will affect OTA updates.
I don't really believe that it will be a stock OS because they'll most certainly want their WiFi calling app on it.

I'm with EE and bought my Nexus 6P from Google directly and WiFi calling works just fine. I'm hoping it's stock but knowing EE, it'll have some form of rubbish on it that prevents proper Android OTAs.

Hey that's promising then - it could mean the Pixel will have it too!
Got mine pre ordered from ee too. Will the bootloader definately be unlockable? If so, how quick are ee with pushing android updates? What's their track record been on the nexus 6p?
Can't comment on EE update speeds but I bought mine from Carphone Warehouse, just to be on the safe side. Expected delivery on 20th (release date) too.
Looks like those on EE will get OTA along with everyone else! (Evend though bootloader maybe locked). They're not installing any customisation's ..

I ordered my N6 through EE. Fully stock, no bootloader restrictions and no bloatware, they didn't even pre-load the EE app. Hopefully it will be the same for Pixel.

C782 update

Has anybody managed to get any sense out of Huawei chat or information anywhere else about any updates for this model?
I'm still stuck on 120 and April security patch.
It's an absolute joke when you see how many updates have been released for the other version.
Nope, best sell the thing and get somethjng else.
That's what I'm planning to do.
I like the phone. But lack of updates for c782 variety is just not acceptable to me. I'll be getting rid of the phone and depending whether I can find something else or not I'll get myself c432 from Europe or completely other phone.
Get a different brand entirely.
It looks like the updates are being rolled out in waves. One user on here has a C782 and got update 152 a few weeks ago when I was stuck on 120 then last week I got 152. The problem might be down to carriers.

Mine is a SIM free phone purchased outright and not on contract so should not be down to carrier.

Updates are provided by Huawei but in the UK they have to be approved by the four major networks - even if you bought it SIM free! This is due to Huawei devices having a single update for the UK that contains code to pre-install apps and carrier customisations on first boot. In the past they would offer an unbranded firmware and each network would have it's own firmware. Now Huawei just produce a single model for the UK with a UK-wide firmware that covers all networks. Huawei cannot just push the firmware out without approval from all the networks, and it only takes one network to halt the process.
Pretty much confirmed by this chap on the Huawei forum: https://uk.community.huawei.com/software-17/lack-of-huawei-p20-uk-variant-updates-251#post814
Nope
I asked three about this and said they have nothing to do with it. I have zero trust in any thing Huawei say.
How about those who use the device outside of UK without UK sim? Are we sol?

Is this EML-L09 C782 you are talking about? Which network are you on?
Yes, Vodafone UK
Was at EE store today asking seems even the staff are clueless about this update ..sure hope it gets sorted and rolled out .. it be nice if Huawei let us uk folks get boatloader codes so can flash upto date firmwares and not left behind
Updated
Whether it did any good or not but I resorted to social media and tweeted non stop on Huawei twitter etc. They got back to me twice, 1st was a direct message after contacting directly saying that there is not an update for the P20 in C782 and didn't know when there would be than a few days later via Twitter, they said that there is an update and could I provide my carrier and phone number, they would then push it to my phone within 10 days. I explained I was sim free but use an O2 sim, gave them my number and waited. on the 11th day I had nothing so went back to Twitter to start again - an hour or so later the 152 and Sept patch was pushed to my phone! this was about 2 weeks ago and until then I was on April patch.
Due to this, I will be returning to OnePlus very soon as I do NOT trust Huawei, they constantly lie and drag their heals in replying and updating.
Hope this helps. Get onto Twitter and Facebook and hit their pages, hit them where it can hurt, the more people who do this the more chance they will listen and act. Complaining direct will get no response or nowhere!
Goog luck
I have been on twitter but nothing.
I had the message via the support email to say it's coming in 10 days. They've had my number and IMEI so many times but nothing .
Well, for my EML-L09 C782... 8.1.0.152 finally arrived today... strangely it wasn't showing up until I have connected phone to PC and ran update via HiSuite... may be just coincidence though...
Just swapped an L09 locked to Vodafone to an unlocked L29 from Three. Avoided the carrier apps package etc, so thought this one would be get faster updates.
Way wrong, stuck back on v131 because it's on this stupid C782 region, unlike the Vodafone one that was on the C492 or whatever, and v150.
Am I right thinking this phone will be stuck on the very slow updates forever and nothing can be done since bootloader unlocking was taken away?
I messaged Huawei UK over Twitter yesterday, supplied them my IMEI, build number etc and surprisingly I received the 152 update later that day after they passed my details to the development team.

Galaxy Note 10+ OTA Update

Hello,
I am hoping someone here has a good understanding on how updates work with Samsung Galaxy models.
On my Verizon Note 9, earlier this year, I was able to rush an update before Verizon released it. I did it by downloading the official one from ATT (or sprint, can't remember) and it worked. It updated my phone and I even remained on track for future updates. I did this because based on the research I did, carrier phones are all the same hardware, and the carrier software gets installed based on the SIM that gets inserted into the phone. So the updates are interchangeable pretty much.
I am looking at upgrading to the note 10+, Verizon is offering me $400 for my note 9. Samsung is offering me $600 but only if i buy the unlocked model. So my questions is in regards to the unlocked model. Would I be able to do the same with an unlocked phone? Can i install a carrier update on an unlocked phone. I am aware that unlocked phones do not receive updates as quickly as carrier phones (it was the opposite a few years ago).
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I ordered the unlocked model as well. As soon as you pop your SIM into the phone it will carrier lock (bootloader) to that carrier and you'll start getting updates pushed by that carrier.
Ill be waiting off any updates personally so that i can get root

you positive this is correct as the phone will lock when inserting sim into it? Also, aren't you losing wifi calling/RCS/Video Calling?

A little bit of clarification, the bootloader will always remain locked on any device with Snapdragon, this includes The carrier and Unlocked devices sold in the US and Canada

Mmm, i might be wrong. RCS is going to be carrier dependent only for a little while longer since Google is taking that over. Video calling will also depend on which app you're using

Thats correct. I knew it was either the old way that i mentioned or this way. I just hope that getting the bootloader unlocked and achieving root is easy. Last time i attempted this on a Samsung was back with my Note3 and it was a huge PITA

All the US versions will be BL locked like always.

Never going to happen, there will be no root or anything for the US models.
Your way behind the times....compared to the days of the Note 3 things are way worse and complicated now in regards to locked down BLs.
If you want an unlockable BL go with a latin anerican or HK snapdragon or an exynos device.
Other than that you are SOL
once the tools for this model get released, in theory you should be able to. However it might not happen right away.
Also, being unlocked still allows all features like visual voicemail, HD voice, hotspot and wi-fi calling. However you will be significantly delayed on security and fw updates, as unlocked requires all carriers to test and release these updates first, then the unlocked devices get the updates. This is why after a year of owning my first unlocked phones (note9 and s10+ 1tb unlocked) I decided to go with a carrier phone again.

I just left T-Mobile with my unlocked from Samsung Note 9. When I powered off the phone and turned it back on with the Verizon SIM it gave me all of the Verizon stuff and I recently got the Verizon security patch, so yes it will work. Verizon is giving 450 dollars not 400 dollars for all of the phones they list. Even the S7. Just so other people don't think they will only get 400.

You will not ever get root on a Snapdragon Samsung Device. Won't happen. There are no unlocked bootloaders. An Unlocked Snapdraggon means it is not locked to a Carrier - it does not mean the Bootloader is unlocked. Sorry if this bursts your bubble - but if you want to get Root - you will need to buy an International Exynos Variant - N975F - it s the only way you will get root. It has been this way for MANY Years for new Samsnung Snapdragon Devices.

I myself ordered unlocked version as I would get $600 trade in value for my S10e. Unlocked will work perfectly fine and usually get updates(monthly updates) about a week later than T-Mobile for example does. You could download firmware based on your carrier and flash it on the unlocked model and it will convert it to that carrier and updates will come from that carrier.

Should I keep my Sprint OnePlus 7 Pro 5G?

Hey there Everyone!
For Christmas, I was gifted a OnePlus 7 Pro 5g(sprint variant). As I'm sure everyone knows, the bootloader is locked. and I was really hoping for a phone with Android 10. I've seen posts where some progress has been made on getting this device unlocked but nothing concrete yet.
My question is, Should I keep my OnePlus 7 pro and wait for an unlocked bootloader, or should I just return it?
Any input is welcomed!
Thanks

There is no guarantee you will be able to unlock the BL.
Also the phone is unique to Sprint (maybe EE in Europe has same phone) and that means the software/ROM is unique.
You will not be able to flash a generic international firmware version since the 5G is using the X50 modem.
If your desire is for a phone with an unlock able/unlocked BL on Sprint; good luck with that.
Not to be sarcastic, but Sprint is even more locked down that Verizon.

I'm actually on a VZW prepaid plan currently using a Chinese Mi Mix 3. My main hope would be to get it running Android 10. I could really care less about the 5g speeds as I don't really get access to it with my plan. My biggest issue with my Mi Mix 3 is that Development seems to be completely dead and I don't want to get stuck in the same scenario. But if there is hope for the OP7P5G, I dont mind hanging onto it until I can use it to its full potential.
Could be a fun ride for you... ?
i have gotten many phones on sprint unlocked such as pixels and they work. im getting a oneplus for free and have to use it for 50 days before they unlock it. don't know more than that but id trade for a pixel 3xl or something since i can confirm they can be unlocked and rooted. im using my pixel 3xl rooted on Verizon right now so i can confirm the sprint variant of that phone works.

OnePlus8 VZW Bootloader is Not Unlockable

Has anyone seen any difference in the bootloader, unlocking, rootability on the Verizon Version of the OnePlus 8. Anything in coding that speaks to a lock out from Big Red?
I heard about sign up and IMEI issues with the direct OnePlus buys although it seems the IMEI issue came across from the Verizon branded ones as well.
Thanks in advance for feedback!!!
Edit.... At this time OEM Unlock is Non-existent in the DEV Settings and Fastboot CMD does not Allow unlocking of the bootloader. Thanks All!!!

I hope that this thread gets some attention or there will be low sales for the Verizon version for root and custom ROM users.
Well if the 8 pro is anything like the 7 pro the bootloader unlock was really easy. There is a statement on DroidLife, com they are talking about unlocked OnePlus 8 phones and Verizon but it was yesterday and it might be fixed by now or real soon.
I have the T-Mobile oneplus 8 I could not network unlock my device not because I am on eip but because my phone is not showing up in their database... they questioned if I even got it through them, I gave them my order number and my IMEI and it was not coming up in their system

Same from the reports on VZW. Just wondering how that worked out with the device hardware modifications (assuming there actually are any. Think I may give it a whirl and return if its locked up.
I bought one from straight from oneplus themselves and even though I hadn't even inserted a SIM card yet, I couldn't unlock the bootloader (inserting one didn't change anything). I don't think this is specific to verizon, or perhaps somethings up. Anyone know what's going on? It's an IN21AA
Whatever... I'll bite the bullet. Just ordered one 5 minutes ago and I'll get it on the 6th. Let's see where we end up.
I won't be ordering one if the bootloader can not be unlocked any status updates would be great. The money off with a trade in for the Verizon one is hard to pass up then again the Oneplus Z is coming very soon and with a snapdragon 765G same chip the pixel 5 is rumored to have? move over pixel 4a screwed again.

I feel like this may be a bug or something else is up with certain models, Oneplus isn't exactly known for keeping everything locked after all.

For the unlocked models from oneplus I agree it's probably a bug. But the VZW branded 8 5G I don't think it is. Pixels even have a different bootloader than the unlocked ones and can't be unlocked if bought from Verizon. Maybe oneplus fought this but who knows Verizon has a lot of pull.

I know it's unlockable. But even people buying direct are having issues with the unlocked phones. If there is a way to unlock the bootloader like the VZW pixel keep the sim out turn it on use WiFi and maybe OEM unlocking isn't greyed out. But VZW will patch that real quick like they did with the pixels. I have a OnePlus 7 pro I have no problem waiting for the 8T or even the Z it's not much of an upgrade anyway the trade in deal was kinda hard to pass up when OnePlus trade in program doesn't give enough money at all. The VZW one was taking even pixel 2s which I have lying around so it was worth it.

You need a sim and network to enable OEM unlocking ??* it's your mistake, nobody elses

Then I'd try a factory reset. There's no way the unlocked version won't let you unlock the bootloader. No chance. Mine was greyed out till I put a sim in and rebooted on my 8 Pro. and you can always return or exchange or get a refund ??
I read on DroidLife that the unlocked 8 and 8 pro are now certified on Verizon maybe people should work with the reps. to get the problem worked out. If the 8 pro is anything like the 7 pro it's going to be easy to unlock just use ADB.
So that's a definite? OnePlus 8 from red can not be bootloader unlocked? Even when paid off. Jus got mine 2day ago an that would blow

I'm not sure what phone you are using now. But I've had the 6, I've got the 7 pro now and both were easy to unlock using ADB and there were both on big red. But right now red had only the 8 pro 5G phone. I talked to a rep online she said was not sure when they were getting the 8 and 8 pro. I read that red was working on certifying unlocked 8 pro from oneplus but they also said it could be June. Let's hope it's sooner. Now I did have trouble with the 7 pro to get it to work on Verizon so I went to Verizon and they got it up and running. It was just a a couple of switches on there side.
